    Meadow scents!

No love for Regan? I think it's the perfect green and flowery scent! I know most people just get vanilla from it, but on me Regan is a soft green scent with a hint of orchid in the background.

    The Antikythera Mechanism

Sadly, The Antikythera Mechanism went on smelling like an ashtray. I never got any of the well-oiled woods and smoky vanillas that everyone else got. Bummer. I might age my imp a bit and see what happens, but I get the feeling this was a fail on me.

    The Apple of Sodom

Huh, I didn't get any form of apple out of The Apple of Sodom. Going on wet, I get a mash of different scents; spices, some kind of floral, and an herbal bitterness. As it dries down though, the notes seem to tone down a bit and I'm left with what seems to be apple blossoms and .. cinnamon? The Apple of Sodom didn't wear long at all, 3 hours, but the throw was phenomenal. When I put it on originally, I really didn't care for it, but it's grown on me. I'll keep the imp and see where it goes from there.

    Grand Guignol

Wow, this scent is spot on! The tartness of the apricot and the booziness of the brandy really come together well. Sadly I don't really want to smell like apricot brandy, so off to the swaps we go! Throw and wear were both very good, btw.

    The Lights of Men's Lives

From all of the reviews, I was convinced I would like The Lights of Men's Lives. I mean, I love vanilla, smoke and beeswax. But I didn't really care for this scent, and I don't know why. Something in the blend is very sweet and foody, and it makes me slightly sick. It isn't a bad scent, it's just a bit much. I think I might hang onto the imp and see if it grows on me though.

    Dorian

Dorian is a prime example of why I should let an oil dry down completely before judging it. When I originally tried Dorian, I swiped some on and immediately thought 'Wow, this smells like cologne,' then promptly washed it off. Luckily I decided to give it another go. This time, I waited a bit before taking a sniff and WOW, so much better! After Dorian had a chance to settle on my skin, it turned into a sugary vanilla musk. It reminds me of vanilla-flavored tea, with a tiny bit of lemon to cut down on the sweetness. It faded away after a few hours, but I don't mind slathering on some more. Definitely need to get bottles of this!

    Ile de la Tortue

Wow, totally not what I was expecting. Instead of being a dark and sultry scent, Ile de la Tortue is a tropical floral with a hint of greenness under it. I can't quite pinpoint the floral aspect of it, mostly I get orchid and gardenia. Definitely a summer scent, something to wear while wearing a bikini and sipping a frozen drink. The wear is fairly long, and the throw is amazing. And for people who are scared of Vetiver (like me), I didn't get a hint of it in this scent. Very nice

    Bordello

Hmm I didn't get any wine or amaretto from Bordello. On me it's mostly candied currants. It's like a juicier version of Candy Phoenix, which I really like. Throw and wear are very strong. A lovely and very sweet scent, me like!

    Morocco

Yay, I finally joined the bandwagon and tried Morocco. Originally I was hesitant to try it, since I'm not much of a carnation person, but I was actually quite impressed! Morocco is a soft, spicy scent layered over vanilla. The two main players in this scent is carnation and vanilla. It has good throw, and lasted for around 5 hours, not too shabby. Haha, honestly I can't think of much else to say. It's a beautiful, well-made scent that is good for any time of the day, any season. Well done, Lab!

    Mouse's Long and Sad Tale

Mmm this smells nice. Putting this on, I get sweet pea and a soft, warm vanilla. Nothing too rich or foody here. As it dries down, ML&ST starts to turn powdery, but not in a bad way! Think more like freshly washed skin with a dusting of sweet pea-scented powder. The throw is minimal, and I think the wear is going to be light (it's been two hours since I put this on and it's disappearing). Overall a beautiful, delicate scent that I really enjoy!

White Chocolate, Strawberry, and White Pepper Truffle

I feel like I'm just rehashing everyone's reviews, but whatever! White Chocolate, Strawberry, and White Pepper Truffle smells exactly like the name. In the imp and on my skin, wet and dry, it smells like white chocolate with strawberry extract, with a punch of pepper to keep it from being too totally sweet. There's a slight plastic edge to it that reminds me of those weird scratch and sniff stickers I used to buy, specifically the Strawberry Shortcake ones. It's a nice scent, a bit much for everyday wear though. I think if the white pepper had come out more I'd be more willing to wear it. I'll definitely hang onto the decant though.

    Smut

Smut '10 Huh, this one's definitely a morpher. In the imp I get sugary booze. Going on wet I get a freaking lovely mix of sugar syrup, booze, and a shot of musk. So nice. Drying down though.... Smut does the same thing to me that Now Winter Nights Enlarge did; it ended up a sickeningly sweet red musk. I think it might be the combination of sweetness mixed with red musk, but something about it just makes my stomach turn slightly. It's throw and wear is amazing, just a drop of this makes you smell all 'smutty' for hours. I looked up this scent on the Aging BPAL thread and apparently it ages very well, so I think I'll hang on to it for awhile. I'm hoping that aging it will knock down that weird sickly-sweet note that keeps popping up.

    Octopus and Abalone Diver

I'm very divided on the Octopus and Abalone Diver scent. In the imp and going wet on my skin, it smells the same: a very strong floral with a slight tang to it. I hate to say it, but it smells like something Glade would make. As it wears on my skin though, other elements come out which temper the floral a bit. The end result is more what I wanted it to be, a light floral with a hint of water and salt. It has strong throw and very good wear. It's a nice scent, and I'll definitely keep my decant, but I doubt I'll get a bottle.

    Inez

I received a decant of Inez a few days ago, and I still can't decide if her and I are going to get along or not... When I first applied Inez, all I got was carnation. It was so much like Hod that it made me cringe and want to wash it off (Hod and I didn't get along either). However as it dries, the scent softens somewhat, going from a sharp spicy scent to a soft, spicy floral. I don't get any cedar from this, nor any sandalwood. Overall, it's an interesting scent, and I'll definitely keep the decant, but I don't know if I want to spring for a bottle just yet.
  15. I'm in desperate search for a specific floral, so maybe someone on here will be able to give me some recs I'm specifically looking for a white floral that won't go to soap on me. A few months ago, I got an imp of Eternal in the mail. When I sniffed it in the imp and tested it, it smelled wonderful. It was light, fragrant, and lush. Then it dried and turned to Ivory soap. I tried Nyx, and it did the same thing, though it didn't smell as good in the imp. There's a bunch of random scents in Eternal, so it's hard for me to pinpoint what went wrong in there, so I was wondering if anyone has the same issue I have with white florals going soapy, and if they found anything that worked on them. Thank you

    Saturnalia

Ok, I can't do vetiver, I just need to deal with it. Basically, if you can wear a vetiver blend (and if you can, I'm envious) then ignore this post and give it a shot. I'm sure it will smell lovely on you. HOWEVER if you're like me and can't come near vetiver without it turning into a scary, dirty, bitter mess, avoid this scent. It'll just get your hopes down.

    Kiyohime Changes From a Serpent

Hmm, this is an interesting scent. Going on wet I get a fruity shampoo scent, it must be the plum and lychee. I'm usually not a fan of fruity scents, but this one isn't too bad. As it dries it softens into a delicate scent. The fruit aspect of the scent changes into more of a floral. I don't really get much aquatics from Kiyohime, it seems to be more of a fruit/floral scent. I really like it though. And the corresponding picture is so pretty!

    Rose Red

--Rose Red '05-- Going on my skin, Rose Red is green. GREEN. I can smell a wee bit of the petals, but it's mostly stem, leaves and sap on me. But slowly as it dries down, the rose appears. This has to be the most accurate scents I've ever smelled from a perfume. It's like a grabbed a rose and rubbed it energetically against my body. Sadly, I think I prefer more of a sweeter scent. I'll keep this around to slather on in the winter though, to remind me of the greenery of summer! Thanks again to Sarajane for letting me try this!

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?

I didn't find Victoria all that soapy, and my skin likes to turn things to soap, especially lilies. Have you tried Peacock Queen (while it's still up)? It's clean and straightforward, yet dark and not-cloying, and I'm marinating in it today. mmm. Hmm, I never thought of trying Peacock Queen. I'll have to give it a shot. I really want to try Victoria, but I'm sure it has more to do with reading Stardust way too many times. Hopefully it'll stay soap-free.

    Femme Fatale Scents

Black Lace always seemed to me to be a very femme fatale/film noir kind of scent. On me it's a smoky vanilla scent with a splash of booze. Very nice I'm so glad it came back!

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?

Thank you both for the recs I've been meaning to give Whip a try, but it always seemed too .. leathery lol. It wouldn't kill me to try an imp of it though. And I'm going to most likely buy Hope and Faith, it's too hard to hunt down decants of them. Victoria I'm still hesitant about; lilies have an unsettling habit of turning to soap on me. I also might buy Pink Snowballs and try to let it age, maybe the play-doh will disappear on me!

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?

Ever since I started buying BPAL, I've been on the lookout for that 'perfect' rose scent. Something sweet, nothing dark or too green. I've tried Maiden, Persephone and Kurukulla, and they all end up morphing into the same weird fruity-rose scent. Bleh. Then I tried Pink Snowballs, and it was PERFECT. For for like 30 seconds, until it turned to play-doh. Stupid skin chemistry. I'm thinking of hunting down a decant of Hope and Victoria, but if anyone has any suggestions of a scent ... that would be great. Thanks!

    Hod

Oh Hod, I thought we'd be so good together! With Hod, I was expecting a creamy, spicy carnation blend, and instead got a spicy and slightly metallic scent. It made my nose wrinkle, not what I was expecting. I've never tried a BPAL carnation before, so I don't know if my skin messes with it, or if it's this blend in particular. Oh well, just have to buy more scents!

    Copper Phoenix

Haha, yet another blend that I was convinced would work beautifully on me and ended up failing. I'm not a big fan of patchouli, but most of the time the BPAL blends it in scents so well that I hardly notice it. Not with Copper Phoenix though. Going on me, it went citrus, citrus, PATCHOULI. Eventually it faded down to an orange-tinged patchouli. Not really my thing. It seems like other people got something different than me, so maybe I'm just amping patchouli in this blend? /shrug

    Black Lace

Hmm, I can't quite make up my mind about Black Lace... Going on wet, it's very strong. Like a musky, slightly floral men's cologne. As it dries, it softens up slightly, but not enough to take away that edge. I could see a tall, elegant woman with dark hair and piercing eyes sweeping into a cocktail party slathering this on. I just wish that the vanilla that everyone keeps mentioning would pop her head up. I guess I could let this age for awhile and see what happens, but I don't think it will work between us Edit: I just need to freaking wait a day or two before I post about scents. This has grown on me so much!
