Starts off as a sour, herbal raspberry, made more astringent and bitter by the tea notes. As it dries down, the fruit and tea fade more and more and I'm left with birch tar, which is a bit ashy and reminiscent of sharp woodsmoke on my skin. The whole thing is very bitter and harsh.

Very dry, warm woods (and after reading previous reviews, I keep thinking pencil shavings now too, lol) and a powdery sandalwood incense type of feel. Drydown has the warm, powdery, slightly spicy, musky-clean-amber scent of the ambergris. The whole thing is rather light, dry and powdery on my skin.

Fiber-Optic Illuminated Aluminum Christmas Tree with Gen-U-Ine Pine© Scent
Little Bird replied to Lycanthrope's topic in Yules
Misty, sweet pine with a minty/menthol undertone. Immediately reminded me of Vicks Vaporub. It does have a metallic, cool, clean undertone to it as well. Fake pine trees and silver tinsel. It is exactly as advertised. I like collecting the funny single notes, so I'm glad to have this, but will I ever wear it again? Eh... -
This smells just like the original Lick It, which I enjoyed. It's very sweet, slightly vanilla creamy, peppermint candy. I don't get anything that makes me think of cake or frosting from my bottle, though. It's a sweet peppermint candy cane scent.

Yes to the patchouli, leather and honey. I love this when first applied. It's smooth black leather and a thick and rich patchouli that is spicy, chocolatey, and reminiscent of tobacco and black dirt, all at once. Dark and earthy, but charmingly sweet. The honey adds to the sticky sweetness without being aggressive. Reminds me of a darker, honeyed, no vanilla version of Banshee Beat. The mid-stage isn't great on me. From the 10 minute to around the one hour mark, something mentholic and minty comes through on my skin, and Pognophobia smells like harsh mouthwash. Around the one hour mark, though, that mintiness goes away and I'm left with gorgeous patchouli and leather again, just barely sweetened by honey. It's not as sweet or complex as the glorious opening stage, but it's good. I'll keep my bottle of this and see how it ages and continues to wear.

The first few times that I wore this, I thought that it was way too powdery for me. Then it seemed to settle into itself (or I got used to it) and I really started to appreciate the perfumey sweetness of it. Pediophobia reminds me of The British Blondes atmosphere spray, which I always say is like the scent of walking into a Sephora and smelling all of those sweet cosmetics powders and hints of All The Perfumes. It's a powdery, sweet vanilla floof of a scent. It also has an edge to it that smells girly and pink. Perfumey and powdery are usually terms that I use when I don't like a fragrance, but I like this enough that I ordered two bottles...

Wearing this is like rolling around in sugar cookies and buttery, gooey, marshmallow-y rice krispies treats. I don't get much of a chocolate smell from it, which I'm okay with. It does have a cool vanilla cream to it that is similar to Boo, especially in the drydown, but I like this more than Boo, because it has none of the clean linen and more of a cookies and marshmallow scent. Yummy.

A Thousand Thoughts, and Hopes, and Joys
Little Bird replied to HerbGirl's topic in Black Phoenix Trading Post
This smells like Bath & Body Works' Sea Island Cotton fragrance + bpal's High-Strung Daisies. The vanilla freesia is a cool, breezy, vanilla powder puff sort of floral. Clean, but not outright soapy, with an almost salty aquatic feel to it. Vanilla is soft and powdery rather than sweet. A Thousand Thoughts does smell sugared and vanilla-y, but it's nowhere near as sweet as I was expecting it to be. It definitely leans towards a clean floral with dry, subtle sweetness. I don't think my bottle of this will be a keeper, just because it reminds me so much of Sea Island Cotton and bpal's High-Strung Daisies. I can even smell the pink peppery note and hint of bubblegum that I get from Daisies in the drydown. -
On me, this is really sour green grass and sharp soapiness. I was hoping for tonka and dandelions, but I can't pick out any sweetness from this blend and the greenery is grassy and unpleasant. It was a scrubber for me.

I put off trying this, because it had a PineSol vibe in the bottle, but I finally got around to wearing Sparkle & Glitter today and really enjoy it. When I first put this on, it leaned a little soapy and I was ready to list my bottle on my sale page. Within five minutes, though, this settles into a gorgeous, masculine white chocolate scent. I love the lab's white chocolate - it's a soft, creamy, not overly sweet vanilla-ish scent that's almost a little powdery on me, but not dry or baby powdery. It's elegant and lovely. The snow in this does go a little soapy on me, which usually doesn't happen with bpal's snow note, but it's clean and crisp. Peppermint, melting snow, and evergreen branches showing through a veil of creamy white chocolate and a whiff of men's soapy shaving cream. I like this. It's kind of a clean and manly truffle scent.

I was excited for blue plum and green musk, but the lavender and ozone are dominating this scent on my skin. It's clean lavender and a hint of lemony bergamot at first, and dries down to a chilly, soapy lavender that leans masculine and herbal on me.
-
I like the lab's snow note, but I'm kind of tired of it in blends, because the snow note usually overpowers everything else. This is strong snow note - wet, slushy, not soapy, chilled, slightly minty, and lovely, really makes me think of snow melting off of pine trees and cold air - with a drydown that's mostly snow with an undertone of white sandalwood. The sandalwood turns dry, baby powdery, and slightly dusty smelling on me. I don't get clove, orange or tonka at all.

This smells like the King Mandarin single note met up with Love's Philosophy and rolled around in baby powdery amber. Dry and powdery on me rather than being creamy, so it doesn't have a gourmand/creamsicle impression on my skin. I don't really love the chalky/dry vanilla in Love's Philosophy, and the amber makes it more powdery and dry. It's warm, glowing, powdery orange. I was hoping for more honey and more of a creamy, sweet vanilla.

No One Heard Her Except the Sparrows Atmosphere Spray
Little Bird replied to Lycanthrope's topic in Atmosphere
This reminds me of Britney Spears' "The Naughty Remix" perfume (I know it's a horrible name, but it's actually one of my favorite fragrances). It has the same creamy, cool, sweet, realistic white chocolate and magical, powdery orris. Like eating chocolate in a cool summer garden full of white moonflowers. The orris and sandalwood add a creamy, powdery, warmer base, but this is a big blast of realistic, creamy, gorgeous white chocolate. I like this a bit more as a personal scent than a room scent, but luckily I have The Naughty Remix for that, lol. It still makes for a sweet, yet glamorous smelling room fragrance. I love the lab's white chocolates (White Chocolate & Strawberry still being my #1 after all these years) and this is another love. -
I don't know if something is wrong with my nose or my decant, but this smells a lot like a spring floral scented laundry detergent to me. Kind of soapy, sharp and oddly floral. In the drydown, I do get the comparison to Single Note: Polyester Spiderweb, like hints of watery, green cucumber, sharp chemical hairspray and powdery white musk rolling around in the laundry detergent. I expected this to smell more plasticy and like newly opened plastic toys, but I don't really smell the plastic. It's more of a perfumey and soapy floral scent on me than anything.

I'm attracted to anything that mentions cherry blossom (or plum blossom or peach blossom - they're the sweet, delicate, airy florals that tend to work on me), and the other notes in this sounded good to me. And I like this blend, though I don't quite love it. The hinoki cypress makes me think of sweet, creamy, cool cherry blossoms falling to the ground and laying on a bed of freshly cut wood chips and evergreen needles. Sort of a foresty cherry blossom. I don't love the bright, citrusy sharpness from the ti leaf or the slightly soapy, cool, mintiness from the snow. The ylang ylang adds more of a warm, perfumey quality over the hours as well. I wish I could pick the cherry blossom and hinoki cypress out of the blend and just wear those, lol, because those notes are lovely and I find the other notes to be distracting. Still, the sweet, creamy, airy, cool cherry blossom is always lovely.

This scent makes me sick to my stomach, and this is coming from someone who didn't mind Gore-Shock and Day-Old Ham. It has an oily, salty, weird overtone that reminds me of canned chicken noodle soup, and a dusty, seasoned quality that really does smell like sour cream & chive flavored instant mashed potatoes (still in the box and dry). I love the smell of garlic, so I thought that maybe this would be fun, but it's so salty and over-the-top. It smells canned, freeze dried, processed and all wrong. Fun to try, but no.

Soft, warm, baby powdery amber and sandalwood with the slightly woody, sweet cocoa absolute. It's kind of a Hershey syrup and powdery woods scent. I didn't try this year's Gelt, but this blend reminds me of previous year's Gelt. Too powdery for me. This lasts for about 4 hours, but has almost no throw on me. Cocoa absolute seems to cling close to my skin.

I don't get the dirt or greenery from this the aquatic and snow amp up too much on my skin. It's minty snow and slightly soapy aquatic. Clean and chilly. There are snow blends that I like more than this one, though, because I don't like the edge of soapiness in this one.
-
I love the lab's cherry blossom and wisteria notes, but the iced lily turns very soapy on my skin. It's still a lovely, sweet, breezy, creamy cherry blossom and pale, blue, lilac-ish wisteria, all gentle and delicately sweet florals, but with an undercurrent of generic white bar soap. I prefer the cherry blossom and wisteria to be paired with more of a honeyed note that plays up their sweetness. This amps up the clean aspects of those notes, and I'm not huge into soapy fragrances.

The blood orange starts out strong, glowing red and citrusy, but the drydown is all about the apricot on my skin. It's a sweet, fuzzy, dried apricot sort of scent, with a dry, perfumey quality from the chypre and a touch of warm powder from the amber. I don't get the lavender, and I wish the orange stuck around longer, because the dry apricot is a little too one dimensional for me. Still, it's a nice, pleasant, cheerful apricot.

Soft brown leather and crimson musk made me think this was going to work on me, but the glowing embers and coal dust translate into a sharp, smoky, acrid sort of fragrance. I don't get anything like red musk or leather, which are usually quite strong, but a tart, slightly sour orange joins the ash and woodsmoke in the drydown. After an hour, the smoke is settling down and it smells a lot like fireplace ashes and baby powdery amber on my skin. Not working on me at all.

I expected this to be stronger and heavier on the cinnamon, but it's woody and surprisingly soft and light. The fig is velvety, sweet and has a dry, wooden quality to it, that's further enhanced by the red sandalwood. The myrrh and sandalwood have a warm, glowing feel, and the cinnamon is warm, sweet, and lightly dusted over everything. Fades really quickly on me, though, and doesn't have much throw. Fades into a quiet, warm, woody fragrance that's gone entirely by the three hour mark.

Mostly sour pine on my skin, sharp and green, with hints of dry, herbal sage. A warm, golden spiciness from the saffron in the drydown, but it still mostly reads as PineSol.
-
This is mainly pomegranate and blackberry on me, and it's tart, sharp and a bit cough syrupy. The herbal, minty-cool edge from the mugwort and pennyroyal makes it smell more medicinal. After about an hour, the patchouli is creeping in, but it's very dry and the whole thing turns oddly plasticy. A fail on my skin.
