Ew. I hate this. But then again, I hate anything in the "snake oil" family, as the previous reviewer mentioned. This is vetiver. LOTS of vetiver. It's very masculine and definitely "unwholesome," but not in a good way. I love my feminine scents. Hate this.

This is all violet to my nose, and something dark lurking beneath... mrryh perhaps? However, it is a very faint scent. Nice, but I don't love it.

My god, this is gorgeous AND complex. The florals (most prominent are lilac and rose) temper the evil sweetness of the black plum, usually a death note for me. However, here this is lovely. The plum and berries are delicious, and the smoky opium is one of my favorite notes, too. Here it just lends the blend a spicy kick. Lovely. I want a bottle of this!

MVJBA: Pancake Breakfast
thelaurenator replied to iiinterstate's topic in Black Phoenix Trading Post
Like the former reviewer, this is ENTIRELY buttery pancakes with golden maple syrup. I get no hint or fruit or berry anywhere. The "pancake" note is rather dry and not as sweet as the lab's "cake" note. The throw of this seriously smells like pancakes baking. It's crazy. Up close, I do get a little bit of the nasty bisquick note people have mentioned. SIGH. However, I do love this scent and I am keeping it for the throw alone which is SCARILY authentic. -
I get a lot of skin musk and faint rose, lilies, and some other weird florals I can't identify. This is pretty, but very light, much lighter than I expected. I think if I had tried this when I first got into BPAL I would have loved it. I *like* it but I don't know if I need a big bottle of it. I'll hang onto my imp, I think.

The Arrival at the Sabbath and Homage to the Devil
thelaurenator replied to LittleGreyKitten's topic in The Salon
This is luscious. I get ALL the notes, even the sandalwood which makes me Wet: mostly bourbon vanilla with a slight caramel undertone Ten minutes later: luscious caramel, benzoin, and the florals. so light and beautiful. Drydown: delicious caramel and warm, dry, EXPENSIVE sandalwood. the sandalwood also gives it a slightly infernal quality I love the sandalwood in this blend and this is simply just MADE OF WIN. I need a 5ml of this. -
Utrennyaya is mostly violet with a white mint and rose background. it's pretty, but very soft.
-
I'm getting lovely white mint, violet, and rose, in that order. Nice, but not really my thing. ETA: after ten minutes, WHOA VIOLET with just a tad of mint.

OMG! This is Goblin of Yuletide Past Atmospheric Spray, minus the sugar cookie. SO dead on. I also see the snow bunny reference, this is very much like that with a piney element added to it.
-
Something creamy and peachy. The creamy element smells completely foreign and I'm guessing that is the rice flower, since I know what all the other notes smell like. This is utterly lovely! However, like all the Lab's fresh, light florals, it fades far too quickly. Another thing, too... this perfume isn't so much evocative of a sinful love affair than it is a virginal blushing bride or something like that!

This is a beautiful scent. Very sweet, almost candyish, misty evergreen scent. This is very beautiful, but I don't detect ANY rose! This is being swapped as we speak, because it's just not really me. but I can see why this scent is so beloved-- it IS gorgeous!
-
this is so gorgeous. an incredibly soft, misty floral. i get a lot of moonflower here.
-
this is beautiful-- like verbena baby powder and lavender. so soft and feminine.
-
This bath oil smelled odd! I definitely got the sharp, crisp, sort of masculine "frozen flowers"-- but where is the pomegranate?
-
this is a lot "fresher" smelling in the imp than the notes would leave me to think. Ummm... I'm undecided on this scent! On, I get mostly rose with an undercurrent of red currant.
-
mostly amber tempered with red fruit. nice, but I'm not really a fruit person... only very specific blends work for me.
-
dragon's blood and some floral I've never smelled. poppy perhaps? Dragon's blood is always weird on me. It's very subdued, yet sharp. I don't really like dragon's blood scents very much...
-
I have no idea what this smells like, but I keep getting frimped it by the Lab. Gross! It smells like cough syrup. Definitely not joy inducing.
-
in the imp, I smell lavender. On my wrist, I smell lavender. Nice, but... it's lavender, and that's about it.
-
Um, this smells like rotting jasmine. It must be the "mahogany" I'm smelling underneath that piercing Jasmine smell. And coffee. I get NO rose whatsoever.
-
This is nice, I guess. Pretty boring, but not bad. It's fresh and clean. Pretty much matches the description-- astringent white tea and florals.
-
This is surprisingly... good. It doesn't smell much like leather, but I do love that note, whatever it is. It's very difficult to describe. It smells black. This smelled more like what I thought "Black Rose" would smell like.
-
this is just okay. I'm getting dirt, sweet patchouli, and rose. Not really my thing. Patch and earth smells better with amber and perfume like in Penny Dreadful, not with a floral like rose.
-
this is a very fresh, high-pitched floral blend. the lavender and honeysuckle are strongest. it's alright, pretty two-dimensional though.
-
I have the 2007 version. Very nice! A pretty, full-bodied red rose. Doesn't do much morphing. Stays a true rose. Very similar to London, only minus the clean, lemon note.
