    Namaste

This is really a beautiful scent on me. I don't know how my skin does it and I must be in the minority based on people's reactions, but lemongrass smells VERY distinct and different than lemon to me, and this is clearly lemograss- that added herbal quality rather than lemon oil from lemon peels or whatever. I think the cedarwood and/or sandalwood and secondary on me, with the patch behind that. Rose & jasmine are both well behaved- no screaming jasmine or ammonia rose here! (I am not usually friends with heavy florals) There is something about this that smells incense-y and grounding. The lemongrass is stimulating enough that this isn't sleepy, but it is relaxing, if that makes sense. Centered. Great expression of the concept, and really beautiful, delightful scent...

Hibiscus, matcha, white musk, and lime. I apparently cannot smell lime? Anyway, to me this is hibiscus and white musk, with a tiny bit qof green tea hiding underneath. The hibiscus is tart and bright, really refreshing. Great hot weather scent!

I am so glad I am someone who can actually wear Cedar...this blend is incredible. Very much more than the sum of its parts. The cedar is sweetened significantly by the black currant. The fruit isn't really identifiable to me, it just adds background sweetness and a roundness to the scent. Saffron is probably the second note I smell, and it does some weird dance with the cedar that is really, really interesting and smells incredible. I think this would smell good on a guy but it is definitely gender neutral; I have no problems wearing it myself. Yum!

    Yankee Candle to BPAL

Oddly, I keep noting a strange similarly between Yankee Candle's Autumn and The Jersey Devil. Both have what smells like fir and cranberry notes to me.

    Amaterasu v2

Beautiful. I'm starting to think I shouldn't bother testing sniffles people frimp me lol, because I end up on wild goose chases. This is absolutely gorgeous, musky vanilla with sandalwood and some floral hiding underneath. It is very approachable, almost commercial perfume like, but deeper and throatier. On my skin this just glows, amber too I think maybe, and a tiny hint of something sharp and dry like cedar or something. Maybe just a different sandalwood note as others have mentioned....one of my favorites. Really beautiful.

    The Volstead Act

Sherry lollipops. In a really, really, good way. I could never have identified a single note without looking, thins is fruity but my skin amps the alcohol I guess which makes it not smell as sweet. I don't think I smell like a drunk. And I don't care, truthfully. I smell really good. Nom.

    Halloween: New Orleans

Wow, I like lemon, but I smell NO lemon. I guess what I smell is sweet olive...whatever it is I really like it. It is a gentle floral scent, with a watery undetone. Really pretty, really understated, and just beautiful.

    Shanghai Tunnel

Sadly not for me. I hoped for aquatic pine and stone, and my skin must be amping whatever reads to people as mildew. Because it smells like mildew on my arm. Interesting, but er....no.

    Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)

This scent is an amazing example of how your tastes change and grow. Back in 2009, I tried this scent, lured in by pomegranate and plum and ridiculously good reviews. At the time, for some reason, I couldn't handle the red musk. Something in my chemistry has changed since then, because it no longer tajes over the perfume. Now it is exactly what you have all been raving about! This is beautiful, incense, light patchouli, pomegranate and plum, just absolutely wonderful. I know Snake Oil is the "standard basic recommendation" everyone makes, but I think it should be Mme. Moriarty. This is incredible!

    Thisbe

Ack! Rose scary! Rose eating everything! Sad, it sound so beautiful but this is really the first time BPAL rose has gone just wrong on me.

    Snake Oil

By far, our most popular scent! Magnetic, mysterious, and exceedingly sexual in nature. A blend of exotic Indonesian oils sugared with vanilla. This is so hard to review at this point, after everything that has been said, but I'll take a shot at it. On me, Snake Oil goes from a fairly nondescript vanilla incense smell to a must warmer, sultry vanilla. Seriously, this is not BBW vanilla! It doesn't feel sweet or goody to me, and I wouldn't call it spicy. I don't get cassia, cloves, or any of the other usual suspects of spicy. Instead this is a thick, rich, warm scent. It blooms on the skin and I've noticed that it smells very different on different people. A wonderful experience, and a great perfume.

    TKO

Lavender, eucalyptus maybe? Something else, for sure. (I'm so helpful!) it does give a marshmallow type feel, soft and pillowy. The lavender isn't as astringent asnthe somnium blends; compared to Somnus this is voter and gentler. It works for me, and I adore it.

    Red Tide

ZOMG red. So good. The raspberry scent I've been dreaming of for a few years now but haven't been able to find. I know I smelling mostly cranberry, too, but it is delicious. So good. A must try for berry people

    Autumn Coolness

I love the bamboo note. I want more of it everywhere! *makes grabby hands* This blend is mostly bamboo, with the cassia hiding underneath. I can smell the wisteria mixed in with the bamboo, but mostly it is the reedy, clear bright bamboo with a backbone from cassia. Delicious, evocative of an early fall rain, and wonderful. I love it!

    Banded Sea Snake (2006)

This is snake oil with clear olive leaf, a note I'm coming to really enjoy. I recognize it from Halloween New Orleans...green and deep. It also feels a little brighter, more aquatic than Snake Oil. Really nice, like "summer" snake oil

    Wensleydale

Totally as describe. Scrubbed skin, soap and cotton. Clean and crisp. Relative to Dirty, this has more...presence. It is something more than soap- I think of sheets hung on the line, you know? Dirty smells like a bar of soap to me. This is "sheets and people who have been cleaned by a bar of soap." Or something. Refreshing and light.

    Habu

This blend breaks my heart- something about it goes so OFF on me. I suspect the black musk, as we've quarreled before. But I adore bamboo, and that is front and center in the blend. I can barely tell this is a Snake Oil variant, but I may be distracted by the horrendous thing my skin does to this- burning bandaids. This is really sad- I wanted to love it. This may not be a great bet if heavy musks don't work for you...

    Golden Wave

This is gorgeous on me- Tangerine and guava and passionfruit, very little alcohol scent on my. I think I can smell the tonic giving it a little bite underneath- it doesn't have that juniper-y smell that gin usually does, and no alcohol. Bright, cheery, summery and fruity I like it- although I am easily pleased with tangerine

    Swan Maiden

I wish the orchid was there. Instead, shrieking gardenia (I should know better ) Beautiful in the bottle but just raging white floral headache on my skin. Oh well...

    Selkie

I should know that since this is an aquatic for people that normally can't wear aquatics, it wouldn't work on me. I usually can wear them without turning into air freshener, but this one smells like fabric softener on me. Oh well...it will find a good home

    Cykranoshian Catnip

Strange. Orange and rosemary? a little harsh, and the woodiness read as almost-pine to me. I actually like pine, but this wasn't for me. Oh well, sad...

    The Buggre Alle This Bible

This is the most incredible book geek blend ever. It is leather and incense, with tobacco and parchment. Just warm and beautiful. A bit masculine, but cozy masculine rather that sexy masculine. Yummy!

    Ushi

Juicy, juicy mango, with acidic crushed tomatoes behind it. As it dries, the red musk comes out strongly and it goes from being mango-tomato to mango-red musk. It's mouthwatering at very stage, a really different blend. The fig stays hidden for me...

    Black Opal

There is no way to review this scent without boggling for a moment. How does this happen, stone in a scent? Anyway, I get mostly vanilla. And air. Not ozone or anything that you would normally call air like in a scent, but...I don't know how to describe it. Just try it, it is incredible!

    Sudha Segara

Warm comfort, soft ginger sweetened by honey, the milk note is so gentle. Not really sleepy, but very relaxing.
