I really love this one! Until it dries down... At first when I apply it, it is bright and fresh and the right kind of sweet without being foody, and yet not cloyingly floral or intoxicating either. It's got gorgeous citrus notes from the peach and bergamot, which are not astringent and kept in check by the soft creamy floral! Very beautiful and well balanced. It seems fairly light, and I feel like the peach, white musk, and bergamot are playing friendly. Yum, lovely! However, as it dries down it gets STRONGER somehow ! This is going old-lady smoked musk on me. Unfortunately that oakmoss takes center stage right there with the heavy (now dried type) florals while all the citrusy/fruit qualities evaporate/become jam-like and it becomes far, far sweeter. Well, the oakmoss makes it earthy and a tiny bit dirty, forcing the white musk into a musk-type incense, on a bed of dried flower petals . It has become very dry and powdery. I don't like what happened to the musk and how it seemed to eat everything and dry the whole blend out (but then again it might be the oakmoss doing the drying out and amping just plain dry "sweet" smell that I associate with generic incense.

For the funeral home job, I would highly recommend Mr. Ibis. For one thing, the character works at a funeral home. It's very soft, calming, light, and long-lasting. Omgosh I just read the reviews... sounds so beautiful, and perfect! Thank you on za list it goes.
-
Wow, thanks those are all some gorgeous sounding scents, some of which are entirely new to me! Definitely updated my wishlist ... and I can see the connection between your suggestions and my self description pretty well .

Hey, I'm reviving this thread because although I don't have anything near an interview yet, I am hoping to try and get a job at a florists, and also at a funeral home! It's been a while since I've been in the job market and I'm kind of doubting myself and feeling a little anxious/negative about the prospects. I'd love to know which nice, light, uplifting and yet sophisticated/mature/possible solemn work-appropriate scents y'all would recommend for working at a florist and funeral home. Thank you!! As a side note I will mention that smoky resin type scents really do not work on me, and often cause headaches and do not help my concentration.

What the heck? I don't get any vanilla or sandalwood (which I was hoping for) ... but DANG floral and incense all over the place. This blend is vibrant and bright, and just a little bit warm, but certainly not for me. I do blame whatever floral is in here though as it goes ultra old-lady soap on me. I thought the drydown would calm it and bring forth some of that coveted vanilla and sandalwood... but nope, just got worse, and I had to wash it off. What is that powdery sweet floral? I have no clue but it is pure soap or old-timey cologne on me. Fresh, flowers, powder, and smoke, in all the wrong ways.
-
Hmm... when I originally got a decant of this blend I didn't like it much, and so stuffed it away for ageing. Upon taking it out today, it has calmed down and become less astringent... it's much nicer! A wonderful light is spicy, creamy, but still clean. I do not detect much orange at all, but I suspect it has coupled with the linden blossom to become soft and clean. I detect beeswax wrapping up the whole fragrance, and a sweet smokiness which is almost incense-y or resinous (bourbon vanilla?) around the outskirts of this blend. The amber seems to mingle throughout all of the notes, warming and softening the whole. It remains innocent even through the sultry notes. Very pretty, but not for me in the day-to-day and just a hint too smoky/resinous to be a perfect blend for me (I am very adverse to any smoke or resin). During the drydown though, what there is of smoke and resin fades out and this becomes lighter, creamy and sweet, though also a bit powdery on me -- which would be the Bpal honey. Luckily it isn't loaded with honey, so it doesn't completely overwhelm it all.
-
Wow -- this is so unique. When I first got it in 2010, I thought it was nice enough but it didn't really grip and so I just put it away to age. Took it out yesterday and WOAH . Nice. Upon re-acquainting myself with the notes, I realize this is my first brush ever with olive blossom .... and it's beautiful. Perhaps one of my favorite florals. So soft, almost green, but oh-so-creamy. The cardamom adds a subdued, sweet (almost fresh?) spice which is so understated that it does not take over the perfume. Very well balanced. To me, this blend is not cool at all... but I think the heat of the amber is controlled by the snow ball, which mellows gorgeously. I like how the lily and bergamot stay in the back ground.

I want a BPAL that smells like Bath & Body Works...
Shadowdawn replied to sihaya09's topic in Recommendations
So, I was wondering if there are any possibly fragances from BPAL that might be similar to either one of my two all-time favorite BBW scents: Amber Blush and Forever Sunshine. Forever Sunshine: Forever Sunshine is a warm embrace of juicy tangerine, pink peonies, creamy sandalwood & sweet praline Top Notes: juicy tangerine, golden apricot, sparkling mandarin, exotic berries Mid Notes: gardenia petals, freesia, pink peonies Dry Notes: vanilla bean gelato, creamy sandalwood, nuzzly musks, a touch of sweet praline For what it's worth... the berries, gardenia, sandalwood, and orange notes (which are a little ceamsicle-ish as opposed to fresh) do NOT stand out in this blend for me. Amber Blush: Top Notes: Sparkling Bergamot, Juicy Mandarin, Raspberry Champagne Mid Notes: Jasmine, Gardenia Petals, Star Anise, Apricot Nectar, Magnolia Blossom Dry Notes: Creamy Vanilla Suede, Crystalized Amber, Golden Sandalwood, Soft Musk I can barely detect the anise, jasmine, and mandarin notes in this; they seem to be either in the far backdrop or non-existent as far as my chemistry goes. -
When your favorite GC blends are discontinued
Shadowdawn replied to darklorelei's topic in Recommendations
Okay, so I've been desperately holding on to my last bottle of Moon Rose (I know it was discontinued quite a little while ago and I missed a major stock-up .. bad choice since it's the closest thing to my signature scent), which is now running dangerously low with no replacement in sight.... and I was hoping someone here might be able to help recommend me a similar GC scent that could be just similar enough. Edit for scent description: Moon Rose: A crisp, pale, almost translucent rose dusted by moonflower and midnight dew. -
If your top 5 scents are... Then try these!
Shadowdawn replied to Ella LaRose's topic in Recommendations
If you like Morocco, then you may like The Lion, Bastet or Coyote. Coyote is a personal favorite of mine. The amber behaves and doesn't turn to baby powder on me. I think these are all in the similar vein. Thank you for the suggestions! I have tried Bastet and it sadly did not work out on me (too much like sweet incense), but I have not tried The Lion or Coyote! They are now on my list to try. -

It's also an LE (I know, sorry!) but if you like Katrina Van Tassle then you may like Abhisarika from the Lupercalia '07 update: Damascus rose, African orchid, cream accord, and Kashmir musk. And I find Queen of Sheba to be very similar to Morocco, with just a little bit of an underlying nut note: Her scent is a bounty of golden honeyed almonds and a whisper of African and Middle Eastern spices. Thank you! I definitely added Abhisarika to my list, it does sound very pleasant! -
Hmm, describing oneself... certainly an interesting feat . I've been here for a while now but never have managed to get around to this yet. I shall give it a shot! I consider myself to be very laid back, in an absent-minded lazy-housecat kind of way, but I also struggle with mental stress as I tend to over worry and I can be a stickler for some things. I appreciate exotic tastes and cultures, and love ancient styles (though I struggle with ancient-themed perfumes as they all tend to be too smoky, heavy, floral, or resinous-- I do like 'Morocco' though). I consider myself quite feminine, and I enjoy feminine things, but when I put the effort into going beyond "respectably comfortable and presentable" I tend to have a sophisticated womanly style, with maybe a touch of fun boho somewhere in there. I welcome the opportunity to be super-classy once in a while (really I could probably spend half of my time doing so happily) with the whole shebang, but usually I am minimalist in my day to day- with a twist. I enjoy the decadent things in life, but don't consider myself much of an overly "bubbly" person, and I don't tend to obsess over sweets. I am definitely not a morning person lol, but I love sunrises and sunsets and warm beaches and relaxing massages. I can be quite the firy hellcat when I get really mad, I've heard , and I know I am of a very protective nature. Currently I am at a crossroads and trying to figure out my life; but I am not unfulfilled either... just maybe in need of some balance and a recovery of my drive, my old creativity, my ambition. I do have/did have a vixen-esque side, but she rarely comes out to play (if ever). Mostly I spend my time being supportive, calm; quietly and observantly in the background. Once in a while I really like to get wild though! I enjoy listening to people's problems, advice giving, and generally trying to help those that seek it (besides goofing around with my hubby, cooking, and relaxing vacations which I also enjoy). Well, I hope this helps!

Ooh, cool, I could use some help! (unfortunately I don't get to usually experiment with a ton of perfumes, and usually get attached to things which are either LE's or discontinued....) My top 5 (in order of love) right now would be: Moon Rose Strawberry moon 12' (but after it's calmed and become less fresh/sugary) Hope Morocco Katrina Van Tassle Please help! -
In the bottle: urgh..... some strange, gummy, almost chewing/bubble-gum sort of scent. I can tell there is more behind it in complexity, but right now it smells like overly-sweet soapy chewing gum. On my skin immediately: Already much nicer than from the bottle! That gumminess begins to tone down immediately and warm up a bit. Then: holy moly honey!! ALL the honey. The honey really drowns this blend out right now. It's a very spiced and musky honey, but almost resin-like in a way. I get NO apricot which is so sad because I love apricot . After a little while: A shy fresh note emerges.. the apricot? And the honey stops screaming its musk in my face. A hit of pepper at the end. I dunno how I feel about this one exactly... it smells a little off to me, and still faintly like chewing gum.... but also green and spicy at the same time.

Hmm.. I like this blend! I absolutely love the pear in it. I find it completely true to the natural scent of pears, but almost a little too sweet-- as if though they were coated in syrup. The undertone of honey and cream in this blend is the same (I find) as the one in Katrina Van Tassle and Nymphes De Pave. Oddly enough, that is what I do not like about this blend... in the drydown (for me at least), almost all the fresh and juicy pear fades away and it smells a little too similar to a faded KVT/NDP but with less spiciness and no floral tone. I was hoping for some vanilla, but don't get any from this . I feel that when the pear fades it becomes a little too sweet and musky, for what I expected. Still a fairly good blend though!

This is quite a lovely and nice scent! At first sniff and initially after the application, the first thing to hit my nose is champagne! Super ultra fizzy, bubbly, effervescent, gurgling-over-the-top-of-the-glass sweet champagne. I can smell a slight "alcoholic" tone to it, but it isn't overly boozy. Smells a little like strawberry cream soda but a lot less sweet than soda. I can smell the gentle baby pink strawberries in the "glass" too. The scent sticks around for a long time, even after a shower. I'm surprised by how long the champagne note stays... but once it settles down and mellows after a while a beautiful complex creaminess emerges from the strawberries... almost like a strawberry "dust" or sprinkle. Definitely a blend I would wear if I wanted to be a sparkling fairy . I also find that the base notes are a dead-ringer for a LUSH blend... but for the life of me I can't think of which one. I think it's one of their bath bombs, and probably pink or white in color though. I almost detect a creamy citrus undertone as well.
-
Wow, I have to say... this is absolutely delicious! This blend is very fresh-- like fresh strawberries-- but not so fresh that it becomes sharp. I find the strawberry note to be true, but "perfumey" enough not to smell exactly like I rolled in strawberries. At first application Strawberry Moon 2012 comes out really bright and vibrant with a strong throw. I can smell the fresh wild strawberry with just a backdrop of the green "milky dandelion sap" and grasses; a soft almost musky undertone of honey is layered on the bottom. After a while the strawberries relax a little allowing for the spiced (almost musky floral) honey to pop through a lot more and settle. As time wears on the blend gets softer and creamier, the "green" and "fresh" sap note becoming more like milk and dried grasses. The strawberry never leaves however and sticks around. On me, I can smell a very very faint "plastic" tone to the dying strawberries, but I can look past it considering the deliciousness of the blend on a whole. Note: after one test application I found myself having to wash my hands (for other reasons, not the perfume!)while the blend was still fairly fresh. When I used the hand soap, the scent of SM2013 stuck around even after.... but it morphed to smell exactly like strawberry scented shampoo on clean hair!!!! It was probably only thanks to the addition of soap though.

Sad news here. When I had initially received Stinky, I really liked it. It was powdery and soft, and not cloying-- but gentle in a wear-daily sort of way. However, having just dug it out of aging.... I must say, all my nose can recognize is baby-powder type powdered bubblegum. gahh.. sadly this bottle and I shall have to part ways.
-
Sad news here... I have had this blend for years, and at first (fresh) it was stunningly amazing on me. I loved it! Truly mouthwatering.... but not in an overly foody sense. I loved the creamy sweetness with soft undertones of spice. Well, I have recently dug it out of aging and.... it's turned to wine. No joke... it's like the entire blend fermented into a wine! I hate boozy smells, but I suspect for someone who was interested in a fruit mead this might do the trick. Sadly, this bottle and I shall have to part ways.

Regarding knit things... I am not too nuts about knit things. When it comes to scarves and things I prefer the fabric/sewn type. I would probably like knit socks though because WARRRMM! If your Witch were to create a cookbook of recipes she thought you'd like, would you be interested in that sort of thing? And if so, what sort of recipes would you be interested in? Oh yes, absolutely! And, any kind Especially unique multi-cultural dishes or dishes with folklore behind them! Spices? Allll of the (unique) spices! Also, rubbing spices made with tea, organic spices, or just unique spices on their own such as Grains of Paradise, nigella seeds, vanilla bean, etc. Not too much of a fan of fennel, but it would be okay in a blend. I am also a huge fan of herbs-- especially rare and harder to find ones (vervain, mugwort, sweetgrass, meadowsweet, etc.) And essential oils of all kinds are loved. Do you prefer to receive whole coffee beans or ground? Also, if you like flavoured blends, what sort of flavours? (caramels, nuts, chocolate, etc.) Whole beans or ground, decaf, dark and smooth if plain roast.... but I LOVE flavored coffee. The only nuts I love are macadamia nut flavor or hazelnut... otherwise, I'm all about the vanillas, spices, pumpkin, brulee, etc. How do you feel about nail polish? If you like it, are there any brands or colors in which you are interested? Eh, don't need any now thanks . Unless it was a crazy unique color type, but I do tend to stock almost every color except for neon's which I am not fond of. What about makeup? What brands do you prefer and which products would you most enjoy receiving? I never say no to a good all natural colored lip balm, lip gloss, or lip stick. Maybe a liquid eye liner in an interesting color. I am actually looking for an ALL NATURAL pencil eyeliner in a turquoise or teal color that has good color payoff. -Your feelings on Adagio teas: If you've never had anything from them, would you be open to trying them? If you HAVE had them and like them, name some favorites blends. Never heard of before, but upon digging-- OMG THEY SOUND AMAZING! I love EVERYTHING Rooibos, Decaf, and Herbal. Especially: spice, orange, vanilla (decaf), all the herbal teas... uhm, yea, I'd probably need a variety pack. -Do you like video games? Are there any you want to play? Do you have a large library? Er... not huge on the gaming ... I only really like two or so. -Name three BPAL scents you have tried, but are dying to get more of. Moon Rose, Morocco, Pele ....and that's about it for now really I'm very picky about committing to scents and prefer the lighter ones. I think I'm still in a try-it-all stage. -Do you like/have space to garden? If so, what do you grow? I do, but, I have extreme shade on my property. -Gift cards/vouchers - yay or nay? If you like them - which stores would you like one for? meh... I would not mind an Etsy or Amazon gift card, though. -Is there anything from a farmer's market you might like? Honey I suppose or something else that would last a good long time and isn't candy or have anything to do with blueberries, artichokes, or okra. Sock Dreams: anything non-sheer (or very thickly lacy) and thigh high. If I were your witch and were to paint you something, what would you absolutely love, what would you feel ambivalent toward, and what would you not like to see or receive? I'm not too heavily into abstract. I prefer fall or foliage scenes, especially close ups, or something gothic/romantic with the moon in it, or fairy themed and whimsical is always welcome as long as it's got a lot of classiness and flow to it. I don't like blocky or chunky paintings, and I don't mind nudity. Lush There are a couple of things I like occasionally; Ceridwen's Cauldron Bath Melt Buche de Noel Facial Cleanser Porridge Soap Sea Vegetable Soap (with as much of the scrubby bits as possible) Mask of Magnaminty Are you okay with semi-spicy foods right now? I'm thinking like curry or chipotle? If you were to choose a chili powder would you go Hot, Medium, or Mild? The spicier the better! I love the hottest of the hot, even in sweet combinations. Speak to me of jewelry! If you like earrings, what kind? Dangly earrings, hoops, studs - what kind do you like? How long do you like your necklaces? Or would you prefer to just get a pendent, so you can size the chain yourself? Details, they make me happy. I love dangly earrings in all metal types and all styles! I don't like hoops-- unless it's a messy boho gypsy style, and I generally dislike studs. I love chokers, and short-mid length necklaces, any longer and it usually disappears beneath my clothes. The other option is super long necklaces that go beyond my scoop line, or fit nicely over a turtleneck for fall/winter. Pendants are ALWAYS welcome Home-made baked goods or other food stuffs OK? Eh... I'm not that nuts about home baked, but a home made candy like salted caramels (which I love... a lot.. delicious... chewy..tangy... *drool*), peppermint bark, or lollipops would be much loved! Is there anything you'd really like to have/try from Trader Joe's, or any other popular-but-not-available-everywhere store? I've never actually got to shop at a Trader Joe's (although they seem super awesome), but by perusing their website I can see their "pumpkin body butter" sounds nommy. And maybe some unique decaf coffee, or herbal spiced teas, soaps, etc. I dunno, surprise me! Are there any craft project/s you are working on now that you need supplies for? Or rather, is there a craft project you've been wanting to do but need stuff to start? Not particularly, but I'll never say no to jewelry supplies and findings! How feel you about lip balms, glosses, and lipsticks? Any particular favourite scents/flavours? Any favourite makers/sellers? I like natural lip balms with plenty of color to them! The only lip gloss I like is (natural and non sticky with pretty good color payoff and stay): http://www.theallnat....com/lip-gloss/ In colors like: frosted peach, plum crazy, red hot mama, Bugless red, sassy cherry. I like a lot of lipstick types. I love natural things, but I find sometimes the natural lipsticks can be too shiny/bleed too much so I like matte colors from brands like MAC, etc. in red-toned, or even mauve/heather toned colors. Table Games - do you play them? If so, which ones, and which versions, and are there any goodies you might like related to them? I don't play table games or board games much, don't have too many chances to play. I've got some canned goods put up -- mostly jams/jellies, some apple butter, some applesauce. Want some? If so, what kind(s)? Mhh... spiced apple butter, I like to cook with it. But jams come in second-- esp. orange and/or fig type jam/marmalade. I like more unique jams like currant, quince, black raspberry, sour cherry, gooseberry, etc. The only jam I don't like is blueberry. Teavana or Starbucks? I love all the tea and coffee things from many brands (esp. flavored and decaf!)and paraphernalia, but dislike Starbucks and would rather brew my own. Really interested in some Raven's Brew Coffee (of the decaf variety). Say your witch works at a used bookstore. what kinds of things might you like from there? Anything Tarot, runes, "new age", or cookery related works for me. Plant and herbal books also. Or fictional books set in Ancient societies, or supernatural horror/dramas. Are you a fan of anything that you would like a t-shirt of? If so, what size would you wear? I love most of the B-pal shirts, Harry Potter shirts, anything pumpkin or Halloween themed, and don't mind second hand at all. I wear a regular ladies size Medium. Hey, Witchee; Socks, scarves, hats or arm warmers? Scarves! Scarves all the way, followed by ear warmers, and then maybe socks lol. Do you love, hate, or are indifferent to.....pumpkin flavored things I prefer pumpkin scented to flavored, but I do love all pumpkin things in general.

On me this is a very creamy, powdery, musky, sweet smoky scent. In the bottle it starts off like a very fresh version of my beloved Katrina Van Tassle . I really get the "white fig" thing here. As soon as I put it on, it still smells like a fresh Katrina Van Tassle... but then.. as it dries down even by the minute, that freshness all goes away and becomes very sweet and powdery on me. It's got a hint of smoky muskiness (bourbon vanilla I suspect with that honey, which will always amp on me). I really like how the rose is not too overpowering. Actually I have to really look for the rose to get it, and even then it smells quite a lot like a totally dried, preserved rose, and not like a fresh one. Then there is a large siwl of powdery, musky smokiness. I actually find it less sweet than Kartirna Van tassle, despite vanilla and honey notes. I think it's gone very dark and broody on me.
-
OOOOOH I LIKE THIS ONE I find it to be a fresh, fun, energetic fall scent which is totally not cloying or smokey or resiny or too sweet. but without a doubt it is definitely a fall scent, I would say fall so far as to the brink of snow. In the bottle: Fruit punch with a heavy spiced apple base. Kinda unexpected and not all that fall-ish unless perhaps you were at a party with tons of fruitpunch made with a hint of spices. On me after a few moments: The booze doesn't come out too much for me at all, but the orange slices and lemon zest seem candied (the brown sugar mayhaps,) taking away any REAL ideas of citrus that may have existed. I love that the clove and nutmeg don't come out too strongly, and the cinnamon even stays in check (perhaps by the presence of the other spices). Despite it's warmth and heat, I love how fresh it remains due to the apple and booze note, which doesn't dissapate, or become powdery. For me, this is as true to a hot apple cider as there ever will be for me. Oh i SO hope they come out with this again for next halloween, I would LOVE a bottle!
-
Definitely a much softer version of Samhain! Which I had the worst experience ever with lol. It must share a smiliar note (or two) that give it a "pee" smell for me . Perhaps the evil patchouli. Or fir needles? :S besides that i get cloying resin... kinda smells like mulched up leaves and slate. A bit of warm firey cozyness from the cognac and hazelnut comes into play a while later. Reminiscent of embers and a low fire without notes of cinnamon (which i noticed is in alot of bpals 'fire' type blends).
-
Yummy!! I don't think it smells like October much, but i do get a nice pepperynesss on the hubby. In the bottle: kinda astringent pepper, hubby says it smells like dryer sheets, lol 0_o. On him after a while when it settles down and mellows out: Sweet dry leaves! And white pepper. Also brings forth a note of clean gentle manly cologne (dry autumn winds?). Not very rough at all, but sweetly sophisticates. Also not too sweet to be a man's scent. Very nice on him, but unfortunately not enough true wood or log-cabin type smoke/chillyness for fall to be October.

Black leather, oppoponax, tobacco, and black amber. mhhh... definitely interesting. TOTALLY reminds me of Chimera, and maybe Morocco too! In the bottle: sweet ambers and musky dar leather (not my typical blend so I wouldn't be able to figure out the oppoponax note), a bit sharp and cologny. On skin: all sharp and cologny bits are almost totally gone leaving spicy, sweet, dark and VERY sexy leather. Definitely unisex, but it would come off much darker and sexier on a woman in my opinion, and almost a BIT TOO sweet for a man, depending on his chemistry (doesn't really work on my hubby). Reminds me of whip but spicy instead of floral. Pretty good for those smoky, sexy, naughty dark times .. or butt kicking times. It would work for exemplifying dark power too.
