Crikey! In the bottle I get strong dill pickles. On skin, very very strong, hints of orange, still with this dill pickle kind of scent, twisting more into geranium. It's very hard to describe, it's more vegetal than I expected for sure.It fades fast on me. I think this would actually be very nice on a man, or also a woman. It's in the same vein as Dior Homme Intense to me. Not the same, but in feeling. I may see if my brother would wear this.

First sniff, this is fizzy, like 7-up, which gives way to a rose reminiscent of the kind of fancy rosewater soaps people give at Christmas, underscored with a sweet grape, definitely a white grape. It's not what I was expecting really, but it could be my skin chemistry. I hoped for a carnation-apricot spectacular. It's a fast morpher though, vanilla is peeking through now, but I still mainly smell like expensive soap, I want my fizz back!

thanks everyone for your input but the date's off. Now if anyone had any recommendations to kill my dating curse that'd be fantastic!

I think young-smelling for me is the current trend of fruity trashy perfumes aimed at the 10-19 kind of market. That's not what I am aiming for!

So in an insane turnaround, having made Katharina carpet freshener today, I was thinking maybe a tiny dab of that?! The oil, not the carpet freshener. Thing is I am beginning to doubt my crazy hormonal nose! Is it too young smelling?!

I stink though... just kidding! I just sniffed Vixen and eurgh, nauseating vetiver ickiness- there's seriously something wrong with me this week...I think it may be the totally wrong time of the month to go on a date by Friday, sigh. Not sure I can trust my nose although Black Pearl is thus far not sickening me or smelling different. Beautiful pic btw.

Thank you ALL for your lovely replies I love this forum I'm wearing Black Pearl today(or rather slathering and sniffing myself in a glad I am in the house and not in public kinda way!), my bottle has now apparently aged to be just like the imp I loved! It's delicious. I will be testing Morocco tomorrow, the Lantern Ghost. So my final contenders are Black Pearl, Morocco, Lantern Ghost I think. edit to add snow white might have to be tested again too. So excited now, and I just found out there's a carousel in the city centre!! That could be so romantic in the dark! Just the antidote to the completely unromantic MRI scan I will be having right before the date.

I totally agree in principle, and thank you for your support! I am also very sensitive to smells I don't like on other people, I suppose I just don't want to make him uncomfortable. Mind you, people say I am exceptionally sensitive..so maybe you're right. I asked him what kind of smells he liked, he said there were perfumes he liked but had no idea what they were! Oh and to just wear my favourite. I don't have a favourite though (maybe Antique Lace but that drop's for hoarding lol), or I wouldn't have umpteenmiliion bottles. So damn what he likes, just help me pick? That's more empowered huh I was asked for a list...oh boy...here it is(no particular order-I'd be here all night!* on possibles considered thus far): Gaueko Death/young maiden Glukupikros The Pool of Tears (though this is way too CLEAN for a date methinks) Dia Tattered Lace Glittering Apple Black Pearl* Shadowy and Sublime White Choc/Sugared Violets Sonnet D'Automne Nymphia Two Loves Anactoria Nocturnal reverie Boo Quietude Summer Summoning KNecht ruprecht Lucretia Black Moon Faith Phantom Calliope Atlas Gladdener of all hearts Crypt Queen Lilith Victoria Black Lace-blargh this has turned to evil cigars, complete with ash Dorian Rose Pearls Diamonds Zarita Dog Days of Summer Snake Charmer The Chinese Dance Dixie Love Perfume Hod Res WILF Fox Fires on NYE The Lantern Ghost of Oiwa* Boomslang Midnight on the Midway Snake Oil Vixen Under the Harvest Moon*although no one I know likes this ON Darkness When Winter Nights Enlarge Montresor Countess Willie Cake Smash Attrocious Attic Antique Lace Green tree Viper MIdwinter's Eve Theodosius Sunbird Day of Skulls Snow White Chant D'Automne Illustrated Woman ? Succubus Hope Ivanushka tHE mADWOMAN Odd Portents CReature Feature Prospero mahana red tide morocco* belle epoque kurukulla ugh...my eyes are too tired to list ALL the imps. That's probably enough choice though, right?!

Heh! That would be fun! I'll be back with a list shortly! Good point re the testing too, you just never know eh, plus I'm kind of susceptible to some kind of hormonal nausea lately, so it might be good to check it doesn't make me feel ick either.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
cinnamonster replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
I have a little decant of vintage VdN, and I just tried some on to reply here. I bet there is something in the bpal catalog but I can't think off the top of my head which one. At first I was thinking The Harp of Cnoc I'Chosgair but I don't think that's quite right. That might be closer to Samsara with its vanilla and sandalwood. Vol de Nuit is a light, spicy, powdery floral with amber and galbanum which is kind of a greenish resin note. I bet someone has an amber Chaos Theory that smells like it. But I'm still feeling like there's something GC that might work. I just don't know the powdery florals very well. Edit: You know what.....after a while I realized, it is reminding me of Silk Road, except I think Silk Road has more spices. I know that's discontinued, sorry. I really appreciate you taking the time to sniff and reply! I never did try Silk Road, maybe I could find it though -
Thanks for the recc's everyone, unfortunately I have none of those! I'll look up Coxscomb (never heard of this one) and see if anything I have is similar perhaps.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

I know it was mentioned before, but that was back in 06, and there may be newer suggestions, so I wanted to ask, since I will probably never afford any, and have never smelled any, what smells similar to Vol De Nuit? -
This was not good on me. A slightly fruity, hint of minty MYRRH. I thought I liked myrrh but this was too much on me
-
The distillate of grief and loss. A clean, cathartic fragrance. I was kindly gifted a bit of this and it smells like...vintage Shalimar??! Also a little like Tauer Orange Star. I really like it.

I get a whole different deal from this I think. The initial scent, as in 2 seconds max I cannot place, but then it is totally kewra, stays the same til morning (I put this on for bed). I love it. I also put some on my littlest's pj's one eve as I suspected a tough night ahead and she just randomly says later, I feel peaceful. I think it works Kewra is used in the flavouring of Indian sweets if you have never heard of it, but have tasted those, they are what this oil smells of.

I knew I'd love this, I thought it'd be more floral due to rose's inclusion, and my skin's ability to single-note-rose anything usually. It's spicy but not foodie in my idea of foodie which is more of sweet cakey scents, this is darkly peppery, underscored with red ginger and caraway, with nary a hint of rose at all, or orchid, it says 'I'm naughty, don't you want to sniff me again and again', to my nose anyway
-
I'm finding this a hard one to describe, it's like, grey crushed velvet, vaguely sweet and to me, very powdery. Can I pick out notes...hmmm...yes pear, on a powdery hint of resin background. Gonna have to give this another go, decide if I want to keep it, I might do though. Interestingly (to me anyway) The Chameleons just came on - Second Skin, look it up if you don't know it...seems to fit the scent very well, but then I often find music for my perfumes! The pear is the strongest note to me if I sniff closely. I do like it.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Continuing the Fendi theme...anyone know anything that comes anywhere near Fendi Palazzo? The woody floral composition brings us scents of Mediterranean breeze, intoxicates us with sweetly fresh notes of mandarin and bergamot, and a spicy touch of pink pepper. The heart is seductive and luscious, very feminine. It opens with notes of orange blossom, sweet and intensive jasmine and two real seductresses – Turkish and Bulgarian rose. The base brings sophisticated woodsy notes of patchouli, Guaiac wood and warm sandal wood. On me it smelt nothing like roses btw. -

I know it's not perfect but how about... The Haunted Palace: The moment before the ruin, frozen. The scent of captured glory, of glowing pearls and rubies, of golden sunlit joy and regal grandeur: red rose, Tunisian amber, blood orange, toasted vanilla, heliotrope, gardenia and red musk. Layered with: Bengal:A sultry and unruly blend that emulates the ambient scent of the markets in ancient Bengal: skin musk with honey, peppers, clove, cinnamon bark and ginger. .purchase 5ml. Thank you! Bengal is on my "to try" list, and The Haunted Palace sounds so lovely. It seems like them might combine to create something similar, or at the least, something that smells wonderful. You're welcome! I'd be interested to know if it comes close, The Haunted Palace is beautiful, but sadly on me...just ROSE. -
It's a strong lily of the valley, not usually my thing, but it's not quite the brain drilling type, there's a soft almost rotting undertone to this. It's by no means unpleasant. I'll probably keep this for an occasional wear if I feel deathly-floral

'm not the op, but I don't think either of them are personally having smelled them all. ETA:I'm just retesting Gwyneth, and I kept thinking how it reminded me of something...and it's Narciso!

Hmmmmm, this has the same kind of smell as Black Pearl to me, same kind, not exactly the same... On me, it's very orris-y...reading the notes now I am surprised with the description of serpentine patchouli, that implied something dark to me but this has a very white feel about it. NOT the white feel screechy high florals have, but clean and white, like bone as the description says. Black musk on me is talc. There is, thankfully, no black musk here to my nose. I'm not sure I will wear it again, but I can't figure out why. Maybe it's because I have Black Pearl. Worth a try if you like Black Pearl, or Cytherea. Ooh, actually black musk is creeping out...aaaargh. That could be why I don't like it so much. It's making me feel a bit nauseous. Bah.

It's cherry and soft lavender with a baby powderiness, which suits me just fine as it's my four year old's bedtime scent of choice ( a dab on each pyjama sleeve). She liked it so much after getting through an imp, then the next brand new one accidentally getting sucked into the hoover and vanishing I got her a 5ml of her own. I can't imagine it as a daytime scent for an adult though now. It's sweet and fairly soporific to me.
