when first sprayed on the hair i immediately get something woody along with the camellia. it doesn't really read as tobacco but maybe that's what it is? tobacco normally smells different to me. the honey just sort of blends the other notes together, but the camellia is definitely the most prominent note.

tea is definitely the strongest note when first applied, then out comes the grapefruit which continues to bloom, along with a nice little zing from the ginger. i don't seem to get the other notes really, maybe a hint of lime? this is just a really light and refreshing scent. seems like it'd be perfect for spring or summer.

another frimp from the lab! yep this starts off very stony smelling. something in this almost seems minty, but dryyyy. this scent is so dry, as iron and stone is wont to be i suppose. the hops and leather come out later. wow, is this strong and potent on me. and so dry. it gives me a bit of a headache.

got a frimp from the lab! right off i smell the brandy-soaked raisin. looks like this will be quite foody of course. i'm not usually a foody person but love trying new scents no matter what. i think i get hints of the mince pie!! how odd but it's there, along with holly. it seems like a good holiday scent. it ends up fairly bready and raisiny. it's a very comforting scent, though not something i would really wear because it's too foody but glad i got to give it a try anyway.

i get the sugared violet blossom and white sandalwood first. it's a woody yet sweet violet. something in this has that carmelized scent, at least at the beginning. it's very springy and sweet. the woods and orris keep it from being too sweet, but it is pretty strong and floral all the same. eventually it calms down more and becomes a beautiful candied violet that luckily isn't too sweet.

ooh this opens up so prettily. i get a buttery bourbon vanilla and tea blossom. the tea is just gorgeous. the tea gets stronger after being on the skin a couple minutes and i believe i get some lotus in the background. some oak and amber come through after awhile grounding things a bit, but primarily this is vanilla and tea on me, and the vanilla is not extremely foody but not extremely dry either. it's right in the middle but is one of the more "buttery" vanillas, i'd say.

right off i get something kind of almost animalic and musty. i think it's oudh. it smells like opening a wooden box that's been shut up for years. something smells almost slightly aquatic here. dunno what that could be, maybe the benzoin? it gets sweet and as others have noted, kinda stinky, for lack of a better word. this is some earthy oudh! i love all these notes though, so i'm hoping for the best in the drydown, though i probably would not make it through this stage for long. it turns into an ozoney-aquatic perfume with hints of oudh. i'm getting absolutely no vanilla or tobacco. just disappointed because this is quite different than i thought it would be!

right off i get tons of cedar and something kind of spicy from the rum. i must say, i am not always enamored by how strong cedar can get on me and of course it is dominating this scent! after a few minutes, the rum leather comes to the forefront and it's much better. the tobacco and honey sandalwood sweeten it up a bit and it gets less cedar-y over time. this is very nice, like a spicy leather-tobacco. it reads traditionally masculine to me but it's not overpowering. the sandalwood gets stronger with time as well, adding more woodiness to the scent. a spicy leather-sandalwood. i really want to smell this on my boyfriend, to be honest.

Fresh and Blooming as a Rose
theseagrows replied to TheIceMaiden's topic in Black Phoenix Trading Post
a creamy lush rose! i like it a lot at first. the rose in this is a nice one. however, i think the snowflakes aren't loving my skin. i saw references to snow white and that must be why, because i recall snow white not working so great for me. the vanilla/snow in this is just a bit too foody for my personal tastes. though i love a creamy rose and this is a nice scent, there are others that work better with my skin chemistry. -
this is one of those soft, sweet comforting scents to me. it starts off with fig, ylang ylang and vanilla. the lotus and incense strengthen with time adding more depth and rounding out the scent. this is so pretty! my skin continues to amp the lotus and fig which gets a bit sweet but eventually calms back down. i don't seem to get much of the fir or khus or any earthiness here, it must be subtle. overall it's a soft floral-fig scent. so pretty. perfect for winter or spring.
-
ooh this is very springy! I definitely get strong hyacinth and then the other florals come through moments later. I get some odd slightly medicinal honey too. this one isn't really working for me, the honey combined with the asphodel is turning kind of sickly sweet unfortunately.

hmm this is interesting. it starts off with tuberose, vanilla and the tobacco which is very smoky in this. it's essentially smoky tuberose right now. what an odd but intriguing combination! after a few minutes im getting something a bit sweet, maybe plum? it smells floral but a bit candyish. then the tobacco comes through, adding an interesting smokiness to the creamy vanilla-florals. I like this one a lot, as I'm always intrigued by tuberose scents, and the combined smokiness in this is unique (at least in my experience!) after about half an hour it gets gorgeous in an entirely different way-it's a sexy vanilla tobacco with just s bit of tuberose. this might be bottle-worthy!

this starts off as a woody-lavender scent on me. I think I'm getting a hint of patchouli and fir, but no carnation. it smells like branches and lavender, like lavender growing in a breezy forest. the patchouli becomes more apparent next, so now it's a lavender-patchouli mostly. there is an iciness here too. this smells a bit medicinal on me. I really wish I got more carnation! after being on my skin longer it becomes a very woody patchouli with hints of lavender.

oh this is lovely. first off, I get rose and the mildly animalic scent of fur. a little snow comes through right after. the rose continues to bloom, getting stronger. the snow seems to add a slight sweetness. as it dries down, the fur gets more subtle and it becomes a snowy rose with a slight sweetness. so soft and pretty!

got a lovely frimp of this today! at first spray i get the cedar-it's earthy and figgy, quite nice. it leans more towards traditionally masculine scents and it adds a nice air to the room. it makes me think of an old library in an old house filled with books and a roaring fire. it's winter when i'm trying this and i think it's perfect for the season.

i smell amber, ambergris and something kind of like chocolate/cocoa-y. not sure what that is, but it's nice. it's not super sweet or anything, but does add a hint of sweetness. i don't know which note that is though. it gets sweeter but less cocoa-y over time. i like this note, i just wish i knew what it was. maybe the balsam, because i'm not sure. anyway on me this is a soft, warm amberish sweet cacao-scent and it's really pretty, soft and comforting.

got this as a frimp, yay! i have no idea what's in this, honestly. i get a sweet candy scent like a sugary soft bubblegum. not in your face bubblegum by any means. this is subtle. i don't normally like foody sweet bubblegummy scents but this is very soft and not too sweet and it makes me happy.
-
starts off with a clear golden amber, not a heavy or powdery one. a few minutes later i get the lemon, musk and incense. the saffron adds a nice depth. i am not sensing much orange blossom which can be a powerful note, so it must be subtle here. it becomes more strongly an amber-incense scent on me with a hint of citrus. it's a bit meditative and it does honestly smell like an incense stick, and one i'd love to try.

starts off with this sharpish green masculine thing i dislike. i think it may be galbanum? i think my skin amps it up and it tends to overpower everything. besides this i maybe get sandalwood and amber? i'm not sure. it mostly smells like men's shaving cream on me, sadly. i don't get any leather or vanilla or amber, which i was hoping for. i think it's just all galbanum on me. eta: after awhile I do get some sort of burnt woody note, so less galbanum but still not a success.
-
oof, very jasminey at first. my skin is wary of jasmine, but let's see where this goes. i get some sandalwood and amber after a minute or two but the jasmine is still strongest. i get something mildly rubbery after a little bit, and then some vanilla. the jasmine is pretty much overpowering everything on my skin, as it often does. i think it's mostly amber and jasmine, that turns to rubbery jasmine candy?! no thanks, will have to swap this one.
-
this starts off as an incensy rose-it's warm and contemplative, and I love it. it seems to ge rose, styrax and ambrette seed primarily. after awhile the rose fades and I think it's mostly myrrh and ambrette. so pretty and the dry-down is wonderful too. I love scents like this! I definitely need more.

i'm iffy on bpal's plum note because it can be plasticky on me. i debated on getting a decant, but decided that hopefully the other notes would predominate. right off i get a "glimmery" ylang ylang. it's very rich almost banana-y. i think i am getting a hint of lily and some amber but not much else. after a few minutes on the skin, i get plum. but it's a nice plum and not plasticky at all yay. it is a bit sweet for my tastes though, especially combined with YY but i am sort of digging it because it's different for me. after awhile i get something more effervescent and aquatic- maybe the garnet/black lily, and it just gets a bit strong and harsh for me. oh well, the opening was really nice, but unfortunately it didn't last.
-
this starts off a smooth soft rosy musk with vanilla. i'm loving the opening, so much, and i don't want it to change! it's very "me". i get the effervesence of the champagne, but it's subdued somewhat due to the vanilla (which i prefer.) the amber then starts coming out, warming and deepening the scent, making it even MORE gorgeous then i get the rosewood which deepens it even more. ok insta-love, need a bottle now!

whoa, right off this smells like dragon's blood and anise/black licorice, with something else i can't place. then it gets much smokier and musky. it definitely smells red and spicy but also bloody and burning. the name is right on! it makes me think of vibrantly delicious 70s horror films. the clove gets more clove-y after time and the musk gets stronger (yay, i love musk.) also i am loving the saffron and red oudh. i'm sorry i can't describe them, but i know it's those notes making me really enjoy this scent. after awhile red musk and clove predominate, and the other notes merge into the background.

i find this to be green, cool and fresh. however it definitely smells fresh and green/aquatic. it kind of reminds me of irish spring a bit (if memory serves.) i dunno what notes these are honestly, maybe it's the "green amber"? all i really smell is fresh detergenty-soap on me. after being on the skin a bit, i get something that seems kind of floral mixed in, i think maybe it's tobacco flower? wherein it gets a little more typically unisex, but it's still very green and soapy to me.
