This is mostly coconut but the sweetness of the rum comes out on dry down. There might be a hint of tobacco but it barely shows up on my skin. My husband loved it when he smelled it. I think it would be a good summer scent since it obviously has a little of the suntan smell to it (but not in a bad way). I could see myself slathered in this while sitting on the beach. This might have to be a death match with other coconut scents.

I love peach scents so i'm trying a few and then will narrow down to a death match! This one has patchouli in it, so i'm a little weary. If BPAL has taught me anything, it's to give everything a try. you never know how it will turn out. In the imp, peach. On the skin more peach...but wait...something else. it starts out with a light patchouli but then it's a very light creamy cocoa. Yesterday I tried out Agrat-Bat-Mahlat, which i found to be heavy cream with a touch of apple. this is the opposite. Heavy fruit with a touch of creaminess. Throw could have been a little better, but I don't have to dig my nose in to get it. It lasted a few hours but I did re-apply a few times during the day. I think it lasts longer than my other peach scent, Titania. If you like peach, you have to give this one a try.

Creamy with apples. A lot of folks are saying caramel but it's not going that way for me...it's more creamy like a dulce de leche or something closer to that. That is the main scent with a little of the fruitiness underneath to give it a fresher breath. Seemed to have a good throw and last for a while, but the creaminess was a little to heavy for me and I'm into foodie scents. I would wear the imp again but wouldn't get a bottle. (husband just smelled it and said it smells like pancakes and maple syrup. I can see the syrup bit.)

Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)

I had to try this one since it is a forum favorite, but looking at the notes...yea i like vanilla and plum. Not so much on patchouli and musk though. It smells very much like a perfume. I can't really pick out any of the notes i like or the notes I don't like. It's just a mix of everything. Where this really gets me is that is just smells EXACTLY like the room of the older girl that lived on my street. I looked up to her and she was cool and popular. She gave me a sweater once (it was Gap and I was poor so it was so amazing for me to have something ~designer~ haha!). Anyway, her sweater smelled like this. I didn't wash it for a long time. I just liked to smell it. I am not joking when I say this smells exactly like that. It really takes me to this place in my childhood and now *I* can be that girl. :-) Thanks, Beth! -
Wow, what is it with me and the snake pit. I can't find a one i like! This one is nice from the bottle, very incense-y, but on the skin it turned into plastic clay with a sweet fruit...berry undertone maybe? Not interested.

Snake oil and....clay? I can see how it could be incense, but it's not coming out that way on my skin. I actually think the snake oil is holding this back from being really great. It's as if it's cancelling something out. Yea, if i think about it really hard, I think it would be some sort of pottery shop. Earthy, wet, with an undertone of chemicals. Weird.

Smells exactly like it's described. Mostly coffee but you can tell it's a mocha mix. Not too much whiskey but a hint of booziness at the end. I'm a foody and fruity person, but this smells too much like a coffee shop. I wouldn't wear it as a perfume. It smells good though, if you are looking for something like that.

Not much smell to the bottle but a little lemony. On the skin it stays lemon but in comes the floral. I don't really get the sugar or peach -- which are two of my favorite notes. On the dry down, it starts to smell more like cleaner.

I'm a peach and fruity person so thought this would be great. In the imp its sweet apples. On the skin it stays sweet apples with a little bit of peach peaking out. When I take a deep sniff, there's a lot more depth with the fig and sandalwood coming into play. Unfortunately, it doesn't last long on me at all. I was really looking forward to this scent but it's just not in the cards. I'm going to try the other GC ones that were mentioned and see if they last longer on me.

This is a review for the 2008 version. I just received a decant recently so I don’t know if this is one that changes when it ages or not so keep that in consideration. This smells so creamy delicious. Coconut-vanilla like others have said, with soft wisps of flowers. I thought this would be good to wear since it just snowed, but I almost feel like it’s a summer scent. It’s cold, but like ocean cold or air-conditioning cold. This is something I could slather on in the summer and just know it would smell so good mixed with my sweat. Maybe it’s because the coconut brings out a little of the suntan lotion smell, but not in a bad way. I’m glad to see that this is a scent that comes back each year. I don’t want to get too in love with scents that are hard to find. I will get a bottle of this next time. If it smells radically different, then I’ll know to age it.

I bought this because I like berries, roses and lilacs. In the imp, this smelled kinda awful. I think it's really strong plum. Almost smells like the plum or berries have gone rotten. Underneath that I can get the roses. I figured it would calm down on the dry down and I was right. . Then it turned into berries and roses. It has a nice throw for a while but it didn't last long. I can barely smell it on my wrists after about 2 hours. I didn't fall in total love with this on first sniff, but I might add it to the pile to try again before swapping. I might even have to do a death match with some of the other roses before I figure out if this will be a bottle.

In the bottle, smells delicious. A lot of sage. Sage makes me think of Thanksgiving stuffing, so that's what I think when I smell the bottle. On the skin, that completely changes. Very fruity. Apples? I don't get any lavendar or honeyed milk. Maybe the honey is what makes it so sweet. There's something that does make me think of a baby though. It's not the baby powder we all hate that some scents turn into when mixed with our chemistry. Still fruity, but the fruitiness of a baby. Since I'm a fruity/floral person, I like this, but not enough to keep searching out extra bottles.

If you are a fan of cinnamon, this is a must try for you. In the bottle and wet it is just all cinnamon. Makes your nose wrinkle a bit. Once it dried down on me, the ginger came out more. I agree with the person that said this is gingersnap cookies in a bottle. It'd work for me as a room scent over the holidays but not something I personally want to smell like. Not interested.

In the bottle, it's red berry candy. I love fruity scents, but something about this smells like fake berries. Like candy. Sometimes I get a red cough syrup scent. On dry down, it's very perfumey. I can smell a little of the vanilla in the background, but overall I just get a fruity floral perfume. I'm a fruity floral BPAL person, but not when it has that perfume-y edge to it. In fact, this might be the only scent I've tried so far that dries down that way on me. I'll pass on this one (and wonder if any of the snake pits will work on me).

I am not really familiar with the scents listed in the description, so I can't pick them out. In general, this smells very pepper-y. It's like pepper and incense together. It might make a nice room scent in an old book shop or occult store, but I wouldn't wear it as a body scent.

I'm still learning about individual notes and all so it's hard for me to detect what this scent is composed of. It is very masculine in my opinion. I would not wear this scent but I'm more of a fruity floral person. I do, however, LOVE it on my husband. I agree with the "working class" scent. Not to sound weird, but it kinda smells like my dad once he's cleaned up a bit after a long day doing construction. There's some cologne/after shave smell to it. Not the fancy stuff, but not the cheap stuff also. It's like...the genuine stuff. Yea, the more I smell it the more it smells like my husband's shaven face. It's very sexy so I think that must be the musk coming out. I'm glad I took the risk and got him a bottle.

I'm a big fan of violets and a somewhat fan of lavendar so I thought this was going to be perfect for me. But I agree with everyone else, this is not very floral. It is very sweet and creamy. I just got around to smelling/testing O and Snake Oil so maybe it's stuck in my nose, but I get the creamy sexiness from them in this scent. Maybe it's just vanilla? Lavendar for me is more of a mood enhancer, not something I really wear as a daily scent. Like the others, I can't smell it. When I take a really deep sniff, I get some herbals at the tail end that could be the herbiness of the lavendar. But it's NOT the lavendar you think of when you think of lavendar. Overall, it's mostly sugary. I do love that.

In the imp, this is all cake. Smells like the birthday cake ice cream from coldstone creamery. I mean, this smells so yummy that I want to eat it (I won't! I know the warning!). But that is how strong the cake smell is...so strong I can almost taste it. Once it's put on the skin, the fruitiness comes out as just a hint in the background. Also, the cake smell tones down a bit so it is not as strong. I highly recommend trying it on the skin before swapping if you find the cake smell too much in the imp. This will probably end up in a death match with other vanilla sweet smells.

Phoenix Steamworks

I bought this imp for my husband to try. In the imp, is all sage with a hint of sharp, hot metal. But mostly sage. On him, it's a sage-y cologne, like others have said. It's definitely a sexy masculine scent. Probably a bottle for him. -
Sweet roses. Another beautiful rose scent. There is something really sweet in the background...almost fruity. I'm not sure if that's how the violet mixes with this rose or not. I don't really smell the violet at all. I found the scent very relaxing. I wore it to an acupunture appointment instead of lavendar and felt the same effects of relaxation, while also feeling very feminine. There was a medium throw to this that stuck around for a few hours. After about 5 hours, however, I'd say it's mostly gone.

This is pure rose on me. I don't get anything else out of this. But I LOVE roses, so it's a REALLY good rose scent. I'm really going to have to do a side by side death match with some other rose scents to determine which one I will buy a bottle of. edited to add words for better context!

This smells like a spice shop that also sells incense. In another sniff, it's a brand new leather jacket that was stored in a box for a few months. It's a little too much like a head shop for me. I like the smell and I wouldn't mind a room that smelled this way, but not a perfume I would wear.

I would not have purchased this on my own, but it's not bad. I smell exactly what everyone else smells. Very sweet in the bottle. On the skin, woody with a fruit undertone. And then there is this wet smell that is not really aquatic but something else. Smells like a water garden or something. A fragrance I might use in the bathroom. I wouldn't wear it, and probably wouldn't use as an atmosphere fragrance either. But all that said, it's not a bad scent.

I've been trying a lot of rose scents lately because I love roses, but it's hard for me to distinguish what is so different about them. How do I go about choosing which rose scent to buy a bottle of without having 10 rose bottles? I ended up getting this one as a frimp. This is not straight up rose. There's something else here that was hard to come by. It hit me just as I scanned the reviews and saw the word I was looking for. Aquatic. Yes. This is rose with a hint of aquatic. It makes me think of the ocean, but it's not a sea salt ocean aquatic I smell. It's more like the calm ocean breeze being blown through roses. I can see myself wearing this oil in a light cotton sundress going out to dinner. I'd probably stick to the fruity scents for on the beach, so this is more like nighttime at the beach.

I cannot for the life of me describe this scent. It is foodie. It is not eggy. It is more like custard or nog. I love it and I can't stop sniffing my arm, but I would not wear it as a perfume. I think it would be great as an atmosphere scent. It also might be a good masculine scent. Something in it makes me feel like it's more manly. But I am more of a fruity and floral person. but still...i feel like i have to have a bottle of this. I don't know why. It's addictive. Maybe I'd just open and sniff the bottle. I have no idea.
