A deceptively sweet orchid vanille with a faint trace of stephanotis. In imp: Oh oh OH. Honey and vanilla and florals and fruits - it's scrumptious. Wet: Honeysuckle with a waft of fruit. Drydown: Oh, this is so gorgeous. More fruityness. Top notes: Powdery fruit and a deep, true vanilla. Middle notes: The best baby powder EVER. Lush and true, with a vanilla-y finish. Base notes: Baaaaady powder. Throw: a strong medium. Overall rating: 5 out of 5.

In imp: bleaaaaarg. Anise. And something fruity. Wet: Anise! Drydown: There's a fruity-cherry note that comes out. I have high hopes! Top notes: A cherry-ish floral with a waft of anise. Middle notes: Is that cherry-floral note cherry blossom? Anyway, that's the predominant note now. Base notes: A dusty anise. Throw: medium. Overall: 3 out of 5.

In imp: lavender with an herbal undertone. Wet: Lavender with sandalwood. Drydown: the lavender gets smoother and fades into a smoky woody scent (tobacco + sandalwood). Top notes: Lavender. Middle notes: tobacco leaf and sandalwood. Base notes: tobacco leaf and sandalwood. Throw: medium-light. Rating: 3.5 out of 5 ETA: this went stale on me in a very bad way a few hours on.

In imp: Lavender with a metallic undertone. I don't know how Beth made these notes smell metallic, but she did. Wet: Light lavender with an underlying floral complexity. Drydown: The metallic note returns as the oil dries. Stays a bit oily - had to be rubbed in. Top notes: Ooooh. Smexy violet. I love violets in old-fashioned mens' fragrances, and this is no exception. Middle notes: The metallic note returns, but seems to be more identifiable as vetiver + violet at this point. Base notes: Mmmm vetiver and violets; no metallic note anymore. Throw: medium-light.

In imp: Not bad, I can smell oakmoss and an aquatic note. Wet: Very hard to smell. I can actually smell the oil on my other wrist more. Drydown: A light dryer sheet smell. Top notes: Haha, well, my dog likes it. This would be the one that doesn't check out every scent I wear, so this is a bit noteworthy. PS. It smells like dryer sheets. Midde notes: Dryer sheets! Base notes: ....still dryer sheets. The last BPAL aquatic scent I tried - Lightning - went dryer sheet-y on me, too. Huh.

In imp: peachtree schnapps. Wet: peaches soaked in white wine. Drydown: more of the same, but fading a bit. Top notes: peach and myrtle. (I'm guessing myrtle is the green/boozy scent). Middle notes: a deeper peach with a musky undertone. I like it, but I'm not entirely sure this fragrance would stay nice on a hot day, or if I was having a stressful day. YMMV. Base notes: peachy musk and vanilla. The musk is holding up well atm, but I've had a few run-ins with BPAL musk in the past, so I'm reserving judgement. Summary: it's a nice fragrance on me, today. Since this imp is part of a circular swap, I'm going to try and get a proper imp of this later so I can give it more of a "stress test," and leave this up as a temporary review.

In imp: .....................................teaberry? Wet: Dude, I smell like old-fashioned bubble gum. Top notes: OK, this has just got to be the combination of notes here, because there is no way this is straight teaberry oil. Middle notes: oooh, there's some sandalwood. But still with the teaberry. W. T. F. Base notes: the teaberry's starting to break down a little, and now I can smell the woodiness and the oakmoss underneath it. Huh. ETA: I seem to have a wintergreen'd imp.

The scent of loss, love and the echo of time without end: sorrowful violet and chamomile with muguet, white geranium, calla lily and tea rose with a hint of autumn leaves. in imp: tangy floral wet: a whiff of spicy carnation. top notes: soft roses. middle notes: soft floral...very light and sweet. Like a spring morning when a field has gone into bloom. I know that seems maudlin, but that's what it smells like so...deal. base notes: more of the soft floral, but it's getting very weak.

I'm testing from a tarted imp, so I think I'm doing a review of some very aged Tombstone here. In imp: vanilla and...leather? I guess that leather's the cypress and balsam blend. Wet: Leather with a twist of vanilla. This is very thick, and is taking a long time to dry down. Top notes: I'm getting the cypress and balsam, which still smells very leathery to me. Middle notes: Now it's a little more herbaceous, with a bit of a hay note. Base notes: leathery balsam sweetened up just a little with vanilla. Overall: I like it. It's kind of like a less-sweet version of Perversion on me.

In imp: orangey, like children's asprin. wet: orange peel/rosemary/mint. top notes: rosemary/mint, with a sweet edge to it. middle notes: minty rose, and fading fast. base notes: dusty rose.

Lightning slashing the midnight skies over the endless reaches of the ocean. The electric tang of ozone, marine notes, and a drop of sharp rain. In imp: ozone and a white floral. Wet: ozone and marine notes. Top notes: Dryer sheets. Middle notes: ooh, now we're getting somewhere. Ozone and salt air over dryer sheets. Base notes: back to dryer sheets. It's not a bad scent, but all I can think of now is that SNUGGLE BEAR sketch from Mad TV.

In imp: frankincense with soft roses. Wet: fraaaaaaankincense. Which is weird, because I was fully expecting a 50 ft rose to leap off my arm and bludgeon me into unconsciousness once I applied this. Top notes: my husband won't stop talking about "dropper blossoms," but I really don't smell any blood or heroin notes in this. It's still pretty much rose and frankincense. Although the rose is getting stronger...the frankincense softens the edges out and makes this really lovely. Middle note: ah, booger. Remember that 50 ft rose I mentioned earlier? Um. Yeah. Although, to be fair, it's a really pretty 50 foot rose. ETA: OK, now it's a respectable level of rose. Yay.

In imp: floral (in a generic perfumey way) and lavender-y. This reminds me of the dream blends. Wet: lavender and violets. As it dries down, the lavender seems to amp up a bit. Dry: wow, the lavender has a lot of throw. The violets give it a powdery-sweet undertone that I can only pick up if I sniff my skin closely. Middle notes: lavender and that generic perfumey note again. Base notes: generic perfumey note and violets. As a working blend: well, since this is part of a circular swap, I didn't want to use this ritually. It does seem to have a calming aromatherapuetic effect, though.

In imp: strawberry shampoo and black antiquing. Yeah, I just used a jewelry-specific smell. Oh well. Wet: sour berries and a little bit of a bitter kick from the neroli. Drydown: soapy berries and...paper fire smoke. I have no idea why these notes are going so wonky on me. There must be an unlisted ingredient throwing things off for me. Dryer: burnt plastic and blackcurrant. Driest: I'm starting to get a truer currant smell in the throw, but not when I sniff my skin. It's pretty, but this phase isn't worth waiting through the weird ones for. Drought: OK, 30 minutes later, it's finally pulled together. It's very pretty, and I'd consider buying it if I didn't have all these wonky phases to go through. I'm really bummed. I wanted to like you, Jester!

In imp: chemically, like sniffing concentrated laundry fragrance. Wet: Heather with a rosy undertone. It reminds me of my grandmother's medicine cabinet. Drydown: oh, now there's a little bit of blackberry underneath the heather. It's very delicate. Later: This definitely smells like my grandmother's cold cream. Mildly floral and creamy. Even later: eh, it turned funky. I bet there's a smidge of sage and rose in here. Overall: this is very vintage-y to me, actually. More evocative and nostalgic than something I would normally wear as a perfume.

In imp: bananas! Wet: bananas! And maybe a little pineapple. Drydown: just when I thought I had a Manila clone on my hands, the apple note comes out. And now I smell like a fruit stand. A CLEAN FRUIT STAND, THANKS. Ohh, and now I smell like fresh-cut pineapple. And it's stabilized on pineapple. Yay! I finally found a pineapple scent! This is all in a few minutes, mind. This is the first time I've had a scent do this kind of morphing on me, so I'm kind of excited. Usually it's pretty straighforward top/middle/base and that's it, you know?

Hmm, this is a lot of ingredients I really love plus bpal's leather accord...which is a little scary for me. The leather in Perversion is a glorious thing, but the leather in Misk U was very overpowering. :barges ahead anyway: In imp: I can smell leather accord and myrrh. It's very sharp and acrid at first whiff, but was markedly more mellow on the second. Wet: Smooth amber with rough leather underneath. This is making me a little nervous. Drydown: This has a lot of throw, but that's normal for these notes on me. The amber is still the dominant note, and is starting to go a bit powdery around the edges (which I don't mind). Dry: leaaaaaaaather. A little sharper than say, new leather, but the amber and myrrh smooth it out and make it sexy. Thankfully the leather not as strong and sharp as it seemed in the imp. The powderiness is sadly gone - I was hoping for a nice contrast of innocent and not innocent scents. Perversion will remain my favorite leather scent, but Loviatar is a really good choice if you're not into vanilla/tonka.

In imp: cherry cough syrup. With real cherries marinated in it. Wet: Nice high and bright cherry note, with a slightly darker undercurrent. Drydown: You know those Strawberry Shortcake dolls? Remember her cherry-scented friend? Kabuki smells just like that. 5 minutes later: very light musk with anise and no cherry. Huh. I love the cherry note! I even love the fakey-fakeness parts of it! I just wish this lasted longer on me.

In bottle: sharp, penetrating vetiver and leather. Wet: a very green incarnation of vetiver. Drydown: oooh, now it's pretty! Spicy leather and a soft, lush floral. Fully dry: light leather. Overall: It's not my thing, but it's nice.

This is pretty much a dry, musky coconut on me from start to finish. Sexy in a subtle way.
-
In bottle: acrid and smoky. Does not actually smell like brimstone, thankfully. I'm not sure if I even want to try this on. (But I'm doing the whole-GC swap, and as far as I know I'm not allergic to any of the ingredients, so I will). Wet: It's got that cat-piss smell that green wood gets. Gah...I really can't remember which wood gets like this. Dry: OK, now it smells like brimstone ( ) and a bonfire. I'm also getting some...oakmoss and patchouli, I think. But just in the background. I'm going to guess that this will fade into a faintly sulphuric patchouli/oakmoss blend, but I'm all set and I'm going to wash this off! As a side note: I would have to agree with an earlier poster who said that this is a Nightcrawler scent. It would be an awesome addition to a Nightcrawler halloween costume, or a generic demon costume. Yes, I am that anal about my halloween costumes.

You know, this smells a LOT like Pink Sugar. It's not a dupe - they're definitely different - but they both have very similar notes and convey a sense of "neon pink." That said, I really love this one. In the bottle: strawberries and champagne. Wet: Wow, this smells JUST like Pink Sugar does after it's drydown. Fruity sugar and musk. I'm really not getting the sweet pea. Dry: Strong vanilla and strawberry. Not sweet...but very strong. Overall: I really wish I had bought this instead of Red Phoenix! Oh well. ETA: Now that I'm into the base notes, this is like Pink Sugar and Hollywood Babylon's love child.
-
In bottle: tea and peony. Not my thing at all, but not bad. Wet: peony and a bit of sparkling fruitiness. Drydown: crisp tea with a floral counterpoint. Still sparkling and very feminine. Base notes: sweet floral. Sophisticated and luminous. Overall: a really nice floral. Very feminine and sexy in a Joan Crawford way. I'm one of those foody scent fiends so I'll never wear this, but I'd buy this for anyone who really likes white florals.
-
In bottle: Green and intense, with a spicy finish. Wet: It becomes a non-scent? How strange. Dry: Oh, there it is. Not nearly as strong as in the bottle, and slightly.......itchy. I caught some lavender and oakmoss before washing it off.
-
In bottle: sharp, metallic mint. Wet: sweet, bright mint. Top/dry: sweet, bright mint. Middle/dry: mint, lemon, with occaissional wafts of.....peanut butter? Base/dry: oakmoss and ambergris with a metallic mint twist. Overall: I really like this scent, but that metallic finish is sort of a deal-breaker for me. However, it IS a good scent to be named Cathode.
