Blue Moon 2009: Brian's Interpretation
heavywhitewove replied to greenranger's topic in A Little Lunacy
Wow - what an unexpected surprise! I love Brian's others creations (Blood Amber and Schwartzer Mond) so even though I wasn't jazzed about the description I ordered it on faith. In the bottle: Smells like herbs (sharp rosemary, eucalyptus) and amber, no floral that I can detect. Maybe even a little mint??? Wet: Strong strong throw. The herbal smell smoothes out and a sweet musk takes over. Sexy. Dry: Musk almost like a red musk but with a smooth touch of clean herb to it. Somewhat masculine, def. not a sweet, smarmy girly scent. Very pleased I ordered this - it is going into immediate scent rotation. I have a decent BPAL collection and this is like nothing else I own. My other favs are Bow & Crown of Conquest, Crowley and anything with Red Musk. If you have similar tastes - scoop this up now!!! -
In the bottle: delicate, a "7-up" citrus vibe. Clear oil. On skin: strong throw, citrus is gone and a delicate warm floral, vanilla emerges. I didn't get the baby powder from hell others describe. HOWEVER - this did burn on my skin and I had to wash it off. I have several BPAL oils and none have done this to me nor do I have sensitive skin. Despite washing with soap and water, the girl is still there. The label is excellent!

Smooth pumpkin latte. No bitterness or weird coffee ground smell. Amazingly strong throw. I predict this will be very popular on ebay once the Halloweenies vanish. Get your back up bottle now.

Hmmm. I've smelled this before. Sunbird: THE ANTIKYTHERA MECHANISM + a hint of warm, maybe St. John's Eve (yes I have both) Let's try this out. On Rt wrist Sunbird, on Lt wrist the combo Yup - it is official. Sunbird is the lovechild of AM + St. John's Eve. If I didn't own Sunbird and wanted to experience it - I would purchase AM and call it a day. Sunbird also reminds me of the Bow and the Crown of Conquest. This is a masculine, warm and dry scent. Edited note: AM + BCC also mimics Sunbird perfectly

Wow! Got this shipment in fast. In the bottle: creamy coffee Wet: Cigar smoke and a faint weird chemical Dry: Coffee returns and mixes with the cigar, faint weird chemical goes away (wheww). This is not the bitter grounds coffee smell of Misk U (which I did not care for) but far richer. If you liked 2008 Pumpkin IV or any other tobacco scent - this one is for you. Sweet and dainty? Not these dawgs. :smite: FYI: this does not have a huge a throw, so you will need to reapply often if that is your thing.

Oh dear - I like spicy scents but this is cinnamon Dentyne. In bottle and on skin - you are gummy, sugar-cinnamon fresh. No thank you. The S.O. said "hey - where did you get the gum?" This is Rite-Aid exotic.

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?
heavywhitewove replied to Nadirah's topic in Recommendations
I have a decant of the unity set. Both white and red are nice are their own however they remind me of the components of Spellbound and together they smell exactly like (or pretty darn close to) Spellbound. I've put the unity set on 1 wrist and Spellbound on the other - couldn't tell the diff. The spicy rose of Spellbound (no soap whatsoever) has been my fav or the rose scents. It is distinctly rose without being too sweet. -
Happy Dance - this one rules This smells exactly like a cup of creamy lapsang souchong tea. I splurged on this the day the Yules went down - so glad I did!!!!! WOW

Best of the 2008 Yules. Not seasonal at all. I get a hint of orange described above as well as the creamy wax and smoke. Subtle but has a decent throw (much better than the Shungas). This is the sexy scent you were hoping for in the Odes. I ordered this unsniffed with a back up bottle (EXCELLENT). If you missed HH - check ebay or the swaps to get some- very worth it. This doesn't smell like any other BPAL I own.

In bottle: kinda of a sharp hair spray/medicine like smell - what is it???? Wet: I know this scent - nope, no flowers, no spice (I recognize this smell) Dry: same as wet (runs to medicine cabinet) YES!!!!! DEEP WOODS OFF!!!!!!!!! A complete clone of OFF. seriously now - bug spray? However, I do really enjoy the Shojo 2009 Calendar I received with my lab order!
-
I tend to go for the sexy scents (resin, red musk Crowley et al) but I like this. Good throw, with a nice passion fruit/tropical smell to it. If you like passion fruit - you will love Agape. Great for summer.

This was part of a last minute yule panic order that consisted of Mme. Moriarty and a generous helping of the Shunga and Aphrodite collection. Of all the bottles I ordered, this is my favorite. In the bottle: wet pine - like a fresh cut tree (no weird chemicals detected) wait for it On the skin: wet pine (still fresh) and then it begins to morph. For the next 15-20 min the pine mellows out and something else emerges wait for it Dry:  Pine is gone. Here it is - the completely unexpected note. Warm asian spice - call it incense if you want- but this is not head shop material. We are talking warm, smokey sexy sexy sexy stuff. Hint of opium in there too. This is grown-up, midnight naughtiness. It is everything I hoped for in the Shunga scents and did not get. Moderate throw - lasting time on me was 3 hrs. Way longer than any of the Shunga or Aphrodite collection. Win for the lab. If you are like me and prefer the spicier BPALs you will want to try this complex scent. 5 out of 5 80 year old mother's reaction to scent in the bottle: doesn't smell like christmas to me!

In Bottle: Chocolate covered Snake Charmer (not Snake Oil). Very Boomslangish. Wet: Subtle fruit (cherry?) and patchouli emerges from the chocolate snake charmer. Decent throw. This does not have the strong vanilla undercurrent of the charmer. Dry: Hmm - a slight, weird chemical edge emerges (GO AWAY). 20 min later - chemical edge fades somewhat and I am left with a spicier boomslang. Interesting. 3.75 out of 5 - I'm going to let this age a bit. Perhaps chemical edge will fade completely and the scent will be smoother? Dudes - the lab did not send me a tarot card - I am hurt. My 80 year old mothers review of scent in bottle: weird but kinda interesting. She liked this better than the Shunga series. -
In bottle: smells like pear juice with maybe a hint of nutmeg (and I was hoping for big time NUTMEG!!!) Wet on skin: pear fades a bit, all spice is gone. This is a VERY LIGHT fragrance. No throw. Dry: What happened?? NO!!! It completely and utterly vanishes in 3 minutes. Test 2# Slather more on wrists, earlobes, neck - gone, 5 minutes this time. Both O and Morocco do the same thing on me. Rating: 2 out of 5 (decent smell just doesn't last - and staying power is important during Valentines Day - HA!) My 80 year old mother's review of the scent in the bottle: ugh - is that candy?
-
In the bottle: flat ginger ale (not ginger beer- just a bit of some spice) Wet: hardly any throw, sweet with just a hint of spice. Dry: This is a VERY LIGHT fragrance. A bit more of floral/sweet/melon emerges. No matter how much you spill on yourself, the scent stays close to wrist. Reminds me of Vaseline Intensive Care hand lotion or shampoo. Gone in 1 hr. Really not getting sex appeal from this, more of a dryer sheet vibe. But hey, clean and static free is sexy, right? Out of 5 - this is a 2 My 80 year old mom liked it (disturbing eh?), she said it reminded her of a very watered down Black Opal.

In the bottle: dryer sheet. Wet on skin: warm dryer sheet Dry: Dryer sheet remains 1 hour and then scent completely disappears. Zippo. No throw and I slathered it on. Not an unpleasant scent but it might be cheaper to buy a box of snuggle sheets.
