A few suggestions: Belle Epoque: this is a gorgeous GC that doesn't seem to get enough love. It is a warm scent; a rich orange-gold in my mind. Sudha Segara: a warm ginger Xanthe the Weeping Clown: Not as fruity as the notes make it sound Balancing the Sake Cup: a fairly recent LE; ginger and neroli Mermaid: an older Lilith perfume with tiare and gardenia but also has some vanilla and other notes; not that aquatic. So Below: Amber, coconut, musk, but kind of summery Some harder-to-find ones: Queen Mab Lace, some of the Snake Oil flankers (Banded Sea Snake, Dragon-Smooched Snake Oil, Snake's Kiss, Peach Brandy Snake Oil), Marae, Et Lux Fuit, Signoir Dildo, Oval Portrait.

Help me find the perfect October scent🍁

A couple other ideas: Fearful Pleasure (has some smoke, but not much), Winds of Autumn (I don't get a lot of apple in this one), Magnificient Autumn (no apple in this one). -
Help me find the perfect October scent🍁

Samhain! Although apple is not a dominant note for me. If you could tolerate amber, I would have suggested Liquid Gold is in the Air. Lamb's Wool is a great apple cider scent, too. Whiskey and Apple, maybe? -
As FeyoftheFellwood said above, Defutata is a serious reminder of why I should revisit the GC more often. This is a gorgeous olive blossom and vanilla scent. Somehow it transports me to another place, another world, reminiscent of something from my past. What a fantastic blend!

I have a bottle of this. It smells like a not-too-sweet cake (like a non-corny cornbread, if that makes any sense) with clove and a hint of nutmeg. I don't get any obvious honey notes. It's notably foodier and spicey with less honey than Amber Incense and Honey Cakes. It reminds me of All Souls Day, but I haven't smelled them side by side. Overall, it is a really nice scent, and pretty much exactly as I had expected. As someone who is somewhat of a fan of St. Hildegard, I believe this scent honors her spirit.

I like this a lot, and expect that most people will: it's a soft, feminine scent. Call me crazy, but it reminds me a lot of Antikythera Mechanism spiked with some florals and a little marshmallow. I suspect this will be a FB purchase for me.

This is AMAZING!!!!! I don't know what else to say. I've been collecting BPAL for 12 years now, and this one has just catapulted to one of my all-time favorites. Caveat: I haven't let the bottle rest, and I've only just tried it on. It's got an almost creamy, almost coconut-ey, almost marshmallow vibe to it. The weeds are soft and sweet. The cognac adds warmth and depth but not a lot of booze. The balsam is not pine-ey; it's more resiny and grounding. The vanilla is glorious. It reminds me a bit of Ivory Vulva, or Boo, or possibly even Glowing Vulva (although it has been many years since I wore that scent).

Invention, it must be humbly admitted, does not consist in creating out of void, but out of chaos. ― Mary Shelley, 1831 This Samhain, were reveling in the desecration of a classic blend: Damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, sweet red apple and mullein. I was the lucky recipient of #12. It starts out with a bit of orange and maybe a bit more of the the eucalyptus vibe I get from regular Samhain. I love it! With time, it morphs into the sweet, honey/apple-like scent of regular Samhain. I love it!!! My best Chaos Theory gamble ever!

We believe that the American dream is big enough for everyone, for people of all races and religions, for men and women, for immigrants, for LGBT people and for people with disabilities. For everyone. Lilith at the Women’s March DTLA, 2018. Nasty Woman? Nah, Nasty Tween: honeyed fig and sugar-dusted patchouli, sweet amber oud, a drop of red currant, and vanilla cream. I always blind-buy at least one Lilith each year. This year I immediately purchased "The dream is big enough for everyone" because I love the sentiment behind the scent (and the notes sounded gorgeous). It's fresh out of the mailbox, but I couldn't resist a quick test. I'll try to add to this review later. Wet: I can detect most of the notes except the vanilla cream. I mostly get honeyed fig with a tiny bit of patchouli. It's not particularly sweet, and fruitier than I expected. It's very pretty and quite powerful. As it dries, I get even more fruitiness with a bit more sweetness. It's making my mouth water!

This summer, Brian got married at the Mountain View Mausoleum. As a side benefit, the Barrials got to spend hours skulking around its beautiful, cavernous halls in the weeks leading up to the event. Lilith loves the vast quietness of the mausoleum almost as much as she enjoys playing tag in the cemetery, and wandered the halls doing impromptu math equations to figure out how old people were when they passed. I love this little cemetery creep with all my cobwebby heart. Marble-white musk, orris root, and vanilla blossom. Potent, sweet, narcotic, floral. I don't get a lot of vanilla, at least initially, nor is it overly powdery. It seems to be a close cousin of Pediophobia, although I should try them side-by-side to confirm. I like this, especially after about an hour or so.

JOYFUL MOON There was a time when meadow, grove, and stream, The earth, and every common sight, To me did seem Apparelled in celestial light, The glory and the freshness of a dream. It is not now as it hath been of yore;— Turn wheresoe'er I may, By night or day. The things which I have seen I now can see no more. The Rainbow comes and goes, And lovely is the Rose, The Moon doth with delight Look round her when the heavens are bare, Waters on a starry night Are beautiful and fair; The sunshine is a glorious birth; But yet I know, where'er I go, That there hath past away a glory from the earth. White musk, French vanilla, ambrette seed, frankgipani, angelica root, white rose, orris, and honeysuckle. I have been looking forward to trying this one as soon as I read the description- lots of notes in here that I like a lot! It is indeed a beautiful blend. I think in my mind it was going to smell a bit like Posset's Scent of Angels, and there is some similarity, but not much. The honeysuckle and rose are there, but balanced very well. The white musk is gentle and clean. I don't really detect the orris much. The vanilla is subtle and sweet. I love this! Wish I had purchased a backup bottle!

When I first put this on, it smells almost exactly like a Tootsie Roll: chocolate, sugar, and something vaguely fruity (maybe it's the lemon balm coming through; I tend to amp that note, or maybe it is the wood sorrel). It's potent. After the initial candy rush, I start to get a bit of the clove pink. It's a bit jarring at this stage: the floral, the fruit, the chocolate. But then it starts to settle into something beautiful and difficult to describe. There is still some sweet chocolate, but it's mellowed and blended with the marigold and some of the other things, I think. I don't really smell fennel, borage, rosemary, yarrow or rue, and I don't know what butterburr, self-heal, sweet cicely, or masterwort smell like. It's not "green" or overtly "herbally", but a comforting, almost clean scent. I'm not describing it very well, but it's really lovely. And it lasts and lasts! I'll have to try it again in a few weeks. I find the 13s tend to age really well.

DOOR She was dressed in a variety of clothes thrown over each other: odd clothes, dirty velvets, muddy lace, rips and holes through which other layers and styles could be seen. She looked, Richard thought, as if she’s done a midnight raid on the History of Fashion section of the Victoria and Albert Museum, and was still wearing everything she had taken. Her short hair was filthy, but looked like it might have been a dark reddish color under the dirt. Golden honey, nicotiana, blue chamomile, and cistus. I was thrilled to try this one, as I'm reading Neverwhere at the moment. I love Door in the book, and I love this scent! When wet it smells very floral: a green, spring-like floral, maybe a little like clover or sweet grass? As it dries, the honey really comes out, adding much warmth and depth and beauty, but without being cloying. It becomes more womanly and powerful, in an elegant, almost regal manner. It's amazing: this scent really captures Door to me: when I first meet her in the book, she seems young and almost child-like, but my perception of her is evolving I see her strength and maturity. I plan to slather myself with this oil as I finish reading Neverwhere today! Thank you Beth, for this amazing oil! It is going into my regular rotation!!!
-
I love this!!!
-
This is awesome! It's a warm, soft, dusty, cocoa (not chocolate, but cocoa) and dirt scent. There is an illusion of a hint of mint here, maybe from the tobacco. It's not too boozy; the bourbon cream just softens and rounds everything out.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
wendyb1063 replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
I do have decants of both Cathedral and The Magdalene; I will have to dig them out and retest them. It seems like Kit from OLLA might be a good match, but I have not tried that one. I think the benzoin is key. -
Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
wendyb1063 replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
I love those burning papers too! I really don't know of any BPALs that are a close match. Perhaps a layering of Like a Girl and Tombstone? or Antique Lace with Cedarwood, Vanilla Absolute and Tolu Balsam? :). I will have to do some experiments. There is one conventional perfume that is supposed to (and IMHO, really does) smell a lot like the papers: Mad et Len's Petit Papiers. In fact, I tried the perfume first and then sought out the papers because I liked the perfume so much. -
Golden Priapus is a lovely vanilla, amber, and pine blend that smells like Christmas to me. Also, Tintagel (which was sadly discontinued) had a great winter holiday vibe to it.
-
Wow, this is an intense and very interesting perfume, as I had hoped from the notes. Wet, I definitely get the musks and a clean but dark marine vibe. It's like laundry soap/dryer sheets on steroids!!! With a definite hint of danger lurking underneath. As it dries, it becomes more of a sweet aquatic. It's pleasant and not so intense but not quite my thing (I'm not into aquatics, as a rule). We'll see what happens later.

I've also started playing with homemade marshmallows and fruit candies. Any interest? Yes to all, especially the shortbreads and catnip toys! 9/22/20 Would you like any of Snag Tights’ Halloween offerings and if so, what size? I think I'm good for tights, especially now when I don't really go anywhere! Do you prefer getting one or two really nice/more expensive things or several smaller/less expensive little things? Or do you have no preference? Maybe several smaller items? But no strong preferences. Witchee, do you like tea? If so, what kind Yes, I love teas!!! I don't like sugar in my tea, but I don't mind and sometimes enjoy teas with sweet bits in them (dried fruit, etc.). I drink black, green, oolong, herbal, you name it! Witchee, do you want anything? Shirts, mugs, postcards from Anarchist Seattle, Portland, or New York.... https://www.redbubble.com/people/litlnemo/shop?artistUserName=litlnemo Would you be interested in a gently-used tarot deck (or other oracle)? Thin or thick? With or without fringe? Are you allergic to any fibers - wool, cashmere, angora, alpaca? Knitted washclothes would be wonderful. I really like them. My Mom used to make them for me, but since I lost her several years ago, I have not had the heart to actually use the ones I have remaining from her. A non-itchy scarf would be nice! I wear them for warmth and/or for their beauty. 9/20/20 How do you guys store your decants so they are not a confused mess? If you've got a system, please share it. I use bullet boxes, and try to keep a grid with the names on the inside of the lids. I'm a bit behind in this, however! 9/19/20 Lilith are up! Is there anything from the release that you want? What, and what store? Not that I am aware of. Would you be interested in some boozy chocolates (or anything else) from https://www.chocolatemoonshine.com/? The boozy ones look interesting! How about from https://twinklentwilight.etsy.com I really like the "Blinded me with Science" project bag! Are you a sock person? If so what are your favourite kinds to wear? Do you have a sockdreams wishlist? Definitely a sock person! I like soft, warm, thick, DURABLE socks but also need more socks for exercise. Crew socks /hiking socks are my preference. No toe socks!!! I'm more about comfort than "style", and most of my socks are black, grey, or navy blue. Men's socks are fine too! Would you enjoy anything from my friend Brian's Etsy shop? I can tell he is very talented, but it's not really my style. If you're not near one, is there anything from Trader Joe's you'd like? I live near one. Anything from these places catch your fancy? https://cantripcandles.com/collections (restocks Friday 9/18 at 9:00 PST). The Blackhound Tavern candle looks AMAZING!!! https://miruscandles.com/collections. These look cool, but I have a hard time guessing what they would smell like. https://briarwickcandles.com/collections. Some of the Autumn edition look nice. 9/15 Herb'n Eden...anything look good? Maybe the Vanilla Mint Coffee soap, but TBH, Paintbox Soapworks and Haus of Gloi products have more appeal to me. Would you like anything from House of Gloi, especially from their Autumn Update? I love HoG stuff. I'd really like to try any of their products in Ghost Puffs (and I think they had a Toasted Ghost Puffs, but it might be gone now). Olde Cider Haus sounds nice too. I know the tea question has been asked, but what, specifically, about Adagio teas? I'd love to try Kentucky Bourbon tea! The Flavors Sampler might be good to try as well. What about anything tempting from Dandelion Chocolate? The cocktail bitters all sound amazing!!!! Do you decorate seasonally/for holidays? Is there anything in particular you would like to that end? I do indeed, and I go all out. I really like both Halloween and Christmas decorations with a vintage feel, for example, (but not necessarily), this. I also like cute little pumpkins. Is this something you would be interested of for your pet(s)? You know, this sounds nice, but I don't think it is something I would really love as much as I should. 9/14 Anything you'd like from Future Primitive: https://futureprimitivesoap.co.uk : Dark Carnival sounds wonderful! So does Milk Wood. I'd love to try many of their products. Do you have an Etsy wishlist? I do! I'll have to update it a bit. https://www.etsy.com/people/wbedale?ref=hdr-fav&tab=items 9/13 Do you need any astrological work done, since thats one of my professions? Any particular areas you could utilize a consultation? Having never had one, I'm not sure... How do you feel about the homemade fudge I sell in my etsy shop? (See link to my shop in my signature) -particular preferences, flavors (consider I take special flavor requests all the time!)? A small amount of a good basic fudge or maybe a pumpkin fudge would be tasty. How do you feel about keto or sugar-free, low carb baked goods or treats?? Its how I live, so Im pretty damn good at it. I would be ok with these, but I'm not afraid of carbs either. is there anything you want from Lush? I love all things Lush. I could use another shampoo bar. Do you have a favorite art style/movement/artist? I like Grant Wood, Marvin Cone, and other 20th-century American artists. I like folk artists like Debbie Criswell or Billy Jacobs. You can see a small sample of things l like here. Who is your fashion icon(s)? I'm sad to say I don't have a very sophisticated sense of fashion. However, I get the Gudron Sjoden catalogs (I LOVE her stuff but it's pricey). I like bright colors and comfort. What is your favorite mythological creature? I like the idea of some of the old goddesses like Freya and Boann. I do pour painting/acrylic fluid art (with varying degrees of success, haha). Would you like a custom piece in colors of your choice (takes 3-4 weeks with curing, longer if you want it sealed, so it would arrive post-round if custom) or a piece already finished in my collection? I have mostly 12 x 12 and 10 x 10s right now. Pics available upon request! I would love to see these! After enjoying looking at the links several others have put in the questions, I decided to add some of my own favorite independent artists who I enjoy supporting - so, what do you think of the goodies from these people? And specific items you love? Enjoy! 1) https://www.catcoven.com/ - 2) https://www.mineralgypsy.com - 3) https://www.redbubble.com/people/thelatestkate/shop 4) https://www.marikapaz.com/shop/ 5) https://www.faunwood.com - 6) https://www.shannatrumbly.com/ 7) https://fiddlersgreenzine.com - 8 ) https://www.hedgespokenpress.com One of the things I do is make nifty things from sweaters that I cut up & upcycle into things like super warm mittens, arm warmers, striped arm warmers, cowls, teapot cozies, & French press cozies. I don't have a slipper I love yet, but I'm working on it. So, which of these things might you like? Give me some thoughts on colors you like & if for a teapot or press, I need to know a size. Mittens or cowls would be great! I enjoy historical reproductions and am a fan of LBCC Historical Apothecary. Is there something in her store you might be interested in? Ooo, some cool things here! I would be very interested in the Turkish Rouge or the Rice Face Powder. 9/12/2020 Does anyone like the prints or items from www.ElissaMarieCreative.com ? I have a few of her prints and the notebooks and they are quality! The notebooks look nice! I like the Magical Rosemary with the dot grid in particular. What about www.drawingsbynicole.com? Anything specific? I like the strawberry and the daisy face masks! Does anything from www.vapidlacquer.com stick out to you? I'd be interested in some of their bath/body products in the Continuity scent, perhaps. 9/11/20 How do you feel about fragrant things for the home like incense, candles, atmosphere spray? I love all of these things, especially incense and candles. Fall-ish scents are nice for candles; for incense, I tend to like the more subtle scents. Do you share your home with any loved ones (human, feline, canine, etc.) who might enjoy a tiny treat too? My DH is very supportive of my SW participation. He will be starting to grow his annual beard soon. He will sometimes wear a bit of a BPAL in the more masculine scents. We have two dogs (big, outside dogs) and one inside cat. Elsie the cat enjoys toys. The puppies like healthy treats. How do you feel about tea? Preferences? Would you want anything from David's Tea (https://www.davidstea.com/us_en/home/), Steepologie (https://www.steepologie.com/), Bird & Blend (https://birdandblendtea.com/us_en/), or do you have a favorite tea maker to suggest? What about tea tools or cups? I adore tea!!! I basically like most tea: black, oolong, green, herbal, loose, bags, etc. I don't generally like sweetened tea, though. I think I have enough tea tools. The glass double-walled nordic tea mug with lid is pretty cool! I've never tried matcha, and I'm curious about that. 9/9/20 would anybody like a small cross stitch thing, like a patch or pin? or cross stitching notions like handmade needle minders? Sure! I used to do a lot of cross stitching, and I might start up again. 9/8/20 Art and artists - anyone dig any of this? https://www.studiodesade.com/ (They also do masks, see here.) They are very nice, although maybe not my usual style. Some of the masks I would wear though! If you knit/crochet/weave, would you like custom dyed yarn? And if so do you have preference on weight, fiber, colors? I have not crocheted in a long time, and I was never very good at it, but if I had some nice pretty yarn I might start up again! what is one fun/frivolous thing for $20 or less that you’d enjoy? Some cute Halloween tchochtke If I sent you to a dollar store with $20, what would you walk out with? A kitchen gadget, a weird flavor of candy corn, and a box of enameled binder clips 9/5/20 what are your feelings on home made/ home canned jams & pickles or syrups? I even make things with berries I grow in my garden. I make both brandied & bourbon cherries. Syrups good for cocktails, in lemonade or tea, flavors include Lavender, Lavender + Lemon, & Lavender + Vanilla. These all sound fantastic!!! Is there something that you're especially hoping to receive for this round? For example, a brand you've heard of that you're especially wanting to try, or a certain "thing" that you really want but just cant bring yourself to buy for yourself?? Not really: part of the fun for me in doing Switch Witch is learning about/meeting new friends and finding out about things I’ve never heard of before. Would you rather receive supplies/tools for your own craft/hobby or receive something you can't make yourself? Either is good! Is there anything you'd like from Penzeys (https://www.penzeys.com/)? I live close to a Penzeys and already have MASSIVE amounts of their products in every spare niche of my kitchen. So I’m good! 9/3/20 Would you like anything from here? https://www.etsy.com/shop/TaterRoundsBeauty Sure! The Halloween perfumes look interesting and the candles too! 9/2/20 Would you like a face mask from one of my favorite artists? https://akumuink.com/collections/facemasks I love the Jack’o Lantern smile one! one of our fellow BPAL friends makes custom masks, Hakutaku Custom Masks on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/HakutakuMasks/ ). Would anyone be interested in one of her masks? These are gorgeous! I would love one of these. 9/1/20 are you familiar with https://www.a-natural-alternative.com/ ? Take a peak & let me know if you might like to try something. Maybe some of the soaps? 8/30/20 Is there anything you want from Japan? Current kit kat flavors are... Salty Lemon, Salty Lychee, Sweet Potato, Chestnut and possibly still some Cookies and Cream Ice Cream or Strawberry Ice Cream from summer. Other than that, anime goods, cute stationery, other Japanese snacks, lay it on me! I’d love to try some of those odd Kit Ka flavors! Maybe not the salty lychee, though… What are your favorite self-care items or activities? I'm especially curious about things that you hesitate to do/get because they feel like frivolous luxuries. I love lighting candles, burning incense, taking long baths. 8/29/20 Does anything from Paintbox Soapworks catch your eye (http://paintboxsoapworks.com/)? I love their products. ANYTHING in Cathedral of Pumpkins, Hex on the Beach, Putney Road, or Demeter, Forsaken! YES! Does anything from the Trading Post's etsy page catch your eye (https://www.etsy.com/shop/bptradingpost)? The Honey Maple Hot Toddy Hair Gloss looks great! Is there anything you'd like from the UK? I do adore good, strong, black teas and chocolate covered Hob Nobs. Do you have a particular fandom you'd like stuff from? I think not.

Every leaf tells a story. This is probably my favorite Dead Leaves scent ever. At first it's heavy on the classic dead leaves, with a hint of incense. As it dries, I get more of the incense, then just a wisp of dusty vanilla. Gorgeous!

In night when colors all to black are cast, Distinction lost, or gone down with the light; The eye a watch to inward senses placed, Not seeing, yet still having powers of sight, Gives vain alarums to the inward sense, Where fear stirred up with witty tyranny, Confounds all powers, and thorough self-offense, Doth forge and raise impossibility: Such as in thick depriving darknesses, Proper reflections of the error be, And images of self-confusednesses, Which hurt imaginations only see; And from this nothing seen, tells news of devils, Which but expressions be of inward evils. – Lord Brooke Fulke Greville Ink-black musk and dried blackberries, midnight opoponax and sweet labdanum. The dark sweetness of these notes called to me strongly before I ordered it. Upon initial application, the dried blackberries seemed to give this scent a sour funk, and I was worried. After a few minutes, however, that dissipated, and I was left with a dark, fruity blend with a grounding of dark incense. It's not foody or overly sweet, and the musk is not powdery. It's got some punch, too: I could still smell it on my wrist after exercise and a shower. I can see myself getting addicted to this one. I think this is going to age remarkably.
-
This is really lovely. Sweet honey dust and a non-sour cream note open this perfume: it's cuddly, clean, and warm, reminiscent of Stinky but more refined and less baby-powdery. This would be a great daytime scent or a great sleep scent, IMHO.
-
It's been a long time since I've been the first to review a scent! This is exactly far better than I expected, much better! And my expectations were high. I love bananas. I eat them every day. I have a small collection of banana scents from various sources. This one is really special. It's banana-ey at first, yes, that's a given. But the amber, the tonka, the sugar cane, give it is lovely, sweet, rich, vanilla-like base. The fig and guava give it just a hint of non-banana fruitiness, while the ylang-ylang adds a subtle creaminess. I am really pleased that I blind-bottled this one!

A quiet moment between a father and his daughter. We might be related. A splash of Tombstone, red velvet musk, and a red licorice whip. This is a lovely fragrance, although not exactly what I expected. I've let it rest for a few days before I posted my thoughts here. I don't really get a lot of Tombstone from this. I do get a certain woody sweetness underlying the scent, but it really doesn't smell at all like Tombstone to me when I sniff them side by side, nor does it have the throw of Tombstone. I was expecting the over-the-top vanilla sweetness in my 8-year old bottle of Tombstone. As it dries, more of the almost root beer sweetness of Tombstone does come out. I do get a bit of the red licorice whips: a tiny touch of anise and a generic red fruit, probably more cherry than strawberry but not prominent. The red velvet musk is not something that red musk haters need to fear, IMHO. I almost get a hint of patchouli? This one is going to age spectacularly, I believe.
