I don't think that I'd ever smell this and think 'marshmallow.' I wish that the notes had listed cinnamon, because I probably could have passed on this scent. I get tons of sweet, heavy, strong, headache inducing cinnamon from this. It smells like cheap cinnamon potpourri with a hint of play-doh. Really disappointed with this one.

The mentions of muffins and cake suckered me in with this scent, but it's mainly a heavy, cloying floral to my nose. I think that I'm getting something like lotus (creamy, heavy, pink bubblegum smelling floral) and dry, burnt/smoky smelling leaves (which turns a bit like burnt coffee on my skin), and the combination doesn't work for me at all. The drydown is more perfumey, sharp floral. Perfumey, sharp, heavy florals and burnt coffee on me.

I feel like I've smelled this before, in a more mainstream scent that I can't quite place (something I've smelled in Sephora, though, and it's driving me crazy that I can't remember). Maybe something like Pink Sugar Sensual, but not quite. Mainly this is like a creamy, sugary vanilla musk that dries down rather perfumey, with hints of sweet, bright fruitiness (guava, not the currant) and a touch of girly powder from the amber. I get a light warmth and subtle spiciness from the pumpkin, but it's not a very strong note at all. Pumpkin Princess is a little more perfumey/musky smelling than I normally like, especially as it dries down, but the sweetness and vanilla-y qualities are nice. This isn't something that I'm going to hoard or wear a lot, but I'm happy to have a partial bottle.

I was excited for the "loads of candy and smashed pumpkins" in the description, but I don't really get any sweetness or pumpkin from this blend. I get snowy, slightly sharp pine and a whiff of sharp woodsmoke from this. The drydown is oddly perfumey and musky smelling on me. I'm not a fan of this one...

This didn't sound like something I'd really enjoy to begin with, and so it's not a big surprise that it's not really a 'me' scent. I have trouble picking out any one note; it's sort of a fruity-floral mishmash that's slightly perfumey and sharp to my nose. It's a bit on the clean smelling side of things, but mostly makes me feel like someone sprayed on a perfume that I don't quite care for. For a bptp room spray, The Orchards of Hell wasn't as strong as a lot of my other sprays and seemed to fade a bit faster than usual. I think that this smells more spring than fall-like, but it isn't something I'd reach for again. Perfumey, clean floral and subtle fruitiness.
-
I got a decant sample spray of this one and it's not one of my favorite bptp room sprays. I won't be buying a full size of this one. I don't think that Harvest Festival smells very unique against all of the other spicy fall/harvest air fresheners & candles on sale right now. It's mainly cinnamon spiciness to my nose, with a bit of a powdery & dry edge from the hay. It's a bit sharp to me and reminds me of the cinnamon potpourri that's widely available around this time of year. I like the more unique sprays, and this is a scent that I feel like I could get elsewhere for a lot cheaper.

Ugh. This is so disappointing. I didn't see how I could go wrong with vanilla cake and frosting, but this doesn't smell like vanilla or cake to me at all. It smells like tart cherry kool-aid powder and maybe something like corn bread. It's more tart and fruity than it is sweet on me... not really very sweet at all. I don't even understand how this smells so far from the description, but I'm actually a bit upset about it...

King Haggard smells surprisingly outdoorsy and fresh & clean to me. His scent isn't dry, bitter, or ashen on my skin. I get tons of cedar (which is good, because I love cedar) and it's like a mix of spicy, dry cedar chips and green cedar, with something that smells a lot like cold rain water and a hint of mushroom on me. It smells like wandering around in the woods after a long rain, and is actually sort of watery like cucumber as it dries down. I'm puzzled, because it really isn't bitter or dry on me at all. The woods are more creamy and pleasant smelling and there's that cold, watery edge... it smells nice in any case.
-
This is such a pretty fragrance. I get tons of pink watermelon (which starts off like watermelon jolly ranchers and is a bit more subdued as it dries down, but still definitely sweet and heavy on the watermelon) with hints of delicate, perfumey musk and oakmoss. The oakmoss keeps making me think of dried leaves. It smells simple and a bit on the innocent and girly side of things, but I really like this. My husband loves this on me as well.

On me, Hagsgate is like Planting Moon minus the dirt. The description lists 'black soil,' but I don't pick up on any earthiness at all. I'm glad that it's not heavy on the dirt note, though, because that makes this blend a lot more wearable and clean smelling to me. When I put this on, I smell like I've rolled through a row of tomato plants and sliced cucumbers <3. It's a good mix of that fuzzy, slightly spicy, green smell that tomato leaves have, plus the crisp, watery, cool, clean smell of freshly sliced cucumber. The tomato and cucumber remind me of happy moments from my childhood, so I find this to be a really pleasant scent, and it's just such a nice, clean, natural sort of smell.

This smells like it would be a delicious sauce. It goes on like spicy tomato, a whiff of mesquite bbq wood planks, and a hint of green that makes me think of green pepper and spicy tomato leaves. The drydown is a bit more like sweet, dark resins and lightly charred wood, but it definitely has a savory/foodie edge on my skin. My hubby said this smells like "cooking spices and bbq." I don't get the wet stone impression at all, though perhaps there's something clay-like about the whole thing if I try to pick it apart. I like it well enough, but it's not something that I'd actually wear as a personal scent.

I was afraid that this would be similar to The Last Unicorn, which is absolutely awful on me, but this is more like Waltz of the Snowflakes (or Snow White) with tons of pink lilac and a hint of the sweet soap bubbles from Gossamer. This smells intensely sweet and *PINK* to me, like candied pink flowers whipped into a vanilla & snow milkshake, topped off with a froth of soap bubbles and a sprig of mint. Super-sweet, but also clean and frosty. The drydown smells deliciously sweet and vanilla-y on my skin. Lady Amalthea is one of my favorites in The Last Unicorn lineup. I'd recommend it if you like vanilla type scents or lilac.

Pumpkin Princess is so cute <3

The only bpal that smelled really popcorn-y to me was Shill, but my bottles of that haven't aged well at all it smells like weird, fruity chemical smell with a hint of butter on me now.
-
My strong/confident/aggressive scents usually have dark cocoa, black patchouli, cinnamon, or dark rose in them. Dark and heavy scents <3. Some of my favorite bpals for that purpose are El Dorado, Sin, Love Me, Sacred Whore of Babylon, Depraved, Intrigue, The Red Rider, Mr. Fezziwig's Ball... Banshee Beat is close, but a bit too sweet.
-
El Nuevo Puritano is a lot lighter and not as dark as I was expecting. The oak goes slightly powdery on me, with the spicy, manly bay and a hint of sweet lime playing out over the dry woods. I like it initially, and like it less after about fifteen minutes. As it dries down, the sweet citrus disappears and the blend is a bit smokier, but mostly it's a dry, powdery wood smell on my skin, with more of a dusty clove smell over time. I don't get any of the leather, which is usually pretty strong on my skin. It's okay, but not something I need a full bottle of.

Chokecherry Honey smells mainly of cherry kool-aid powder - dry, powdery, tart. I usually don't like honey, but the honey here softens the tart cherry and makes the scent smell sort of pink and fluffy. It's a sweet and girly scent that's pleasant and cheery, but I'm not sure I'd ever actually wear this. I think it's a bit too sweet and simple for me. Still, it's a fun scent.

I don't have great luck with the lunacy blends, but I always like the Harvest Moons (*love* 05 and 06) and love how different each year's version has been. Harvest Moon 2011 goes on smelling of fruits and spiced wine, mainly, and quickly dries down to smelling like roasted, sugared nuttiness with hints of autumn leaves, spices, and sweet berry. There's a nice, fresh, cool air feel as well. It smells nice and harvest-y with a good mix of autumn leaf, spices, sweetness, and fruit. I don't think it'll replace 05 and 06 as a favorite, but I'm glad I got a partial bottle of this.
-
I usually love patchouli, but this seems to have the same thin, sour smelling patchouli that's in #occupywallstreet. I don't care for it, as it smells soured on me, not rich and earthy. I didn't get any chocolate from the occupy scent, but this has a light whiff of chocolate as it dries down, and maybe a hint of warmth from the spices. I was hoping that this would get better and more complex with age, but my bottle is heavier on the patchouli and turning more sour. There are definitely patchouli scents that I like a lot more, and my go-to patchoulis lately are from Reminiscence Paris and Smell Bent. La Mano winds up smelling like a very cheap patchouli on me...

In the bottle, this is like creamy, slightly bubblegummy lotus and Juicy Fruit gum smell. I can pick out a bit of the pink pepper, which always smells odd to me (like Juicy Fruit gum, for some reason) and perfumey tuberose. On my skin, it's the same, but with a bit of baby powder from the amber. I thought that it would be okay for the first few minutes, and then it goes intensely sharp and perfumey-floral on me in the drydown. The tuberose amps up like mad and the whole thing starts to smell like chemical hair spray on me. Blech. Vanilla, patchouli, and clove are nowhere to be found

In the bottle, this smells like fizzy toilet cleanser :/ The mix of fizzy champagne and sharp, chemical-y citrus just smells awful to me. On my skin, it's much the same, but with honey that smells really off in this blend. It adds a sickly sweetness underneath the cleanser smell that makes me think of, well, pee... The Grendel blends all smell off to me
-
First on, the mix of lilac and resins here makes for a syrupy-sweet, dark, resinous smell that reminds me of opoponax. The black musk is both slightly smoky and slightly powdery on me, and forms the background to the super-sweet floral and incense. As it dries down, something in this turns slightly sour on me, and it's just too much. Too much powder, too much sweetness, too much sour smokiness... it's a very cloying scent on me, and one that I scrubbed off after about a half hour.
-
In the bottle this smells mostly of jasmine. It's like a vanilla-d, slightly smoky jasmine. Reminds me of Follow Me Boy a bit. On my skin, the jasmine amps up and turns slightly sour (which doesn't happen with Follow Me Boy) and the whole thing gets too perfumey and headache-inducing. The amber adds a touch of baby powder and there's a bit of resinous sweetness from the opoponax, but mostly a perfumey, slightly sour jasmine. I had high hopes for this, but the jasmine gives me a headache. I don't smell any leather, orange blossom, woods, or plum in this.

I love masculine scents, vanilla, and ambergris, so I had high hopes for this. And it doesn't live up to those hopes. Prince Lir is a pale, perfumey sort of scent on me. I can't smell much of anything in the bottle, and it's incredibly light on my skin as well. It's like a hint of perfumey, sharp musk and sour, green pine & sour citrus that's left over from a perfume applied several hours ago. Not much throw at all, and only lasts about an hour on my skin. I don't smell any vanilla or sweetness I'm majorly disappointed with this blend...

The Lowdown on Incense & Resin - The Best Recommendations
Little Bird replied to Ms. MSGirl's topic in Recommendations
I'd definitely recommend checking out these: *The Antikythera Mechanism (Steamworks) - "Teakwood, oak, black vanilla, and tobacco." *Bloodlust (Diabolus) - "Dragon's blood essence, heavy red musk, Indonesian patchouli and swarthy vetiver with a drop of cinnamon." *Cathedral (Sin & Salvation) - "Venerable and solemn: the scent of incense smoke wafting through an ancient church. A true ecclesiatical blend of pure resins." Lovely resins and woods mix. *Depraved (Ars Amatoria) - "Earthy black patchouli swelling with apricot." My favorite for showcasing the black patchouli note, which is very dark and earthy. *Ekhidna (Diabolus) - "All the corruptions of the earth: mandrake, dark myrrh, seaweed, swampy moss, black pepper, pimento, opoponax, tobacco absolute, and tarry clove." *Fenris Wolf (Diabolus) - "Rosewood, amber, red musk and a dribble of red sandalwood." *Greed (Sin & Salvation) - "Base and earthy, yet glittering with golden notes: patchouli, heliotrope, copal and oakmoss." *El Dorado (Wanderlust) - "Copal resin incense blowing through halls of dazzling gold." I find this to be an absolutely amazing, dark mix of incense, earth, and spiciness. *Snake Oil (Ars Amatoria) - "A blend of exotic Indonesian oils sugared with vanilla." *Umbra (Bewitching Brews) - "East African black patchouli, cedarwood, vetiver and a dribble of cinnamon." *Voodoo (Bewitching Brews) - "A deep, powerful, resonant blend of myrrh, patchouli, vetiver, lime, vanilla, pine, almond and clove." And if you're interested in picking up some non-impable bottles or tracking down decants from the forum: *Hygeia (Limited Edition) - "Red musk and red amber, sweet incense, Mysore sandalwood, tobacco absolute, golden musk, orris root, frankincense, and helichrysum." *The Ifrit (Neil Gaiman - American Gods) - "Desert sand, red musk, blackened ginger, dragon's blood resin, black pepper, cinnamon, and tobacco." *Samhainophobia (Limited Edition) - "Menacing Haitian vetiver, patchouli, and clove with a shock of bourbon geranium, grim oakmoss, and dread-inspiring balsams pierce the innocuous scent of autumn leaves." *The Smiling Spider (The Salon) - "Bitter clove, black musk, mahogany wood, and patchouli." *Tombeur (VILF) - "Deadly and seductive: vanilla-infused sandalwood, blood musk, antique patchouli, vetiver, lavender, bitter almond, amber, and a trickle of Snake Oil." I didn't like this when I first got it, but let it sit for a month or two and it settles into a complex, dark, sexy scent with just the right amount of sweetness.
