A Demonstration of Affectionate Excitement

Mmm white frankincense I clearly love! It's sweet but woody from the cedar and fuzzy from the beeswax. Sad I didn't get a bottle of this! -
Queen Venus with a Hood Striped Gold and Black
cinnamonster replied to Lycanthrope's topic in Lupercalia
It smells like rose but bright and metallic at the same time, the gold part? Not a keeper for me. -
In the vial (that's as far as I've gotten!) it's revolting, like sour milk in with the perfume. I'm fairly glad I trusted my instincts and didn't go fb. I'll be back with skin test! Skin: better but still not me. This has the note from white rabbit that I hate. The champs a for me is minimal throw. It's not what I hoped but it is almost what I expected based on reviews. Later though!!! I love it. Incense yumminess!

First off the vetiver is so minimal it has gone in seconds, then there's an apricot note in top of a woody vanilla-y scent akin to atlas moth. 30 mins later..Depraved is what it reminds me of most. If you like that there's hope if you miss out on getting a bottle of this. It's masculine but I like it.

I can't believe I didn't review this (or buy any..lone imp it is for me). It's very purple smelling, purple frankincense. It smells like plum scented quality incense, it's lovely on my skin. I'm not sure why it has had so few admirers. It's like something from Once UPon a Time.

I bought two bottles in anticipation of it's loveliness. It's cheering, thanks to Frank, but it's fairly flat, it's frankincense mainly, with a hint of vanilla. I know it only has two notes, so what did I expect right? I think I just wanted more vanilla.

Pear, that fades fast, then the kind of pot pouriri rose that I don't like. Poop.

I received this today, I had never noticed it even before I saw it in a sale thread, but it seemed like it might work for me. The notes and breaking it down: tuberose...yes this is mainly the predominant note blackened vanilla musk...this is adding a background creaminess but is certainly not foody at all to me. caraway...this was there for a fleeting moment (thank you caraway for away-ing!) white gardenia...it's there with the tuberose, perhaps maybe they are on equal footing. It's not a screechy white floral this, at all. red amber...never experienced anything called red amber so I am not sure but it isn't really doing anything I associate with amber for me. black velvet accord...there's a fuzziness to this, something at the moment I am really into at the moment (as there is in horsehoe bat), it is either coming from this or the musk jasmine sambac...deep down I might just detect this. I'm saddeded to see it's in here actually, as being pregnant, I should steer clear for now if it's essential oil and not a perfume! Grrr. I won't reapply after this test. How do I feel about it in general: Very happy! It has a classic feel, you could wear anywhere, it's not too ...anything really, which is not to diminish how lovely it is at all, it's just not heavy, or overly musky, or headshoppy, or too sweet, it's not work or dinner inappropriate.Tome it's a beautiful floral from a distance with a snuggly vibe up close. Go out, have a sophisticated dinner, come home, get your pj's on and snuggle up with someone you love in fresh cotton sheets and fluffy blankets.

I've smelled this in the past, I thought, but I think I had it confused with Tavern of hell which I don't like. I like this!! It's like a pale green powder might smell, green, minty, and something else a bit like powder paint! I can't stop sniffing my arm. I should add that I'm pregnant so likely my taste is somewhat strange ATM.

Wow!! This is fab. The orris is amazing, but wait ... Rose is coming, rose is taking over. I know jasmine and orris are cowering somewhere but rose is expanding like Harry potter's aunt, but POP! Rose as suddenly gets pushed aside, jasmine is taking centre stage. This blend is weird! Noooooo, now it's lily. Or more like LILY!!!!! It's giving me a headache. Dammmit. Ok, now it has mellowed, and we're only five minutes in. What a morpher! I'd like to add this to body cream I think. It has a vintage feel.

2009 bottle. It's a dark oil, skin stainingly so. Given that, I expect more chocolate when I apply (a tiny dot) to near my inner elbow. There is chocolate there, a little and a teeny bit of tobacco and a lot of dark musk which gets louder and louder until it drowns everything else out. Think Bonnie Langford in Bugsy Malone. I like black musk, but this won't see a ton of wear from me as my bf recoiled, and it's so strong I would never, even using daily, finish a bottle. I don't hate it though! It's a bit like you took ivanushka and got her to take you to her father...a giant black stag. This is kinda how he'd smell.

I came back to my bottle of 2011 after nearly three years of it sitting unused, and it still barely smells of anything! I'm wondering if I'm olfactorily blind to everything in it. It's bizarre.

Close up, spicy pumpkin, throw is....leather??! It's unsettling and I do not like it!! Off to baby wipe it off, I cannot go to bed in this. Yikes. It's rare for me to fee ick about bpal, normally I avoid vetiver and I'm fine, I may not like something but few scents have actually unsettled me. Crimson Christmas did and I forget if there was another. Anyway, waffling...sorry, and yuk.

I just got this, my first thought upon smelling in the bottle was that it was a mistake. However, the tiny dab in my inner elbow right now says otherwise. It's very warm, not the sharp herbal of the bottle, the beeswax makes it cosy and the rosewood sits behind it giving it a hint of something pretty. It's giving me the impression of feel more than smell images if that makes sense. This is bumblebee fur! I'm glad I didn't rashly offer it up for trade!

I'd totally agree with no scent at all. I had an abusive midwife first time who kept applying Kenzo flower, it was awful and I cannot bear it to this day, over ten years later. My now ex ate a banana during that labour and it was two years before I could eat one again. It was the strongest smell in the world at that time. Aromatherapy if requested would be ok.

Love this! Thanks Puddin'! I'm having a hard time putting this into words. It smells...safe? Slightly creamy, slightly waxy, but not in the normal beeswax/headache way, maybe the creaminess is a rice pudding kind of creamy actually, I can't do it much more justice than this I'm afraid. Smooth, golden, comforting, addictive

This is my second review for this. It's taken some time but I can now smell this! It's got a more rosey feel to it now, rose and jasmine, but it's definitely a rose otto smell with that warm feel that is unique to it, and not a cold tea rose, and the jasmine comes out more now, but subtly. It has almost a honeysuckle smell too. I really like this now. Previously it just ended up having zero smell at all very quickly. It isn't exactly like UTHM, but more as if UTHM is night, and this is day. It'd be a nice go to bed scent I think.

Having been lucky enough to be gifted some of this by Cheshirecat in a swap, and at first sniff I'm thinking woooh...yeah, AL but with a little Faith, let's do sisde by side comparison with AL. Put on AL. Sniff proto...mmmmm. Sniff AL...mould WTF?? AL is now mould, mould on linen. Super STRONG linen, but still mouldy. UGH. I hate you proto, you ruined my Antique Lace, and I have more of that than I have of you! (whispers to proto...mmmmm I love you really...dammit) In case you have no idea what AL or this proto smell like, it smells like sugared violets, vanilla and a hint of lily. Maybe a smidge of cotton as time passes. AL smells like mould, well USUALLY smells like:vanilla/violet/lily/cotton/wonderful.

Soft suede, patchouli that is nothing like Occupy Wall St, beyond that I'm afraid this is a hopeless review. Rose amper that I am, I get nothing of rose.Zero. My main impression is of...horses? If horses made perfume, it'd smell like this. I hate leather btw in scents, it give me teh headachez extreemz, but apprently not here. What a strange phoenix you are...

I just pulled this out of my sales box, well, wow, my skin chemistry must have changed, this is lovely on me. I'm struggling with individual notes, it's creamy, violet, musk, vanilla, rose, but not a pink rose, or a red rose, or even an amping rose, this rose is held firmly in check by the other notes, mandarin is just there, but I destroy citrus, so the fact this is still detectable 4 hours in is amazing. It's reminding me of Under the harvest moon for some reason. I think I will be wearing this a lot.
-
Oh, I should have loved this so much, but alas it is reminiscent of Elizabeth Arden's Sunflowers (on my skin), a scent I cannot stand. It does not smell the same, but there is a similar note in it that my skin apparently amps to the exclusion of everything else in the perfume

I have a date to plan for, naturally my shoes are playing second fiddle to what perfume to wear. It's a first date, and one that has been a long time coming and very hard to organise given that we both have kids and live in different cities... Any suggestions? I guess I don't want to smell too foody, or even too fruity, and I love lavender but I worry that or jasmine will be a little risky on the old lady factor. I love Vixen currently but that could be a rather polarising scent I think. I don't want to smell too young either! I tried Nymphia-this kind of fit the too young category for me, as much as it was a cute scent. I have a ton of things to choose from, I'm leaning toward Dia, but could this be a bit haughty? I also thought of Black Pearl. Would wearing something christmas-y with pine possibly be a bit manly? I considered Knecht Ruprecht briefly then worried it's almond/pine combo was too weird for a first meeting.. I want irresistible but not slutty I guess what I'm saying is that I want to smell good, but not too...anything really. I know, I'm almost asking for a middle of the road bpal! Glittering Apple of the Stars is too 'little' for an evening scent, so something 'more' than this. HELP! I don't really want to go mainstream, plus my favourite one is Insolence and that's my 'don't even think about touching me' scent, and Boudoir goes skanky on me these days, and Stella Nude seems like a cop-out. edit to ask:what anyone thinks of Lantern Ghost of Oiwa as a first date scent? I do think the yo-sushi waiter guy sniffed me when I wore this.

Darkly musky, yet not in masculine talc way, this quickly brings to mind The Velvets and also Velvet Panther, this is jasmine but not an indolic jasmine. I can't distinguish much else, my nose is not at it's best tonight. I like this very much more than The Velvets, it's more feminine to me. A surprise hit. Edit to add: review number two, since I clearly have morphed into someone else since that review. It smells NOTHING like last time. It's almost fruity, there's a darkness but it's a 'bright' darkness, cloudless sky with lots of moon. Fruity throw, but jasmine-ish on the last part of the inhale, snuffled close to my arm. Ths is totally bizarre! What's happening to me!??

It's wet smelling, not damp or musty but wet, a tiny catch of peach as you breath in that hits you just as you exhale again. Almost like pears, real pears, not pear scent. That's my in bottle impression. I am sometimes struck by inexplicable impressions of people I used to know from a scent, this is a girl I used to know as a child, how strange. It's beautiful and almost sad, wisteria winds its way out, trailing on a base of the cleanest honey I have ever smelt, no BO tones here for me, this truly is mine of the phoenix I have smelt thus far. The label is beautiful too.
