I would have guessed white sandalwood. Very clean, a little vanilla peeking out. I often don't like soapy scents and this isn't not soapy. But it's not acrid and I am enjoying this a lot. The frankincense and leather may be helping. Image: white wood in a frame of metal filigree. White leather and gold frankincense detailing. This is improved by pairing it with Elf. It just adds a little pale wood, sunshine and leaves.

Seconding Urd for strong grape champa and if you see Snooty Bat on the sales page, that might be good. Especially if you'd like something sweet with clove. Currently Goose Moon has a duet that is just Nag Champa and White Gardenia

Powdery rose, the powder being supplied by the amber and frankincense, I'd assume. On the bright side, champa is incredibly iffy on me but here it's well behaved and wonderful. I know this isn't the blends thread, but this scent is a jarring disaster with Orc. Drow is some amazing purple incense, though. The sweetness really tempers the powdery Cleric.

Astringent airy tea with plum and fig. This is perfumey in the sense that it is clean and almost aldehyde-ish. Nutmeg and pepper play well, blending in and providing just a hint of warm earthiness. This is firmly in the conventional purple perfume family of smells. Similar to a lot of other scents I like, but I keep wanting to smell this one.

That is a white amber, yes. I definitely smell cardamom and vanilla in the mix and it's not powdery. This is absolutely beautiful but seems to be lacking something. However, layering? Amazing. I've only tried Fighter so far but I want to try Bard and Assassin.

Whatever baked good this is smells like it has glaze on top. As far as the fruit, I really can't tell what it is but I think it's cooked. I'm flashing back to muffins with strawberry or apple chunks or maybe even those fake blueberries. I don't know why the cardamom is making me think specifically of muffins but it is. verdict: nom. This is foody. This is uber foody. Quiets down pretty quickly though.

That is a dragon's blood that doesn't turn into overwhelming red candy on me. The leather, acid, and ozone all stay in balance (at least so far). Not sweet. It smells chemical, but not in a bad way at all. I have Tiefling on one hand and Dragon Born on the other and this is the one I keep going back to sniff. It's weirdly compelling.

Quiet but emphatic patchouli with red musk and faint brimstone/clove. Smooth, sweet and spicy. It's not super quiet on me but it's quieter than the notes alone would suggest. Would be a good winter scent. I generally like sweet patchouli with red musk and this is subtle version, wearable in most* situations. (*Unless the situation calls for no perfume, or more neutral scents.)

Drow + Assassin: Perfect match. The berries and leather add complexity. Lawful Drow Assassin Lawful isn't contributing very much here. It's there and it's not bad but that's all. Lawful Good Drow Assassin: Straight up purple rock sugar candy and darkness. Way too sweet. I'm pretty sure Good would have the candy effect on Drow even without the other elements, but Assassin's berries may really be cranking it up and adding a darker backdrop. There's a slightly lemony component which might be the Lawful. Evil Drow: Another good match, Evil cuts some of the purple lollipop sweetness of Drow. Drow Cleric: I don't like Cleric paired with most other things but the somewhat powdery rose and champa goes well here. Evil Drow Cleric is a natural match.

That certainly is a plum perfume. I also tend to automatically read plum scents as perfume. It's dark and about medium strength. I'm not getting much complexity. It's nice, but to me there's not a lot that would make me choose it over other plum perfumes. Drider Crossing Guard might be more to my taste. Either that or wearing the scent layered. (By the way, Assassin fits this one well.)

Green banana peels? This is murky and balanced and clean. In fact, fine: I am imagining an orc massage therapist right now. I don't know if I'll wear it but it is nice and relaxing.

In the bottle I can smell a pollen rich floral mingling with the snake oil. Already this is a beautiful spring scent. I imagine this will make a lot of people happy. On, the lilac comes out strong and the SO is making it even louder. I'd compare it to the world's most amped up spring floral drier sheets, except the lilac is way better than that. The closest comparison I can make is Cottonmouth, but they're not that close. Verdict so far: lovely but my skin amps it and turns it into something nearly medicinal.

New snake oil blends are weird at first and this is no exception. Immediately after putting this on I smelled something faintly fruity, a bit like strawberry candy. Maybe the plum cognac and snake oil's possible red musk? I do smell a watery poppy as well. I know from experience the Snake Oil will get stronger after some aging. It's pretty shy right now. If I wasn't so eager to do some testing and reviewing I would wait because I can't really imagine what this will age into. A darker opium and a more realized Snake? Watch this space.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this dark lilac scent. Truly melancholy. The myrrh comes out on me strong here and almost smells like its smouldering. If you've seen the 2024 Nosferatu, this is what I believe the movie would smell like. Earthy night floral washed in moonlight.

Something on top that is faithful to real brimstone and also is just a little bit reminiscent of ginger. Beneath there's an extremely gnarly compost-pile note. Almost patchouli or maybe a smoky fermented tea like lapsung souchung. Or vetiver. It's probably vetiver. Throw is the lighter top note and a little smoke rather than the gnarliness.

Silenti (VILF) absolutely captures a funeral feel.

My kitchen still smells like chocolate pudding the day after spraying this. It's El Dia de Los Reyes. The coffee comes out early and fades the quickest. The chocolate goes slightly artificial for a bit, but it's not bothering me at all. It's really good.

Incense and Blackcurrant Sufganiyot Atmosphere Spray
patina replied to doomsday_disco's topic in Atmosphere
Glorious. There's the blackcurrant sufganiyot I recognize from the oil. The blackcurrant fans out into almost a cotton candy over doughnuts. The incense is light, maybe with just a hint of dryer sheet, but not distracting. In fact the clean edge it adds is really nice.- 4 replies

I have never tried Hearth before, which is a shame because I love this. Almost foody tobacco and wood with a strong kick of leather and a bit of cinders. Probably not for leather haters. I don't think it makes my room smell like someone was smoking a pipe either. Might be a bit too much in warm weather though. Edit: it does hit as powdery sometimes though.

I had to edit this because the first review was kind of a mess. In the vial I smelled candle and maybe a peppery ivy. On, there's hyacinth and other florals that usually make me think of spring. Kind of lilac colored. Underneath it is some sour cypress and poisonous smelling berries. The candlewax prevents it from getting too sour. This dries to something fairly light.

At first this was too similar to my memory of The Light of Men's Lives for me. However, there's a stronger sooty note that I'm really enjoying.

I get a pale orange honeyed note. It smells a lot like honeybush tea but I think it's the amber. The clove isn't super sharp. Right now this is dark but the throw isn't very intense. This should age well because of the vetiver and oudh.

The art was too tempting on this one. It smells Irish Spring adjacent, (but not harshly soapy) with wet leaves. I've smelled horse chestnut leaves. They don't have a particularly strong smell to me, but this is accurate. It's definitely not the usual Dead Leaves scent. This might be an August painting, but it works for November rain too. Very relaxing actually.

I was hoping for something comparable to Opium Poppy. This has the floral, but the agave is prominent, giving off a green sweetness that almost seems aquatic. It is unlike Opium Poppy's dark, silky floral but is pleasant enough in its own way.

2024: A bit of rich buttercream with gobs and gobs of cheap whipped cream plus a thin but undeniable layer of sunscreen. That last note is jarringly unfoody compared to the rest of the scent. I can't tell whether I like this one or not. It's straightforward and very simple but also weird. The makeup/suncreen element isn't exactly pleasant on its own, but it is interesting. Edit: I really like this layered with Datura.
