Similarities Between BPAL Scents - GC and general discussion
antimony replied to Shollin's topic in Recommendations
Hrm... I have noticed a couple of these... Snake Oil - Titus Andronicus Depraved - March Hare -
I had one of the ties get into my imp of Oberon and sucked a bunch of it out. Also, when I put imps in my purse, the ties pick up all kinds of lint and cruft from the bottom of my purse. I am another vote for a stick-on label on the side of the vial. The ties look nice at first, but I care much more about the perfume inside, and the ties really aren't that practical in practice.

On me, Three Witches smells like spiced cider (including an apple smell that other people aren't getting) and isn't particularly cinnamony at all. The cinnamoniest scent's I've got are Wrath and All Night Long, and both of them pack a punch. Wrath is just a straight-up angry candy smell. There's a lot of depth to it, but it's a pretty straight-ahead scent. All Night Long is cinnamon that slithers. It twists around your nose and it's really hard to pin down. but it's definately sexy as hell.

Mmm... Butter... caramel... hazelnuts... I'm getting the coffee note other people have mentioned, but it's definately espresso, not that burnt, brewed coffee smell. This is a rich and sleepy scent.... Like the smell of wanting to go to sleep after a very heavy meal, where the last thing you tasted was coffee and a masterfully complex chocolate mousse.

On me, this is just too sweet... it gives me that weird unpleasant tingle in the back of my throat like eating a spoonful of sugar. I think, under all that, it's pretty, but on me it's just too overwhemed by the smell of *sweet* for me to smell much else.

For the first half hour or so: Flowers! Lots and lots of white-smelling sweet flowers. I really don't like the smell of stargazer lilies (the actual flowers give me awful headaches, though this oil did not), and the whole thing smelled just too sweet. And then when it dried down.... well, I've smelled like Ivory soap all day. I guess that makes me 99.44% pure. As if ;-) This is great for clean scent/white flower lovers... I'm a more resiny girl myself.

I just realized I had never reviewed this. Wrath smells like angry candy. Cinnamon and cloves mostly. (And smells *nothing* like Three Witches on me - Skin chemistry in action) I was in a really bitter, angry mood today, and picked this scent to match. My temper is now under control, and my anger has shifted from a hot must-kill-now, to a much colder someday-they-will-pay. Yummy stuff.

Mmmm.... How to review this one withoug getting to graphic... How about this? It works. I put this on before bed, we went to bed, both tired, and nothing really got started. I was disapointed, I hadn't exactly expected it to work instantly, but I had put it on hoping for some action... At somepoint in the midle of the night, I wake up to... amorous overtures. I call that proof that it speaks to the subconcious. As for the scent itself, the cinnamon is strong, but I also get a smell like almonds or some kind of wood... something dry and grounded to mellow the cinnamon out. Like... cinnamon as a young Elizabeth Taylor?

On me, this felt summer-afternoon hot, not smouldering-sex-kitten hot. It's the smell that goes with when you're first seeing someone, and you have so much to talk about, all the time, so you go on a date to the park in the summer, kick back in the grass, with your arm thrown over your eyes, and it feel like the most awesome date *ever*. (I had a number of dates like this in high school, and then actually had one again last summer, and I'm 24) Oh, and the ginger-ness of this scent is delicious.

Inevitable Wall Street reference... Greed is Good. This is the smell of not only having money, but knowing how to wear it. Custom shirts, tailored suits, gold-colored designer ties... and gold cufflinks. Donald trump would wear this, Bill Gates would not. Gordon Gecko would wear this, Scrooge McDuck would not.
-
VIOLETS! That's about all that's going on here for me... and it lasts and lasts. Unfortunately, I don't like violets. I feel like I want to scrub out the inside of my nose, this scent is painfully strong.

Er.. Why were the 7 sins in 6 bottles? ;-)

Oils to relax, calm, soothe, restore your sanity...

From your list, I'd chose March Hare or Cathedral But what you *need* is Three Witches. -
This one smells like a cross between soap and kitchen herbs. I haven't noticed any particular powers of attraction (beyond my usual atractiveness, of course), but I could see how this would be a relaxing, inviting scent. Like the fried chicken and apple pie of perfume. (Not that it *smells* like fried chicken or apple pie, it just feels like home-cookin')

Eh, this one faded on me within the first hour. It's pretty enough, but kinda seaweedy-smelling. Dries down to a pretty herby powder, but it's really faint. Edit: Ok, I was wrong. afrer an hour I couldn't smell it... but 10 hours after I put it on, my boyfriend still could.

Crisp and citrusy. I can see why this scent is intended to be purifying, it feels like it cuts through gummed-up tought processes and emotional trafic jams. This is a "wait a minute, let's look at this objectively" kind of scent. Almost as if the citrus note gives you something to grab onto and re-center yourself. Too bad it fades quickly, though. Be ready to re-apply during the day.

Mmmm... On me, this smells like Snake Oil but *better*. First of all, this scent is totally unisex. It's not at all girly, but it's not gruntingly masculine either. At first, it's a rush of spiciness, then it settles in to last all day. I put it on at 7:30 am, at 9:00 at night, my boy is sniffing at my neck and looking very... interested. I sensed a little vanilla, but that might have been my imagination. Mostly it just smells sexy. If you like snake oil, you *MUST* try Titus Andronicus

I didn't care for this one... I really don't like florals, and this one is no exception. The words that come to mind when I sniff my wrist are... insipid, simpering, and manipulatively flirtatious. "you're so big and strong! And I'm so helpless! Come and take care of me... and while you're at it, would you mind signing over all of your assets? Thanks." The sandalwood and rose feel stuck on the inside of my nose, like there's a layer of spiderwebs coating my sinuses. This is obviously one that is highly changable around body chemistry.

I love lavender, I love vetivert, but there's no hope for me, I'm never going to like the smell of violets. This is a strong, angry scent. In fact, it leaves a metalic tang interneath the sides of the back of my tongue. Very piratey and briney, but a pirate captain, not a smelly sailor. Arrrr. Also, very masculine. If I smelled this on a guy, I would be crossing my fingers for him to toss me over his shoulder and mercilessly haul me back to his cabin. Mmmm... pirate fantasies... what was I talking about again? ;-)

Too bad I don't like white floral scents. This is very delicate, very pretty. This was one of those scents that didn't "turn" or do anything nasty, in fact if I smelled this exact scent on someone else, I'd be enchanted. But this just isn't me. It's girly, it's delicate, it's demure. I'm, well... not. Though the lemon and vanilla are a nice touch that really make this a much prettier scent then your average department store floral perfume.

On me it smells like hot spiced cider *with* the cider. The apple note is there, I'm sure of it! I smell so delicious. I'm craving spiced cider just from being around myself. I put it on 3 hours ago, and it doesn't show any signs of fading or changing. I am *so* getting a big bottle of this.

This one faded quickly on me, and that's not usually a problem for me. Nothing about the scent stood out, it was somewhat floral, I could smell the orange blossom, but it was overall, a very pale, wilted scent. The clove didn't really come out at all. On my skin, it smelled only faintly of what it smelled like in the vial and within half an hour it was completely gone.

This smells like... some kind of dress-up perfume I had as a child. Something that was specifically made for children. I like it though... I put it on and felt happy, what more could you want from a perfume?
-
Oh, I love love love this one... I didn't realize how much I loved apricot until I tried Depraved, and now I'm thinking this might even be better. It smells like ripping open a real fresh apricot, and the clove just smells spicy, not dentist-y. And the best part is it lasts all day. Every time I turn my head I catch a whiff coming up off my neck. yum.

This is a nice, fresh scent. It didn't really jump out at me, though. As far as fresh, springtime scents go, I still much prefer Embalming Fluid. That, and it faded really quickly on my skin.
