Deceptively gentle and lethally alluring. Jasmine and rose, touched with sparkling heliotrope. (Bewitching Brews) Interesting. This is very perfumey to my nose--the jasmine and rose are soft, but verge towards generic fancy soap, to my nose. I can't discern the heliotrope. It's a pleasant scent, but not for me.

Whoof. This is a cool citrus mint on first sniff, refreshing and faintly sweet. It doesn't morph at all on me, though after a while it begins to remind me of tea and bubblegum. The mint stays dominant overall. It's nice, but not something I'd wear as a scent.

    Grand Guignol

This is boozy and candy-sweet on first application. The apricot is sugar-coated and thick in the back of my throat. Yikes! It is a bright scent, and as it dries, the sweetness settles down. Unfortunately, the scent then turns a bit cardboard on me. Off to swaps this goes!

    Shango

This is fruity bubblegum on me, all banana and pineapple. As it dries, the sugar cane, apple, and a hint of the chili appear. It's lovely, darker and more complex than I expected, but I still think "bubblegum" first whenever I sniff it. It would make a scent for summer evenings.

    Hecate

The almond is strong and sweet on first application, but as always, it turns to bleach on me in a minute. I never get a hint of the other notes. Disappointing, but not unexpected. Off to swaps!

    Tezcatlipoca

Ooooh. On first sniff, I get dusty cocoa and sweet patchouli. As it dries, the blend gets smokier, and the cocoa richens behind it. There's something spicy as well, and the leather soon appears, though I can't discern the incense. I love this--it's not quite masculine, but dark and seductive. I definitely want a bottle.

    Centzon Totochtin

Yum. This is such a rich, rolling scent. The cocoa is familiar and warm, but the sweetness of the blend comes from the wine. This is gorgeous--dark and hovering, but a little elusive as well.

    Ochosi

This is a lovely scent, and an unusual one, in my experience. I get cream and spices right away, but there's a fresh, herbal note that keeps it from verging into foody territory. As it dries, the herbal note strengthens into evergreen, and this becomes a gorgeous forest scent. It's much softer and rounder than most, but there's a note in it that reminds me of Dublin and Snow Bunny. Gorgeous. I want a bottle.

    Oya

I'm not sure how to describe this one, as the plum is obvious on first sniff, but it's not just that at all. The blend is faintly sweet, but balanced with florals and a bit of spice, as well. I think there's a hint of musk, but nothing very strong. It's a light and ephemeral scent, pretty but never settled.

The melon is evident straight off in this blend, but it's quickly chased by smoke and tobacco. It's a push and pull to my nose, much like Fee, but warmer. As it dries, I get a little more of the chili, but the smoke gets a little stale as well. It makes my nose wrinkle, actually. It's a fascinating blend, but it's not for me.

    Olokun

This is a sweet and bright aquatic scent on me, the wide ocean and a stiff breeze over it. Gorgeous. Something, I think a floral, is sweetening it, but I can't discern what it is. There's the tiniest bit of ozone behind it, but not enough to make me sneeze. The blend is cool and calming, freeing.

On first application, this is honey and herbs, a fresh and sweet garden. The honey isn't as cloying as I anticipated, and the overall blend is crisp and warm. I can smell floral notes in the background, but they're not overpowering. It's lovely.

    Obatala

This is lovely! On first application, it's sweet cream and coconut, with a bit of tang. It's clean and cool, but it reminds me of a sticky-hot summer day, with waves crashing and kids laughing in the background. And happily, it does not go sour or plastic on me, as other creamy scents have done. Beautiful.

    Nihil

On first application, this is a sweet floral on me, though it's a little generic at first sniff. As it dries, it smells less generic to me. I still can't identify the floral notes, but there is something a little spicy in the mix. There's also something that reminds me of ozone, but I don't think that's it. Interesting.

    Marie

On first sniff, this is a sweet and delicate rose, but after a moment, I can smell the coolness of the violet. The violet, actually, seems to be intensifying the sweetness of the rose. After a while, the rose is actually overwhelmed by the violet--I can still smell it, but it's pale in the background. This is a twilight scent, cool and dark blue to my nose. It's seductive, but also a little solemn. Lovely.

    Phobos

The lemon verbena is sweet and strong in this scent, and actually reminds me a bit of lemon jellybeans. There's something cleaner behind it--the lemongrass, I think, and perhaps the grapefruit--but it's obscured by the candy-sweetness. After a while, I get more of the bitter-tart grapefruit, but the jellybeans stay dominant. I also start to get something that smells like dishwater. Ah, well. Off to swaps!

    Wicked

This is sweet incense, laced with jasmine and sweet rose. The myrrh isn't as strong as I feared it would be, though it's definitely there. Instead, it's perfectly balanced with the floral notes, creating a powerful feminine scent, dignified and solemn. Gorgeous.

    Venom

The lime bursts out on first application, closely followed by the berries. I'm not familiar with the other notes, but they deepen and sharpen the fruity overtones, giving a sophisticated sheen to the scent overall. It's difficult to describe, but it's also difficult to stop sniffing. Fascinating.

    Unseelie

On first sniff, this is a very perfumey scent on me. It's cloying and dark, with a hint of boggy florals beneath it. As it dries, it becomes a bit wispy, without losing its essential darkness. In the end, think I'd classify it as a smoky floral, but it's a little murkier than that. I get an odd, musky note as well. Overall, it's pretty, but not for me.

Oooh! This is lovely, clean and sweet. The ginger is a strong base note, but the grapefruit keeps it from being too strong. As it dries, I can better discern the tea, but this is pretty much all ginger and grapefruit peel on me. A great, energizing scent.

    Monster Bait: Underbed

Oooooh. This is very dry, like powdered cocoa and cinnamon crumbs, shaken in a glass jar. (I'm beginning to better differentiate between cinnamon and cassia, though I can't articulate it well.) I don't get very much of the angel food cake, but there is a lighter sweetness behind it that keeps me from sneezing. It's spicy and chocolately and a little smoky, but it doesn't screamy FOODY at me. I definitely want a bottle.

    Monster Bait: Closet

On first application, this is reminiscent of Beaver Moon, but the blackberry and bourbon quickly slam over any cake notes. Wow! It's sweet and boozy for a good while, but it eventually dries down to a sharply sweet cream. I get a tiniest bit of stale-scented-plastic underneath, as I usually do with baked-good-type scents, but it's suppressed underneath the blackberry. I suspect this scent isn't one for me, but it's delicious nonetheless.
  23. Voleuse

    Zero

On first application, I get a light...floral? I want to say it's a white floral, but it's musky as well. It doesn't quite verge on perfumey, but it's close. It's very feminine, and a little bit sweet. I like it.

    Val Sans Retour

This is a sharp citrus on first application, and as it dries it gets sharper and greener. Yikes! It ends up a prickly forest smell on me, which is nice, but not at all what I would have expected. The scent I end up with is medicinal and cool, as if I blundered through an herb garden in twilight.
  25. Voleuse

    Toxin

Ooooh. I like this one. I get a cool overtone, but it's quickly spiked by a sweet citrus note. As I sniff, I start to catch an aquatic note as well. This is a fresh, sweet, and clean scent, and I agree with those who've compared it to Blue Moon. I'll definitely want a bottle of this, whenever it's finally released.
