    Water Snake

Oh, gosh...I've had this one for a while and forgot to review it! My bottle is almost all gone! In the bottle it's very bubble-gummy, very sweet. I remember being a little put off at first, but I stuck through it. After a while the sweetness calms down a bit and it gets more floral/herbal. I was surprised that dragon's blood is in it because I don't do well at all with resinous notes. If I can ever find this one again, I will get it. I love it.

    Fairy Thorn

In the bottle this smells fruity and flowery, with maybe just a tiny hint of something....different. After application, that different vibe seems to turn up a little bit. It's hard to pin down, but it works with the fruits and flowers. I love this scent. I've had it for a while now and it's one of my favorites.

    Windward Passage

In the imp and freshly applied, it's very sharply marine...almost artificially so. While I've never been to the Caribbean, I do live in Florida, and the sea breezes smell more humid and organic than this. Maybe it's more of an open ocean scent than a beach scent? Open ocean doesn't seem to be my thing, what with my seasickness and all. After a few minutes, this has become powdery blue artificial cheap drugstore ocean candle scent. Not for me. Ouch! That's the second of the Aquatic imp bundle I've had to bump to my sell/swaps pile.

    Rogue

In the imp, it seemed straight-up rosin to me, with a dusty herbal note. Just after application, the rosin softened, and I definitely got the leather. It's really beautiful, almost foody/spicy. It's sweeter than I thought it would be, and I like that. I thought it would be too masculine for my chemistry, but so far it's working pretty well. A fortuitous frimp!

    Amsterdam

In the imp, it's fresh watery green. When I first applied it, my fiancé called it "grandma-ish" and not particularly sexy, but pleasant. I rather like it. It's something I can wear to work and not be overpowering.

    Coral Snake (2006)

I've had this one for a while....not sure why I haven't reviewed it yet* because it is FABULOUS. It takes Snake Oil from smoldering sexy to fun sexy. This is my go-to going-out scent. It's sweet but not too sweet, fruity but not overpowering, and it's lasting. One of my most favorite scents. I can't wait to try the 2016 version. *Turns out I did review this two years ago. Whoops!

    Sea of Glass

In the imp this smelled blue. Bright, hard, blue. Like the ocean without all the lovely soft organic scents like fish, seaweed and sand. Maybe even a little bit like a beach-themed jar candle at Target. And maybe a little too sharp for me. I do love aquatics, though, so here I go... After a few minutes on, it started smelling like Zest soap (cue jingle..."YOU'RE NOT FULLY CLEAN UNLESS YOU'RE ZEST-FULLY CLEAN!!!" Did I just date myself? Yeesh). I don't think Sea of Glass and I agree. I almost feel like shards of soap are drifting up my nose. Now my eyes are starting to water. Not for me.

    Schrodinger's Cat

A paradoxical scent experiment! - tangerine, sugared lime, pink grapefruit, oakmoss, lavender, zdravetz, and chocolate peppermint. So in the imp and right after applying it was straight up sugary citrus. Not 100% my bag, but not bad. Now after about 10 minutes, it's calmed down and bit and the throw has almost diminished. It's very fizzy-smelling, and for a while it's almost like I'm getting pricked in the back of my throat. Sounds horrible, but it's really not. Maybe it's just the name playing with my head, but I really can't decide if I like this one or not. I think I do. I'll hang on to it for now.

    Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)

In the bottle and just applied, it's like a smoky, dusty Snake Oil. As it dries, it's also getting a little sharply green/floral. I do like this one, but it's definitely not a daytime/everyday scent. There's something a bit menacing but ultimately sexy about it.

    Beltane 2005-06

... It doesn’t matter where your faith lies, Beltane is sacred to us simply because we’re human. It is a celebration of new growth, rebirth, of the fertility of our land, our spirits and our bodies, and is a reminder of the joy in simply being alive. Celebrate life! Wind some flowers into your hair, dab a little oil behind each ear, toss the first petals of springtime onto your yard, and bless your garden the old fashioned way! I bought this last year through this forum. Wet and just applied, it's floral and a bit soapy. I don't mind soapy - clean is good. It's verdant and blossoming. There's a slight coolness to it, almost as if winter hasn't quite given up yet. It's what I imagine real seasons to be like - I live in Florida so we only get two seasons (hot and wet most of the year, cool and dry-ish the other 3 months). This is definitely Spring - the joyfulness of Winter's end, and the potential for tha burgeoning of Summer. Really delightful!

    Insula Ventorum

Cool, green, sharp. But there's a floral softness, too. Really fabulous.

    Blauer Mond

Oh, oh, oh. I want to like this one. It's got some aquatic and herbal notes I love, but the frankincense is not letting me enjoy them. It's all "HEY, HOW YA DOIN'? THE NAME'S FRANK. FRANK INCENSE. LEMME LIVE UP YOUR NOSE FOR A WHILE AND SMELL LIKE CHEAP YUCK." Frank and I don't get along. This is the first full bottle I've purchased that I"m most likely going to have to sell.

    Autumn Coolness

So I'm trying this one in my scent locket and I adore it. The green spiciness is what I get first, and sweet florals under that. It's lovely, cool and damp. Seems reminiscent of spring for me, as opposed to autumn, but I'm in Florida and our weather is weird.

    Coral Snake (2006)

In the bottle, it's crisp fruits. When I applied it, the creamy vanilla of Snake Oil joined the party and I smelled like a very sweet, creamy, spicy dessert. It's REALLY gorgeous. Sweeter and a little girlier than straight up Snake Oil. It's warming up now and more of the spice is surfacing and the fruits are retreating, but still foody. Like the little girl is growing up. I'm in love.

    The Sea Foams Blood

In the imp: Resinous and salty. Wet: Resinous and incensey. I don't do well with resins as a main note, even though I don't wear these scents directly on my skin. I'm trying to give this the benefit of the doubt, but I'm almost waiting for this one to turn to powder/diaper bag, or give me headaches/sneezes. As it warmed up, the resin calmed down and the salty water came forward a little more. I'm intrigued. I'll try it again when I'm sure that the nascent headache and sneeze aren't due to wine and allergies.

    Phosporous v5

I got this for sale on the forum. In the bottle - it was like slightly metallic lemon soda. Interesting, though the lemon gives me pause. I haven't done well in the past with straight-up lemon scents (as opposed to the broader "citrus" notes). Just an aside - I can't put any of the oils on my skin...I'll break out in hives. They either go on my clothes (which means a lot of laundry if I'm in the mood for trying a whole bunch of different scents) or in my new scent locket. I get pretty much the same effect with both. So as it warmed up in the locket, the lemon intensified, but not in a bad way. This is very refreshing and happy. I'm getting more metal, too. What an intriguing combination! This is an almost foody-lemon on me, and less like a cleaning-product-lemon (thank god). I like it. I don't know exactly when I'd wear it....maybe in the sweltering heat of a Florida summer when I feel the need for something cool and effervescent. Yeah...

    The Lady of Lake Ronkonkoma

There's a sharp or peppery note in the aquatic florals that I'm really digging. I love this one.

    The Cold Hour of Dawn

I get a great sweet-piney note at first with this one, with bright florals. My fiancé says it makes him "pine" for the fjords. As it dries, it's getting a dusty-cold feeling to it. Sort of in keeping with the Match Girl story - bright pine and flowers of her vision fade into a frosty memory as the cold Christmas in Copenhagen returns and she freezes to death. It's a sweet, lonely, girlish scent. I really love it.

    Pele

… This perfume embodies her gentler, benign aspect as the capricious Goddess of Dance: muguet and Hawaiian white ginger enveloped by warm, damp tropical blooms. In the imp - tropical flowers. Weird - when my brain hears "tropical" it automatically thinks "fruity" for some reason (mango, coconut, banana, etc). This has none of that, and I like that. Wowowowow - it's turning into a mixture of all the blooms I love...orange blossom, jasmine, gardenia. Not that I actually smell them, it's just so reminiscent of those. It's probably just something in my scent memory from summers in south Florida. After a while, there's something humid-green underneath the showy blooms. It's almost overwhelming. I think I'll keep her, and go easy.

    Chimera

In the imp - WHOA cinnamon! Cinnabon. LOL That pastry impression intensified when I put it on. But there's something there keeping it from being completely 100% foody to me. Maybe the resins? I don't get honeysuckle at all. After a few minutes the cinnamon goes from just-this-side-of-eye-searing to creamy and mellow. I like this one. It's totally different from the scents I usually go for - florals. Usually anything with resins (myrrh, copal) turns to diaper bag on me, so this was a pleasant surprise.

    Absinthe

In the imp I get straight up licorice and mint. The kind of mint that you can almost taste at the back of your nose. Not unpleasant. While putting it on, the mint was almost menthol-y, in that I could sense fumes wafting from me. Licorice is still there. I don't mind it, but my eyes and nose started to twitch. A few minutes into wearing it and I'm catching something or other (wormwood? cardamom?) sort of grounding it, making it a little more earthy, but I have to get all up in it to be able to catch it. It's really just all mint with licorice popping up to say hi. I don't think this one really works for me. It doesn't smell bad, it's just not something I would wear.

    Endymion

In the imp, the first impression I got was sweet celery. ?? Definitely floral-green. Nothing else stands out...nondescript flowers, no fruits to speak of (I was really looking forward to the pear note). After wearing it a few minutes, it's soapy-green. Not as sharp-green as Belladonna (which I love) and not as pretty floral-green as Leanan Sidhe (which I adore). I dunno. It's not bad, it's just not doing it for me. I'd feel ok giving this one up. EDIT: Actually, as this one began to wear on, I changed my mind. I think I'll keep it.

    The Death-Horse

The Elfin Hill always had the best drawings (Arthur Rackham, of course) out of all the stories in my Hans Christian Andersen book. This is an uncomplicated scent. It was really weak at first, but now as it's warmed up it's floral but a little hollow. Like death, maybe. I like it.
  24. ShannonElisabethJones

    Black Forest

This one was a little bizarre, but I ended up keeping it on for a while. Not too piney, but definitely deep-dark-foresty. Like you're about to meet all the evil witches the Brothers Grimm ever wrote about. Interesting - might not be an everyday scent, but I'll keep it.
  25. ShannonElisabethJones

    Shango

This was really cool, and so unlike what I usually wear. Sooooo fruity at first...it never really goes away, but something a little more herbal and maybe a little threatening slides in. I like it!
