I Fell in Love with a Floating Brain
zankoku_zen replied to RaeiNarcissus's topic in Retail Exclusive Oils
GAH! On me, this totally smells like Monsterbait: Closet, only more strawberry. With Closet, I get a very 'strawberry' like scent and rich creamy cake with icing. This is strawberries and icing and cake. And while I get the tinge of strawberry lip gloss, it's still mighty tasty. Mmmm. Once my Closet is gone, now I know what to pick up! -
Have you been bad or good? Santa has sharpened his candy canes, and he's got his eye on you! Gore-splattered snow, chimney smoke, and bloody, broken peppermint sweets. I think the 'smoke' that has the industrial vibe. It was a minty, sort of smokey blend that now smells like toilet cleaner on me. BOOOOOO.

Oh man, I got sweet coal dustyness and cedar in the background. I'm not entirely sure what to make of it. It's warm, it's definitely Bah! Humbug! and very Christmassy in that sense... but I'm not sure I like it. ... I'll have to test again!

Okay so this morphed from a salty ozone floral to something that old ladies wear. Something sweet and powdery and lilac... and something that smells like old ladies. ... Yeah... ... No.

This one is indeed bitter coffee with a shot of cocoa... and for me I think the whisky makes this blend a little buttery. It's too bitter for me, but I imagine a nice sweet vanilla would do wonders for this blend! *plot plot*

This one was lighter than I expected - I got the myrrh and herbs. However, on the drydown, it smells like herby plastic. Pass.
-
It's dirty pencil shavings and rose cologne. Sad.
-
This one is a pretty, minty violet floral. I get a hint of roses in the background and a sandalwood base. As it dries, the florals burn off and I get more of the sandalwood base. Pass.
-
This one is a strong woodsy patchouli blend --- with a hint of... fig? It's a smoky kind of blend, with a strong wood and patchouli base (it doesn't smell dirty... just like patchouli). The hint of fig lends it a bit of sweetness. For the offspring of angels and humans, it's very apropos.

Visiting the Temple of Auspicious Fortune Alone on the Winter Solstice
zankoku_zen replied to femmefatale's topic in Yules
Temple incense, rain, and dust. I was caught off guard by the effervescence of this scent on wet - which did have ginger and grapefruit in it. But as it dries, it's more of the salty air and water droplets everyone talks about. Unfortunately, it also turns just a smidge soapy. Damn, I really did like the ginger/grapefruit soda thing it had early on. -
Incense. And this has patchouli in it... because it smells like dirty incense. Like the burnt out ashes of incense. Pass.

This one surprised me. It was a light, white floral with fruity overtones. I definitely got the lavender and the geranium - but was surprised at how 'non-dark' this blend was on me. Very pretty, very youthful. I think it was the fruity overtones.

This one was leather and citrus. Most of the time leather is a very dominant note on me, and it is in this blend, but it is definitely tempered by the other notes --- so the leather is softer, more wearable. Kinda like suede leather. It's got a slight fruity, slight woodsy overtone to it as it dries. For the quintessential Butch guy that Quincey Morris is supposed to be, he's surprisingly cuddly.

Hmmm... this one is a warm, almost dusty blend. I'm not a huge fan of frankincense... and I am happy to report that the pepper behaves itself (might be the aging). The pepper and frankincense are really dominant on my skin. It kinda smells like spicy dragon's blood. Ah well.

I really enjoy this blend - it's a white floral, perhaps there is a touch of freesia to it, and I agree with the honey, but it's the sweet, hummingbird type. Not cloying or sexual. Just sweet. This entire blend is a nice white floral, slightly juicy, very fragrant, very innocent. I think this would be very appropriate for a young girl. And I'll definitely get an imp or maybe even a bottle of this. I quite enjoy it.
-
Okey, this blend is totally not me. The vetiver doesn't go to smoky bacon, it's just smoke and dirt. It smells kinda like vulcanized rubber. BAD.
-
This one is like a citrusy amber --- golden, citrus light. Warm amber. I get a teeny hint of chamomile in it, which adds a pleasant, cat rubbing sort of sleepiness to it. This is a very pleasant amber. Mmmm.
-
This one is a gentle floral, with alot of throw. I get white, breezy sort of florals with a hint of sweetness. Kinda tropical, but kinda arid as well. It's got a hint of honey and a hint of roses. Pretty.
-
I definitely get the almond and the rum over a cookie base. Sugar Cookie was too buttery and sugary for me. And on wet, this smells like Sugar Cookie + almonds. As it dries, the almonds and rum become more predominant, making this less sweet and buttery. I kinda like it, but it definitely makes me hungry!
-
Oddly enough, this is a woodsy/watery blend on me. I get the fig, the bamboo and the chamomile. It's a gentle, soft blend and it makes me think of bamboo and ponds.... It's a very fresh scent.
-
Hmmm. I really get the red musk in the blend, along with the pepper and the sasparilla, which gives it a 'root beer' sort of tone in my mind. It's a pepper spicy musk with a hint of sweet florals. Meh.

Goblin of Yuletide Present Atmosphere Spray
zankoku_zen replied to VioletChaos's topic in Atmosphere
I get alot of orange from this --- it smells like it says --- an orange studded with cloves. I love the citrus and spice mixture. I really wanted this one because of the citrus, all of my favorite atmosphere sprays are fall inclined (L'Autunno, Samhain, Gooey Pillowcase) and I get just a hint of orange marmalade from Down the Rabbit Hole... so I'm very pleased with the big citrus kick this has. My husband likes the smell of cloves. It apparently makes him think of cookies. Which is never a bad thing. -
Have you tried Detox? That one has the strongest LIME I've ever tried. And I've tried alot!

This one is definitely a sandalwood bath oil, which is a welcome change from the floral and/or foodie scents from most BPTP bath oils. However, I think I'm not a fan of osmanthus because there is a shrill, sharp floral overtone to this blend that I don't enjoy. However, if you want a woodsy/sandalwood blend, give this a whirl. At least you won't smell like flowers!

I find the pomegranate to be the biggest element and to a certain extent, it's biggest detractor. It is very much pomegranate and with a hint of frozen flowers, but it's so pom and so in your face, I find it a little off putting. As for moisturizing, great moisturization and about the same throw for most of the BPTP bath oils.
