at first i get something fruity in this, but it doesn't seem like nectarine to me. i think it may be the combination of nectarine, lilac and lily. it's quite floral at first, but once it soaks in a bit, the musk and beeswax come out more. something in this smells off at first, and after that, pretty unremarkable with my skin chemistry. i can't sense white ginger or green tea much either. it's kind of a fruity-aquatic, which are my least favorite notes, so off to swaps with this one.

i've had a bit of this sitting around for awhile and i finally tried it tonight. it's snowy but warm, with no real pine notes or anything, but definitely something wintry + a touch of sweetness. i mostly smelled the snow, white rose and hints of amber and blackberry. very pretty! even though it's no longer winter, this scent also works in the spring!

when i first sniffed the imp, i wasn't sure about this one, the honey and red currant smelled a bit too sweet. thankfully, the sweetness settles down and becomes a soft, warm scent. the oaklmoss and orris soften it up and thankfully, the patchouli is non-existent or subtle. the black musk is pretty subtle in this too, so it's not as powerful as it sounds-just a soft warm musky scent. almost sort of comforting for me.

Chaos Theory V: Recursive Self-Similarity v1
theseagrows replied to awesomeoverlord's topic in Limited Editions
CXLVI got a decant of this, and i am not so good at picking out notes sometimes. i think this may be dorian with rosewood and vanilla and maybe a hint of rose? maybe a bit of myrrh and tonka? i dunno, it's like an old school powdery scent mixed with dorian. -
ooh i like this even more than i thought i would! it's like a clovey-spicy tea on my skin. there's a sweetness which i think comes from the caramel, currant and anise that really blends together beautifully. the spiciness of the clove keeps it from being too sweet. it reminds me of red/orange spicy or chai tea, mixed with something slightly woodsy or natural. amazing! like drinking a cup of steaming hot tea in the cool air.

whoa what a weird scent. it smells like shampoo and libraries/video rental stores mixed together. i don't know how else to explain it. this is sort of masculine, but sort of not- the musk and vanilla caramel bring the masculinity down a notch. all in all, it doesn't really smell good on me, so i think i'll swap it!

ohh what a delectable and interesting scent! bpal's mum note seems to like me, and here it is no different. this is a smoky-sweet floral with an almost candylike feeling to it. this one morphs a lot on me, i liked it when wet but now that it's dry i'm not sure i like it as much. something here smells chocolatey-earthy here. i think my skin is doing a number on it though so i will try it again later for the final verdict.

sometimes honey is a dealbreaker, but i decided to try this one anyway. i don't have much opinion on it, because my skin seems to eat it right up, leaving me with a very very faint trace of black currant and honey. i need to try this one again at a later date, i think my skin chemistry is strange today.

i was almost sure this would work perfectly on me, and i was mostly wrong! it's quite a morpher, and i do enjoy the underlying notes- i can sense the sugar, vanilla and copal. but something in here just amps up in a very department store-perfumey sort of way and i don't know what it could be. i think maybe the skin musk, but i can't be sure. this one is strange-i'll sniff and it'll smell bad, then it'll smell good a minute later...my skin chemistry is a mystery sometimes. i will set this aside and try it again at a later date.

i really am only getting a subtle lily from this, now that it has subdued on my skin. at first i got a weird sour note, but that faded. there is no stephanotis or cherry to be found, my skin eats it right up. unfortunate too, because stephanotis is my favorite note here.
-
as usual, white rose tends to go sour on me. after this fades a bit, so does the sourness, and the orchid comes out more, and it smells a lot nicer. the labdanum adds a bit of resinyness to the background, grounding the florals. this is nice, but is not wowing me, so i think i'll swap it.

i like this scent, but it isn't quite what i expected. it's definitely floral-oriental, i just thought it would be sweeter from the vanilla. i think bpal's vanilla does strange things on me though. it's very warm and spicy on me, as i think bpal's vanilla really spices up on me. the orange blossom is subtle, i kind of wish it was stronger, but at the same time i really like this how it is!

this is a very soft and beautiful scent! i am mostly getting white musk, oakmoss and tobacco flower, with the TF being the strongest. it's more floral than i imagined, and i can't smell any coconut at all. this is a lovely scent, i'm glad i bought it.

yep, myrrh and cinnamon. i get more cinnamon at the beginning, but once it's been on my skin for awhile, i am getting merely a cinnamon-tinged myrrh. this is alright on me, but nothing spectacular, so i think i'll swap it.

hmm, this smells kind of like elmer's glue in the imp, but when i put it on my skin, it blossoms beautifully. funny how sinister the description is, because this scent is anything but that! it is very misty and otherworldly, though. it's soft and a bit powdery, very subtle and the color that comes to mind is white. i can't really make out any notes at all, actually, it's just a very soft, powdery floral, but not in the way that violet is powdery. the closest thing i can think of is stephanotis, but i'm not sure that's what this is. this is very pretty and i will definitely keep this.

ew. this just does not work on me, at all. in the imp i smell the sandalwood and wine mostly, with maybe a touch of rose. sort of winey-earthy. however, on my skin, the rose turns sour, the wine smells old and there is something that smells like a public bathroom, which i think is the combination of patchouli and jasmine. this just doesn't work with my skin chemistry at all, which sucks because i love the imagery of the scent...

Snake Oil Help! Layering it, Snake Pit scents, blends with Snake Oil
theseagrows replied to spaceprostitute's topic in Recommendations
western diamondback is probably my favorite snakepit scent, HOWEVER, today i got some aged snake oil in a swap and it's very similar. i do not like fresh snake oil, but this aged stuff has got me smitten! i liked most of the snakepit, at least to a degree, but my favorites, along with aforementioned WD, would be: green tree viper, death adder, cottonmouth, habu, and banded sea snake. -
i got this as a frimp in a swap. i find it to be masculine, but in a soft, comforting sort of way. it's not too herbal or aquatic or in your face. it's subtle and a mix of resins and greenery with that slight hint of leather. sage always smells great on me, so i am loving this one. i like it on me and would also like to smell it on my boyfriend!

... A dark, palpably sacred chthonic blend: black narcissus and cypress, stephanotis, opoponax, labdanum, onycha and ambergris. this is a deep, dark scent indeed, but there is a little bit of light in this. something pretty, perhaps the stephanotis? i can't be sure, but it's a subtle and pretty floral, enveloped in a cloud of warm heat and smoke. this is much lovelier than i even thought it would be. nice surprise!

the peach was the one drawback to this scent, but since i had good luck with nectarine lately and liked most of the other notes, i figured i'd try this. starting off the peach and florals are most prominent on my skin, as it dries down, the ambery-cream comes out more and merges with the peach, making for a peach-cream scent. very very pretty! i don't know what it is with me liking fruity scents lately...

for about 5 minutes i LOVED this. i thought "wow this'll be the one yule scent that i buy a whole bottle of." then it dried down and now all i get is a strong cocoa-beeswax scent. gone is the lovely olive oil and smoke
-
i mostly get a snowy scent with fir and rose. maybe a slight hint of blackberries as well as warmth from the skin musk. i am not smelling any white sandalwood or amber in this. it's a bit sour on me (probably from the rose), and not all that compelling with my skin chemistry. too bad, the description of this one is beautiful.
-
yep, i knew the pomegranate would be the deal-breaker here, but i was hoping it wouldn't be. red fruits often turn to scented-doll scent on me, like a fruity plastic scent, and this one does too. it's like scented doll with a hint of leather. scented dominatrix doll??? i dunno!
-
i get some very herbal florals from this, and at first it is quite sharp- there is an underlying wood scent that i've gotten in other bpals that turns on me. not sure what it is though. the snow is very subtle in this, and the musk doesn't come out till it's been on the skin awhile, and then i like it better. i was hoping for more violet, but don't really get much from this. after about an hour, this is a really nice, pretty winter floral.
-
i get mostly snow and sweet pine and sap. the herbs make up most of the background, and the flax and flowers are subtle. most yule scents are too piney/snowy for my tastes, but i still like this. just would only wear it at this time of year.
