Cypress, oak, and pine covered in 2-ply! In the bottle: The Wiley Grasser is that you? This is the same pine with cotton candy combo that I got out of the Wiley Grasser. Dry: This is definitely a morpher. The pine takes a back seat and a clean soft cotton scent appears. It's warm and cuddly and yes, papery.

Yes! I bought a bottle right after they went up, then bought a back-up right before they came down, and there's a definite difference in color. I haven't tested them side-by-side, but if there's a difference in scent I didn't pick up on it when wearing them separately. This was raised in the LJ comm as well, and made me really curious about the lighter oil one--some have said it's a somewhat orangey oil as opposed to red. Is there any marked difference between the two? Both bottles I bought had red oil (I bought a second one later, hoping just in case I get the other variation!), and to me it reacted rather the same as how red musk reacts on my skin. I passed it off as the amber when I skin tested my first bottle. The second bottle is the same. I'm quite~ curious as I was super sure this was going to be a winner for me based on notes, but was quite disappointed at the result (i.e. powdery red musky sort of scent). Good to know I'm not imagining things . The lighter oil is really almost colorless and you can see through it in the bottle the other one isn't see through at all in the bottle. They both start out smelling pretty much the same. Dry, the red version ends up smelling a bit like orange blossom . It's definitely sharper than the colorless version. The colorless version smells more of honey and vanilla. Though I must say that the differences are rather small on my skin. I can see where you get the red musk from Angela. I was checking for it too when I first smelled Blossoms in Springtime, I guess it's the antiquated amber...?

Hey there is a variation in Blossoms in Springtime . I have a couple of bottles of it and the first one I purchased has a colorless oil while the other ones are a pretty red. Did anyone else notice this?

Generous sniffie from a lovely forumite. This is Schwarzer Mond light. The only difference on my skin is the skin musk in Fetish.Goth. It makes it a bit more feminine and soft. I'm not getting a lot of leather. Not a scent for me but I'm glad I got to try it!

Wow the Butterflies and Moths are gorgeous! Thanks for the pic orata.

MLXXXVI This smells a bit like Monster Bait: Underbed on my skin. Which means for me that it smells of vanilla plastic . There's also a hint of milk and something fresh. This one is tough for me to describe as the plastic overwhelms everything in it. So vanilla plastic with fresh laundry... This one isn't working for me.

#390 Previously reviewed here. This is the fullest bottle of Bpal that I ever seen. Wet: this starts out as amber and black musk, nice and powdery. Yup there's definitely black musk in here it resembles Haunted. It's getting more spicy and woodsy when it dries down. Dry: well the musk and amber are still present, there's also a hint of spiciness coming through. It's still mostly amber and black musk though. It's the love child of The Lion and Haunted! I love black musk but I already have a bottle of Haunted. Off to the swaps with this Chaos Theory.

This is almost exactly like the XNIA2 prototype. Lot's of wet stone with a bit of ivy. It translates into a musky slightly masculine scent for me as well. If you like this XNIA2 and Iganok Jewelers also feature this 'stone' scent.

Wet: melon and something a bit pungent, probably the honey which can be a bit iffy on my skin. It's very sugary-sweet. Dry: this morphs into a very airy scent. Airy, perfumey melon with just a tiny hint of honey. It would make a good summertime scent if I had actually liked smelling of melons.

#321 Well this is a difficult one. Wet this is mainly vanilla with a kind of foody floral. It's a familiar scent but I can't recall what it smells of. It's nice and light, the vanilla is blending well with it. When it dries there's something like almond and a hint of spices mingling with the vanilla. This Vanilla Chaos starts out foody/floral but ends up more foody than floral. It's light as a scent but has a lot of throw, if that makes any sense. All together it's a very nice scent, I'm sure I've smelled something like it before but I can't quite put my finger on the notes.

Ooh this is pretty much all bright orange blossom in the beginning. Reminds me a bit of Vixen but without that pesky patchouli and ginger. Goes on rather spicy and resinous. The vanilla starts to peek out when it's drying, it's morphing into a feminine vanilla blend. The orange blossom is still very prominent once Khrysee is dry. I'm not sure if I can pull this scent off. I mean it's gorgeous but very feminine and powerful.

I had no idea that kiwi translates so well into perfume! That! reminds me a bit of Berenice, it has the same slightly perfumey airy feel to it. It's basically a fresh fruity kiwi with a hint of mint. This doesn't morph a lot and has a lot of throw. That! would make a nice summertime scent, I'm not sure that I'll reach for it very often though.

On wet: this is green green green. Spicy sharp green. Like a plucked stem of a vicious plant kind of green. Drying down there's a kind of bananary floral scent emerging. It's still rather sharp and green. Not at all what I had expected. Dry: the florals have amped to huge quantities, this has a bit of a dryer sheet quality to it which combined with the vicious green is giving me a headache. Sheol has lots of throw but isn't quite for me.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
Monday replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
Well I had my first Bpal-related skin reaction. I had slathered Inferno on the back of my hand and got on with things for the day. I had completely forgot about the >be careful-possibly conflagrant< part of the description. The next day my hand was itching like mad and there was a patch of red bumps right where I had slathered Inferno. It took a couple of days for the itching to go away (it was really persistent ) and about a week and a half later I still have little bumps on the back of my hand. I'm not going anywhere near Inferno again! Weird thing is that I can wear Chimera without any reaction at all. -
#236 I might have stumbled upon a masculine Vanilla Chaos. In the bottle it's vanilla, oakmoss and something I can only describe as dill. On my skin it's still a greenish vanilla. I can't really describe the green note, it may be oakmoss but it may also be something completely different (sage?). It gets spicier and there's a hint of tobacco when it dries. The vanilla amps considerably. It's not necessarily masculine but it has a manly vibe to it. An interesting blend but not one for me.

Clove discussion! including bitter clove and clove cigarettes

Mourning Lace was all clove on my skin. If you love cloves this is the one for you. -
In the tester this smells of slightly salty chocolate. On my skin it warms up to a lovely lavender sandalwood+ tonka scent. It reminds me a bit of Tree of Life which also starts out with a hint of chocolate which later on disappears and the tonka gives it the same fuzzy vibe. For some reason I don't smell oleander but lavender. This is probably due to the fact that I have no clue what oleander smells like though. It reminds me a bit of my beloved Saint-Germain when it's dry. It's borderline masculine but I wouldn't hesitate to wear it. It's gorgeous!

#672 Well this one is a simple. Tea with vanilla. The tea is of the Baobhan Sith variety, slightly lemony with a good throw. It darkens slightly when it dries and the vanilla gets stronger too. As I'm not a huge fan of tea blends I can't see myself wearing this. Off to the swaps.

Smells of warmed up wine in the imp. On my skin it's grass, dandelions and still a sort of sweet wine, I'm not getting any tobacco. The booze amps a lot when it's drying. This is such a weird scent! Roadhouse ends up as a sweet boozy grassy scent. There is also some soapiness lurking beneath the grit. Too jumbled for me but I'm glad to have had a chance to try it.
-
I love powdery blends too and I have found that The Butterfly and Juke Joint both are powdery on my skin.
-
Pretty pink oil in the vial. Opens with gorgeous bergamot and spice on my skin. Oh my I really like this one it's like a better version of the Lion which was too faint for me to actually keep it. It is fuzzy and happy. When it dries the bergamot is tempered a bit by the tonka and there is a slightly powdery edge to it. Very nice!

Similarities Between BPAL Scents - GC and general discussion
Monday replied to Shollin's topic in Recommendations
Hi ! Dance of Death (Ars Moriendi) has a purple dark gothic scent even though it doesn't have lavender in it. It also smells slightly old-fashioned . Dance of Death: A gloriously elegant representation of Lady Death. Dry, bone-white orris, black musk, serpentine patchouli and our murkiest myrrh. -
Much to my surprise I do not like this scent at all! I think the culprit is the roman chamomile because I do like the chamomile in Against Idleness and Mischief. Sachs is a cloying sweet bitter herbal chamomile on my skin. Do not want!
-
I have a little bit of this oil in a vial thanks to a wonderful frimper! In the vial: it smells like powdery lavender and is somehow rather masculine. Must be the musk or maybe the birch. Wet: it seems to have disappeared. No wait, it's there just very faint. It amps slowly when it dries. Dry: still a purple kind of scent like powdery lavender (there isn't even lavender in here ) and masculine musk. It's odd that a blend called The Girl smells so manly. It also has a distinct shower-gel quality like a wet shower stall after someone used badedas. This one goes straight into cologne territory after a half an hour on my skin. It's not an unpleasant scent but not what I had expected.

We Need Your Lupercalia 2012 Recs! BPAL and BPTP
Monday replied to ivyandpeony's topic in Recommendations
Body, Remember- is my favorite of the lupers I have one bottle and I'm trying to convince myself that I do not need two (triljon) more. Playful Wooden Mallets- is very nice too, like Haunted it does need some aging though. Need to snag a bottle of it too. Blossoms in Springtime- is all creamy loveliness. It's one of the few honeys that I like and enjoy. Definitely need another bottle of it.
