The King of the White Cloth, King of the Orishas, the First Among Equals. He is the King of Power, and his weapon is wisdom. He is the essence of honored maturity, wisdom through age and experience, purity of intention, virtue, humility, tolerance, judicious use of power, the knowledge of what is truly right and wrong, the moral code, and the obligation to do what is right. Obatala is the Creator God, who first fashioned mankind from clay; thus, he is also the first sculptor and potter. The human head itself is Obatala’s creation, and it is through it that he grants us the ability to discern genuine morality as opposed to oppressive, mistaken and arrogant self-righteousness. His is not the falsehood of societal boundaries, His Truth is the understanding of one’s own character and the obligations that we all have to our world, our Gods, and one another. He is the Benevolent Judge, calm and lucid, and he governs rational deliberation. His color is white, as His spirit is free from any soil or stain, and His energy radiates sanctified purity, great wisdom, happiness and internal peace. He is associated with cloth, as that was one of His gifts to mankind. The aspects of Obatala are symbolized by the chameleon, boa constrictor, elephant, gorilla, and snail. Obatala is the Lord of Laughter, for it is through wisdom that one may see the joy in life, and through laughter we are able to see the follies of mankind not with cynicism and derision, but with humor, compassion and understanding. Obatala’s Laughter helps soothe the pain of life’s rigors, and takes the sting out of the harshest of life’s lessons. Obatala’s ofrenda is soft, white and pure: milk, coconut meat, shea butter and cool, refreshing water. out of the imp : sweet, milky coconut wet on skin : still the sweet, milky coconut but with a aqatic touch dry on skin : the coconut dies down a bit (this coconut meat is not nearly as powerful as the coconut in black pearl or blood pearl) and i can really start to smell the shea butter. overall : This is an amazing scent for the summer! It's very refreshing and has the coconut meat to give it a tropical twist. Definatly a 5ml purchase in the near future! NOTE: This review thread is for the BPAL Excolo scent. Reviews for the Twilight Alchemy Lab oil of the same name can be found here. --Shollin

I've been wondering this for a while, too. Will the Oval Portrait ever come back to DD or was it an LE? Anyone have any insight? Thanks -

i'm having trouble finding y'ha-nthlei which i just recieved an imp of in my latest order ... can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks!

I wouldn't mind wearing this every day. It's lovely ... light, sweet, fresh, green & musky. I find it difficult to pick out the notes. I think it's a wonderfully blended perfume which will win many people over I spilled my imp all over my jeans so I ordered a bottle this morning ... I think I'll be wearing it quite a bit.
-
hmm i can't find this imp ... "lilium inter spinas" anyone know where it is on the website? TIA

omg this smells so good ... instant love!!! this is one sexy blend, in my opinion. it is very well blended, so it's hard to pick out individual notes. i get the muskiness, plum and the champagne grapes sweetened (sugar cane & honey) but the rest of the notes aren't jumping out at me ... it just smells goooood. i was afraid of the honey turning funny on me, but it didn't. i also feared the wine, because i haven't had any luck with wine blends before (they make me feel ill) but this one is working out fine. i definatly reccomend at least checking out an imp if it sounds even slightly interesting to you.

The scent out of the bottle scared me a bit because as much as I want Jack to work for me, after several tries I know it never will ... and this smells a lot like Jack while wet. However, it's much less buttery and has a great spicyness that tempers the sweet buttery pumpkin perfectly. This smells like a delicious spicy pumpkin pie when it dries on me. I love it!

If you like Samhain but wanted something darker this is it! I love it, it's everything I was hoping Samhain would be ... It's dark, brooding, earthy, spooky ... the perfect chilly fall night scent

This is like Skadi or Snow Moon meets Nocnitsa. Piney, snowy, dirty. This smells like walking through a pine forest in mid winter. I like it - this will probably be a bottle purchase sometime in the future.

Scents close to Alabaster (Banana Republic)?
blackheartedangel replied to neuilly's topic in Recommendations
i don't know of alabaster, but try the lion if you're into amber! -
the ones i recieved today (mme moriarty, phantom calliope and candy butcher are all miniatures of the artwork! i love them!

I was accidentally shipped this instead of Midnight on the Midway, so I may as well review Out of the bottle CHERRY! That scares me a bit, but I want to try it anyway. As soon as the drydown begins, the cardamom makes a strong appearance. The patchouli is definatly there, but it's not overwhelming. I don't know the smell of cassis, just that it's a berry. I think my nose is probably combining it with the smell of cherry. Overall this is definatly a very strong, spicy, slightly sweet blend. Not for the weak at heart!

In the bottle this smells almost like nutella! In the first few minutes after it has been applied, I started to smell a weird plasticy smell But after a phase it dried down to sweet creamy cocoa, much less intense than the smell out of the bottle. Yum.

Nag Champa scent in a BPAL blend?
blackheartedangel replied to girlmadasbirds's topic in Recommendations
if you can get your hands on Hellion, you'd probably love it! it's an oil which is exclusive to the trading post, and comes with the imp statue "seamus." you may be able to find an imp on the swaps thread, though. also i second scherezade, and you may want to try spellbound and/or the cracked bell (a yule limited edition - another you'll have to look for on the swap thread) as well -
First, I smell the black musk (it smells very much like the dark musk in enraged orangutan) and the vetiver. I can also pick out the leather, ginger, pepper and a slight bit of champaca. Honestly, this is so well blended that I'm having a hard time describing it. To me it's a beautiful spicy, smooth, dark leathery incense! I don't know how much I would actually wear it, but yum, it does smell pretty good. I could see this being a great blend for guys as well. A bottle will be under consideration.

Out of the imp, this smells like an airy white floral with a green edge. Beginning to drydown, a hint of sweetness (honeysuckle) becomes apparant as well as the calla lily. I'm so glad that the jasmine and lavender didn't take over the blend, which is what I was worried would happen. They are there, but sitting in the backround behaving . When it's completely dry, I get more of a sense of the night time air, and the grey amber. Overall, I love it. It's a cool white floral, not too sweet and not cloying at all. The grey amber and nighttime air really ground the blend, and I find it very elegant yet slightly dark. As others have mentioned above, this really smells like a garden at night. Bottle please!

Out of the imp, this smelled like a sickly sweet honey wine ... the scent didn't bode well. I dared to put it onto my skin anyway ... Now my arm smells kind of like standing in a craft store in front of 50 different kinds of potpouri. Fruity, spicy, sweet craft store smells. This oil ain't my thang ... off to swaps it goes!

In the imp, this is definatly a sharp, menacing dark scent. The juniper and cypress stick out, but with something softer and resinous behind it (benzoin/labdanum) During the drydown, the aquatics (rather dark) come out as well as the slight sweetness of the florals and the golden resin note. The juniper and cypress die down just a bit, but it's still a very dark woody/green scent (I can smell a very soft sandalwood note also and I suppose I'm smelling yew but I can't pick it out as I'm not very familiar with the scent.) Overall, I'm really liking the Isle of the Dead. I think it would be a great scent for the fall or summer nights. It's strange in the sense that it envokes both dark (aquatics/woods) and light (florals/resins) feelings in me at the same time, and I can't think of another BPAL oil offhand that has had that same effect. I will definatly be buying a bottle of this one!

I might have missed it, but I didn't see anyone mention Niflheim : "The House of Mists, a land of icy fog, shadowy darkness and soul-chilling cold. Dark, damp blossoms winding through an impenetrable, murky gloom."

awesome, because i lurve my dragon moon tee thanks macha
-
what does the dragon moon label look like? is it like the shirt?

sniffie from the bottle = vanilla buttercream frosting and rum candies! wet on skin = immidiatly begin to smell the dryness of sandalwood, still creamy vanilla rummy goodness. dry on skin = slight spice of saffron appears, rum backs off a bit, vanilla and sandalwood going strong ... overall impression =

twenty one reminds me of a martini or a gin & tonic ... very refreshing & crisp, but not something i would wear regularly. still, the description is spot on!

Have you tried Black Forest? "This is the captured scent of a cold, moonless night, lost deep within the darkest wood. Haunting and desolate, this scent evokes images of fairy tale tragedy and half-remembered nightmares. Thick, viscous pine with ambergris, black musk, juniper and cypress." Black Opal is the closest to a 'stone' scent that I have come across. Nocnitsa is also a great foresty scent (and has a dirt note) like a dark, damp evergreen forest. Tempest is my favorite 'rain' scent so far, but you may also like Hurricane or Lightning. Bayou is very swampy, but not in a gross way. that's all that is coming to mind at the moment
