In the bottle (well imp): berry vinegar Wet: drunken perfume Dry: perfume (or what I always thought perfume should smell like) a classic, complex, feminine in an adult fashion. This is a perfume I could imagine an classic era Hollywood actress wearing (Myrna Loy, perhaps?). I'm not sure it is very me, I like the touch of sophistication though. I also think it is more of a daytime or a sophisticated evening scent then a night-out-looking-for-danger siren scent. It isn't my true love or anything but I think I just might get a bottle of this. Second Try : Overly fruity and sweet with a hint of cocoa, same imp. Blahh

baby oil bit of spice, and another floral smell worth an imp but not a bottle
-
At First: Almond extract, grains yes barley maybe oatmeal. Later: Almond calms down and it is now oatmeal with almond.
-
Wet: astringent sharp with wood almost out of reach Dry: smoky, overpoweringly so, a hint musk I think (I'm still learning to pick out notes), then the tang comes in to play but still no sweetness spice or complexity to it Conclusion: So far I am disappointed but I'll try to remember to give it another chance at a different time since my skin chemistry varies a bit.

It reminds me of an orange-cicle mixed with something I can't place and then it turns bad. I'm not sure how to describe what the scent changed to but I didn't particularly like it.
-
wet: clove & sandalwood 1/2 way point: clove gets a bit strong/dominating then disappears, the sandalwood disappears dry: soda pop, cherry coke
-
fruity bubblegum under just a little spice transforms into a candle shop Sweet and reminds me of stores at Christmas, did I mention I'm not big on the smells of stores at Christmas? much later sharp sour much later rather nice, pity it took so long light sweet incense smell There is a bit of incense in the background but more like potpourri than anything else, mostly it is very very sweet. Definitely not something I like, at least not on my skin. Not what I would have expected from the name and description, sigh.

The Goddess of Persuasion, Seduction and Sexual Wiles. A member of Aphrodite’s retinue, she is also Aphrodite’s daughter and sister to Tyche and Eunomia. Lusty myrtle and jasmine with red sandalwood, stargazer lily, and clove over an opulent, rich bed of warm musk and bourbon vanilla. Mmmm, complex beatiful scent, totally worth the mild allergy. A bit sharp on the dry down though Second round - not very good at first, a little chemically slightly bitter - a while later it's nicer if a little powdery, not as complex as I remember
-
I was afraid it would go vinegary or something but it went the side of super sweet blackberry jam or sauce. Not very herby or woodsy on me. Damn I'm hungry now, exactly why I don't go in much for foody scents. On second thoughts I might try layering it with something at some point to make it more complex and less foody.

In the bottle: sweet, floral, very tropical - lovely, yummy wet on skin: floral a little citrus dry: I smell floral soap, not in a totally bad way, but not the lovely tropical vacation sniffing the imp offers After a while the soap part dissipates much later: flowers dipped in sugar (too bad it is such a long wait) However my BF said it is very floral, sweet, but with no soapiness detected by his nose. He didn't like it very much because it was too "musky." I wanted to use this in an oil warmer for when I want to feel transported to a tropical paradise full of flowers and wonderful fruits. That didn't go very well, it was like I'd bathed the whole apartment with floral soap, emphasis on the soap. After I opened the windows I decided that for me Hermia is destined to remain in the imp from whence it came. At least I can still be transported when I put the vial under my nose.

but if I drink it, then I may stop caring

Updated 5/19/2010 So far I know I want a bottle (or more) of Snake Oil, a partial or bottle of Josie, a partial or imp of Sol Invictus. And so many things I still have to try! Want to TRY: -Inez "Golden amber, vanilla musk, myrrh, cedar, carnation, and red sandalwood." -Bordello "Bawdy plum with amaretto, burgundy wine and black currant." -Bakeneko "Warm amber musk, Satsuma tangerine, black tea leaf, cardamom, cherry blossom and cinnamon." -Vechernyaya "Three white musks with poppy and patchouli." -Event Horizon "A disconcerting scent, heavy and oppressive, through which no light, no matter, and no spirit can escape. Black opium, labdanum, opoponax, black orchid, and benzoin." -Shattered, Bewitching Brews A blend of white champagne notes, grapefruit, lotus, slivered mint and crystalline aquatic blooms - Thalia, Excolo Plumeria, pear and white champagne. - How Doth the Little Crocodile?, Moral Hymnody and Nonsense Chocolate peppermint, mint-soaked vanilla, pistachio, oakmoss, and green cedar. - out of pure curiosity -Sacred Whore of Babylon "A sweet floral over vanilla and cinnamon." -Hunger Ars Amatoria Black narcissus, orange blossoms, and vanilla. -Ozymandias - often compared with Chanel No. 5 (not that I like Chanel No. 5) -Rapture? Moroccan rose, Sumatran rose, mandarin, Egyptian myrrh, night-blooming jasmine, bergamot and neroli thrust into Arabian musk. -Pepper Wild English roses, French gardenia, vanilla, honey, golden ginger, blood orange, pine resin, pink pepper, crushed berries, tuberose, bergamot, and geranium. -Smut (second try? I don't think I skin tested) - Euphrosyne Gardenia, jasmine, tea rose, and vanilla

I have a cold and despite all the conjestion my nose is hyper sensitive right now. I walk in to the bathroom and I can smell all the soaps, shampoos, conditioner, lotions, etc. Everything seems sooo strong right now.

I haven't put this on me yet, but I put some on the fiancé: In the Bottle: sharp, strong, wood & herbs Wet: spicy musk?, and citrusy then musky soap Dry: first an ivory type soap, then settled as a fancy sweet and spicy lavender-ish soap Definitely not what I want my man smelling like. Given what it came out like on him, I'm very curious what it will be on my skin.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
FelicityTwitchell replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
Yes, two of the lunar blends have given me sinus pressure and from one a headache. It seems my skin eventually amps Dragon's Blood and then once it has come out the sinus pressure starts in. Of course it could be the combination of DB with something else, but I don't think so. I used to have some DB incense that gave me a headache too. -
Me and Dragon's Blood do not like each other. I seem to be allergic, as in nasal allergies, luckily no skin reaction. It smells sharp and strong to me, it eventually comes out even if it was a back note and becomes strong. Although my skin likes to pull out a lot of notes one at a time (apparently), humph.

bottle: clove, cinnamon, and ? wet: cinnamon - like the powdered stuff, maybe a hint of vanilla dry: musky cinnamon, very slight hint of clove, warm and sweet, my impression was it is way too cinnamony. If a sniff really really hard I can pick up a smoky wood scent in the back somewhere but its too faint to enjoy, (reminds my fiancé of Nag Champa?!?, second sniff a few minutes later he also said it got sweeter and it was too strong) sometime later: smoky wood (cedar?) with a bit of sweetness, still a little cinnamon, on me this one just changes from one note dominating to another Oddness of skin note: on the left arm it is softer and a little bit blended but still not very "me" I went to bed and the DB came out to play with my sinuses, "we were not amused."
-
In the Bottle: lemony and very sweet Wet: ? didn't quite catch what this smells like wet, but I'm not putting it on again to find out. Dry: a over ripe lemon-pineapple? fruity, very sweet a hint of tart, weird not yummy, I'm more nauseous than hungry Note: it lasted (despite various attempts at scrubbing) for quite some time
-
Red Moon In the Bottle: rather nice actually, call me crazy but to me there is a hint of root beer, must be the "light spiciness" mentioned by others Wet: cinnamon candy w/ very little orange and something else? Dry: Dragons Blood soap, maybe a lil astringent, the DB is really strong, overpowering, also seems to cause sneezing, and sinus pressure
-
Trying out my new bottle of wolf moon, I tried some recently at a Mett 'N Sniff. Seems spicier on me than I remember, might need to dry more I'm just starting to pick out the sandalwood. Mmmm sweet sandalwood, it's turning a little bit smoky but just in the background, ya its getting there now. Then: Slightly sweet, spicy wood and a bit smoky. Actually it's smokier than I remember, I'll have to try it again later in the month. By evening it was almost completely sweet. Different day, Same Week: put it on again and it went funky on me, ended up smelling like sweat, I mean really bad b.o.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Well, what does it smell like to you? I'm to new at this to describe things unfortunately. Plus the bottle seems lost at present. -

I absolutely love Ralph Lauren's Romance for Men on my significant other. Any ideas? It is described as "blend of velvety woods, lavish florals and seductive, alluring musk." Top notes are: orange, ginseng, ginger, black currant, pistachio leaf, lavender and mandarin orange Middle notes are: lily, celery, basil, saffron, rose, geranium and cardamom Base notes are: pine tree, patchouli, musk, oakmoss and vetiver -

I happened upon a post called "A Short Guide to Common Recommendations, with direct links." According to the comparison list I should try Black forest. Which is useful since I couldn't find the notes listed for Wolf Moon. I haven't gotten very far with notes yet. I like sandal wood, I'm not big on cedar but cedar's scent gets big on me. I like Queen Mab a lot, although the SO said it smells "erotic" so I guess I'll have to use with caution, lol. I seem to like golden amber (given the list below). Someday I will find an apricot to rival Sally Hansen's cuticle softener. Unfortunately it was not March Hare, which I found to be pleasant yet very "eh." ?Black Forrest: viscous pine with ambergris, black musk, juniper and cypress (many mention the pine is too strong on them, hmmm) Queen Mab: black orchid, sandalwood, night-blooming jasmine, osmanthus, Somalian rose, and Chinese musk. Josie: honey and peaches, the magnolia Sol Invictus: golden amber, saffron, heliotrope, hibiscus, citron, frangipani, frankincense, tangerine, mock orange, and orange blossom Hermia: Pink pepper, golden amber, honeysuckle, and passion flower.
