Middle Eastern flowers, amber, honey, blood red-berries, whip leather, and polished paddle wood. This smells so familiar and it is driving us crazy! I keep smelling it and smelling it and I cannot place what it is. It was instant love. I fell asleep with my wrist over my nose hoping I would dream about whatever it is it reminds me of. At any rate, it has a touch of sweetness and amber, and the leather is apparent, but the rest combines into this mystery I cannot solve. I *know* this scent. K says it smells like incense that we used to burn often. Damn, I wish I could put my finger on this.

My initial reaction was to freak out love it. after wearing it, I wasn't sure I really liked it as a perfume-- more of a room scent/candle scent than a perfume scent. K said it's too sweet, which means it's really, really sweet, because the boy likes sweet. I didn't get pumpkin from it as much as a warm butter cookie and orange/mango. I did get ginger at first but it faded. I

Wet, this is so incredibly violet that I think, prior to this moment, perhaps I have never actually smelled violet before. I am not a fan. It dries down okay, soft and minty sweet, but I will never get through the violet.

BPAL Patchouli - there's nothing else like it
malibusunny replied to Ishtar's topic in Recommendations
I was going to suggest Illustrated Woman as well. In my "patchouli" notes on my spreadsheet, I also have: Shadow the obsidian widow hetairae (this note says "warm honey patchouli") Lots of blends have patchouli in them, but these are the ones where I noted patchouli as a primary on my skin. YMMV. -
At first, I wasn't crazy about it. I couldn't say why, it was just too fruity bright. After an hour or so it was strong and a little sandalwoody, but it ended up a nice buttery almostcaramel sweetness. Sort of reminds me of a candle I loved from Bath and Body Works.

Recommend a scent for a specific dress or outfit
malibusunny replied to veronicafranco's topic in Recommendations
I love the dress! I think I would wear Ronin with it I think. saint foutin de varailles might be nice, too. -
When I first put this on, I hated it. I was so disappointed -- all I got from it was this weird, suntan lotion-y smell and a sour (as opposed to sweet) lavender. Then, a few hours later, I caught the scent of it in the car and it was a really nice incense scent, nag champa and sandalwood. I'm trying again just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. And then, if it is lovely again, I really have no idea what to do with that. I don't know if I would be willing to go through the initial stages on a regular basis.

#116: Round and bold, like really dark purple grape juice. ADDED July 27: okay, so I found a very similar note in The Chapel, which is Black incense, bitter wine, brimstone, and blood. It's not the black incense, obviously, but it could be the bitter wine or the blood. Or a combination of the two.

Just opened the bottle to sniff -- I love it already. It's dirty and boozy and totally wonderful. The booze is rich, almost molasses-y, and the tobacco is strong. There's also something leathery but not new car leather, more like old gloves. If this scent tried to pick me up in a bar, I'd be helpless to resist. No one really cares what it does on my body, but I touched a tiny bit from the lid to my wrist and I've lost the boozy and it's a little spicier. I cannot wait to see how this one plays out.

Chaos Theory VI: Recursive Self-Similarity v5
malibusunny replied to MCS4096's topic in Limited Editions
98. Apparently, I am TERRIBLE at picking out scents. I mean, there is amber. I figured that much out from the name. LOL. I mostly know what it is not: it is not anything I normally wear. There is something floral, but I don't know what sort of floral it is, because I don't do florals, except that I know it's not rose. There is something a little sharp to my nose, but not citrusy exactly. As it sits on my skin, it turns soapy, like, ivory soap soapy. ozymandias did the same thing on me. It makes me sneeze even from a distance. I'm not in love with it by any definition, but it was fun to try. -
I didn't have a description for this one, but I did get apples when I sniffed it. Unfortunately, that is all I got. But reading the reviews tempts me to skin test it. Because caramel and oak bark sounds fantastic.

I'm like the previous poster who was all "incense? okay!" without realizing it would be rose. when I first opened it up, I smelled incense and wine vinegar (not in a bad way), but nothing floral. My first review was "I have no idea. I will have to try this again when I am smelling properly, because all I am getting is soap and vinegar." But when I wore it for the first time I ended up with a nice, faded incense smell, warm and a little spicy, a little dusty, that I really liked. The floral faded off completely on my skin.

I love love love this. Wet, it is sweet and peppery, but not foodie. On my skin, it's mostly honey and sandalwood, delicate but lasting. I lose the pepper completely but that's really okay.

On me, this is the worst scent I've ever tried. It smells... poopy. My spreadsheet gained an extra column just so I could note that this traumatized me.

In the bottle, I thought this smelled very perfume-y. I know, I know. On, it's sort of like punch. The reddish kind, with the ice cubes made out of frozen juice. Weird, I didn't get honey or patchouli at all. I do get the cherry wine. Now I'm deep sniffing my wrist and I can sort of get honey with the suggestion in my mind. Cool how different things are on different people!

Warm and sweet and nutty.

Mine is very licorice in the bottle but dries to a more sweet coconutty + hint of licorice. But, honestly, I don't like it very much. I think I'm looking to trade.
