    Formula 54

Cegirls hit it right on the head. INTOXICATING. Fruity, sugary, sweet... but in a bad girlkind of way. Candy-fruity, like the smell of a lollipop that you've been sucking on for a while. Warm. RED. For me, this is a a club scent. It'll be the first one I slather on the next time I go out to the club (not the bar, big difference in bar scents, and club scents, IMO). The best thing about this scent? My chemistry didn't change it much at all, other then fade it down with time. It stayed alive, and I could smell it on me the entire time I had it on. I'll be sad when this scent is all gone. It's what I wanted Hollywood Babylong to smell like. I adore HB, but, Formula 54 is more *me* then HB. The bottle and the wax tag really made this one special. -Leslie

    Decadence

*Swoon* Decadence. Is... decadent. Gorgeous. First whiff: Cinamon! One of my all time favorite notes. I think I detect some citrus overtones, too. Rich, yet bright. VERY alluring. On: My chemistry seems to be brining the citrus notes out more now, but it's not a 'house hold cleanser' kind of citrus. It's very Fruity-juicy. Staying power for sure! Big bonus in my book! It also seems to have an alcoholic-sangaria almost scent. It's almost like cider, but, more alcohlic I think. A few hours later: Light, but still there. Can't really detect any cinamon anymore at all. All in all? I'd get a 5ml of this in a heartbeat. It's going on my wishlist!! -Leslie

    Chaos Theory

I received Chaos Theory XCII (92). I it, very much. But for the life of me, I can't seem to pull out any specific notes. It's very green, anf floral (maybe sweet pea??) and yet wet and watery, too. VERY Fae-ish. I thought I detected some Vanilla in it, but I don't think so anymore. It seems to be very complicated. I wish I could get a listing of what notes are in it, because if anything else in the lab smells even close to this, I WANT IT -Leslie

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

I get those reducers off with pliers. Gently. Very gently. For me, they're just downright annoying. -Leslie

    Where is this scent?

I have Bon Vivant. And it sounds like that may be it! Ya know, Eb has an imp of "March Hare", and NO WAY is it "March Hare"! It's light and mintyish. Neither of us have a CLUE what it is! -Leslie
  6. Oh yes. Very sweet. I it. And Swank... it's very bubble-gummy to me. -Leslie

    The Unicorn

Short and sweet review: SO SO SO glad I got a 5ml of this scent!!!! It's SPARKLES, if that makes any sense. It sparkles, and glows... and when I'm wearing it, I feel beautiful. I've never smelled linden blossoms - so I'm not sure what's making this scent so perfect on me, but of all the scents I own, this one is pure magic in a bottle! -Leslie

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

Is it just me... or does 'June Gloom' smell a lot like 'Baobhan Sith' ??? -Leslie

    March Hare

*Le Sigh* I SO wanted to love this scent - considering I was born in March, and, the Mad Tea Party scents are my favorite scents - but alas, March Hare and I did not get along. Both on, and off me... the scent was very buttery. Just TOO buttery. Almost 'gaginating' in fact. I could hardly smell the apricot or any other hints - and it kind of ticks me off that my sense of smell and body chemistry murdered this scent in such a way. I thought maybe I got a bad batch... but I have no idea. I'm glad March Hare works out so well for others though. Sadly, this will be a swapper for me. I can't even open the bottle without wincing -Leslie

    Amber Bottles vs Other Colors

Can I put in a request for a few of those right now? I think they'd really perk up my oil cabinet, and mayhaps other things And on a more serious note... I am a collector of all things Amber. So this is no issue for me. As long as the glass is dark, and protects the oils... I'm peachy. My bottle of 'Wilde' came in one, and I was actually EXCITED about it. -Leslie
  11. I'd have to say... - Siren - Glitter - Ophelia Just based on how they smell... not really their story or names. GREAT THREAD!!!! -Leslie

Ah ha! I thought so. Though I was saying... ti-SOF-uh-nee. Which was wrong. Thanks, Eb!!!! -Leslie

    Black Widow

Same here... just got an imp of 'Black Widow' and as much as I was hoping to have good things to say about it, I'm seeing others feel pretty much the same I do. Mayhaps this was just not a good mix. It happens. First whiff: Erm... you know, I'm at a loss for descriptive words. All I can say is... I smell, uh... a moth bally type smell. The jasmine smells like it's clashing with one of the other hints. On: Woah... no, no, no. REALLY moth bally smell now. Almost... old ladyish. Heavy, bitterly weird. Is it just me, or does this scent smell almost, musty? Final impression: NOT a scent for me. Too weird, and unbalanced. That's all I can figure - something just didn't work with something else in this blend. -Leslie

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

Yes. We do. It's an investment! And I want to protect it I started the thread over in "BPal chatter". I edited my previous post, too. The FAQ says over a year if cared for correctly. -Leslie

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

ROFL Chin!!! The Lab FAQ says: How long will this stuff last? Will it ever go bad? Our oil blends will last for over one year, if they are cared for correctly. Please keep all of our products in a cool, dark place to maximize their shelf life. Over a year... now THAT I can deal with. But, extending shelf life is a good topic. Maybe I'll start a thread on this. -Leslie

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

Hee! I actually have a degree in Chemistry, so yeah I should know better and I totally agree Also, the plastic syringes I use are not ideal because the oil can permeate the polymer ... CROSS-CONTAMINATION alert!! Thanks for the tip, madame! We're all starting to sound like a bunch of OCDs over here! LOL!!!! I too, just lazily slap my finger on top of the bottle to apply - or I use a Q-tip. I never thought I was contaminating the oil. Ack. *Feeling kinda like 'Monk' from the 'Monk' TV Series* -Leslie

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

Moonbeam is nice - they just offer most things in 'packages'. Whereas with the other places, you can pick and choose how many of each item you want. You don't have to get 10 or 25 of anything. And that way, you can mix and match. Moonbeam originally drew me in because they had those little glass globe bottles that the lab used to use a while ago. I wanted some to dress up some of my more favorite oils. Another good place is Capricorn's Lair. Good luck with whoever you choose to order from! -Leslie

    Sandalwood Scents

Ok... I have to throw this in... I know there's no sandalwood listed in 'Noir' : Our olfactory tribute to the film genre: a dark, moody, brooding scent that embodies moral ambiguity, alienation, and soul-wrenching cynicism. A complex, seamy blend of Lily of the Valley, opoponax, myrrh, black rose and plum with a slithering twist of clove, deep plum and star jasmine. ... but, I am a sandalwood fanatic, and 'Noir' puts off a sandalwood smell to me. I was CONVINCED there was sandalwood in it till I read the description. Everyone around me knows how much I love sandalwood, and those who have smelled 'Noir' all agree: it's an amazing 'non sandalwood' yet, sandalwood scent. All I can think of is that maybe the opoponax is what's creating that sandalwood smell. Honestly... it's not fruity, or too floral, or overly 'youthful' in my opinion. An older woman may really LOVE 'Noir'. Just my 2 cents -Leslie

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

Chin: If you want to keep your oils REALLY pristine, try using Iso Alcohol to clean the dropper instead of soap and water. I use that to clean everything I use to transfer oils, and I soak old bottles in it and everything. It really does the trick. I learned this from a friend of mine who works at a University Lab. He was fascinated with the whole blended oil thing, and he shook a finger at me for using soap and water because he said 'Soap will ALWAYS leave a residue of some kind", whereas the alcohol will not. It's worth the extra few bucks, trust me. -Leslie

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

I have 3 places I get all my bottles, vials, and droppers from: Specialty Bottle Sunburst Bottle Company Moonbeam Garden ... you can get the little glass perfume vials there that have the plastic tops with the wands. Among many other things to put your oils into. I think they even have the roller ball containers. -Leslie

    Noir

See now I could have sworn this scent was heavy with Sandalwood. I can detect some of the hints listed, but I REALLY smell Sandalwood. Someone else mentioned Patchouli... and I can smell that, too. So strange. Either way... I love it - wet, and dry. For me, this is a very underrated scent. And it just moved into my top 10 favorites with a resounding *SQUEE* of joy! -Leslie

    Wilde

Ok, I admit it... t'was the poem that made me decide to order this scent I adore Oscar Wilde's work. At first, I was not too happy with this scent. But I didn't give it much of a chance after the first whiff. So I let it be for a few days, and then went back to it. First whiff: Hmm. This smells very much like one of my Dad's colognes. Not sure which one, because he has so many, but it's really something he'd love. The lavender is VERY pronounced. The jasmine and thyme, not so much. But, they're in there balancing out the lavender just enough to make this scent work as well as it does. On: My chemistry brought out the thyme more, but, oddly, as much as this is a more masculine scent, I like it. It's clean, and it's not heavy or overpowering. In fact, it's quite enlightening - if that makes any sense. An hour or so later: The scented has dried down, and become more sweet than I figured it would. The lavender is even more pronounced now, and I'm not sure how that would go over with a man who may decide to wear this, but, I'm liking it because I LOVE lavender. I get this feeling that my body chemistry didn't do it as much jusitice as other people's may. A VERY interesting scent! -Leslie

    Kostnice

First whiff: Frankincense, lily... hmm, not much rose. But like so many others who have tried this scent, the frankincense is what's standing out the most for me. This is pleasing for me. It smells EXACTLY like the church I used to go to when I was little... at Easter time. That was the one thing I liked about church... the smell. On: This scent is staying pretty true to what I smelled right out of the bottle. My chemistry hasn't changed it much, and, it's nice and strong on me. I can tell this one is going to last. The frankincense and lily, mixed with the warmth of my body heat is creating soothing and comforting scent all around me. An hour later (actually, a little longer than that): As I predicted... it's still going strong! Lovely. Memory evoking. Received a compliment at the store to top it all off, too. I just love when I don't have to reapple or top off a scent to bring it back to life. -Leslie
