When you need something comforting or cheering

Creamy, sweet, musky, or spicy are always comforting to me: Antique Lace, Snake Oil, Morocco, Chimera, Bordello, O, and Dragon's Milk are coming directly to mind.

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

Some BPAL scents, IME, especially with vanilla, can vary from imp to imp and with age. I cannot say if it is a Lab issue or not, because I have only gotten multiples of imps from swaps. I say if it is fresh from the Lab, and you love it, use it up. See how it ages. I personally do not buy multiple bottles because the Lab mixes them fresh, and I prefer them that way. (Except for Blood Kiss~I like that better aged; It also has vanilla. I got an imp from a swap, LOVED it, bought a bottle fresh from the Lab, and it was not the same. Months later, it is what I tried and fell in love with! Again, I blame the vanilla. Some swear it is the same for Snake Oil(see the Snake Oil thread). I like the fresh better there, though. Hunger is the same way: Fresh it is sharp and fruity, aged it is smoky vanilla, very Snake Oil-y). Good luck!

    Dragon's Musk

Mmmm, hmmmm! Like has been said: wet it is very dragon's bloody, a sweet, bright and fruity resin. Drying down, though, it sweetens up the orgy of musks and is, as I hoped, QUITE SMUTTY! Love, love, LOVE!

    Honey and Beeswax scents

Yeah, Skuld and Sed Non are MAJOR honey on me...

Spice me, baby! The spiciest BPAL blends

    Count Dracula!

Cake, cookies, donuts, baked goods, even Cinnabon

O is mostly honey and vanilla on me. Delish. Eat Me is cake and dark currents, but smells like cookies to me.

    Yankee Candle to BPAL

Amber Sunset is quite like the Lion.

Spice me, baby! The spiciest BPAL blends

Morrocco is spicy and light sweet musky.

    Snake Charmer

I missed this little gem when she was introduced, but I just received her in a swap. Instant love...I immediately think that this is Eat Me and Snake Oil's daughter. Sweet, dark, and sexy. Oh, yeah!

    Shanghai

Again, I was searching for the perfect summer honeysuckle. I just can't do lemon or tea. They just turn sour. That is not to say that this does not smell nice. It is just not at all for me.

    Rose Cross

    Roses. Thick and syrupy roses.

    New Orleans

Not as dark as I expected. This is a very yellow scent, like Eos. Heavy on the jasmine. The faintest touch of lemon and spice in the topnote, but it is mostly jasmine on me. I am doomed in my search for the perfect honeysuckle scent...

    Darkness

Darkness is quite like Hunger, without the orange (PLUS!). This is a great summer resin for me. I love narcissus; it is such a sexy, soft, round, sophisticated floral...almost edible. If you really want the narcissus to shine on her own, with a little smoky backup, give Darkness a sniffie. This one is a sleeper-I just don't know why there is not more to-do about her on the boards. She is so feminine and dark...vampy...so a la BPAL! Embrace the Darkness...divine submission.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

Is Dragon's Musk anything like Smut?

    The Premature Burial

I absolutely adore this scent. It is everything that I have looked, nay, sniffed for, in a truly gothic perfume. It has a similar deep earthiness, akin to Zombi, with a touch of the Nosferatu greenery. It is the drydown that is most spectacular; it is a slightly sweet, musky, creamy floral, much like Lancome's Poem...I could never imagined that my chemistry could handel all of this wood. It is divine. Uggggh...I must search out more. Damn you LE's!

    Libertine

Femme and earthy fresh, this is very floral, but a little masculine, too. Definately has that "natural" perfume smell. It reminds me of an old Victorian sitting room with fresh cut flowers. I know just the man that needs to wear this.

    Blood Moon 2005

... The feral scent of the heat of the chase, deep woods, undulating musks, brushed by forest herbs, crushed grains, and touched by blood-dimmed lunar oils. Wood and spice. This smells like autumn. Drying out, it becomes deep, sweet, rich, like some delightful holiday cake. It reminds me much of Sin and Dana O'shee together but with musk...mmmm... I was afraid of the woods,it is what prevented me from buying a bottle, but now I wished I had a vat!

    Wolfsbane

Very herbally in the imp. I know it is not for me. I will pass it on to DH who will give scents like this a chance. He likes it. Reminds him of juniper. Clean, alive, dark green, fresh herbal. Drying out it gets creamy and woody. It is much like how Gauko does on him...but not as complex or sexy. They have a similar sharp topnote and HOT wood in the base.

    Litha 2006

Litha is a sharp, bright floral at first that reminds me of Eos. Very sunny and spring-like. On the drydown, the florals turn to honey. A sweet, happy floral. Dried out, there is a bit of dry resin lingering, but it is not the incensy blend I was expecting. Too happy for me.

    Kumiho

At first this is lemony, like tea scents usually are for me. It is sharp and white and clean smelling, soapy like a big hunk of ginger cut open. It dries down to something remarkably close to White Linen.

    Lotus Moon 2006

Wet this is very sweet and fresh. I was afraid of the pine, but here, it is just a slightly dark green natural scent...not at all like the dreaded Pine Sol or a Christmas tree. The rose is subtle, dark, and wet. Dried out it is soft, rich, and powdery, mostly a blessed union of amber and lotus. It is very both understated and sophisticated. Lovely...

Nag Champa scent in a BPAL blend?

Gypsy Queen smells just like Nag Champa while it is wet, to me.

    Spirits of the Dead

This is clean and light and perfumey and is one of the closest BPAL's, I think, to "mainstream" perfume. That is to say, that it is complex, fresh, and sophisticated. It is lemony tea and then gets dusty (probably the orris), and yes, it is papery. The wood does not overpower at all. It is one of the few wood blends that do not smell like pencils. The tea is too sharp and sour for me, though. Dosen't smell dead enough.

    Gypsy Queen

Headshop. Like fresh Nag Champa. Resin and powdery florals and smoke. Then it dries down to the smell that is my crazy, pill addicted, sweaty neighbor. What the hell?! Sorry for the unencouraging review, but this is just TOO close to the way this guy smells! I wanted to love this.

    Bloodlust

Mmmm, I smell cinnimon and dragon's blood right off the bat. I can't wear cinnimon anymore (skin reactions), so this one is going to the boy right away. I will review it off his wrist. "Incense!" he cries with glee, and slathers. It is fresh and clean and deep and sweet all at the same time. I just love it when BPAL does that! (Lurid is MY current new fave that does that). The cinnimon is the dominant top note, but mellows out with the glorious red musk. It all really blends beautifully. Hot, spicy, lickable skin. This is like Sin and Blood Kiss come together, but fresher than either because of the vertiver.
