Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?
theseagrows replied to Nadirah's topic in Recommendations
gypsy queen on me is dark rose with spicy incense. love in the asylum is similar. though gypsy queen is more incensey and l.i.t.a. is more rosy. -
omg i never ordered this because i wasn't sure of that pear/cucumber combo. i tried it at a friend's last night and this was truly a surprise and i LOVE it! i think i sense the black orchid and crystal musk. not much else i can pick out, because this is a very good blend. it isnt as sweet as it sounds and is dark and floral and really beautiful. now to hunt down a bottle.

tried this at a friend's house. all the foodiness had initially turned me off to this scent, but once i tried it i was in LOVE and must now find a bottle! the cocoa isn't overwhelming and it's a warm vanilla-orange-chocolate scent, but somehow it's not too foody for me i'm not sure about all the other notes. i think i can sense the underlying tea, sandalwood and red amber, which gives it a nice warmth. luckily the sandalwood and cocoa don't go overpowering on me as they have in other blends.

i tried this one at a friend's house. i tend to not be great at finding notes in aquatic scents, because my skin amps that note. the only aquatic yule i own is talvikuu and it reminds me of that because it has the icy scent to it, but it's less minty and intense. i dont get ylang ylang but i think the berries are apparent. so i guess berry aquatic. not a bad scent, just not really me.

BPAL Patchouli - there's nothing else like it
theseagrows replied to Ishtar's topic in Recommendations
i don't like patchouli much either, but once in a great while a patchouli blend works on me. of those, i recommend: ravenous desire count dracula sin i think i can smell it most in desire, with my skin chemistry, but for some reason it doesn't bother me in that scent. in the others i just don't seem to notice it that much! -
i loved stardust 05, and still have a fairly full bottle, so i got in a decant circle and snagged an imp of 06 before committing to a bottle. good thing i did too, because i like 05 much better than the current one. on my skin, 06 seems to be heavier on the poppy on ylang ylang, notes that i don't really like, whereas 05 was heavier on the champagne, musk and tuberose. 05 was sparkly and 06 is more powdery and dry, at least on my skin.

this smells like powdery herbals and woods on my skin. i think i am getting mostly myrrh and cypress, but i'm not really sure. it's difficult to pick out notes. i wish i got the orange, clove, musk and smoke more, then i think i'd like this scent a lot better. it's just not very distinct to me.
-
i like this one better than i imagined! i don't usually go for fruity scents, but i think the florals and woods temper them a bit in this scent. i get the snowy note and some floral and woods and just a touch of apple and that's about it. besides the aquatic, i can't make out any notes at all, it's very well blended. not a big bottle purchase, but i will keep my decant.

my skin mostly ate this up, so i reapplied. it's a warm citrus with a slight sugary note to it. but maybe that's just the fig? this isn't overly ambery on me. in fact, i wish it was more ambery, as it's a bit to sweet for my tastes. a very 'juicy' citrus. i may keep my decant, but probably won't get a bottle.

this smells like fig, leather and musk on me, with a slight patchouli. since the patchouli is understated, i really like this! it's so figgy on me, which kind of smells like the dusty rags mentioned in the description. methinks i'll have to get a big bottle.

i get a sweet snowy scent like whatever is in talvikuu, but the base of this is different. i think i smell the violet far in the background if i inhale deeply. the snow note is cloyingly strong on me at first, and doesn't settle much. this might smell lovely in another hour, but i really don't want to have to wait that long to be able to wear it :/

i am getting a foody/fruity scent from this. maybe it's the pastries? i get a sort of burnt-fruit smell, and it's one of the fruits that turns into a scented doll on me...perhaps grape or plum? i smell something else underneath but can't place it, dirt is the closest thing i can think of as the notes listed, but it doesn't smell like typical bpal dirt to me. i dont get any pine or snow or anything like that, and i dont like this scent on me either.

this is a strange scent. i definitely smell the melon, honey and tobacco in this but not the other notes so much. first it starts off as a fresh melon with something warmer underneath, then the melon fades a bit and leaves a warm tobacco-y vanilla with a touch of melon. it's pretty, but i think i'd like it better without the melon because i personally don't like fruity scents. i may keep this imp though, because the tobacco is just beautiful!

PONTARLIER -- The legendary birthplace of the Green Fairy. Swiss ferns, lilac, blackcurrant, Gallic rose and lavender with a dollop of sugar and absinthe. hm, i thought there was ylang ylang or jasmine in this, but it must be the lilac, which my skin also seems to amp to the nth degree. all i really smell is the lilac, rose and a slight touch of sugar. this smells like generic white floral on me, and since im not really into white florals, i'll be swapping this imp.

unfortunately, the white peach and apple come out strongest on my skin, with the honey and musk in the background. i guess it smells good, but it's so not me. it reminds me of cough drops with a bit of floral. i think people who like fruity-florals would enjoy this though.

i tried this a week ago and for the first hour it smelled just like indian food. i'm not sure what dish, but it definitely had a saffron and curry-esque scent to it. today i re-tried it and at first it smells like moss and dirt, like zombi without the rose. as it dries, the smoke comes out more and a bit of leathery-like sweetness. interesting scent, i think i will keep my imp.

this is sharp and rosy and i see how it is a 'pride' scent. it's sharp in a way that wakes you up. i like it ok but it doesn't wow me. i like my rose scents to be more spicy and/or complex.
-
florals, cinnamon and vanilla. when i first put this on, i did not think i would like it, because the florals were too strong. however, now that it's faded a bit, the vanilla has come out more, softening it into a spicy-vanilla-floral. i think this is a keeper.

this is a churchy-rose scent on me. for some reason the frankincense works well and doesn't turn to pencil shavings. i dont get the lily much, i think it just adds a background to the rose. the myrrh gives it a nice warmth/almost spiciness.
-
this seems so familiar. it smells like a damask rose and it's very dry to me, despite the presence of aquatic notes. reminds me of dried roses stored in a box, with something soapy and sharp added. i am on the fence with this. i sort of like it, but don't love it. i'll have to try it again at a later date, but i think i'll probably end up swapping it.
-
this is a great spring floral. the tuberose and lime are most prominent with the jasmine in the background for once (yay). the tuberose is the strongest note, but i believe the other notes temper its sweetness a bit. very pretty for those who enjoy tuberose.

i got this as a frimp from the lab. this smells like herbal baby powder, and very clean. ick. all the voodoo scents for attraction smell icky on me. another for the swap pile!
-
hm i figured i might hate this one, but it's better than i thought! i'm not sure i'd wear it much though. it starts off as a manly dirt smell, and then it calms down a bit. i definitely smell the patchouli with a hint of juniper. it's a very dark scent. i think i smell a hint of cedar, which can often turn on me, but it's not so far. not sure if i'll keep this one or not, just because it's not very 'me'.
-
got this as a frimp from the lab, which is good, because i had been interested in it, but wasn't too sure about the rosemary. the orange blossom and rosemary are strongest on me, which makes for a floral-herbal scent. i dont sense the rose, but orange blossom is strong, so i'm sure it's hiding in there somewhere. an interesting scent, i think i'd wear this in spring and summer mostly.
-
this is a pretty classic floral with a hint of soft vanilla. i love all the notes in this, except jasmine, unless it's subtle, and luckily it sort of is! i can definitely smell it, but it doesn't overpower. i love tea rose and wish it was a little more prominent, but i still like this. i think i am mostly getting gardenia, vanilla and jasmine. not something i'd wear all the time, but i'll keep the imp and wear it from time to time.
