first, i have to say, i got this from the swap boards and it has the old type of label on the imp, so its got some history, and has notes in it that age well, so im sure its got some differences from a brand new imp. its getting to be the perfect time of year for a dark clovey, patchouli scent like this. i dont think i would love this if id tried it in spring. ive tried it a couple of times and with just the teensiest dot on my hand, i can smell it several hours after applying it, though because ive applied it like this, it is never overwhelming. i like this very much. i like the dark spices, its all dark spice on me. i can see myself wearing it while tramping thru the woods, laying on the forest floor and looking up at the trees and sky. i can see myself wearing it on my neck on a cold cold day and snuggling my face into my coat to smell it, warming me with its sensual, intoxicating abilities. its a tad similar to the effect i get from the coiled serpent, scent wise. a keeper for me, for sure. i may come back and post a review based on how the scent changes for me, time allowing.

Ok, I was originally interested in this blend to try on my honey. I put it on his wrist and a few minutes later asked him what he thought. He said "its almost gone and i dont really like it, not like Vicomte." Well, he doesnt have the patience to wait a scent out like the addicts do, and so that is that. Now I try it for myself... Wet… Herbal clean ALMOST soapy but not in that bad soapy way Drying… Lots of herbs and crisp smelling flowers swirled together, its like a beautiful clean spring morning that’s sunny and nice enough to put the laundry out on the line. It’s like the scent of that spring breeze mixed with dryer sheets and free, pure, crispness, warmed just ever so slightly by the spring sun. Would make a most most gorgeous room scent or linen spray especially when you’ve got cabin fever from winter, I think, to give that feeling of the first day you can open the windows after winter. It’s so beautiful! Weird… my nose feels a little like its burning inside from this… what could that be (PM me if you know maybe)? I did have a diaper moment, as someone else mentioned, but I feel like I sussed out the things that made me feel that and it went away quickly. After Awhile... Powdery fresh clean herbally loveliness. I am definitley going to make this into a wonderful room spray. It will serve its purpose best as that in my case. (Yeah because it turned powdery and kind of old on my skin later!)

hey thanks for recommendations ... i had heard the "turns to cherry cough syrup thing" in some reviews and got freaked out. i just have a frightening aversion to cough syrup : ) but black cherry sounds pretty niiiice. when i was a kid i got some "slime" from a vending machine and when it got all gross i added some almond oil to it from my mom's baking drawer and since then certain almond smells make me woozy as well. BUT i DO keep in mind that cherry and almond in BPAL are not cough syrup & dirty almond oil slime scent. : )

but what scents that contain cherry wont do that to me?

In the vial: Fruity, honeyed, mouthwatering On wrist, wet: pow, my mouth waters, im sure that’s not any kind of melon but it just smells like the taste of some kind of honeydew or fruit and sugary thing, a vine flower or lovely jam… my mouth just waters when I smell this… there is a lot of high light airyness as well as deep and succulent smells. Drying: mmmm the high airy notes and deep scents are starting to merge and a faint smokiness (probably a dab of the patchouliness) bringing them together, just the faintest smokiness, mind you but combined with that deliciousness. Reading the description: oh yes, the tea, of course! I don’t get rose distinctly or patchouli and im not precisely sure I could identify the other notes as listed but they are all working just wonderfully, blending sublimely. Its a bit heavy yet but I smell sweet, honeyed, and lovely. It makes me feel good, like Im being hugged just as I would have needed it most. We will see how this wears on as time fades it down further… I think I will need to try this at a different time. Smelling it again, its just so juicy and overpowering to me, and even recalling the scent overwhelms me. It is really lovely but the day after my first review of this I put a teeny dot from the end of the imp wand behind my ear and just feeling it was too much, had to try to get it off immediately. I am PMSing so that probably has a lot to do with it. At this moment I feel like it would be a really good scent for a candle or a soap but not for my wrists (etc) ... however, the fact that its fall and I want food scents and not fruit scents as well as my hormonal balance leads me to believe this is just the scent for another season. eta 9/13: I just ate some tangy twister Mike & Ikes and I was eating a "Citrus Punch" one and I thought "IAMBE IN MY MOUTH" ... yes. Thats what the smell of Iambe tastes like in my mouth. Citrus Punch Mike & Ikes. Eat one.

without even trying to get technical in my analysis of this, as i am completely unqualified, i just have to say that i absolutely love this scent. i got it for my honey but started wearing it myself. it smells distantly related to the cologne he always wears (curve) so i thought he would like it (and he does, very much). i want to EAT him when he has it on, but trying it over a hot weekend, it faded off him quickly. wearing it myself, i love how it starts out sharp and high, citrusy and mellows into something more complex and divine and mellows further and lasts into what i THOUGHT was patchouli but i guess is the sandalwood / musk / rosemary / etc blend that wow, i just ... wow. i will buy a bottle of this and make it into a spray for him for sure, that way it will be sure to last on him. its amazing. i just want to eat his face and lick the paint off the walls. this stuff makes me crazy. nothing has ever brought the phrase or desire to "lick paint off the walls" before. i have to add, several people have likened this to dept store cologne and although i said it smells related to curve, it is so much more sophisticated and not commercial. as you would expect BPAL to be. eta 2/17/06: just wanted to follow up on this. i did make a spray cologne for him of this. and it lasts on him now. and he *wears* it! this is my favorite bpal. it was the first bpal scent i knew i had to have, and it was the second one i ever smelled, and its totally perfect. reading the scent description, i would never choose it based on notes NOW, but im so so glad i have it.

my first BPAL try (thanks HoneyHoneyNY!) so excuse my untrained analysis but i agree with 13bodies "almost like the smell of dried rose petals in water that have been soaking a couple of days; dried rose with a backing of sweetness that could be the beginning of rot. " and add to that, incense and old-fashionedness. wet: woah, strong churchy incense and roses drydown: churchy incense and roses, dry, dusty, soapy dry: mostly rosy, but also soapy, powdery, sad. Edited to add: the rest of the day: smells nice, but i dont know, GOTH. or something. i dont think its me. its all i have to go on for awhile so ill try it again. but not today. Edited to add, 9/2... I like the incensy smell of this. I pick it up and sniff it sometimes, but I dont care to wear it. I still dont want to give up on it though...
