Hippiesh, spicy, musky scents - without patchouli
Ina Garten Davita replied to friendthegirl's topic in Recommendations
Haunted come to mind. And Anne Bonny. I just layered some together with a touch of Snake Oil and oh boy I smell yummy! Also Greed, Shroud, Cathedral and Tarot the World (which I may gotten from you, so maybe not!) -
First Impression: Hot cinnamon out of the bottle. Second Impression: The cinnamon note does not last long enough. Pooh! As soon as it's dry, it's gone then it's all almond and amber and vanilla rum. It reminds me muchly of Hellcat. Final Analysis: I really like, smells great on, but no staying power.

O, Eclipse and Hellcat have that slightly sweet foodiness about them, but they aren't overly sweet. Just plain yummy! -

What scents are masculine? Gender-neutral?
Ina Garten Davita replied to Fae_Rae's topic in BPAL FAQs
Zephyr is another one that would smell just gorgeous on a man. -
First Impression: Violets. This is the first time, I think, that I've smelled one of Beth's violet based scents. Second Impression: This reminds me of a "walking through the mall smelling perfumes scent", perhaps it's Gap Dream or something from Victoria's Secret. It's very airy and the name suits perfectly. Final Analysis: Though a pretty scent it just isn't "me". But I do think that my best friend Nerissa will fancy this. I've ordered a few BPAL's for her birthday and this is going in with them.
-
First Impression: Merry Christmas, me! Second Impression: This blend is perfectly balanced. All three of the notes are in harmony and just lovely. Three Witches almost crosses over into the foody category. Final Analysis: I want my house and me to smell like this from December 1 through to December 31. This is a perfect Yultide scent.
-
First Impression: It definitely smells green. The herbs and grasses are fresh and almost sweet rather than sharp and soapy. Second Impression: This is a beautiful blend. I didn't think I was going to like it based on all the reviews. The flowers sweeten up the green elements of this blend. Final Analysis: I felt mischievous, with a spring in my step while wearing Unseelie. I love it.
-
First Impression: Dragon's Blood, I love it so. Second Impression: This is the deepest, most mysterious of the Dragon's Blood scents I've sampled. It's seductive and musky. Final Analysis: A very sexy sniff. I really like this because once the muskiness and darnkess fades, I get light sweet whiffs of the roses and ylang ylang. Very nice blend.
-
First Impression: Lotus, lots of lotus. It's the same rich lotus note I really love in Blood Lotus. Second Impression: On my skin the fruitiness comes out. It starts our very jammy and thick and almost rotting. Final Analysis: I didn't smell any amber in this. Once the lotus fades, I'm only left with rotting fruit smell. Not overly keen on this one.
-
First Impression: Like Cathedral only deeper and darker. I don't know about black though. Smells more like deep deep shiny brown. Second Impression: I adore Beth's resiny woodsy scents and this is no exception. The saldalwood and cedar are beautiful and gleaming, like highly polished dark wood. Final Analysis: This is heavy, not for daytime summer use, but for night. This would smell wonderful on a man. This also smelled wonderful layered with Unseelie.
-
First Impression: This is much brighter and sharper than the other Funereal Oils I've sampled. The lavender and cypress are most noticeable. Second Impression: The flowers mellow out the sharpness during the drydown and the woods appear. I found this to be fresher and brighter than the name would imply. Final Anaysis: I didn't get any despair or melancholy from this. It's just a nice bright floral with woodsy backbone. Nice but not a favorite.
-
First Impression: I don't smell jasmine or roses. Smells bright in the bottle. Second Impression: Oh I don't like this. Smells very odd, almost foul on my skin. Final Analysis: I have had very good luck with Beth's florals but this just smells like a swamp to my nose.

Similarities Between BPAL Scents - GC and general discussion
Ina Garten Davita replied to Shollin's topic in Recommendations
Blood Lotus and Dragon's Heart and Lust all remind me of each other. I love them all! -
First Impression: Sweet florals with a smooth woodsy backdrop. Second Impression: This kept getting sweeter the longer I wore it. The cedar was ever present, keeping this from getting sickly or seeming innocent. Final Analysis: After several hours a the woodsiness turns sharp, but not in an unpleasant way. This is one beautful blend.
-
First Impression: Whoa, this one is deep. This is not your springtime morning fragrance. Second Impression: The name does this justice. Noir is perfect for a late night seduction. Hot and deep and spicy sweet flowers. Final Analysis: This is forever going to be my grown up night time fragrance. I can see myself all decked out in a sexy black outfit walking along the deck of a cruise ship with the wind blowing this scent all around me..."who is that gorgeous smelling woman?" as I walk by.

What scents are masculine? Gender-neutral?
Ina Garten Davita replied to Fae_Rae's topic in BPAL FAQs
Some of the ones that I love and that would smell great on a man are Greed Sibirian Musk (single note) Golden Priapus Anne Bonny (not traditionally masculine, but I want to smell this on a man!) -
First Impression: Candy sweet plummy candles. Second Impression: I don't get any floral at all. It's all sweet candley plumminess. Final Analysis: Just like March Hare, not smelling good on me, but is going to be a wonderful roon/linen spray.
-
First Impression: Earthy and spicy with a little sweetness to it. Second Impression: Oh glorious scent. It's the best of everything. It's woodsy, sweet, spicy, airy, crisp, fresh, earthy, deep, light, bright. How it can be all of these at once, only Lab Goddess knows. I smell sandalwood, cinnamon, the lightest hint of lemon. Beautiful. Final Analysis: All I know is that it's wonderful and I just want to bathe in it!
-
First Impression: Mellow and sweet...almonds drizzled with honey. Second Impression: This is the "comfort food" of all the BPAL scents I've tried. It's the stay at home, I need a hug and my fuzzy slippers fragrance. Final Analysis: Dana O'Shee really comforted me when I needed it. This is a keeper for "days like these". Edited to Add: I dabbed a bit more of this on before bed last night (it's just sooo soooothing) and when my husband got into bed and cuddled me he kept sniffing me and sniffing me saying "MMMMMM". It was wonderful!

I have two imps of Hellcat that look and smell completely different from each other. I have no idea why. And one is much nicer than the other. It's a mystery.
-
First Impression: I adore the name, I have been called Empress by my husband in the past. Empress overrules King, you see. And I adore the scent. Second Impression: Yes it is roses and lots of them. But these roses aren't sweet, elegant roses these are wild roses with lots of thorns. Final Analysis: I love the underlying resiny scent here. Rosewood or sandalwood perhaps? I've been wearing it all day. It's pretty much gone from my skin, still faintly scenting my hair, but still strongly wafting from my locket. Just wonderful.

I'm not really qualified in this sort of thing, but I have done an amazing amount of online shopping since 1998. I went to all the sites to have a look and I found the cf_ezcart quite easy to use and had a good look to it. Everything was easy to read. Also Cart Manager was really nice and easy to understand. I didn't care for eCompal.
