this smells like a clearer, brighter, less smutty smut. it's got tons of red musk but is lighter and fruiter. not quite as dark. i normally don't like super-fruity scents, but there is enough tea and musk in here to temper the mango to where to doesn't get to sweet or cloying.

this smells like herbal-peppermint in the imp. on my skin it curiously turns to a dry herbal-mint-floral, but i cannot place the florals in this at all. something dry and woody is in the background, rounding out the peppermint, that almost smells cocoa-y, but i cannot place it!

whoa, VETIVER. strong, strong vetiver with something else...perhaps patchouli, as other reviewers have said? i think i also get an astringent-citrus sort of not too, but nothing i can describe in words. definitely don't wanna wear this on my skin ever again, but i will definitely try it in a useful way soon.

in the imp all i can smell is herbals with a hint of lavender. as soon as it hits my skin, it's herbal-cinnamon and no lavender. after it's dry it's straight up cinnamon with a very slight powdery softness behind it.

got this as a frimp from the lab: manly, manly mountainy-aquatic musk. it smells like commercial deodorant or aftershave-not really my kind of scent, but i'm glad i got to try it!

this is a sweet springlike floral, almost cloyingly so. i think i am mostly getting parsley, chamomile and maybe moss? not sure, but it's a very golden-herbal-floral and is much too sweet for my tastes. i was hoping for more gardenia, moss and carnation, but sadly those notes are hardly detectable, if at all on my skin.

Smoky Moon 2009: Tristesses de la Lune
theseagrows replied to Delirium1009's topic in A Little Lunacy
this is quite woody and smoky. in the beginning it smells like oakmoss, which is one of my favorite notes! the oakmoss has faded after a bit and now i am getting the nicotiana and orris and not much else. maybe a touch of musk but no stephanotis, which is too bad because it's another favorite note. this scent is very dry and not sweet but smoky. i really can't tell if i like this or not-i like it a lot with the oakmoss, but now that it has disappeared (or whatever it was) i am feeling sort of ambivalent about it. i think i may have to swap it, but i'll give it one more chance to redeem itself. -
oh god, i forgot that i can't do bpal's milk note. aggghhh it turns into this sweet-nauseating scent on my skin, which is unfortunate cause i can tell that the fig smells quite nice in the background. i don't get any myrrh for some reason. definitely off to swaps

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
theseagrows replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
i just tested All They Had Seen, and All They Had Lost and it smells just like oscar de la renta. -
this is nice and soft, kind of powdery. i get a very soft rose scent-more like yellow roses than red ones. not sure what aspen leaves smell like, but this is a powdery floral on me. it actually smells exactly like oscar de la renta, which my grandmother used to wear, so it reminds me of her.

Serpents with Glittering Eyes and Forky Tongues
theseagrows replied to IronMollyBlack's topic in Discontinued Scents
this is a fruity aquatic on me. i mostly get the red currant and green musk, with a hint of lime. it is a very green and red scent. i'm not getting much lemon or herbs though. nice but too fruity/aquatic for my personal tastes. -
got a sniffie of this in a swap with enough to try! sniffing the imp, and when wet on my skin, there is a strong vetiver note, with the tangerine, which is tangy, in the backround. can't sense any of those other notes at first. once the vetiver calms down though, this turns into a slightly metallic(?) spicy-orange scent. i am not getting a strong amber note-this is warm but not in a rich ambery way. am not getting much cinnamon or licorice either. i kind of like this, it's different than anything i've tried in awhile.

got a sniffie of this in a swap. a little goes a long way! this is very warm, musky and softly masculine. the tobacco is my favorite note in this, but there's something like a golden musk that tempers the tobacco. i don't get any cedar at all, really. there is something slightly spicy underneath that reminds me of a softer clove, but i don't think its clove. this is a nice scent, but it isn't something i could ever wear. i'm delighted that i could try it though!

this is quite a morpher on me. in the imp, this smells like a sweet-resiny blend. on my skin i think the myrrh and orris take center stage, as (i think?) these can both go powdery sometimes, and this is like a resin-powder blend with a hint of coconut and something else slightly sweet. i can't account for that slight sweetness, maybe it's the hyssop? i can't be sure. i am on the fence with this one-it's nice and i like it, just not sure i'd wear it much either though.

nice, warm cinnamony-vanilla scent. i don't get any pine and the clove must be really subtle. this is a pretty fall-like scent, i could see it being really nice in cool weather, however it's a bit too foody/fall like for my personal tastes, so i'll be swapping it.

i tried a bit of this on, and it smells herbal and powdery-a lot like a health food store. when i inhale the scent i feel a bit more calmed and balanced. going to try it on my heart chakra as others have mentioned, and on a candle at a later date in time.

hmm at first this smells slightly like a snuffed out cigarette...not too inviting. however, that fades quickly and then there is a soft musky tobacco scent which is quite nice. now that it has been on my skin awhile i'm getting vetiver, leather and tobacco. or a vetivery-leather...not sure. it's leathery, but with an added oomph, which is making me think of vetiver. this is nice, and i'd like to smell it on my boyfriend, because i'm not sure how much i'd wear it.

i've been having a stressful time lately, so i can't wait to try this in a more purposeful way. today i just tested it on my arm to see if it had any relaxing qualities, and i definitely think it does! at first i get a strong white floral note with spices in the background...i think it's lilac with cinnamon and some musk and other spices. strangely comforting, indeed. i can't wait to try this like the description suggests! eta: today i tried this on my chakras and palms of my hand like the tal website says to do. i am having a very stressful time right now and i think it has helped me feel a bit better today. i feel a bit more able to handle the stress, at least for the moment.

Cream accord, amber, teak, and lotus blossom. in the imp, it smells like musky elmer's glue to me. on my skin however, it's a different story. it's all cream and teak and something in this is reminiscent of sasparilla, but not as bubbly. this actually evokes the name quite well. it's soft, warm, and mysterious. i think the amber makes a nice backdrop, but i am not getting much lotus at all from what i can tell. i quite like this and am pleasantly surprised.

this smells a lot stronger in the imp than on my skin, which mostly seems to eat it right up. in the imp it's clear and herbal, but on my skin it smells like a very soft nectarine with soft, soft aquatics. very beautiful, but very faint-it doesn't have much throw, unfortunately.
-
wow, this is super floral and green. reminds me of bright yellow-green flowers. this scent is very young, girlish and springlike. very, very green-it smells like fresh cut flowers! i think i'm getting an aquatic-lettuce plus hints of floral. it's pretty but too green/innocent for my tastes
-
ooooh this is a beautiful scent! it's a warm vanilla-musk with subtle hints of mandarin and woods. voluptuous and beautiful! i am definitely getting a bottle of this
-
i had high hopes for this, but a teeny voice in the back of my mind said "it might not work." unfortunately, this is the case. it smells like an amped-up pele (i love pele) but with a weird sour, cloying, "old lady" (sorry if you don't like that term, but this is it) scent to it. damn my skin chemistry to hell.

The Antikythera Mechanism
theseagrows replied to VioletChaos's topic in Phoenix Steamworks & Research Facility
wow, this smells amazing! it's fairly basic- warm and vanilla-y with a nice tobacco background. i could see that some would see this as masculine, but i quite like it on me. it's very warm and comforting but sexy at the same time. i kind of want a bottle of this. -
when i first tried this on, it smelled horrible with my skin chemistry...it was actually nauseating! it smelled almost like a kitchen with something cooking in it, which isn't something i want to smell like. as you can guess, it's VERY herbal and strong. however, after an hour it smells quite nice- like a carroty-floral. it's just not worth the horrid first stage to justify me keeping it, unfortunately. .
