First whiff of Lawn Gnome is HEAVY sugar with a cherry smell to is (the red currant?). I don't like foodie smells (I know, I'm a minority) so I am REALLY unsure about this. Wet on skin, the molasses is calming a little, but nothing is coming to the forefront. It's a wee bit more gardeny, like the moss might be poking its head out. All in all, it smells like I rubbed molasses on my body then rolled around my garden. Four hours later it is something soft and subtle, but the molasses is gone and I think so is the patchouli (I can't sepll) any way, it's nice now, but it took a long time to get here. I agree, it smells like a garden gnome, dirt and candy. Feet in the ground, but sweet and fun. It's just not my type of scent. I L.O.V.E. Lawn Gnomes. I have one named Saul that guards my home, and another small one named Bennie who guards the garden. I got this for my Mother and her friends because of a story she wrote for them. I am going to be making them into sprays. I'll see if there is much of a difference in a spray form. Maybe layering it with another scent, Snake Oil? Dorian? Antique Lace? may make it more amazing for me. Adding the pic of the sprays I made for Mom and her friends. They turned out cute and the scent is still the same for me. So not one for me.

It is a juciy floral both in the bottle and on my skin. I love it. The Madarin is soft and the Cherry Blossom is also soft and faint. My only complaint is that is has NO lasting power. 10 mins and it is gone. I find myself reaplying like a mad woman, which is bad, as I have gone through a lot of my first bottle. I turned it into a spray that gives it an extra five mins on me, but is doesn't want to last. It's almost like a pleasant dream on a summer afternoon, and then just fades into the ether. It's gorgeous and a floral for those I think are nervous about florals.

Love the Hackess spread sheet! But I was looking for more of a database. Anybody running access or another type of database?

I am really liking Pele for the floral notw, a lot! Anything else similar to that? -
It was not what I had expected when I read the description. I was really thinking something old lady like or really heavy and sweet. But wearing it is a different world. I get more compliments wearing Antique Lace then any other scent. I had a 16 year boy who came into my work that kept asking to smell my arm because he liked it so much! It is vanilla and musky. To me, it is very feminine while still being extreamly sexy. It is not overwhelming, it is there, but in a support capacity. This is a demure sexiness. Not the low-cut black dress, this is the eyes over your glasses across the room at HIM (or her), confident but not egotistical, sexy not slutty. This is your cheering section. This is your supporting actress. This is your best outfit, with your best makeup, your best hair and your best shoes. This is the soundtrack to your best day. I went through a bottle in 4 days and it will most likely be in my top 5 forever. It has quickly become my signature scent. So much so that I have inadvertantly scented the mouse and keyboard pads at the front desk I work at. This is to me what Manolos are to Carrie Bradshaw. And if I layer, I use this as a base. It should be in EVERY BPAL stash. 'nuff said. 10 out of 10

Okay, so I am learning to layer scents. it is hard. I feel like Carrie on Sex and the City looking at my bottles "I love you all equally, but I really REALLY love you (insert latest sniffs name)" so it is hard for me to layer. But I have decided that Antique lace will serve as the base to my Charlestonesque scent. But I am looking for a floral. Pele is on the right corse, but it is lacking something.... Here is what I have ruled out: Queen Mab Shadow Witch Orchid Pele (on the fence about) MonsterBait Bigger Critters (smelled like popcorn on me) Hell's Belle House of Night Black Dahlia La Belle au Bois Dormant New Orleans Peitho Jasmine Cottage The Isle of Demons (I'm scared of...) So...any other florals to suggest? -
I get a nutty smell off this in the bottle and on me. Almost to a buttery popcorn smell. I don't like it. I think it is a combo between the Vanilla and the Jasmine that makes that particular smell. I really really want to like this sniff, it has a lot of things I am a fan of! A few mins later that nutty/buttery popcorn flavor has diminished and it is calming into something nicer.

I suppose it doesn't have to be Gardenia. It just seems so southen to me. Magnolia, Jasmine, Tea Olive, Lavendar and Honeysuckle would be good too. -

Oooh.. I am waiting in anticipation of getting my big bottle of Antique lace! I've layered with Lady Lillith. The Lady has disapeared. Are there any tricks for layering? -

I haddn't thought about Magnolia being a tougher sniff to get. I never really thought about layering (duh) that may solve the what I am looking for thing short of paying to have a unique scent made. I think why I'm really liking Antique lace is because I get Light Musk from it and that reminds me of my Mom. A lot of florals have (and I love florals, please rememeber) but a great but almost empty feel to them. Like they are there, then gone. The musks sstick, they are commited. The smell I'm looking for has a lot of those floral, but lazy in leaving scent. I thinking using Antique Lace as a base then throwing a floral ontop may solve that idea. MonsterBait Bigger Critters sounds really great, I'll keep my eyes open for it. For now I'll play with what little I have and see if something sparks. I appreicate your help, ivyandpeony, though my fiancee may hate you for giving me more ideas. What of Jasmine Cottage? I have a bottle of that on the way. Any thoughts? -

I'm digging Antique Lace. It is along the lines of what I am looking for, but with a little Magnolia, or Gardenia...I'm not sure. Is there something like Antique Lace with a little bit of a twist? -
In the Bottle: Floral and very sweet. Nearly too sweet for me. I think it is the plumeria on crack. Or the Lily of the Valley. There is a bit of a soapy smell in the background. Reminds me of my Great-Grandmother Ruth. On me, Wet: Tea Rose steps up and takes a bow, the plumeria is in the background clapping for the tea rose. Dry: Heavy on the tea rose and getting soapy. I think it is the lily of the valley that may be making that to happen. After a couple hours, the plumeria is very noticeable, but with a hint of something else (orris?) helping it and enhancing it. It is very mellow now. Feelings: Not bad, a little too much for me. It was super sweet all through. Rating: 3.5 1-5 1 being "Never again" 5 being "I am buying in bulk!"

In the Bottle: S W E E T! Stargazers are here, the Turkish Rose, Jasmine, Violets and a hint of Honeysuckle. I can TASTE it. Makes my teeth itch. On me, Wet: B O L D !!!!! Really sweet, very feminine, but almost sickenly sweet. I am immediately thinking of Grandma's gag-me-sweet perfume, but it's not quite there. Really floral. The Stargazers’ and jasmine are having a field day. It's as if she is aggressively trying to remind you she is a woman. A little scary, but I'm still interested. Dry: The floral is getting sleepy now. Honeysuckle is emerging, emphasized with Amber. Vanilla is in support but is really shy, very subdued. Very enchanting. You are seeing past her beard and are now seeing her for the first time. The person she is. Lady-like with still an edge, like she is NOT part of the pack and is her own woman. Feelings: LOVE this and am so glad I found it on ebay (I am a late comer to a lot of the Limited Editions)! A great spring scent, that I can see working well into the summer. It is floral and warm all over, especially when she calms down. I can't stop smelling myself! Rating: 4.5 1-5 1 being "Never again" 5 being "I am buying in bulk!"

In the Bottle: The Amber is apparent and something else I can identify. I'm not sure what Kush smells like. But this other scent both softens the amber and makes it very apparent. I think it is the Sandalwood. On me, Wet: The Amber is a bit softer, almost like it is laying in a bed of baby powder. The Patchouli is also starting to show up, but you really have to be looking for it. On me, Dry: Baby powder. Feelings: Over all I am not that thrilled with this scent. Rating: 2 1-5 1 being "Never again" 5 being "I am buying in bulk!"

Thanks for that! I'll look into it. And I totally dig Lavender. My second wedding (yes, this is lucky no. 3) I carried a bunch of lavender. Instead of rice, they threw lavender heads. Made the whole backyard smell like lavender for three months! I am really REALLY into Tea Olive. I just discovered it down in Charleston whilst getting my Tour Guide license. I knew it would do fantastic things for a scent, but it wasn't till here that I found it in use. Hoorah! -

I was introduced to BPAL by a co-worker and I looked at the website and was totally overwhelmed. After I purchased two scents (Blood Amber and Torture Queen) I found the boards, so I look to you, dear reader to help. This is what I would like: Something that smells like Gone with the Wind. The idea of Antebellum South Carolina. Gardenias, Tea Olive, Magnolias, Star Gazer Lilies. Something languid and slower, heavier and sweet. Something that says floral and eternal youth and spring in the south. I fell in love with a perfume by MAC (the makeup peeps) called MV1. The problem is it has a 15 min lasting scent. The description is as follows: Light, clean, fresh and girly. A frolicky fusion of bergamot, lilies, white jasmine, vanilla, milk cream musk and sandalwood create a flirty, feminine green fragrance. I really like it, but want a little more lasting power and omf. Any suggestions?
