In the bottle, and wet, this smelled lovely soft and floral...the rose reminded me of Katrina Van Tassel, but more muted(the only way that rose note could get better, to me) and balanced by the honeysuckle. Maybe 10-20 minutes later, I kept catching whiffs of a soft, feminine vanilla floral...then about 10-15 minutes after that, white musk showed up and scared off everyone else at the party. Sigh. One of these days I'll learn to avoid the death-notes, even when they're surrounded by such lovelies...

Oh no! This just arrived in today's mail, and I've been so excited about it--raptors being something of a favorite of mine, plus I've been on a vanilla kick of late--and I just tried it on... Detergent. It smells vanilla-y at first, and I can detect a bit of spice and other things--almost a coconut feel to it--but very quickly it goes to soapiness of the sort that sticks in my mouth and throat. I suspect the sandalwood is to blame, as I've noted similar tendencies in both Paramatman and Queen Mab. I wanted so badly to love this one...particularly as I've not had much luck with this year's Lunacies.

I'd been looking off and on for a lime scent that would work for me(most tend to fade way too quickly, being paired with other strong things), and will try any scent with a pre-Columbian inspiration, so I ignored the white musk death-note and ordered an imp when it first went live. The lime is strong enough and has enough lasting power to hold its own, but after maybe a minute the musk reared its ugly head and would not leave. That said, if white musk does work for you, this is probably quite lovely...it certainly smells nice in the vial.

Hrm...my first thought was Morgause, though Silk Road and Scherezade seem like they'd fit the SCA stuff better(and Scherezade would also fit in with the love of stories). Kumari Kandam, too, for some reason... As for me...I was an art history major(primary interest in ancient art, both classical and pre-columbian), though I'm currently between schools and likely to switch focus to anthropology/folklore when I go back. I'm a mythology nerd, and have a slight thing for tricksters. I self-identify as a gamer, though it's mostly DnD(when I can) and boffer-LARP. I spent several years working in a library, but now do theatre-tech stuff and a variety of art projects in various media ranging from decoupage and collage to costuming, jewelry, sculpture, and perfumery. I'm something of a homebody, and tend to get quite nervous in crowds... Oh, and I collect tarot decks...think I'm up to an even dozen now, not counting non-tarot oracle cards.

This is lovely-smelling, very spicy and sweet, and cinnamon-y...as I'm a big fan of Chimera and other sweet/spicy stuff, this was one of the first from my recent order that got tried. Unfortunately, my hand started itching and burning not five minutes after dabbing Silk Road on it, and a red, rash-like spot appeared. I'm guessing there's something in this that's similar to other brands I've tried of oils with a cinnamon scent to 'em, and I'm not sure what it is...I haven't gotten this reaction from any of the other cinnamon-y BPAL scents I've tried. May try using it as a room-scent, but it looks like I'm definitely allergic to this one.

This was one of the first scents I ordered, when I finally broke down and decided to try BPAL earlier this year. Having studied pre-columbian cultures and art at college, this(and Tezcatlipoca) was a no-brainer when deciding what to try. I think this is quite possibly my favorite bpal to date. It's rich and sweet-but-not-sweet, with the floral aspect and the orange interacting peacefully and the copal mellowing it out, grounding it, and at the same time making it somehow more. I don't really get a specific "incense" note that's separate from the rest, but as South American incense tends to be primarily copal, it could just be a slightly smokier variant of that, mixed with the rest. Oh...and for the "unpronounceable"... I seem to recall it being pronounced CHEE-oo-teh-COOT-lee

Mm, interesting...if Rosalind is fresh new-grown, dewy grass with little wild strawberries peeking out, this is a field of mature grass, spreading out in every direction, under the midday sun. It's still green, not dried like straw or hay, but...warm, slightly spicy, and doesn't have that fresh, moist feel to it. Very interesting scent, and quite pleasant. Very glad I got to try this one.
