    Kuang Shi

I got this one for my little boy who loves anything Chinese or related to zombies. Perfect! I was a little afraid of the orange. It was very heavy wet, bitter and strong like oranges and their blossoms. Dried out though....oh! It rivals Fae for my fruity musky love. The mango is musky in itself, and then with the WHITE MUSK (mmmmmm....). I don't do woods well, but thankfully, they don't overpower here. It really makes it just a little masculine. If you are a musk and/or fruit lover you must try it.

    Pink Moon 2005

I never thought that I would like strawberry perfume. I thought, "too sweet, too cheap, too little girl". I was totally wrong here. I did not search this one down. It found me in a swap, but I assure you, it will NOT be leaving my possession! First sniff: Fresh strawberries and insence. Very unusual. On me:The carnations are spicy, the sugar is a little sweet, and the flowers make it just fresh enough. Oh, it is DIVINE. Dried down: Light herbs, like a meadow, and the sweet, tart juice of real strawberries. No plastic. I can't believe it. It is not too pink, not too bright, not too fruity. It is like my new rose colored velvet bolero that my friend thought was vintage. I love it. LOVE it.

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

Antique Lace is a vanilla floral skin scent, to me (it is my everyday, smells like me, go EVERYWHERE scent). I haven't tried Mouse' yet. It is low on my list because, as a general rule, woods smell like pencil shavings on me. Eat Me is foody, but dry and spicy. It is not buttery like Grog or Jack (which are the super foodies to me). The vanilla in the cake scents goes a bit plasticy on me after drydown, which AL absolutely does NOT do. The current in EM is fruity, but not as fruity or sweet as BPAL's plum note.

    Cordelia

The osmanthus and lilac with the woods make this very similar to Ouija to my nose. The lemon and tea make it sharper while wet, and the musk is creamy once it is dried down, but it is not the holy grail of lilac and musk that I was dreaming of.

    Eat Me

Wet this is super sweet cake, a sour squirt of currant, and something smokey that reminds me of Sugar Skull and Snake Oil-not what I was expecting at all, happily. As it dries out, the cake is a vague, dry vanilla sweetness, and it gets spicier, which is also unexpected. Hours later she is creamy and sweet, but with a depth comparable to amber, really. This is amazing, and better than the description if you love orientals like I do. Eat me is an instant favorite! I must have a big bottle. "Let them wear cake!"

    Nosferatu

A fresh, dark green wafts from the bottle...like a graveyard in the rain. Fresh wet, earth, dust, flower stems, and grass. It reminds me of Zombie, but more alive and fresh, as vampires are in comparison. On application, the wine is a bit fruity...delicious. Drying out, though, it is very grassy on me and DH.

    Lurid

This is one of the few perfumes EVER that are like an instant olfactory orgasm to me. It really is the beauty of Beth's blending. Just when I think that certain notes don't work on me, I get completely blown away... I love that. It keeps me coming back for more. A bit sharp and sweet in the bottle, but beautiful and fresh. The ozone (which I NEVER do) blends seamlessly with the lavender, while the currants (oh, divinity!)quirt their sour juice all over it. The resin (which is it? amber...oh, I don't care~just keep it coming!) is rich...dripping with sensuous sweetness. The white musk keeps the clean ozone quality through the drydown and combines with my skin in that way that only Beth's white musk can do... At the end it is powdery and musky, like the curtain call of a can-can show. MUST...have...a BIG....bottle....(pant, pant...). I have been wearing this blend to bed. Lavender does not usually relax me, but this blend really seems to. Plus, DH likes it, too. He says it smells like lavender and ass, and that is a good thing! Edited to add: From Dracula by Bram Stoker(1897): "But the Count! Never did I imagine such wrath and fury, even in the demons of the pit. His eyes were positively blazing. The red light in them was lurid, as if the flames of hell-fire blazed behind them. His face was deathly pale, and the lines of it were hard like drawn wires; the thick eyebrows that met over the nose now seemed like a heaving bar of white-hot metal. With a fierce sweep of his arm, he hurled the woman from him, and then motioned to the others..." (pg. 36). The hell-fire of currents and smoke, the white-hot combination of musk and ozone...the fierce power and sexual magnitude...this is the perfect scent description. Thank you, Beth. I think you did your homework!

    Hymn to Proserpine

This one broke my heart. I thought it would be a rich, pomegranate, musky golden amber from the other reviews...it was, and I hate to say it, "like a craft store" on me.
  9. Sacred Whore is a spicy white floral~very creamy and heady. Hunger is my favorite floral (narcissus and orange blossom). Alice is light and fresh but not green with her roses, carnation, and milk and honey. Morocco has carnation and creamy spices. YUM! I love florientals!

    Highwayman

I think this is a great name for something that smells like a bum that fell asleep under a parked semi at a truck stop. It is not even the slightest bit pleasent on me...
  11. lookingglass

    The King of Hearts

Cherry, lavender and musk...clean and sweet and sexy. Unfortunately it dried out to something remarkably similar to mildew on both me and DH. Is that the rosewood? You know I can't do wood, right... Another one that I so wanted to love...

    Szepasszony

Why am I trying all of these aquatics? Because it is summer and I want something cool and clean smelling. Know here, though, that they just don't do it for me, and so if you love aquatics please skip this review. This smells citrusy at first...like grapefruit. With some little clean flowers that are just too fresh and white. Then there is the Mr. Clean aquatic notes. I so wanted to love this.

    The Mock Turtle's Lessons

Wet: Mint (!) and apple. Reminds me of toothpaste and dishsoap. Drying out, the sharp aquatics come out all soapy with the iris. Smells like something to clean with, not a perfume for this girl.
  14. Antique Lace...every time. And if one man in the room has the balls to tell me I smell wonderful (or divine or delicious or like dessert) then others within noseshot all concur.

    Grandmother of Ghosts

In the vial I get orange and that nutty scent that follows many wood blends. I am scared. Woods are not good on me, and I WANT to love this one!!! On, the orange is bright and there is a bite of pepper. Sweet and sour and spicy... Love it like Thai food. For a few moments it is all wood and I am afraid that I will smell like a pencil case that someone has spilled juice in. No go. The lilies, peony and musk are thankfully close behind, becoming deep, creamy, clean and sweet, while the pepper gives this a smokey edge. This is a more complex, deeper play on everything I love about Ouija. It is a translucent floral with sex appeal, but a little heavy on the wood for my chemistry.

    Enraged Orangutan Musk

Deep, strong, sexy musk. Like man musk... Drying out, the jungle notes brighten the feral scent a bit, a bit of an orange glowing green scent. I am wearing ambergris and loving it! Dried out, this reminds me of Chanel #5. Really. It has that old time perfumey feel, but also smells great on DH.
  17. When I was a teenager I really liked patchouli and heavy resins. I have found that I now enjoy greater complexity. My sister, though, who is now a teenager, loves aquatics. It really just depends on the individual.
  18. lookingglass

Wine, Beer, Rum, Bourbon... the booze scents

What is the Elizabeth Bathory scent?....Blood Countess? Plumy and boozy (and a little scary, at least on me). Worth a look.
  19. lookingglass

    The High Priestess

This smells like almond. But like all BPAL almonds, it dries out almost instantly to...pennyroyal? No ma'am.

    Maiden

This is Alice's sharp-tongued twin sister. They share carnation and rose, and the tea is a bit citrusy, quite like the bergamot in Alice, which makes them very similar. The white tea in Maiden, though, is much more dominant. It is very fresh, bright, and clean, making this a more "yellow scent" (to Alice's "dusty rose" color, IMO). The biggest difference to me is that Maiden is missing the deep creaminess of Alice's milk and honey, and doesn't have much of a base note to hold it all together. This would be a great Spring or Summer scent, but Alice really does it for me already; I am passing it on to my younger sister.
  21. Mad Hatter is what I use. It has pennyroyal and lavender, which are known bug repellants, and it works and smells fabulous!

Autumn Scents - recommend the ones you love

Smoky~ooh, Brimstone! My favorite apple right now is Phantom Queen. The others (Verdandi, Hesperidies), were too sweet for me. Yeah, hard to belive 'eh? Snake Oil~I am a broken record. Have you tried it? I am hopeing that Hymn to Proserpine will be my "it" scent for fall. Along with Eat Me and Frumerous Bandersnatch...I will have to wait and see! (Squee!)

    Sybaris

Upon application the violet is both freshly green and sweet...very true violet. Drying out it becomes increasingly creamy and spicy, but not too, as Morocco is creamy and spicy. It is reminicent of dragon's blood in it's sweetness and depth, slightly fruity. DH says it smells like "nice candies and sex". Violets and tonka...a magical combination. It fits in nicely to my collection of resins and musks, as it is not too floral, but undeniably violet. A pleasent, powdery skin scent.

    Fire of Love

Like Czernobog, that has a similar black musk/civit note with a sharp almost herbal green topnote, this smells like someone trying to clean up a decomposing body. Gag.
  25. lookingglass

    Eternal

Increadibly thick, sweet, strong white floral. It smells remarkably like Sacred Whore but without the spice.
