okies, so my first review in a while... Got this for my husband because he is a TOTAL lover of fall and smoke, woods, etc smell. ...hate it . On him and didn't dare try it on myself. In the bottle: Not bad, very little (no) crispy dry fresh autumnness or clean water, but a lot of warm dirt and squishy needles maybe. On him: urgh... what the heck happened... might be the patchouli, but it all mutated to PEE! On him after a little while: The pee smell gets stronger and stronger, and now he smells a bit like a hobo Sorry, not a keeper .

Hello all, I searched the recommendations forum to see if there was something like this up, but i couldn't find anything! Please let me know if it's in the wrong section. I was thinking we could all post our pictures here (of different outfits or times in our life, or styles), or some image we associate with ourselves for various reasons (such as jewlery or flowers, pictures, statues), and then get advice based on that-- what kind of scent would be best paired with that outfit, look, hair, event, etc. And anyway, I would love to hear what scent you guys would imagine would go well with this picture of me: My favorite perfumes from BPAL thus far have been: Katrina Van Tassle, Inferno, Agape, Dana O'Shea, Moon Rose (love love love!), Absinthe (to layer with sweeter scents such as Stinky). My other all-time favorite perfumes are: First Light Organza by Givinchy, Rock n Rose by Valentino, Masquarade by Bob Mackie, Jacob by Jacob, and Eternal Summer from the Bath and Body Works. Any thoughts? Thanks

Awww you're so pretty, and that smile is gorgeous! Love the red hair... hmm, well based on the description of what you were doing I would think something a bit earth, but I would also say there's some sweet fire also! Hmm... perhaps, Pele: Whimsical, temperamental, radiant and ravishingly beautiful Goddess of Volcanoes, Fire, Lightning and Dance. She is the Mother of Eruptions and the personification of destructive power. Volcanic eruptions are said to be a side-effect of her jealous rages and her epic quarrels with her siblings are legendary. This perfume embodies her gentler, benign aspect as the capricious Goddess of Dance: muguet and Hawaiian white ginger enveloped by warm, damp tropical blooms. Eden (for that lush gardeness and activity): At the center of the Garden of Eden stands the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Though modern interpretations of the Bible claim that it was an apple that the Serpent of the Tree offered to Eve, it is widely believed that the true Fruit of True Knowledge was, in fact, a fig. This oil contains the innocence of the Garden, coupled with the Truth and Erudition found in the fruit of the Tree of Evil: fig leaf, fig fruit, honeyed almond milk, toasted coconut and sandalwood. The Hanging Gardens (more of the same): This perfume is an interpretation of the Hanging Gardens by night, based on further accounts of its fruit and flora: date palm, ebony, fir, pomegranate, plum, two pears, quince, fig, and grapevine with plumeria, three gardenias and dry rose. The Zieba Tree: A massive tree that held, in its lowest boughs, a nest of bare-breasted men and women. The souls sprawled within the Zieba Tree’s branches were trapped in reverie, lost for all eternity in their fantasies. A dreamlike, listless scent, misty and hazed, with wisps of white sandalwood, eddying musks the colors of eventide, shimmering pale resins, davana, lemon blossom, orange blossom, and white peach. Aureus (for it's moon-like quality): True, perfect golden light, refined into an incomparably glorious scent.

Ohh, wonderful suggestions, I always did want to try Jezabel and London! It'd be so exciting if you wanted to put up a pic to! Hmm... mac mac.... i've never had one, but i assume you upload pictures to a hosting site ( I use www.photobucket.com ), by going to upload now and just selecting the files and uploading it, then just take the link next to (or under) the picture and copy/paste it here in the response box.... not sure if there is another procedure to this with a mac though...

To The Amber Dark - I highly suggest something from Wanderlust for you, and maybe J-Horror. AMSTERDAM Tulips, peony, fresh flowing water and crisp green grasses. CROSSROADS The forks of the road: an in-between place, sacred and tangibly magickal in innumerable cultures and faiths. This scent is dark with mystery, taut with power. A chill twilit garden of blooms over dry earth and mosses, heavily laden with incense and offertory herbs. GLASGOW The rich scent of wild blackberry breezing over gentle rosy heather. KYOTO A gentle, soothing blend of cherry blossom, white sandalwood and star anise LONDON Venerable Victorian Tea Rose… twisted, blackened and emboldened with wickedness. ^.^ Don't take my word on it, but some of these seem like they may suit you and your free spirit, along with your creativeness. Seems like you're going down many different paths these days (hence crossroads).

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

As far as similarities go, i noticed an uncanny similarity between "pomegranate II" in the Pomegranate Grove from the 2010 Weenies and Bath and Body Works "Midnight Pomegranate ". -

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

All of my life i've been looking to somehow match the limited edition Bob Mackie "Masquerade" perfume, it was the first one i ever fell in love with!!! The notes are: "A gentle oriental fragrance, that leaves any woman feeling refreshed. This feminine scent possesses a blend of oriental flowers with woods and musk. Masquerade is perfect for daytime wear..With subtle notes of peach, passion flower, jasmine, orchid and mimosa along with vanilla." I find it a really delicate yet sensual blend that never overpowers or becomes too cloyingly sweet. ^.^ I hope there's something here to that effect! I can smell peach, apple, roses, vanilla, sandalwood and musk. The drydown is wonderful powdery and I find it similar to TRESOR by Lancome. Edit: Because i found the actual notes!! Top Notes: Freesia, mandarin, lily of the valley. Heart Notes: Violet, passion flower, jasmine, osmanthus. Base Notes: Sandalwood, musk, woods. And, yet another description: The scent begins with notes of peach, golden mimosa, passion flower, exotic jasmine, and orchid followed by a rich and smooth midnote of vanilla. The basenote blend and combination of a sensual Cashmere accord of warm woods and sheer musks, amber, and woods. -
BPAL scents appropriate for very young children?
Shadowdawn replied to beetiger's topic in Recommendations
I don't have any kids yet, though a good friend of mine does have a 13/14 year old girl. She LOVED LOVED LOVED "Boo", which i put into a cream base for her. She said it smelled just like white chocolate cocoa. ^.^ But not overpoweringly foody. haha she wanted to put it all over her face and sleep on it! lol I like Boo myself too, but i love layering it with anything i feel could use the "creamy" scent like heavy florals or astringent greens (absinthe for example). -
Oh, *sigh* I do so love it when i stumble upon this thread *sniffle*. This could be bias speaking, but to me, Katrina Van Tassle always seemed appropriate, taking from the white roses and cream "maidenly scent" with just the right touch of cool musk from the honey. Enjoy the love kiddies!

Lush to BPAL scent comparisons (BNever included too)

Porridge Soap scent?!? This is the BEST (next to Vanillary)... and the soap just doesnt last long enough... and would get sticky if i just left the lather on me . There has got to be something that gets close to it without becomming cloyingly sweet (note: drink me type sweet food blends kind of make me want to throw up a bit sometimes ) Oh and also...Sunnyside bath melt thingy.. so summery! Anything like that, that doesnt involve flowers? (that hate me). Thanks and im really sorry if theres an answer to this somewhere in this thread i missed lol. -

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?
Shadowdawn replied to Absinthe's topic in Recommendations
I'm not sure if this one is in here... but does anyone know what a good equivalent for Agape is??? . I'm fearing for that perfect autumn day when i won't have my perfect autum scent to go along with.... ir even anything a little leafier is good-- though the vanilla creaminess is what i NEED... -
hmm... In the imp: Not too bad.. i smell fresh ginger and grass with a hint of herbs (sage?!... some SWEET herb) On the skin: refreshing and sweet... alot of ginger comes through after about an hour: ICK!!!! *gags* Irish Spring soap..... this has become ALLL soap on me.... soap and deodorant :S MANLY deodorant. Overall: I must go wash this off immediately!

"Oh my I LOVEEEE THIS!!!! My skin blends milk wonderfully (and usually honey, depending on what it's mixed with). In the imp: DELICIOUS!!!! Although, not in an edible way.... and I have no clue where the milk is, it blends so seamlessly... I get all honey and tasty pom/fig (which i first mistook as pineapple) and a touch of grape. On the skin: Mmmm gooood... I am SOO happy this doesn't share that suffocating 'food scent' that Eat me, drink me, o, eden, and a ton of other BPAL scents have on me. It's all warm honey now... with a hint of pineapple-ish summery goodness. Later: This is PERFECT for summer!!! It's soft honey with fresh grapes... and deliciousness! Overall: reasonable staying power (a dab on each side of the neck lasts about 5 hours) This is like Katrina Van Tassle for the summer!!!!" 2019 EDIT FOR DECADE-LONG-AGEING UPDATE: Good lord, it has now been ten years... heavens... making this blend 12 years old. Lordy, lordy. I can't believe I reviewed this a decade ago, and I'm back again now lol. Who even was I then?! This is still a perfect summer scent, and despite the predominant elements of fruits and milk... which sometimes tend not to age as well as other scent components. It's aged remarkably, with very little morphing. Little... but not none. What was vaguely pineapple like... has gone full on 100% pineapple. But it's still not cloying (on me!). I know for some reason this particular blend seemed not to work with many people's body chemistry (I'm guessing grapes and milk, or pomegranate and milk--- sour fruit and milk in general, is not a popular scent), so I have no idea how it suits me so well--and for so long, both in terms of my body and the oil, but it has. The distinct notes are now nearly impossible to ascertain however, except for the bright, crystal pop of pineapple, with maybe a vague creaminess, like toasted meringue. It almost gives off a candy-like/candied feeling, and might be just a tad lighter, and fade a bit faster, than it used to. Surprisingly, the honey isn't drowning anything out or going to powder, which it often does for me, so it's just light enough. On the drydown however, the one, particular, strongest note that emerges is actually the somewhat-effervescent grape (the same grape that was in Agape, which turned against me after some time). And I will always, and forever, immediately be transported to the memory of the summer I got this blend, exploring the old streets of my old city in the shimmering heat of the dying day.

ooh this is pleasant... In the imp: Sweet and fresh.. i smell.. grape and pear.. On the skin: A little more sweet than fresh (my skin amps sweet and ignores citrus in the least) Later: Nice and breezy... like a soft breeze wafting through a fruit orchard with wild flower comming through. Overall: I like it... perhaps a TAD too sweet... maybe a little jam-like after a while... but the fruit is perfect for the season!!!!
-
In the imp: OH MY GOD POWERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!! And insanely dark (i'm thinking this is the scent of Voldemort on a good day... then again, everyone could smell him comming lol) On the skin: It suffocates me... i think of dark black whisps of sentinent fog twisting around my neck until i want to puke... After: There was no after... i had to run and wash it off immediately . Overall: Not the thing for me!
-
was a frimp... In the imp: EARTH... wet earth and all the things this implies... worms, wood particles, small flowers, dankness.... On the skin: More green.... like stems, with a hint of soil Later: Like those stems bloomed on a pile of compost.... >.>' Overall: Just not working; far too earthy for me... i perfer not to smell like a vegetable garden...
-
ehhh... In the Imp: sharp, powerful salt and metal On the Skin right away: Does not morph over much, less metal... and something sweet is seeping through... After a while: sweet salt?!?! :S HOW does that even happen lol... Overall: smells a bit like... sweat that has been covered up with a VERY thick floral perfume. The throw is insane.... has lasted about two days!!!

Looking for any Harry Potter scent recommendations
Shadowdawn replied to Trish's topic in Recommendations
hmm.. maybe Ultraviolet for Bellatrix...or Harlot, or MAYBE... Hell's Belle Ochosi, Eve, or the ghost for Miss Granger . Anyway, this is what i imagine they might smell like lol. -
In the imp: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (then again, i HATE vetivert.) I had to shut this imp before i threw up. *sigh* okay, i don't give up that easy. Taking it outside i opened it tentitively and held it about a foot from my nose while sniffing. What i got was; campfire ashes, and rasins. :S wet on: ashes and rasins. after a bit: ew YUK. nothing but suffocating sweltering gooey resin. later: No better... the throw is RIDICULOUSLY long. like, 25 hours. and it barely even dissipates. verdict: i hate this. and i love many bpal scents lol. My mother wore this once in the CAR (freshly on) and even with all the windows down i felt like i was going to throw up and my hed was spinning by the time the car stopped.

In the Imp: grapefruit and.... incense? :S Something thick and sweet....(in a non foody way) Wet on: all the citrus has vanished, but it has morphed the "thick" sweetness into a clean sweetness. shortly after: like.... some sort of yellow flower... marigold? daisy? some "yellow" flower type thing. But fresh flower, nothing like airfreshener. a while later: kinda like.... :S herbal... soap. Final verdict: I am not a huge fan of flowers, would have LOVED it if the citrus hung around. but, again, another one that is lovely on my mother.
