Tezcatlipoca I get no leather from this at all. To my nose, it's identical to The Malignant Dreams of Cthulhu in Love (ThinkGeek exclusive) plus some flowers, and minus the saltiness. I'll have to do a death match to be sure, but I think I prefer Cthulhu in Love. 2.5 out of 5

Imp OH man. Instant love. I think I have a weakness for fruit + patchouli. This is juicy, woody, sexy, impish. This is LOVE! 4.99 out of 5

The Witch's Garden Rats. I really wanted to like this. All the listed notes sounded so wonderful and interesting. Especially the rampion, carrot, parsley, and sage. Unfortunately, it smells like sushi and white flowers. After it dries, it smells like white flowers times infinity. Ugh. I don't like smelling like a bridal bouquet. Interestingly, it smells like Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca in the imp. A little menthol-y and very green. I wish I was able to smell some of the vegetables. On the plus side (if you like this one), it lasts a very long time. 2 out of 5

Nosferatu The description of this one drew me in. When I read it I HAD to have it. It was one of the imps that made up my very first order. I love this. My first impression was that it smelled like one of my friend's houses from childhood. It doesn't smell like a grave or a crypt to me. It smells comfy and homey. The wine is very soft, barely there and not at all alcoholic. It's more like a whisper or suggestion of wine. The herbs and the dirt come together to form a smell almost like fresh cut flowers. Like a greenhouse or the inside of a flower shop. On me, the dirt does not smell dry. It smells fertile and moist. I love Nosferatu. If I could change anything, I would make it last longer and have a stronger throw. It's a very subtle scent, and I wish it would be more "in your face" because it's so wonderful. 4.5 out of 5

I had reviewed this a while ago, when I didn't really understand it. I have grown to love this so much. This is the first metallic scent I have ever tried. I love the musky drydown that lasts forever, as well as the complex, citrusy opening. This is awesome on its own as well as layered (I like it with The Lights of Men's Lives or Haunted!). I just can't get enough of it

Urd In the imp: Holy...! WHAT IS THAT?!!?! Wet on skin: Hmmm...what IS that?... Dry on skin: Mmmmmm...grapes and patchouli! How interesting! How rare! How wonderful! Hours later: *huffing wrist* oooohhh yeeeaahhh.... 4.9 out of 5

Vechernyaya Golly...this is fancy smelling! I definitely smell each listed note. Vechernyaya confirmed my love for patchouli and musk. The poppy is very sharp and pronounced wet on my skin, and softens as it dries. I love every stage of this. It has a decent throw, though not too strong. It lasted quite a while on me. I can see myself craving this every once in a while when I want to feel fierce and fabulous. 3.9 out of 5 ETA: This was frimped to me from The Lab!

Black Opal I slathered this one like CRAZY. Mmmm!! The oil is crystal-clear in the imp. Goodness gracious, it is delicious. I think someone said that it smells hot and cold at the same time. I agree. It smells snuggly and familiar to me. It's a complex scent but it doesn't change much from in the imp to drydown. I would say this is a good enabling scent. Cannot imagine anyone disliking it. 4.5 out of 5

Eat Me Wowza. This knocked my socks off when I smelled it directly from the imp. It's SOOOOOOOOO strongly cakey!! It's like a cake-scented candle. Or cake batter ice cream. Mmmmmmm. The currants make a transient appearance when it's still wet on my skin. After that, it's all cake. Maybe an eensy smidge of currant if I huff my wrist after drydown. My mom was able to smell this from really far away. I was at the bottom of the stairs and she was at the top and she said "I smell you! " So yeah...the throw is pretty strong. This is DELICIOUS. If you're a fan of foody smells, this is definitely for you. 4.5 out of 5

Dracul This is...Christmasy. o_O It really is. It's nice though! Pine, orange, and clove dominate in the imp and wet on my skin. After a while, the tobacco comes out to join them. Hours after drydown it is still very strong with a VERY heavy throw. Spicy oranges are quite pronounced through all the stages. A very masculine scent. 4 out of 5 *This was frimped to me from the Lab!

Out of the imp, this smells just like Lemon Sugar by Fresh. Smells the same on my wrist when wet. After drydown, it turns creamy to the extreme. The tea is never strong at any point but still there. I can't detect the musk but I wish I could. This smells very foody and lemony to me, though lemon isn't listed in the notes. Kinda reminds me of a lemon poppy muffin. The throw is very very VERY light, but it does have good staying power. I do not agree that this is a unisex scent. It's way too sweet for that. I think everybody should wear whatever smell they like, but I just can't see this appealing to men.

Szepasszony Where is it?! I barely smell anything directly out of the imp! Maybe it's because I've become so used to strong BPAL oils? After I apply it to my wrist, I can just make out a faint glue-like smell. The kind of glue that seals envelopes. That and bathroom spray. Yuck! After a while though, it warms up and begins to smell like a familiar perfume that I can't remember the name of. Nice enough, but pretty boring. 2.5 out of 5

Violet Ray Dry, bitter, and astringent. I don't get the coldness that other people have. After a while, the woodiness comes out. It's a dry woodiness that's a little bit harsh. I do get a mentholated feeling in my nose if I sniff it directly from my wrist after drydown. Other than that, it's woody and warm. Very odd. Hours after application, the violet finally comes out and it's very soft and candylike. 3.5 out of 5

The Antikythera Mechanism
ModderRhu replied to VioletChaos's topic in Phoenix Steamworks & Research Facility
The Antikythera Mechanism I can't distinguish between the two woods (teak and oak) in this blend, but I get an overall feeling of "woodiness" that I like. The mix of tobacco and vanilla is very nice, and fortunately I don't get much of the ash tray smell that other BPALers have gotten. I'm not sure that I agree this is a unisex scent. On me it turns sweet and the vanilla dominates. I think my skin tends to "amp" vanilla. The throw is VERY strong so be careful if you wear this one to work. It lasted over 12 hours on me. I would give this one a 4 out of 5. -
Ladon Pre-conceived notions: No idea what dragon's blood smells like. Love apple. Love hyacinth! In the imp: WHOA. It's like a fresh, crisp apple with hyacinth in the background. Something else is there, too...another flower? The dragon's blood? Hmm... Wet on skin: I LOVE IT. It's sooooo fresh and springy and fruity and just wow. Love. Dry on skin: The "something else" in the imp comes out more on my skin and it smells like a greenhouse. Soily, humid, sweet. Is that dragon's blood? I'll have to try other dragon's blood blends to find out, as this is my first. Whatever it is, I like it. Very much. The hyacinth and apple are there, too. Mmmm... Hours later: The hyacinth is the only note I can still detect and it's very soft, but definitely there. Verdict: I love it. Never smelled anything like it. Can definitely see myself getting a bottle after I slather the rest of the imp 4.5 out of 5 Edited for clarity.

The Malignant Dreams of Cthulhu in Love
ModderRhu replied to Ravenclaw79's topic in Retail Exclusive Oils
The Malignant Dreams of Cthulhu in Love Pre-conceived notions: Incense, kelp, salt, ocean plants, and chocolate. I hoped it would smell like salty chocolate + men's cologne + some kelpy coolness. This is my first BPAL ever! In the bottle: CHOCOLATE. A little incense, but CHOCOLATE. Even with the lid closed. From a foot away. Wet on skin: Mmmmmmm...this is very very chocolatey. Complex and deep and yummy. The incense gives it a medatative feel right alongside the yumminess. It reminds me a bit of Thierry Mugler's Angel, only MUCH better. Dry on skin: Yep, I definitely smell the salt! Still chocolatey. No sign of any kelp, but I still really really love it. It smells like evil cupcakes and incense. I feel slightly evil and mischievous when I wear this. (Think Professor Chaos.) Hours later: Most of the chocolate and incense has dissipated and left behind...honey? Curious. Very nice, though. Good staying power. Verdict: I was hoping for foodiness juxtaposed with the freshness of the sea and men's cologne. What I got, though, I still really like. (Salt + chocolate= ) Not sure it's love, but it's at least like. I can't see myself buying a second bottle of this, but I will gladly finish the first! 3.5 out of 5 stars ETA: A general catalog equivalent is Tezcatlipoca. It's almost identical to my nose.
