    Coffee notes?

I know a lot of people are saying that O the Joy of My Spirit is hazelnuts, but I picked up coffee from this blend. Also, Schere, Stein, Papier! is coffee that is a bit drunk. Secrets, too, but I can't vouch for that myself. Personally, if I want just straight black coffee, I like the Guatemalan Volcanic Coffee Bean.
  2. I dont have much to say about this photo except it was Liliths first time in Chicago, her first time to see it snow and her first time catching snowflakes. I love her dearly. Coconut snow, wolly lavender, and the rosy glow of my love for her. The label says Snowflakes in Chicago. Last minute change so people wouldn't eat it? Slushy snow note we are all familiar with. And there's something clean and warm, which works for the woolly lavender. I can smell the coconut if I think about it hard enough. Its not overpowering at all. I think its a sweet, minty snow with warmish lavender in the background.

    Kapitelplatz Chess Match

So, I unexpectedly have a weird memory association with this. This reminds me of all of the smells when my grandmother would get ready for church on Sunday mornings. It's like a mix of her perfume, the smell of her cosmetics, hairspray, fresh shower, and clean-clothes smell. Mixed with the wood paneling inside her house? Super unexpected, yet surprisingly lovely. On me, this is definitely feminine. I would recommend it for Snake Oil lovers, but only if you like wood, as well.

Aunt Rosie's All-Purpose Cephalopod Bath Oil

The coconut isn’t terribly strong for me. I think the tea and ginger stand out the most. The rice milk gives it a creamy vibe. And it’s not overpowering. I’d say it’s a fruity floral tea.

    Snow Moon 2019

Fruity and slushy. I was hoping for something similar to Snow. Glass. Apples, but this is not that. The yuzu is pretty strong and constant. That, mixed with the white tea remind me of the fancy department store perfumes. When I get in closer for a whiff, the apple and the musk make it more complex and bearable. I can't place which snow note this is, but it's not the minty gum one. I'm going to guess it's more of a green, herbaceous one. I think I end up catching some pine trees, but it morphs into something else. Overall, I think this is really well blended. But it's fairly perfumey for me, and I think I don't like yuzu that much.

    Atsui-Mono

How do I even follow up after that amazing review? This is so pretty and creamy. It starts out smelling like fancy soap, I guess that's the tea and fig. To me, fig doesn't have a definitive smell. Just generically sweet. It ends up smelling like a fancy version of a cream coconut. And the honey isn't overpowering or amping on me, which is a plus. It's really nice, I recommend it!

    National Emergy (sic)

This smells pretty amazing in the bottle. It smells really nice after it's on, but that's about it. Very tropical, like ginger flower and a hint of orange. I can see the link to suntan oil, but this smells too much on the citrus side for me to consider that. Wet, it's great. But it only seemed to last an hour or two, then became this bland, light ginger smell on my hand. I can see amping this up a bit by mixing it with some peppercorn and patchouli that sticks around. Maybe it just doesn't play well with my chemistry. I can also see the link to Chimes Orange ginger candy. It's just not "loud" enough for me. I feel like it's way too subtle.

    Smoke and Lace

I bought this because my husband tried it on at a Meet n' Sniff, and it worked on him. It was nicely balanced between leather and smoke, with the vanilla sweetening it up for him. I tried it on myself. Immediately, the cognac amps on me, and smells like putridness. I tried to let it dry down, and see if it would change. I got annoyed with it, and washed it. It's got amazing staying power. The leather really stuck around, and had high sillage. It was nice once I washed it. Then the leather and light smoke was there for a long while.

    The Temptation of St. Nick

This works really well on my husband. He's also a fan of The Feast for the Greatly Revered; so this is like a sweeter, clovey, less boozy version of that. I wouldn't say it's a dupe, but if you are a fan of the one, you might like this, as well.

    Cheshire Cat

I didn't remember this had grapefruit until I came back here. This ended up being too perfumey floral on me. I can smell the chamomile, the lavender is there in spirit, but I think I'm amping the delphinium because it's just too floral sweet on me.

    Yggdrasil

It's very dry wood with a touch of a medicinal background. After being on a few hours, this reminds me of walking into my uncle's woodshop in the middle of summer. All the sawdust in the air, being heated up by the afternoon sun, with the slight sweet BO from a sweaty uncle.

    Venus Obsequens

Pink apple and blackcurrant with honey and cardamom. I don't reach for this much, so I keep forgetting it's apple. I'd say it's more green apple on me, but the blackcurrant bringing a bit of "red" to it. I really just smell apple, honestly. If you didn't tell any of the notes, I would just assume straight apple. I don't seem to be amping the honey, so I'm happy about that.
  13. Any recommendations for things that smell like wicker? I'm sure it's got another name? Seagrass? Searching for "rattan" and "wicker" don't give me much information. If anyone knows what that clean wood smell is that you get in the basket section of Pier 1, I'd appreciate it.

    Krampus Lace

I was gifted a partial decant by the lovely VetchVesper. This seems to be the only Lace that works on me. I feel like it's a sweeter version of a tobacco blend that I already have, but I can't think of it. The leather and pepper was more apparent when I first applied it. As the day has worn on, the vanilla and honey have stuck around the longest, which translates to Antique Lace to my nose, with a hint of tobacco hanging around in the back.

    Cherophobia

I initially get sweet carnations, that is backed up by generic ginger. I think I have a carpet powder that is "tropical" that smells similar. This is a light smell that reminds of spring. It's not overpowering or very complex. The orange isn't too strong to my nose, but it's still got an overall tropical vibe to it.

    All Hallows Chaos: Dead Leaves

I have bottle #26. In the bottle, I immediately smell green and herbaceous, something bitter. During drydown, it starts to mellow, but a floral note starts to make an appearance. I think there might be some lillies in here. Maybe a hint of rose, but still something bitter and green. The sweetness of the dead leaves hangs out in the background, but it's not enough to play off the floral bitterness.

    Western Bonneted Bat

Butterscotch and French Tobacco. Absolutely divine. 2 things you wouldn't expect to work well together, but are absolutely perfect.

Snake Oil Lemon Bomb White Tea Fuck Up

I forgot that this was a LSSB variant. I think the white tea covers up enough of the lemon sugar that it's easy to see these 2 as entirely different. Citrusy Snake Oil is an accurate description, but the tea on my skin amps more than the citrus, so it's not as sweet as I'd expect. It's pretty and light, but interesting enough for me to hang onto.
  19. Every leaf tells a story. Let me start off my saying that I'm not a big "dead leaves" fan. But that's merely due to ignorance, I haven't smelled enough of them to really know if it's something I would like. But apricot and tobacco sounded awesome. First, in the bottle, it smells like some fruit that is overripe, beginning to rot. Not pleasant. First try on the back of my hand: On the skin, it retains that overripe smell, and slowly mellows during the drydown. Once dry, it's much different. Lightly feminine, lightly sweet, lightly fruity. The first thing that comes to mind is apricot gum. I don't know of any apricot gum, so it's a weird association. Maybe a bit like the smell when you initially walk into a Pier 1 imports store. Like vaguely woody and sweet. To my nose, I'm not getting any tobacco, but if I think hard enough, I can imagine tobacco leaves. I think my skin is sucking up the apricot, I'm beginning to only smell a salty musk, which I assume is the ambergris. It eventually settles into a clean, oceanic skin musk. Second try in crook of arm: I remember someone saying that if you don't like something, try a "dry" and "wet" spot. Elbow is going to be warmer, so trying again. Still starts out overripe. I think the apricot is a bit louder this time, with the subtle ambergris in the background. This kinda smells like a cocktail you might get in a fancy restaurant. Still not picking up any tobacco. The fruit is hanging on longer, and everything is settling into a sweeter skin musk. Off to sell!

Dead Leaves, Black Tea, and Tobacco Leaf

This immediately smells perfumey to me. So much so that I've been hesitant to try it out. During drydown, the perfumey-ness starts to calm down, but acrid sweetness makes me expect to not like this. It takes about 10 mins for it to completely go away, then I can smell the dry, crackley leaves. The sweet tobacco starts to make an appearance, or maybe that's the tea? Yeah, it's more tea. Like a mix between Earl Grey and black tea. So a mix of dry leaves and dry tea leaves with a hint of sweetness at this point. Eventually the tobacco warms up, and brings an earthiness to the pile of leaves we've got swirling around here. However, the sweetness ends up feeling like a masculine version of a cologne. It could be unisex, but my chemistry doesn't make this enjoyable for me.

    PL176

I've had this for a while. I'm surprised I forgot to review this. I think I read other reviews, and kept hoping I would try it and like it. Yes, definitely orange. I'm a huge orange lover. I grew up in Southern California, eating oranges straight from the orange groves. I have high expectations. On my skin, this ends up smelling like oranges soaking in water and an older man's cologne that's sweet. Overall, it's kinda gross to me. I would attribute this on the masculine side, but I know most people would disagree with me. It might just be a note that my chemistry is turning it into something masculine.
  22. I'm not very familiar with all of the different woods/trees, but I figured I'd give it a shot. If anyone would know, it would be you guys. Has anyone smelled/tried the seasonal Mrs. Meyer's Iowa Pine scent? I love it! I snagged more bottles since they are on sale. It's the perfect pine scent to me. I'm wondering if there's anything similar. I'll take a look at the previous suggestions, too. ETA: looking closer at their verbiage, it's also got a hint of clove and cedar.

    Bourbon-Soaked Apples Hair Gloss

I love bourbon and apples, so I knew I would have to try this. It doesn't seem to last very long on me, though. My scalp must suck it up, I couldn't smell anything after an hour. It's not nearly as sweet as I was expecting, nor as appley. However, I did grab another bottle, it's a must-have for apple lovers. I feel like it's got more of a dry bourbon-soaked wood note, so, like oak mixed up with some apple bread or oatmeal. I'll have to keep working on the description for this. It's awesome, but hard to describe. ETA: Trying this again, I figured out that it reminds me of generic autumn/apple candle smell. It's something I would expect to smell walking into Hallmark in October or November. Not to say it's bad, but it smells more generic than boozy to me.

    Ginger Cardamom Hair Gloss

I was expecting more of gingerbread, but the above poster is right. It's closer to ginger beer with a hint of cardamom, but no fizzy or fermented notes. It's nice in it's simplicity, but doesn't seem to stick around for very long. I can see this being worn year round.
