I admit I was a bit scared when I ordered three bottles of this, unsniffed. I adored the original Glowing Vulva— and would’ve been devastated if this didn’t smell like the iconic BPAL perfume I remembered. while I don’t have the imp I cherished years ago to compare this to— this surprisingly did not disappoint. it’s the same hypnotic scent I remembered: lactonic and sweet, but soft and mildly woodsy. the lotus gives this a hint of sweetness that’s tempered with luscious cream, softly-glowing amber, and teak notes. truly a glorious post-sex afterglow!

scents like this trigger my synesthesia— and I saw a pale golden glow when I sniffed this in the bottle. I was immediately reminded of the “honey musk” note in Lady Una, which is in my top five favorite BPAL perfumes. this is so sensual-smelling on my skin, and I want to bathe in it. I'm so happy that the honey is not that dirty, sexual honey in scents like Womb Furie and O (which I was kind of expecting based on the name), it’s soft and fairylike, dancing joyfully with the glowing musk and ambrette seed. I’m so in love with this. I adore skin scents and will definitely need to pick up another bottle before it disappears.

the rum hit my nose as soon as I opened the bottle, and I was sure I hated it. I tested it on my skin anyway, and let it dry. now, the boozy smell is mostly gone— or hiding behind a chewy, warm, dark brown sugar cookie. I’m happy that the cookie scent isn’t cloying— it’s almost like a sweet skin scent. I LOVE this one, keeper for sure ♥️

I’m not getting any turkey notes from this but upon first sniff it’s a yummy pineapple cupcake with marzipan buttercream frosting, and it’s strong. I only used a tiny dab on my skin after smelling the oil in the imp. I love foody scents, but I don’t know if I could slather this one. it might be one for the hair.

someone recommended this when I said I loved Banshee Beat, and I immediately ordered two bottles. I ripped my package open because I was so excited to smell this. I sniffed the unopened bottle and immediately thought it smelled like Antikythera Mechanism (which I need to re-purchase)…and a black licorice note? I opened the bottle and got a whiff of buttercream, and coffee liquor…? I was a bit disappointed. I dabbed the oil onto my forearm and wrist and suddenly the scent transformed into the marshmallowy, caramelly, patchouli I was expecting. an hour later, the marshmallow is very faint, but I’m still smelling caramel with a hint of that sweet patch. it’s not the exact same melty-sweet patchouli that’s in BB, but I love it either way & I’m glad I bought two bottles 💜

SPRINKLECAKE More than gems in my comb box shaped by the God of the Sea, I prize you, my daughter Happy birthday, Lilith! I can't believe you're three already! I love you more than love, my driveway hockey playin', princess dressin' uppin', funny face makin', tarot card tossin', cupcake lickin', rainbow lovin', don't-wanna-go-to-school excuse makin', doggie squishin', Nightmare Before Christmas Soundtrack singin', Foofa cuddlin', inflatable pool mermaid'in', jellybean countin', spaghetti noodle whippin' offspring. I love you so much. You are my heart, you are my smile, you are my joy. This is the scent of the cupcakes that her (kind, generous, and wonderful!) Aunt Sarah made for her birthday! Lilith's request was for sprinkle flavored cupcakes ("sprinklecakes!") with pink and purple glitter frosting, and that's what she got. That's what you're getting, too: this cupcake fragrance is the sweetest of the sweet, the sugariest of the sugary! Rainbow sprinkles baked into rich vanilla cake with thick, creamy frosting topped with glittery candy flakes. This smells like rich buttery vanilla cake, with buttercream frosting and a bit of marzipan. Just like the description reads, it's VERY sugary, and INTENSE. I could smell the cake with the bottle completely closed. I dislike almond/marzipan, and while this has a teeny bit upon application, it fades away quickly. I'm left with cake and sugar on the dry down, and something which reminds me of Midway. I bought 2 bottles, but I don't think I'm going to need to keep the 2nd one - it's so rich and sugary that it hurts my teeth.

L'EAU DE LA FOLIE Cacao, frankincense, gurjum balsam, red tea, vetiver, and myrrh. The strongest notes I'm getting from this bath oil are balsam, vetiver and red tea. Frankincense and myrrh are light, and I'm getting almost no cacao although there is a soft sweetness to this. Not candy-like, but a sweet musk. I wish this was the perfume--it's gorgeous. Layered with the perfume though, it becomes a deeper chocolate sweet resin with a bit of spice. Both the oil and perfume complement each other very well.

In some cultures, the Dragon is benevolent, bestowing blessings and granting wishes. In others, the Dragon is an icon of destruction and harbinger of catastrophe. In all its incarnations, both baneful and benign, the Dragon is a symbol of strength, authority, and the raw power of nature. This Dragon Moon represents the forces of rebirth and the vigor that springtime brings: dragon's blood resin, galbanum, coriander, patchouli, wild arbor vitae, blue sage, lavender, peppermint, sweetgrass, frankincense, moonglow magnolia, bergamot, Terebinth pine, fire-blackened wood, and green cedar. I admit I bought this for the label art and the fact that it was dragon-related. While I love patchouli, woods, resins and pine...I was afraid the lavender, peppermint, magnolia and sage would make it icky. It's difficult to tell what I'm smelling in the bottle. I guess I'd call it sweet pine? On my skin, I get a lot of gorgeous Schwarzer Mond-like patchouli, sweetgrass, coriander and dragon's blood resin. The peppermint is hanging in there somewhere but it's not obvious, kind of like like peppermint note in WILF does. Dry, it smells like smooth patchouli with a bit of coriander and dragon's blood. I think Dragon Moon is a rather unique, pretty, "dark" scent. Everything is very well blended, definitely a keeper.

L’Essence du Cœur Libéré des Ténèbres Extrait
Gold Dust Kitten posted a topic in Black Phoenix Trading Post
L'essence du Cœur Libéré des Ténèbres Extrait Sweet vanilla orchid, red sandalwood, and ylang ylang emerging from a dark shroud of fossilized amber, East Indian black patchouli, black pomegranate, guaiac wood, Peru balsam, and oudh. This is my first time testing an extrait. The first spray was a shock because I smelled a blast of alcohol. It burned off after a couple seconds and left the scent of fresh woods, balsam, and ylang ylang. Further drying revealed sweet orchid and fleeting pomegranate. As it dried completely, the sandalwood, amber and patchouli base notes shine through. The end result is a sweet, woody patchouli on my skin. This is exquisite! -
My favorite coconut scent that rarely gets mentioned in the "coconut" category is Snake Charmer. It's a discontinued scent, but you may be able to track down an imp or bottle. The Lab's description... Sensual, sibilant, sexual and hypnotic: Arabian musk and exotic spices slinking through Egyptian amber, enticing vanilla, and a serpentine blend of black plum, labdanum, ambrette, benzoin and black coconut.

L'EAU DE LA PASSION Carnation, orange blossom honey, myrrh, and neroli. Huh. I expected this to be a honeyed carnation with myrrh, but it's like a really dirty-beeswaxy & sour floral. I'm not really used to neroli, so maybe that's what's going wrong here? I keep smelling it and I want to like it, but I can't. Something is just really not working on my skin at all and I'm thinking it's the neroli and I hate to give bad reviews but this is making me nauseated. Sorry. eta...I tried layering it with the perfume oil like OctoberGwen did, and it's slightly better. I noticed the funky flower kept fighting to get out still...

Best BPALs for SUMMER - is it hot, sweltering, sticky outside?
Gold Dust Kitten replied to Donnababe's topic in Recommendations
I've been wearing Dia for the last 2 weeks, it's perfect for warm weather. <3 -
to buy. http://www.blackphoenixalchemylab.com/forumonly.html

This reminds me of Panther Moon a little, or is it Velvet Panther? Or Scwarzer Mond? There's heavy musk and syrupy cola. I get a little Snake Oil from this but it's nowhere near as sweet and vanilla. I actually love this, and will be grabbing a couple more bottles before it goes away.

I've tested most of those and I like Port Royal and Jolly Roger best. I think they have similar notes of rum, woods, and salty ocean, but JR has leather. Another great pirate scent, and hands down favorite is Anne Bonny: "...A blend of Indonesian red patchouli, red sandalwood, and frankincense..." I'd also recommend Pirate Moon, which is a limited edition and not available anymore, but you may be able to find a decant around the sale/swap pages. Pirate Moon: Red musk, ambergris, coconut palm, red sandalwood, balsam, date, warm leather, tobacco, ebony, lingum vitae wood, pandanus grass, an' a touch o' lime.

This is such an amazing scent! It's not registering as perfume to me, but it really smells like the India ink I remember from art classes in college. There is a strange resiny smell that reminds me of one of the notes in Ivanushka or the 2010 bottle of Midnight Mass when it was fresh (frankincense maybe?). There's also something that smells like fresh motor oil. I am getting the "peppery paper" others mentioned in the dry down also. Rad.

Dolly Kei is like a lighter, flirtier Haloes or Antikythera Mechanism to me. Something, the tobacco-smells like teak/oak. It's a creamy golden vanilla. It's positively gorgeous!

This is just delightful! I can close my eyes and see the rabbit hole with dirt and greens and gardeny stuff.
-
I wish this wasn't such a light scent despite all the heavy notes. The teak is glorious. The patchouli-vanilla combo is slightly reminiscent of Banshee Beat. The musk makes it a little perfumery but in a good way, and tobacco is a supporting note. I'm not too familiar with some of the other notes or they just aren't showing up to the party. This is a beautiful scent. I'm glad I got a bottle. :-)

This is not my favorite scent. There is sweet, cloying rotted flowers and herbs, and dirt and grapey wine. No...

To me, Chimera smells like the Aphrodite Kypria room spray, but a little less sweet. I live cinnamon smells but can't usually wear them because it irritates my skin and it amps and turns into cinnamon red hots. This smells cotton candy sweet with warm resins and I love it. I would only be able to wear this in my hair.

I always hoped an imp of Depraved would come my way because I'm not a big fan of apricot in perfume but I do like patchouli. At first, this smelled like overripe peach or apricot. I was pretty sure I'd have to wash it off of my skin because the patchouli and apricot we're not playing nice together. After a few minutes the apricot calmed down and I was able to smell more of the dirty patchouli coming through. Later, it becomes patch with an occasional apricot bursting through. This scent really captures the idea of something sweet encountering something dirty and lecherous. I'm not sure I'd wear it often--I prefer patchouli with other dark notes a lot more.

I have a bottle of Comptior Sud Pacifique "Aloha Tiare" perfume and this hair gloss is a dead ringer for it. It's so tropical and coconutty, and strong! I'm going to spritz a little on my hand to mix with my Marrakech hair oil so it's not so OMG-beach-explosion. I love this, glad I got a bottle. <3

Many thanks to my wonderful fairy. I can't pass up anything with woods, and when it's combined with patchouli, musks and chocolate, I'm sold. It smelled like Boomslang with a bit of #occupywallstreet in the bottle. Dark chocolate and dirty patchouli. Once it touches my skin, the cacao is smacked down by mahogany woods and balsam. I'm not that familiar with tonka bean so I can't tell what it lends to this perfume, but eventually this settles into a cocoa-dusted heady patch/musk with some sarsaparilla. The musk reminds me of the ones in the original Black Lace. It's a bit on the masculine side but it's teh sex. The dry stage reminds me more of La Mano Del Destino than anything else. Slightly sweet dark patchouli.

I my fairy! I wanted Silver-Haired Bat from go because of the ambergris. I think the combination of benzoin with ambergris is making this scent a little Midway cotton candyish. It's butterscotch-vanilla-sugary in between the wet-dry phase, with a hint of the same cedar I recognize from Tombstone. At the end I get a slight whiff of pepper but it's not spicy, if that makes any sense. This scent is fantastic!
