starts off smelling just like suntan lotion- the coconut is very strong. it dries and then smells like milky coconut cocoa butter. unfortunately, bpal's milk note turns very weird on my skin. it's hard to describe but it's a bit plasticky, and almost burns my nostrils. i looove coconut, but the milk note in this turns me off of the scent.

once again, my skin amps the jasmine and ruins a scent for me :/ i can smell the magnolia and orchid in the background and a bit of amber. the rose is elusive though. but the jasmine is the strongest note and it takes over everythign else. off to swaps with this one.

oh. my. god. i love this one. it reminds me mostly of bordello but with less berryness. i think mostly the tonka, musk and wine come out. oh it's so nice, a bit sweet but the tonka gives it a nice warmth. this is the first bpal i've been blown away by in a long time must order a big bottle of this one!
-
whoa this is nice. it's an aquatic floral with a touch of warmth. i often avoid aquatic scents, so i dont have much to compare it to, but i definitely sense the snowy/icy note that's in talvikuu. i think this is similar to city in the sea, if i am remembering correctly. except i like this one better, it's more floral and less aquatic to my nose...and more of an icy aquatic rather than oceany. this imp is a keeper!

i looove carnation and chrysanthemum, therefore i was attracted to trying this scent. unfortunately the white rose and lily are most prominent on me. i really should just avoid any 'funereal flower' scents because they always smell creepy and old-ladyish on me. i think it's mostly the lily, but rose, which often work, can also go awry in blends like these. also i think white rose turns a bit on me, unlike the straight rose note. off to swaps with this one.

this is quite an interesting scent, at first i get a strong earthy-cocoa/chocolate note mixed with some sort of floral. i can also sense a slight dirt scent way in the background. as it dries, the cocoaness calms a bit and this scent turns into a beautiful powdery-musky-cocoa-y floral. definitely a keeper and possibly a bottle

at first the grapey-plum scent is a bit strong and plasticky (as they often are on me) but as it fades, the violet and myrrh temper it some and bring a warmth to the back of the florals and fruits, almost a bit like musk, but less animalistic...i think that's the myrrh. i dont get a strong violet or fig scent either, and a lot of notes are hard for me to pick out in this one. it's blended beautifully. this is one of the few fruity-florals i think i can enjoy! this one will be a keeper.

i am having trouble picking out notes here. i think perhaps dragon's blood and some sort of white floral- jasmine...or maybe it's lilac how others have mentioned. i swear i smell a bit of orchid too, and something slightly warm and resinous below. eh, this one isn't really for me. the florals are way too strong and they smell a bit like bathroom cleaner on me :/

initially this is very green and reminds me of stems or grass, then the loganberry comes through, which smells pretty much like bpal's grape note on me. some of the grapey/berry scents turn to plasticky-scented doll on me, and this one is no different. this is a loganberry-scented doll carrying a basket of fresh flowers this one isnt a keeper for me...in addition to the plasticky smell, the florals are too sharp and make me sneeze.
-
first off, this is not a very 'me' scent, but i think if the florals weren't there i might like it. i get a herbal sandalwood from this but the white florals add a soapy tone to it and it kind of reminds me of ivory soap but sharper. not really my kind of thing.

carnation is my absolute favorite floral. i was THRILLED beyond belief when moonarcana frimped me some of this in a swap! it's a beautiful soft but spicy carnation with a very, very slight woodiness in the background. now i'll take on the impossible task of hunting down a big bottle!

hm, this smells like a lemony-pine air freshener on me with a touch of herbs. it seems to morph a lot, one minute i sniff it and i sort of like it, the next i sniff it and it smells too synthetic on my skin. and i've tried it twice! i am totally on the fence, but i think even if i do end up liking this one, it's not one i'd wear all that much. it just doesn't seem as complex on my skin as the description.

this smells so familiar, like an incense i burned a lot in high school. i cant quite place it, but it's got a bit of sweetness to it. i tried it last night and got a faint pencil-shaving scent, which usually means frankincense or cedar for me, but today it just smells like pure incense. it really does have a generic incense feel, as others have said, but i really really like it. may have to get a big bottle of this one.

wow i should've paid attention to the phrase deep cocoa in the description! i pretty much get cocoa, almond and maybe a faint patchouli-musk combination. nowhere are the blooms or leather, which are actually my favorite notes in this scent. way too nutty/foody for my tastes.
-
wow, this is totally what i thought/hoped snow white would be. unfortunately snow white had a foody note that did not do well on my skin. snow-flakes however, is devoid of that note, and it smells beautiful! it's crisp and clear, yet a bit golden and soft. i don't really sense the mint that others have, but i smell soft florals and maybe some sort of vanilla? it's hard for me to pick out the notes in this. i may need to get a big bottle of this one!

at the beginning, all i get is a cherry-medicinal smell after it finally dries down it's a sweet cherrified-red musk. it's not too fruity once it dries down (which i like), but there are other similar scents that i like a lot better, so i am afraid this isn't a keeper.

strangely enough, this is not a very "me" scent, but something about it is intriguing me. i dont smell any of the pine or foresty notes at all, except maybe very distantly in the background. i smell a sweet floral, which reminds me of a less sweet and intense version of empyreal mist, which was far too strong for me. i don't think i'd buy a bottle but i'll keep my imp.
-
this reminds me of a less floral and sweet version of the mouse's long and sad tale. strangely enough the only similar element is the sweet pea. this is a great deal more powdery than that scent, however. i think orris and perhaps myrrh can become powdery on my skin. i kind of like this one, i'll have to try it again and see if i like it more. i wish the roses came out more, but my skin eats them right up.

i get it from gypsy queen, like many others. also freak show was very candley/smoky.

i second bayou and i'd add the isles of demons, which smells more like wet tropical blooms. i got a very green feeling when i tried it.

The Lowdown on Incense & Resin - The Best Recommendations
theseagrows replied to Ms. MSGirl's topic in Recommendations
i was happy to find this thread when i did a search. i still don't understand my skin chemistry in regards to incense notes. i tend to be all over the board, some incense blends are my absolute favorites, while some were stomach-churning with my skin chemistry. of the list posted earlier these work: Bastet, The Cracked Bell, Dia de los Muertos, Gypsy Queen, Haunted, Love in the Asylum, Sin, Snake Charmer, Wanda, Xiuhtecuhtli, midnight on the midway (if it's indeed considered and incense blend.) these are ones that didn't turn rancid but weren't my cup of tea: Anubis, Crossroads, Kathmandu, Les Infortunes de Vertu, Mantis. the following were really bad with my skin chemistry: Cairo, The Caterpillar, Cathedral, Dee, Jacob's Ladder. i think incensy-florals work for me and churchy-incense blends do not. i think myrrh works on me sometimes and frankincense turns to pencil shavings nearly all of the time. anyone have any other insight? -
this is incensy and leathery on me, though i doubt leather is in it. i can do some bpal incense scents, and others, like cathedral, i just can't. well i can't do aureus either, and seeing comparisons to cathedral explains it all. cedar and frankincense often don't work, so i'm thinking this has one of those two in it.

my friend had this one and i hadn't tried it so i figured i'd give it a try. and i wish i hadn't. it just smelled bad on me, kind of like the parmesan cheese someone else mentioned. kind of resiny and musky but with a bad kind of turning to it. i didnt get any sweetness or citrus, and i generally like citrus. oh well im glad i got to try it anyway, it sounded so intriguing on other people

i love carnation scents and this one worked nicely on my skin at first. i love all the notes except for plum which often turns into a scented-doll scent, and it sort of does it in this one. there is an added spiciness from the carnation which tempers it some, but i wish this didnt have plum, all the other notes together sound like a dream.

i always avoided this for Fear of the Apricot, but i had a sniff-off with a couple friends and i tested this one, and i actually like it! i guess the clove comes out more on my skin. strangely, this smells more like citrus on me than sweet apricot. a pleasant surprise!
