Newbie Guide to BPAL and BPAL.org (add your tips)
Jamesthesaint replied to mgcady's topic in BPAL FAQs
I don't see any kind of guide about what is considered normal or standard for decants across the board. This might be a silly question but, as far as decanting hair glosses, how are people doing that? I saw someone reference a 1oz bottle with a spray cap. Is that the standard? I have quite a few that I don't use (they just don't work for me,) and I'd like to make sure someone is getting use out of them. I think a guide to decanting in general might be useful. -
Ginger Cake With Quince And Orange Zest
Jamesthesaint replied to Silvertree's topic in Gifts with Donation or Purchase
I was not expecting to be in love with this, because orange and citrus are not typically in my wheelhouse. But I was so, so wrong. The trio of pies from this last year, 2022, are just amazing and the work so well together. I've been layering the three pretty consistently with wonderful results. In the bottle, ginger but not sharp. I could smell the citrus, but it was tame, I guess maybe that's the quince? Wet, kind of confused but 'hey, happy to be here,' bakery smell. Dry, just a small bite from the citrus and ginger but it's warm and comforting. -
Caramelized Pecan Rum Cake
Jamesthesaint replied to Silvertree's topic in Gifts with Donation or Purchase
My skin normally doesn't do well with any drop of a boozy scent, but it soaks this one up. I'll probably run out of this by summer. I have it in my coat pocket and just dab it on when I need a sweet pick me up. In the bottle, the rum comes forward first. Wet, there's a little hint of something fruity in there, I almost think it might be quince, but maybe it's just from the ginger cake? Dry, very mellow sugary sweet. A warm caramel and pecan. 😋 -
Blueberry Banana Cream Pie
Jamesthesaint replied to Silvertree's topic in Gifts with Donation or Purchase
All three of the pies from this past black friday, (2022) have been in heavy rotation for me. I'll start with one and layer the others throughout the day. I smell like a dreamy bakery, it's lovely. In the bottle, graham cracker crust, realistic banana, tiniest little tinge of tart from the blueberry. On the skin wet, warms up fast, not a fruity smell in my opinion, but like a cooked fruit, way different. Dry, doesn't have much of a throw, but I can feel the warm baked flavor. I smell delicious.- 8 replies

So I think some gave this a description of “fleshy chocolate,” and I just latched onto it. I freaking love it though. This is super sexy and sensual on me, the direction I assume it’s meant to go in. The oil is definitely lighter than what I’ve tried before, my other bottle being scherezade in a pumpkin patch (also wonderful). I practically doused my wet hair in this and it was only pleasantly smooth, not super slick. The fragrance didn’t have very much throw so I had to tell my husband to just stick his face in my hair to smell it, but it did last for quite a while. It is difficult to fully describe the scent because I’m really stuck on fleshy chocolate. In my case, I would absolutely recommend.

I’m kind of surprised at how many people read *only* butter, butter, and more butter in this one. This is so complex to my nose and I’m having a real field day with it. In the bottle: Knocked me on my ass with just dairy smell. I’d say buttermilk but almost sour, made me think, oh that’s probably goat’s milk. Wet on the skin: Huge transformation. My skin chemistry is so weird, this happens to me constantly. Instantly, the sour smell goes full on sweet and I’m getting nothing but foody goodness. This is whipped cream on pancakes. This is a promotional pancake special from ihop with an ungodly amount of syrupy strawberries and cheesecake filling and I don’t know mini churros on top? Dear lord, my stomach is going to explode. Drying down: Ok I don’t have to eat it all at once, maybe I’ll even take a to-go container. (It’ll never taste the same if I heat it back up in the microwave, why am I lying to myself.) This is fine just enjoy the fruity creamy butter goodness. This is just the first hour, I’ll edit by the end of the end.

I actually...ordered this by accident. Not realizing it was a hair gloss. I’m absolutely in love with it though. It’s very rich and spicy but doesn’t seem to last too long. I really want the smell the linger *all day.*

This is soooo masculine on me. It just screams high quality cologne. I’m trying to pick out the different scents in here since there’s no description. In the bottle I was excited by the mossy green. Surprisingly fresh for dead leaves. On my skin it’s really intense. There’s a smell I associate with water floating around in here, probably patchouli too. It still smells green, but it’s really subsided into the background. There’s a little funk that probably the mushroom note but I can’t tell what it is. It is super complex. Not the best fragrance on me, but it’s really interesting.

Just got this in the mail last week. In the bottle: creamy, creamy butter. Sweet, just what I was hoping for. On my skin: where the heck did these flowers come from? I must be crazy. How does this smell like a completely different perfume on me than in the bottle? The throw is strong. It’s about 45 minutes in and the floral is still intense. Waiting to see if it’ll mellow later. Edit: it’s been about two hours. The throw is pretty weak but that flowery smell has almost disappeared now. I get the honey fragrance and it’s very resinous. Not overwhelmingly sweet. I’m interested to see how this will age. I end result is really nice on my skin so I’m definitely going to hang on to it.
