It's so much easier to just list what I am NOT interested in...much shorter list. I'm NOT interested in celebrity, in being famous, rich, or powerful, in being Important, or in Math or sciences not directly related to the natural world. And I'm not into radical movements of a political, religious, social, or any other sort. I'm pretty much into anything else!

Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)
Medievalmaniac replied to zillah37's topic in Carnaval Diabolique
Lyonesse was my first love, but Madame Moriarty may well eclipse it! Where has this smell been all my life?! Yuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. In the most getting-into-bed-ASAP meaning of the word. It's right up there with my visceral response to Sed Non Satiata. I'm really dying to see what the boy's response to this one is. -
I am SO GLAD to read your review, because all I am getting is mint, mint, mint, and I thought I might actually have lost my sense of smell since there's not supposed to be any mint! It smells like toothpaste in the imp and continued to smell so on my skin. I had to wash it off. But since the drydown eventually gave "gorgeous" to someone else who initially got mint too, I might put it on before bed and just see. I don't mind mint at night. Again, thanks for this. I am so comforted to know I'm not the only one getting toothpaste from it!!!

a nineteenth century bouquet, placed in water. Very old-fashioned florals, but blended with enough aquatic to be evocative of old-world beauty without sacrificing the edginess I have come to associate with BPAL scents. It smells like a room in a Victorian home where the lady of the house sits, wafts of her perfume drifting through the chamber as she reads Romantic poetry and dreams the day away. Tennyson would approve.

I don't know who in the lab is in charge of choosing frimps for people, but whoever did it absolutely NAILED it when s/he sent me this one. YUM. Yum, yum, yum - and it isn't really like the other ones I have been loving on, which expands my BPAL horizons and just makes me HAPPY!!! Thank you, whoever packaged this order! Super satisfied customer!!!

Wow, I hope this isn't completely inappropriate, but I really REALLY wish I had her breasts....! OK, on to the actual review - this is the only one of the Lupercal sniffies I received from the swap board that DH liked. He seems to be very picky so far - he likes Spellbound, O, and Eve besides this, and said Lyonesse is "nice" (Sacrilege! I might have to walk out on the man! lol) But, this seems to be a scent that the fellows like. I love that it is a rather musky, earthy tone under all the florals, which rescues it from going too sweet on me. I LOVE the dry down, although the throw is weaker than it is with Areia, in particular (my close second favorite of this series). This is therefore officially going to be my Very First, lab-bought limited edition bottle (DH says I can buy ONE limited edition each time there's a new set...! lol) We may really have to renegotiate the terms of this union! Love me, love my BPAL! (What have you people done to me?!?! lolol).

Great God(dess)(e)(s)! At first I thought "Oh, it's nice", but I was rather disappointed with the much-hyped "O" - it didn't smell all that sexy to me, and DH had no reaction to it. I thought it was rather on the sweet side, wasn't getting any of the muskiness, and it kept drying down to straight vanilla/baby powder. Pretty, but not sensual or sexual. Love's Baby Soft pretty. ewwwwww..... I mixed it with a bit of unscented lotion figuring it would stay longer and maybe the scent would travel better. Oh, did it ever. I'm not sure what shifted, but by the second decant I am a full-on convert. O makes me want to go to town, and not in the leaving-the-house way! (You guys need the eyebrows smiley...!) With the lotion, the dry-down goes to a honeyed vanilla with a slightly musky quality - exactly what I originally expected. I love that! Yay!! DH still hasn't had the "oh, wow, what IS that?" response to any of the BPAL scents except Eve (go figure!) but I am definitely sold on the sensual nature of O. Definitely upgrading to a full bottle!

Riotous in the imp, so many flowers and berries going on you can't pick anything out. Wet, it's a cacophony of florals. I find that I don't like Blood Countess wet at all, on or off skin. But the dry-down is quite lovely - fragrant and unusual, with a hint of darkness from the purply plum and a smoky, somewhat sensual quality from the opium. Nice!

ETA - this is my first official review! This was a frimp tossed into a swap. I didn't even have Black Lily on my radar as one I'd want to bother trying. But - gOh, my God(dess)(e)(s)! This one didn't even make it past the general "oh, look, a freebie" sniff test before I was gooping it onto my wrists and neck, sniffling and snuffling like a pig after truffles. Holy crazy yummy scent, Batman! Dark, seductive, mysterious woman in the woods, veiled in shadows and hooded and cloaked; you don't know what she looks like and you really don't care, because she's got to be beautiful any way you dice it. AND, it's an intelligent scent, complex and balanced. What a winner!!! Stays true to scent while drying, good throw and lasting power. Bottle me up, Scottie!

Sexy, Smutty, Seductive, Provocative... It's All in Here

Here's a funny one: of all of the scents I have tried so far(probably about twenty five now, including O, Bordello, Spellbound - plenty of the "sexy" scents), DH has said "that's nice." "That's nice." "That one smells good." "yes, I like it." Completely asensual responses, and very uninterested in BPAL and my new obsession with it. The one that got the "wow, what's THAT? Is that one of your BPAL thingies? I'm completely into that scent and by association you right now" response? EVE. Men! lmao. But hey - at least we got a live one! Guess he likes apples....? -

If you can find some, definitely try Gypsy (from last summer's Metamorphosis update). It's sexy in an understated way and definitely a crowd-pleaser. Its notes are bourbon vanilla, Egyptian musk, tonka, white sugar, and cardamom. This one sounds quite promising....especially the bourbon vanilla bit! Are there other scents with bourbon vanilla combos? I haven't tried it yet but THE ARRIVAL AT THE SABBATH AND HOMAGE TO THE DEVIL from the Salon contains: Bourbon vanilla, benzoin, caramel, Mysore sandalwood, aged black patchouli, carnation, and iris florentina. Oh, my God(dess)(e)(s), that sounds....oh, my God(dess)(e)(s)....Ummm...I think I'm making a purchase NOW! (OK, OK, when I get my next paycheck...!) -
Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

Jupita - you sound rather like me in many ways. I have found that I like Morgause for the strong, independent, fiery woman side; Lyonesse for everyday fabulousness, and O the best to date. Try the ambers and honey vanillas and see if that works for you. -

So, here's a question for the wiser masses - I'm a lover of sensuals and unusuals. The fellow I'm into at present is a straight-laced, good old Southern boy. What scent or scents would you recommend to get the attention of a mainstream fellow's nose and make him sit up and say "wow, you smell amazing, what is that?", while not sacrificing a passionate, artistic sort's own personal preferences? Are there any sexy, sensual, fabulous, AND appealing-to-the-masses scents in the lab? -
Has anyone tried mixing BPAL in a scentless lotion, rather than an oil? Did that work for you? I would LOVE to have a lotion that smells like some of mine!

Where is my order? What is Click N Ship? How long does this take?
Medievalmaniac replied to Snow White's topic in BPAL FAQs
Ooooh, I see. Thanks.~ Has anyone ever had a click 'n' ship that didn't update much? I received my C n S notification last week Friday, but the message has not been updated at all - says the post office has been directed to expect the package. I know it was a Labor Day weekend...will they update it when it has shipped, or when it is delivered, or not at all because of government budget cuts preventing employees from working in the offices...?! lol I'm very eager to try these out, as a newbie, so I'm DYING over here!!
