BPAL for Costume Parties, Halloween Costumes
stitchpirate replied to chin's topic in Recommendations
I'm being Roxie Richter from Scott Pilgrim vs the World for Halloween. Any suggestions? -
Wet, I got a lot of cake, and a little tea. As it dries, it's mostly cucumber with tea. I like it, it's foody but still a very clean smell without being soapy (I hate when a scent goes soapy!). I'd like it more if it was more like cake, but it's still very nice.

Musk, with a sharp pop of something else. I think it's citrus, maybe lime. Also has something of a herbal quality. This is kind of interesting, very unusual. I don't know how it suits me though, I'll have to test it again. I am thinking I might end up buying a bottle. Edit: NO. A little while after I wrote this initial post, it went terribly, terribly wrong. I don't know what it smells like, but musty, mildewy, dusty basement mixed with rubber tires is pretty close. Really gross, definitely not buying a bottle.

This one smells like chalky candy on me. I'm normally a fan of sweet scents, but this one isn't doing it for me, it smells too dusty/powdery. It's like a candy in the Necco/Smarties (the American ones)/Fun Dip family. Artificial sweet flavoring and dust. It's kind of cool, and smells a lot like what I imagined based on the name, but I don't think it's for me.

Very sweet and lemony, like really good lemonade. I like it, but I have a lemony scent I like better so I don't think I'm going to get a bottle, but I will keep and enjoy my imp.

Recs for Role-Playing Games (RPG), LARP and Cosplay
stitchpirate replied to StormtrooperPrincess's topic in Recommendations
I have the same problem with those types of scents (everything goes really overpowering and it seems my least favorite note works its way to the top), though I find in general my skin is really finicky. I did. I made the hat with a buckram form and leftover fabric from the dress. (I wanted to make the buckram form, too, because the one i found locally was slightly off, but I ran out of time!) Here's a good site for hat forms, you would probably want the small pillbox. (Here's my finished costume: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3175/299454..._51a13745b7.jpg . Wish I didn't rush making it, that extra button where the flap starts is driving me nuts!) It randomly popped in my head while I was at work today, O could be really nice for Dr. Girlfriend too, it has vanilla, honey, and amber. -

I was Dr. Girlfriend for Halloween last year, she is ridiculously fun to portray! I think "Liz" would be perfect for Dr. Girlfriend. (Unfortunately it doesn't work very well on me... Ugh.) Mostly vanilla and floral, but also leather and smoke. However, given her fashion choice, I could see her wearing a really classic fashionable perfume, like Chanel No 5, so something similar in the BPAL collection like Ozymandias might be a good choice. -
Velvet Clown is very interesting. I don't mean that in a bad way. But it is a very odd collection of notes, and I have a feeling that you either love it or you hate it. Personally, I really like it. It goes on VERY boozy. I read the reviews here and really didn't believe how much. Think about how boozy you think it smells. Have an idea? Okay, triple that. It's a little weird. I don't like it straight out of the bottle. I's like some sort of cherry cough syrup, with cherry tobacco. But once it dries, it's really fantastic. Primarily, it's candy sweet (I definitely get a little of all of the candies in the description; cotton candy, licorice, marshmallows). There's a faint "other" kind of sweetness, almost floral but not: the greasepaint. A light haze of tobacco and smoke. It's really cool. Maybe I like it because of past associations; my father, godfather, and a lot of family friends were circus performers. Just add leather, dust, popcorn, and musk; it would be a circus back lot in a bottle.

I'm going through as many BPAL leather perfumes as I can, I love BPAL's leather note, but I've been having a hard time finding something that I like the other notes in as well. This is no exception. The leather is very strong and very nice, new, fresh leather (not old worn leather, which is nice, but that's not what this is). But something goes wrong on me. I get leather with cheap lavender soap. Like dollar store hand soap. It could be the vetiver? The leather note is lovely, but the soapy part sticks around even as the leather fades. I don't like it.

Vice was my first BPAL order (I got a handful of imps from a friend, and fell in love with Vice, I went through the imp in a week!). I got all chocolate cherry cordial, with not much (if any) orange. I love foody scents, and this one was perfect. But that was almost two years ago, and now either my bottle has changed, or my skin chemistry has changed, and it goes very powdery very quickly, and the orange is much more prominent.

I have very weird skin chemistry, and it seems like nothing smells on me quite like how it's supposed to. Except Cake Smash. I get wonderful, mouth watering, red velvet cupcakes. There's a very faint powdery edge after I've had it on a few hours, it's like the cupcakes turned into dry boxed cake mix, but it's very faint (a lot of scents go very powdery on me). Even so, it's really awesome.

Tezccatlipoca is awesome. I get mostly cocoa, with a bit of a kick (I guess that's the incense or patchouli) for the first few hours. Towards the end, those fade a bit, and I think the floral element comes through, but it's not very floral or particularly strong. I hate florals, and it comes off as more of a general "clean" smell. I like it a lot. I don't get the leather at all, but if I did, I think I'd like that also. The only mainstream perfume I wear regularly is Pink Sugar, and while this isn't really similar, it has a lot of elements in common with it, and I think someone who likes one would like the other. My two favorite perfume categories are foody/sweet smells and masculine leather/tobacco smells, and I never thought I'd find one that combines both so well! It's really wonderful; I think my only complaint is that it doesn't have much throw on me.

I feel like I have a completely different Liz than everyone else is describing. I have a very strong, sweet, floral perfume. (I don't really like florals very much, so I can't really nail down which florals specifically. Something on the sweeter, fruitier side, not like rose or lavender.) There's the tiniest hint of vanilla, and an even smaller hint of leather, when wet. No smoke at all. But once it dries it's sickly sweet floral all the way. I was really disappointed, I thought vanilla/leather/smoke would be the perfect perfume for me, but all I get is floral like crazy.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
stitchpirate replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
I just got an imp of Tezcatlipoca, and I LOVE IT. It's giving me a very Aquolina Pink Sugar sort of feeling. (Pink Sugar is pretty much the only mainstream perfume I use regularly.) I don't think I could mistake the two, but I think if you like one, you'd like the other. Both are generally sweet, with some other notes that seem incongruous but work really well. -
Snake Oil Help! Layering it, Snake Pit scents, blends with Snake Oil
stitchpirate replied to spaceprostitute's topic in Recommendations
I really dislike Snake Oil, I think it's very unappealing. But I really love Western Diamondback (only have tried new) and Saw Scaled Viper (both new and aged are wonderful in different ways). Also, Cake Smash is amazing and possibly my favorite BPAL, ever.
