    The smell of night

I second Moon Rose. It's one of my new favorites. Juliet also reminds me of a garden on a summer night, full of fresh-smelling white lillies

    Iambe

Daughter of Pan and Echo and dear friend to Demeter. When Demeter was mourning the abduction of her daughter, Iambe was the only creature in heaven and earth that was able to lend cheer and laughter to the grieving mother. Her scent is one of comfort, beauty and joy: Sudanese amber, patchouli, rose, gardenia, gladiola and white tea. See, gardenia and I have this thing. It's nauseated me ever since I OD'd on Sacred Ho in the infancy of my BPAL addiction, and it usually amps waaay up and tends to ruin a bunch of blends for me (Veil, for example). But in Iambe, the gardenia is soft and light and actually quite nice. It started out with a few seconds of something funky-smelling, then bloomed into a greenish floral, mostly rose and gardenia. I don't get very much amber or patchouli, but I think that's my skin amping the florals. Overall, I like it, and I suspect that even non-BPAL-loving people with more traditional perfume tastes would like it, too.

    Morocco

Wow! I was a little wary of trying this because I remember someone comparing Morocco to Scherezade (which I like but which is too heavy for me to wear). I got Morocco as a frimp in my last order, though, and now I'm loving me some labbies! Morocco is, as other reviewers have said, creamy spice, but there is something beautiful and comforting about this scent. Where Scherezade is the romanticized, exotic version of the East, Morocco is like one's fond memories of a home long ago. It's completely wearable, even for someone who doesn't do heavy scents (like me ). Soft, spicy, and gorgeous! Glad I got to try this one; it looks like a bottle is in my future
  4. Haunted Palace reminds me of Tamora, but with orange instead of peach. I kind of like it better

    Eau D'Issey

I've never tried Eau D'Issey (though I've wanted to for a while) so these probably aren't perfect matches. It seems like a few of the Illyria blends have similar notes, though. Ophelia: "Wistful and vulnerable: lotus, water blossom ivy, stargazer lily and white rose." Desdemona: "Innocent, soft and pure: sweet pea, carnation and water lily." Szepasszony doesn't have notes listed, but "A chilly, tempestuous whirlwind of clear, airy notes, slashing rain, and a thin undercurrent of white flowers" sounds like an aquatic floral to me, so this might be the best match. I'd say try to track them all down, because I'm sure they're all beautiful blends even if they're not exactly like Eau D'Issey

What do bottles and labels look like?

Oooo, beeyootiful! Thanks so much, Ninevah!

    Dorian

    I. love. Dorian And I love Beth for creating it! There's only so much I can say. The vanilla is just gorgeous, with just a hint of tea lurking behind it. I'm not a fan of white musk, but I love it here. Dorian's just a nice scent, comforting but sexy. Just do yourself a favor and get your grubby mits on an imp by whatever means possible.

    Aglaea

I can smell the fruit and booze right off the bat. Aglaea is similar to Tamora, definitely (if you like one you’ll probably like the other), but it’s lighter and sweeter, playful as opposed to sultry. The amber doesn’t come out until the drydown, but when it does, it’s really beautiful. I really like Aglaea, but I already have a bottle of Tamora, so… I'll be good and content myself with an imp.

    Beatrice

I don’t really get the spicy rose that other reviewers are describing. To me, Beatrice smells like rose with a fresh scent that smells almost like watermelon. Pleasant, beautiful rose, but I’m not getting any of TEH EVILLE FLOWERZ that some of you got…chemistry, what can I say? *shrugs* Having said that, it is still a very gorgeous, “deep” rose scent, and I usually don’t get along with florals so this is something special. Keeping the preciouss, yesss.

    Bathsheba

I like this. Sweet, fruity plum and a generous amount of carnation. Despite the carnation and musk, it’s still nice, light, softly-sexy scent. The plum doesn’t last as long as I wish it would (only a few hours), but while it’s there, Bathsheba is a lovely scent. Might eventually be a 5 mL when I run out of my other plummy love—Snake Charmer ETA: Herongale mentioned "Hallelujah"; I think of that song, too, but the Rufus Wainwright version

    Snake Charmer

Dark musk, sweet plum, and a hint of vanilla (from the benzoin). Snake Charmer is certainly sexy, but in an earthy, guileless kind of way—I don’t feel like it would be too heavy for day, but it’s still an excellent scent for a night out. I can see the comparisons with Snake Oil, but Snake Oil didn’t wow me in the way that Snake Charmer does. I get all kinds of compliments when I wear this one, and I love it madly .It’ll be a very sad day when I use all mine up! Give it a try if you can! And if anyone has extra bottles to sell... you know where to find me

Gourmand - Foody Scents - General Recommendations

Sounds like your tastes are veeery similar to mine. I'll have to try Moon Rose now I second/third/whatever Dorian and Tamora for vanilla scents, all the way. You might also want to try Queen Mab if you like orchid and sweet florals. There's no vanilla in it, but the orchid has got a sweet quality to it that's almost foody and Dorian-esque (at least on me).

Oh, good—I have hope now! *runs off to re-plan next order*

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

Ivy, I just had the same thing happen a few weeks ago! I'd never had problems with any of the oils (except Inferno, of course), and had even tried Jailbait on the week before with no problems, but I still got red, itchy blotches on my neck and wrists from wearing Jailbait for, oh, five minutes There's no cinnamon or anything listed in the ingredients, but I remember that it smells a little cinnamony on the drydown and a few of the reviews seem to agree, so that might be it. I wouldn't mind except that I'm afraid to try Chimera now, since I'm positive it'll have more cinnamon than Jailbait and I'd rather avoid more reactions...
