    No. 93 Engine

I wasn't sure about this one at first as it smelled strongly of a woodshop: shavings, gears, and polish. I liked it, but couldn't see wearing it very often. Then I left it on for a while and decided I needed a bottle! No. 93 Engine is a really comforting scent. The wood shavings retreat to the background and incense comes out, mixed with furniture wax and oils. Reminds me of what a really clean mechanic would smell like. I agree with the poster above who mentioned that there is a sweetness reminiscent of cola. (As a side note, layered with Tinagel it smells like spiced cookies)
  2. Thanks for the suggestions, I did look through the thread, but the last time it was asked about was Jan '09 and there were no good matches. Both Manila and House of Night are definite nos for me because of the florals. Another thought, as I see someone else asked about Grass recently. Last time I was buying Jungle, the salesgirl said I should try Grass because it "smelled just like Jungle." Now, I didn't buy any because I don't like shower gels and I can't smell anything in the Lush store due to scent overload, but the ingredients listed on the Lush site for them don't seem that similar. Do any of you find them to be similar? Does anyone know what the note of Lush's Ninja scent are (the web says that is he scent in Grass).
  3. Interesting, I hadn't noticed vetiver. I just get greenery and fruit. Vetiver is iffy on me. I like it in Anathema, Voodoo, and Black Annis. Neutral on it in Bloodlust, Scales of Deprivation, and Blood Kiss. And find it repulsive in Bluebeard. But none of those remind me of Jungle at all.
  4. It's been almost 2 years since it was asked, so I'm hoping there is a better answer now. Any matches for Jungle solid conditioner? It was the only scented thing I was wearing yesterday and my husband said I smelled "really good." This from I guy who generally says things like, "you need to test that perfume shit in the bathroom with the fan on so the whole apartment doesn't reek" and recoils in horror when I bring a bag from Lush home. Finding a scent he actually compliments, not just tolerates is huge. Most of the BPAL I have found that is "green" or "grassy" is also floral. That is bad. Particularly "spring florals" as I am allergic to almost everything that grows from a bulb (paperwhites, narcissus, hyacinth in particular) and he is allergic to lilies. Although they don't provoke allergies, I also really dislike jasmine, magnolia, gardenia, carnation, lilac, and lotus. Rose is just about the only floral I like. I have tried "Two, Five and Seven" (roses and grass) but everyone agrees it smells like bubble gum on me. Although Lush doesn't list the notes for the perfume in Jungle (I assume this is where the grassy scent comes from) the other listed ingredients that would contribute to the smell are: figs, banana, passion fruit, kumquat, kiwi, ylang ylang, cypress, and sandalwood.

    Calaveras

In the bottle, this is all butter and booze - the same fake butter that Jack and Snap-Dragon-Fly have when first applied. When it touches my skin, the vanilla comes out and stays out. Reminds be of the vanilla in TKO, but cooked and thick like a crème brulé. The chocolate deepens it, but never draws attention to itself. The jalapeños are very faint, just a light spice. If you told me it was cinnamon, I would believe you. The tequila never made an appearance again after being so strong in the bottle (booze notes usually work for me). Although I can detect a light incense note on my clothes from last night, it is not noticeable on my skin. Which brings me to wear length. I put it on last night before going out - almost 14 hours ago - and it is still pretty strong this morning. It also has a pretty big throw. I applied lightly and it was commented on from about 8 feet away.

    The Spanish Dance

In the bottle, this smells exactly like Tootsie Rolls. As soon as it hits my skin, the scent disappears. I can hardly smell anything. Pomegranate (Pomona, Fruit of Paradise, etc.) does this on me: disappears in a puff of nothing, taking the rest of the blend with it. After about 10 minutes, something comes back, like strong black tea with honey. Then the bitter dark chocolate shows itself and a bit of the pomegranate, giving the impression of dark chocolates with red jam centers. After an hour or so, it is just faint honey and a bit of chocolate to deepen it, although I get faint wisps of cherry cough medicine from where it got on my shirt. It's been about 4 hours, and I can barely smell anything at all. *sigh*

    Sugar Plum Fairy

The melon scent never went away for me, just turned to sour, powdery ick. It the bottle it had an interesting cool sweetness. Reminded me a bit of March Hare, actually. But where MH went cloying and too sweet, SPF went powdery. And there is a weird floral cologne in the background making it sour and unpleasant. Just did an internet search, and Tiare is a type of Gardenia. Probably should have looked that up before ordering. I hate gardenia, that's most likely the icky floral I am getting.

    Nut Crack Night Atmosphere Spray

This was a bit too sweet and foody for me. It reminds me strongly of the syrupy qualities of Miskatonic University and Pumpkin I 2009. I love both those scents and would have thought a room spray that was like them would be just my thing. However, just as I am discovering that there are things I like the taste of that I just don't want to smell like, I am finding there are things I want to smell like, but don't work as room scents for me. Nut Crack night smelled like nut-flavoured syrup for coffee. Just a bit too fake and sugary for me.

    Mr. Ibis

Finally, a BPAL with Egyptian Musk that smells like Egyptian Musk!! Not to say this is a single note, there is a complexity here. More subtle and lighter than EM single notes I've worn. When wet there is the barest hint of a masculine cologne smell, but that fades quickly. This is my favorite scent to wear in hot weather. It smells like clean, freshly showered skin. The throw is minimal: I can smell it easily, but other people have to be inches away to comment. It has a *very* long wear. If I put it on in the morning, I can still smell traces of it the next morning before I shower. I really can't say enough nice things about Mr. Ibis.

    Bijoux Y'ha-nthlei

This is very light on me and more floral than I usually wear. It fades quickly to a barely detectable generic floral scent.

    Olisbos

This is really bitter on my skin. I think leather just doesn't agree with me. It's hard to comment on specifics, because the bitter smell is overpowering everything else.

    The Steeple

Otherworldly fungus, Provençal herbs, and dark, shadowy woods. Definitely dark and a bit herby. There is a decay that is both sweet and musty. On longer wear, I find it annoying and headache inducing. Although the deep murky water smell is interesting, it's not something i will wear again.

    Saint Foutin de Varailles

This reminds me of a innocent little sister of Zadok Allen Vinyard. Very similar notes are there, but it is young and sweet, not grownup and sexy. Overall, it smells like a berry candle to me.

    The Zadok Allen Vineyard

As soon as I opened the bottle I was in love Zadok Allen Vinyard is dark and sweet and totally sexy. It smells like dark juicy wine and spicy incense soaking into the floorboards after decades of parties. Very rich, decadent, and sultry. Similar to some berry scents, but more grown up. My husband describes it as "womanly." This has a long wear on me and a big throw. I couldn't really wear it this summer as the scent was too strong in the heat, but it is getting a lot more use now that the weather has turned cold again. My husband has said he could "taste it" from across the room when I was putting it on, but that he liked it.

    Fast food/carnival food-ish scents?

There are a couple of Atomic Luau scents you might like to try. As a bonus, they are GC, so are easily available in both imp and bottle form. Polynesian Pop - Ginger ale, white rum, and a squeeze of orange - reminds me of the sticky remains at the bottom of a can of ginger ale. Blue Fire - Papaya, blueberry, lemongrass, and gin - this one actually has an effervescent quality. I can smell the bubbles popping, it's weird, but good! It reminds me a carbonated tropical fruit salad. I personally prefer Blue Fire, as it is a stronger scent on my skin.

When your favorite GC blends are discontinued

Although there aren't any specific notes listed, I think Block Buster smells like a less sweet, more subtle version of March Hare.

    Bess

Bess is more traditionally perfume-y than I usually go for, but it is a classic, non-floral perfume that I actually quite like. The grape in this is strong and true, nicely complimenting the rose. The grape is not candy-like or childish at all to me, but more straight up concord grapes.

    Jack

The sickly fake butter smell that is so strong in the bottle fades on skin contact. Wet this is a very nice pumpkin scent with the different sweetness of the peach adding depth. As it dries the peach becomes the main note. I liked this at first, but after longer wear it is too peachy, not pumpkin-y enough for me.
  19. Altaira

    Polynesian Pop

Slightly coconuty, actualy. While wet there is a bit of a celery note; when dry the ginger ale comes out more. Never any rum or orange for me. A bit of a waxy smell, like a candle. A warm, sweet, light smell - like the sticky remains of a soda can.

    Pahoehoe

In the bottle the rum is very strong and overpowering. On the skin the bananas come out. But I don't smell fresh bananas, I smell gooey caramelized bananas. It smells like an expensive dessert with cooked bananas and a rum flambé. Delicious. ETA: Bananas Foster is the dessert I was thinking of.

    Blue Fire

This is effervescent. Not really of course, but it smells like a drink made of Sprite soda and fruit salad popping right under my nose. The gin adds a nice additional brightness. A very happy scent.

    Embalming Fluid

At first, I liked this a lot; very clean and lemony. I was even considering buying a bottle. But then I left it on a bit longer and found that it was triggering a headache. I think *all* tea scents give me a headache actually. Which is a shame, because I do like how they smell.

    Forbidden Fruit

Very floral. I got an instant headache and needed to scrub off.

    Seraglio

I have sadly come to realize that almond scents just don't work on me. I thought the florals would be an issue with this one, but I didn't have a reaction to them at all. The almond, on the other hand, made everything smell bitter and sour.

    Golden Priapus

Nice, but too masculine for me. Pine is in the foreground with softer woods rounding out the scent.
