I bet it is pretty hard for the Lab to get you a response to this, as there are *so* many scents and new ones are constantly being added. Add to that the fact that they would pretty much have to already have the oils split into these categories somewhere to give you an answer. They are so busy that I just have a feeling that nobody has the time to categorize 400 some (I think?) current oils. The catalog is probably simply too huge to do this. Sorry, as I know that's not what you wanted to hear. Maybe somebody else has a more satisfying answer!

At first sniff in the bottle, this was all light, sweet chocolate and honey to me, with a slight floral note. In wearing for the first 15 minutes or so, I was really concerned because this did not smell complex at all. I slathered liberally (unusual for me) because this seemed so light that I could hardly smell it on my skin. I was really worried that it would disappear in 5 minutes. Hold on! What's this? After a few minutes, the sweet pomegranate really came out in all its fruity glory. It really brightened up and sharpened beautifully. Now I can smell it! All is not lost. I really don't get any of the spiciness that Imbrium described. On me, it is all sweet, warm, bright fruitiness. Almost smells like sweet, ripe berries on me. Alas, I do wish this had more "throw", and I don't feel compelled to order another bottle, but I will gladly wear it.

Oh my goodness! This is beautiful, lightly sweet blend. It is not at all too heavy to wear in this blistering heat, for which I am grateful. On me, this is almost pure cotton candy. This is just fine by me, as the only scent I wear besides BPAL is Aquolina's Pink Sugar, which is far too sweet for many to bear. Back to midway... I get a hiint of saltiness (peanuts? funnel cake?) in the background, but the sweetness of the cotton candy definitely steals the show here. No two ways about it: I am in love with this stuff! I will have to order another bottle before the collection is taken down.

I *would* like to know what this smells like; it's one of my favorite songs on that album! Snake Oil, maybe? Snake Oil is warm, but it has all of the other qualities present in that song: sex, sweetness, exotic spiciness. I'll have to start paying more attention to what I want to listen to when I am wearing certain scents.

This was one of my first big bottles, but I forgot to ever review it! Actually, I don't reach for this one too often, as it is *very* strong on me and I have to be in just the right mood to wear it. Queen Mab is not as complex on me as others have noted, and I certainly don't get any fruitiness from it, either. It is a very strong, clear rose on me with some serious spiciness shining through. The spiciness is not foody, it is more akin to carnations. In fact, I would almost swear that there is carnation in this blend, but that is not listed as one of the notes. I wonder which note might be masquerading as carnation to my nose? As I said before, this is super strong on me. It is nearly too feminine for me, as well. It is the rare day that I am in the mood for this one, but when I am in the mood for it, it is heady and wonderful.

I really like amber. I really like musk. However, this combo, while a great sniff in the bottle, turned icky on my skin. After a couple of minutes, I was only haunted by the scent of powder and soap. Not what I was hoping for... Bad chemistry, bad chemistry.

In the bottle, Kumiho is everything I love: clean, tart, energizing, light, spicy, and citrusy. I wish the promise that exists in the bottle delivered on my skin. Sadly, Kumiho lasts all of 5 minutes on me. I am definitely conservative when it comes to applying BPAL (I am only a "slatherer" with a few scents ), however, I could bathe in Kumiho and it would still fade instantly into oblivion on me.

Ah, sweet Ophelia... I do not get the sharp tang that others get with this, at all. On me, it reminds me of candied violets, sweetly sparkling with sugar. It is a round, full, and soft scent on me. I can see Ophelia floating on her back in the water with flowers and leaves entangled in her hair. This is what I reach for when I want to feel girly but fresh, light, cool, and innocent. It does, as another reviewer said, have a very healthy amount of throw. Although it is light, its fullness provides a pleasant headiness. This will be a big bottle on my next order.

Vice was the first swap I ever received. I tried it a loooong time ago, but never reviewed it. As much as I wanted to love it, this was the worst BPAL scent ever on me. I got no chocolate/orange/cherry goodness from it at all. Instead, I got a strong whiff of artificial popcorn. WTF? Was my bottle bad? I know that Beth did not formulate this to smell like popcorn. There is no explanation for my experience, but sadly, it was pure yuck.

I can't believe I've never reviewed this! It is a leftover "tarted" imp from my very first order. Honeysuckle is one of my favorite scents ever, so filled with nostalgia for me. There is almost nothing that makes me happier than passing a honeysuckle vine and inhaling deeply. Makes me feel like I'm six years old again. That said, I also love jasmine because I find it so calming and uplifting. However, sometimes I find it a bit too heady in scents. This is a strong floral on me, but not headache inducing or obnoxious at all. I really don't get the lavender not at all from this one. It is just a lovely blend of jasmine and honeysuckle, and although it's not listed in the description, my nose is fooled into thinking there is also some wet rose in here. When I smell Twilight, I can quite vivdly see an overgrown (but in a good way) flower garden at its summer peak behind a white picket fence, covered with a mist from the garden hose.

When your favorite GC blends are discontinued

I hate to start a thread for this alone, but I wasn't sure where else it would be appropriate, and I didn't find an similar thread, so here goes. I fell in love with the imp of Antique Lace that was so kindly included in my last order. It is about half used up now, so I am starting to "jones." One thing I love about it so much is that it lasts ALL DAY on me, which is truly a rarity. But even more, I just enjoy the warm vanilla goodness that I find so comforting. Is there anything even close to this? I am a sucker for vanilla scents and, sadly, I never got to try the vanilla single note. I hear that a lot of people are sad that Antique Lace has gotten the axe. So, what would people recommend instead? -
Got an imp of this with my last order in March. I wasn't expecting to like it, but I really love it! I get a warm, soft, foody vanilla with hints of sugar and something light and floral floating underneath. I do also catch a whiff of something alcoholic in the background. It works well with my chemistry, and I find it very comforting. Hope this one comes back, perhaps reformulated?

This one is definitely going on my big bottle list! I don't think I'd wear in it weather that is too warm (ie. summer), but for slightly cooler times, this is an incredible slightly sweet, spicy blend. Actually, it reminds me a bit of one of the few "commercial" perfumes that I still have a bottle of: Dior Addict. It must have some noted in common with that scent, although thankfully, Morocco is not quite as strong and does not have that "artificial/synthetic" feeling to it.

This oil had never jumped out at me as something I might like from reading the lab's description. I got it as a freebie in my Spooky order. I am almost certain that I will order a large bottle with my next order. I love it! Wet, I smell the cool, slightly bitter green tea very strongly and I also think that I smell some cucumber, but I could be imagining it. Maybe it is just the overall gree, coolness that gives me the cucumber impression? As it dries down, I am left with the green coolness, but the lovely, sparkling citrus note comes through more clearly. I don't think it is grapefruit; nothing quite that "in your face." More like a subtle lemon/lime smell. This is going to be a summer staple for me, I think. Perfect for those "too hot to move" days. I am in love! ADDED April 29: The Apothecary could definitely be a Spring/Summer favorite for me! It is *the* greenest of light greens. Wet, I get very strong grass (what I would deem "sweet" grass; no real bitterness to my nose), lime, and a hint of light floral. As it dries, I lose the grass and some of the citrus and the floral abounds, but not in an overwhelming, heavy way. It's funny, because this is not really what I picture when I hear the word "apothecary." I see test tubes, beakers, shiny wooden counters, and lots of tiny drawers. So, now I see the same picture with tufts of grass strewn here and there!

Yep, as many others have said, wet it is Thin Mints, straight up! As this drys down on me, I still smell the mint first, but then the sweetness of the coconut really comes through. I can sense that the chocolate and rum are there, too, but this is so wonderfully blended that neither of those notes sticks out. To me, this is comforting and satisfying. I spent all day smelling my wrist. This scent lasts well, but it is not overwhelming or cloying.

I had such high hopes for Dorian! I was *sure* that I would love it from reading the other reviews (especially Andra's). It was the first scent I rushed to try in the order I received today. Alas, on me it turns really powdery. I get a slight whiff of vanilla in the backgound, but no tea. The overwhelming scent, though, is pure, old lady powder. It is kind of like a Nilla Wafer dipped in old lady dusting powder on me. Oh, well. I won't give up yet. I'll try it again in a few days and see if it is a chemistry thing. If it doesn't get better, up fo swap it'll go! Edited to add: OK, now that it's been a while and I have tried it again, it is one of my favorites! It smells very different on me now, much less powdery and more complex. I am flying through this imp and I love layering it with Snake Oil.

On me, O is soft and rounded and smells of milk chocolate! While I haven't read all of the reviews here for O, I haven't heard anyone else mention the chocolate phenomenon in other threads, so I am really surprised! I was expecting the smell of "sex in a bottle", but to me, sex has never smelled like chocolate (or food for that matter). Other people mentioned that on them O is very strong and long lasting. Again, I seem to be in the minority on this one. I am not usually a slatherer, but this scent is pretty understated on me, and it is not long-lasting, so I will probably only get a couple of wears out of this imp. While this is not in any way repulsive to me, I don't like smelling of chocolate, so I will not repurchase this one. Edited to add: Look at that! I just read Byrdie's review above: another milk chocolate experience! I am not crazy...

This is a really strong, green floral on me. I can definitely smell the moss and aquatic tones, but more than that, there is a sharp, floral overtone. A coolness is there in the background, but it is a heavy floral on me. A little bit of this one lasts quite a long time on me. This is nice, but it may be a bit too overpowering for me to wear very often.

Received this as a thoughtful freebie in a swap. Wet: Holy mint, batman! Mint, with a floral background. Drydown: The non-descript floral note that I detected under the mint when wet is now emerging as a lovely, sparkling rose. Dry: More rose than mint, now. Almost a pure rose to my nose, but with a fresh sprig of minty coolness lurking in the background. Overall impressions: I did not expect this blend, judging from the name alone. It is a simple scent, but with a nice, light, clean spirit. I did notice upon wearing it today that I was not as "annoyed" by all of the things in the daily grind that usually get me down (crowded trains, hyper teenagers), but was more able to live in the moment and consider the uniqueness of the day's situations. A nice effect!

I must have whacked-out chemistry because on me this smells strongly of cherries. I get a cough-syrupy smell from this one. I can't imagine where that is coming from. I get a little bit of spice in the background, but not enough to counter the stifling sweetness. It does mellow out after an hour or so and lose some of its cherry pungency, but I will not purchase this one.
-
I don't really get much of the coffee smell at all with this one. What I come out with is really more of a straight-up floral with a mellow spiciness, but it lasts a nice, long time on me without being overwhelming. If I try really hard, I can pick up on the tonka and fig. Really nice. This one might become a new staple for me.

This is such an overwhelmingly rich and warm scent. It's not something that I can really see myself wearing on my skin, but this one could drive me to buy an oil diffuser this Fall. If I were to wear it as a perfume, I can't help but think that it might be useful in my profession as a teacher, both to add a note of comfort to my classroom and my person, as well as perhaps bribing adolescents into compliance. I might like to try this one in the bath... On me, it is like an oatmeal cookie. (If I were dieting to lose weight, I think this might make me feel full and sated, thus avoiding overeating/snacking). I can really smell the caramel coming through as it dries down. It is a bit sharp at first, and while I don't think it contains cinnamon, I almost smell a strong cinnamon note, at first. This one makes me so ready for Fall!

I do love this bright, clean smell. The lemon seems more "limey" to my nose, though, which is good, because I don't get the whole Lemon Pledge effect that so many seem to experience. Unfortunately, just like Kumiho, which I also love, this has no staying power on me. It makes me so sad that only the spicy, foody scents or the deeper florals last on me.

Can I suggest a neighborhood or two for you? They are both within walking distance of UNM and I have lived in both neighborhoods. You have to be kind of careful in Albuquerque, b/c it is actually a high crime city (lots of property crimes)due to poverty and gangs. I feel more safe walking around NYC alone than I did in Albuquerque. Try to look at places in the neighborhood a bit south of campus, on streets like Vassar SE in the vicinity of the intersection with Santa Clara. It is far enough away from UNM to not be the student ghetto. NIce and quiet with lots of trees and a great park. You could also check out the neghborhood directly east of campus. If you take Campu Blvd. and cross Carlisle Ave., thee are some nice houses and relatively quiet neghborhoods to the north after you cross Carlisle. Hope this helps!

I am fairly confident in saying that in the long run, I think sticky labels would be much easier and more cost effective. True, some time would have to be spent in the beginning designing the labels, but after that, I am thinking that large batches could be printed on a laser printer (or by a professional printer) and they would be adhesive, peel off types, so no cutting would be involved. Then, it would only be a matter of sticking them on the vials, not tying a tag to the strings, tying the strings round the vials, cutting the strings to length, and fraying them. At least, this is what I am envisioning... However, who knows if Elizabeth would consider this. I guess I feel weird "planning" such minute details, as we don't even know if Beth is considering changing anythign like this, as she is the business owner, right? Ultimately, it is her company (unless Iam unclear and she has business partners) and I'm sure she will do what she thinks is best.
