Similarities Between BPAL Scents - GC and general discussion
stellamaris replied to Shollin's topic in Recommendations
Oooh I love Night Raven and Kitsune-Tsuki too, so I might be able to suggest some things. For creamy I would say Al-Azif it is really amazing, rich and creamy and not dark to me at all. If it had a color it would be pale yellow. For honey the most amazing one to me is Crib Girls. You also may like Skuld. Zarita is crazy good, and also for the cream note you might like Boo. for rose there is no other but Seance. -
This is awesome, smokey, deep and wonderful. Definitely a "dark indigo" scent for me. It's like the girl version of Laudanum.

Best BPALs for SUMMER - is it hot, sweltering, sticky outside?
stellamaris replied to Donnababe's topic in Recommendations
Another thing I like in summer are the minty things, A Torrent of Light, Lick It, Mad Hatter (okay it feels minty to me) Josie smells like summer to me. Like summer in heaven. -
After retesting I would like to put in a word for Skuld, it's awesome and honey-full.

LOL withjoy, just think of it as the death of their solitary lives as singles, to the rebirth of their married selves. See, I can spin almost anything I love Agape, but I associate it very strongly with work, as our Donna gave me a bottle, and that's where I always wore it. It's so pretty though, and the label art is glorious.

Bruised Violet Compound
stellamaris replied to Leopard403's topic in Doc Constantine's Pharmacopoeia
Got my Big Bottle of this with my last order. I love violets, this is my favorite violet from BPAL, right up there with The Raven. It's rich and lasting, very violet with something deeper grounding it and making it interesting. :wub2: -
This is Vixen/Ira Bath Oil as a massage oil. Earthy but lovely, so very good. So happy to have this, as my DH needs a lot of massages...

The Lilies and Languors of Virtue smells like church on Easter Sunday to me, a very wonderful association. The older kids perform bits of Godspell every year, everyone is dressed up so pretty, it's sunny and the church is filled with white Calla Lilies. It really feels like beauty and rebirth. I will probably be waiting for my big bottle, but I know I will wear my decant on Easter Sunday! Eh, maybe Good Friday too, I am so DONE with winter, I want it to be spring...

stella, I wish it were so. All I get from Khajuraho is soapy rose. Which vintage is your bottle? Mine is an older one, so if yours is the newest version I might have to get one. I love Nag Champa, and so far Urd is my favorite by far. I have this years and it is flat out Nag Champa, I could not believe how identical it was.
-
Necroing this thread because if you love Nag Champa, you must run, not walk, to the Lab right now and get some Khajuraho (eep did I spell that right? Yes just checked it out on my very own bottle). It's the essence of pure nag champa incense, so darn good.

I'm always lurking on this thread, as I love to wear "masculine" scents. Unfortunately often when I do that annoying Irish Spring lady pops up and says "Manly yes, but I like it too..." One gender neutral fantastic thing I recently found (and am hoarding) is Antimony V9, which is a gorgeous sandalwood. So awesome, and very "neutral" My husband tends to like sweeter things, like Debauchery and WILF, so this one languished on his side (well ok corner of) the cabinet until I swiped it from him, so happy I did, it's excellent. And if you are really nice to me I'll tell you where you can get some. OK OK there's some on Etsy right now...

I thought I was going to love this one, but there is something in there that is obnoxious to me, I will retest in a couple of days, but as of now, it's no. Well yeah, and then it actually rested, and now has blended into something quite gorgeous, and very unlike all the other red musk or honey things that I have already. I think what was not so good was the mint, but it seems to have stopped making a fuss now.
-
I love this, the lavender does come through but it's not too aggressive, it's lovely. I am getting the same feeling as from the Hair Gloss of the same name, but the scent of this is thankfully much stronger to me. Another Pain-ful win.

Well there's nothing I can say to follow up that review Except yes, this is full of awesome and win, gorgeous roses but not single note, coming to my house...
-
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lillies for the win!!!!!!!!! I love this one, it's heady and rich, I put a drop on my hand and I could smell it all over. Awesome.

I Loved You at First: But Afterwards Your Love
stellamaris replied to VioletChaos's topic in Lupercalia
This is gorgeous, and a beautiful sort of traditional lovely floral. Nice when I don't want to overwhelm. So glad I got a bottle of this unsniffed. I think this may be my favorite of the Lupers this year, it's so well blended, so heady but not like a punch in the head, more like a mist of gorgeousness. -
There is something really aggressive and sharp in the wet note of this, and the initial dry down lets more of the Dragon's Blood (which is one of my favorite notes) come out, but it's a dry DB, not a juicy fruity one. This seems very "boy" to me. The end dry down is nice, but I think not worth the initial blast. I am on the fence over this one, there is something in the top note that I really hate, but it disappears immediately upon dry down, and the dry down is awesome. Although as October Gwen says it's not Attack of the DBR, it's still there and wonderful, but it is blending with everything else with a surprising freshness. This one is really interesting and complex, but not heavy. I may have to take a chance.

so perfect...love this one, it's so rich and gorgeous, the same sort of feeling probably from the patchouli, as Incubus Leaving Two Sleeping Women, but a bit less heavy handed.

This, with a side of Mahogany. I did mention it, but what she said The thing is, it seems to get more cherry as it ages.

Best BPALs for SUMMER - is it hot, sweltering, sticky outside?
stellamaris replied to Donnababe's topic in Recommendations
My favorites for really hot summer are anything with the "snow" note, those always feel refreshing to me, notably Dust of Snow, Cloister Graveyard in the Snow, Cloth of Gold, Yellow Snowballs. I also like high pitched flowery things, like Lenan Sidhe, and Strings in Earth and Air. I usually wear Snake Oil blends when I want something long-lasting... at past years of South by Southwest I've worn Womb Furie and Western Diamondback, and today when we went out to listen to live music I really wanted to wear Smoky Moon 2012, but put on a little Snake Oil itself so that I'd be sure to at least smell like some kind of scent when the day was done. I think Halloween: Las Vegas has also worked for this sort of thing. So maybe Snake Oil + something fruity? Mme. Moriarty might also be long-lasting in the same way if you have that (I previously had a decant of it but it wasn't my thing). I would recommend Urd or Skuld -
Wow. I got a bottle of this from Etsy, and tried it (a few months ago), and dismissed it as "blergh. really Boy." and put it up in the Sell Maybe shelf. I took it down last night, and went straight to Etsy to look for more (wha? I thought I had a New No Back Ups Rule?) This is awesome stuff, deep rich sandalwood, without too much pulpy stuff, just lightly sweet incense with a rich background. Very unisex, but I don't know if my husband is getting full use of it. I slept in this last night and found it wonderfully calming. No powder, and the feeling is light, but it's not super light, and definitely long lasting.

Hmmmm, it's mysterious. I can hardly smell this one, it's the Gaslight Hair Oil for me. Today it was sort of very Frankincense Light, which is fine, if I can't smell it, it can't possibly clash with my perfume, right?
-
This was the only one of my Luper decants that failed to get an upgrade. It smelled thin and weak on me, like watered down Lipton tea. That said, on my best BPAL pal, it smelled like awesome and win, the note that was strongest on her was the sugar cane, but it didn't go foody sweet, it was a reedy almost green thing. Just gorgeous. Like fresh ginger and sugar cane. Proving that BPAL can smell totally different on different people. This is not a myth, proven scientific fact here...
-
Silly me. Suck It. You need some of this stat. Suck It is juicy wonderful cherry. All cherry all the time.
-
I love this one, it's the perfect match for vanilla/flowery BPALs. The gloss itself is nice and light. I only have a decant of this, may have to upgrade soon.
