In the imp: Flowers, Musk and old man poo. On my skin: The flowers flee before the stench of nursing home sewage. Drydown: GOAT BUTT! Poop! After washing several times: goat butt. No can do. Sorry. I tried.
-
I, too, ordered my sample of Dorian based on the promising notes, and Andra's convincing review. Here is mine: In the imp: Lemony Vanilla Tea. YUMMY! Wet on my skin: Wow, this is delicious. Dark Tea, soft warm vanilla, with a sparkle of lemon! and musk. Teh sexy! Dry: Well. The maid serves the tea in the posh Victorian parlor whilst I am sitting opposite a very civilised Victoran gentleman. And as soon as the maid serving the tea is gone, this proper Victoran gentleman takes out several cans of Play-dough, opens them, and commences to make himself a pair of Play-dough pants. Oh well. Can't win them all.

Jack In the imp: Whoa. BUTTER!!!!!!!!! it screams at me. spice it murmurs. wet on my skin: I smell a generic pumpkin pie spice, overlaid with extremely rude and bumptious butteroid scent. It's simultaneously sweet and buttery. Dry: The butter dies a dramatic death. Good riddance. The spice is still there, with a definite pumpkin note. I can smell the peach too, that's pretty nice. BUt overall... not nice AT ALL. Jack is a jerk.

Bought this bottle on Ebay. In the bottle: OOOOOOH! So delicious! FUNNEL CAKE! and cotton candy, and caramel. Wonderful On my skin: Instant Plastic and Burnt Band-Aid. At least I got to try it....
-
In the imp: Whew. I smell Honey, honey. And Vanilla. And Powder. Wet on my skin: A blast of cloyingly sweet honey with slightly grubby smell to it. Powder and Vanilla are sulking off to one side. Drydown: Dirty babypowder and sticky sweetness.. In conclusion: This smells like an unclean pervert handing out sticky gross candy. And not in any kind of sexy way. Honey does terrible things when it contacts my skin.

This was a frimp from the Lab, and thank you, thank you, thank you! Because this, ladies and jellyspoons, is what I was waiting for. This beats Othello for the number one spot on my "love it" list. In the Imp: Strong! A beautiful herbal/green scent, with an amber base. The herbs have a subtle bitter edge to them, making them seem slightly dangerous... Wet on my skin: OOOOH! I get a mental picture of succulent green growth crushed underfoot, a green flowing sort of scent. There's a little citrus bite, and a lovely soft amber and musk base. Drydown: The green flowing scent fades slightly, as a glowing, warm, rich amber and musk scent develop. The earthy complexity of patchouli grounds this. The citrus pops up occasionally, keeping things lively. The herbs are still sweet and green. Picture a golden August day, around haying time... Hours later, I can still get strong whiffs of the scent. My experience with BPAL so far has been that the scent fades in 2 hours. This is still going at an appreciable level 8 hours later. Husbelf: "I LOVE THAT ONE!" Me: "it's called Mantis." Husbelf:"Like the bug?" Bug me, Baby. Big Bottle. Right now.

In the bottle: Holy Pine, Batman! Pine, with a strong hit of menthol, and a hint of aquatic. Wet on skin: Pine. Piney pine pinety pine. and menthol. with a hint of berries. Dry, 30 minutes: The pine dies down and a more complex scent evolves, with fir, florals, and a berry background. I think this is very pretty, so I offer my arm to the Husb-elf to sniff: Oio: "smell!" Husbelf: ::sniffs, recoils:::: Oio: "well?" Husbelf: "Eww! Pine, Vicks, and Robitussin!" So. I think it smells pretty good, maybe as a room scent. Husbelf thinks it should be put in the medicine cabinet and applied to sick little elves. It's no Talvikuu, though. Off to a more appreciative home.

Silk Road In the imp: Resinous, spicy, cinnamon Wet on skin: CINNAMON!! Wow. Not red hots either, pure cinnamon stick. Slight resin in background Drydown: Cinnamon dies down gradually. Resin, incense and a faint tinge of patchouli blend into warm spicy perfume. Conclusion: Pretty. Spicy. Pretty spicy. Not my thing, really, but could be terrific on the right person.

The caterpillar In the imp: Sharp green scent, backed by a whiff of incense and musk. Wet on skin: Mossy, Sharp, faint smoke, and neroli. Drydown: HAHAHA! A wiggly yellow-green scent shows up! Jasmine and neroli= fat greeny-yellow caterpillar! The incense gets much stronger. Wow. That’s just brilliant. Later: The scent evens out into a powdery incense. Conclusion: Fantastic performance piece. Pretty good as a perfume to wear around, I’m curious as to what it smells like on the husbelf.

Kitsune-Tsuki In the imp: Cool spring daffodils, white musk, with a hint of plum. Wet on skin: Strong scent of daffodils. I am reminded of the bouquets of yellow happy flowers that our local hospice sells each spring as a fundraiser. Drydown: The daffodils blend with musk and plum. It’s a cool, sweet, pretty scent. Later, plum dominates, with musk and florals in the background. Conclusion: A great scent to remind me that winter won’t last forever, and spring will come again. It would be a nice scent for a young girl!
-
Cathedral In the imp: A whiff of incense, with a strong cedar overtone, and an acrid waxy sort of edge. Wet on skin: Kerosene, followed by a blast of cedar. Drydown: The kerosene fades, and the cedar settles down as warm, sweet, smoky incense develops. The scent gets sweeter and more mellow the longer it is on. It’s great on my skin, and I want to get more so I can scent the rooms! Conclusion: My second big bottle purchase. Love it. Can’t wait to try Midnight Mass!
-
Othello In the imp: Beautiful, slightly sharp, rich floral over a soft musky powder base. Certainly not a masculine scent. Wet on skin: Powder, with slight rose over it. Drydown: Roses bloom, something very like vanilla glows at the base, and a soft musk embraces it all. Something sparkling like peach or plum is also faintly glimmering. Absolutely lovely. After a while, the roses fade, but the delicious vanilla-y musk lingers. I smell delicious. Conclusion: Not a lot of throw, and lasts only a few hours. But, no matter. My first Big Bottle purchase has made itself known. I love this scent.

Alice IN the Imp: Strong, bright bergamot, with honey and milk. Almost candy-like. Wet on: Whew! Honey. and a strong sweet fruity scent. Is that the tea? The honey and the bergamot are having a screeching match, and milk is referee. Dry on: MMM. Milk is calming the honey. I think my skin must amplify honey notes, because this smells a lot like White Rabbit, with a citrus candy smell. I never get roses in this, and the carnation is very faint. Conclusion, ladies and jelly-spoons: Interesting, but not fab.

In the imp: Honey and tea and milk! Slightly fruity (ginger?). Wet on skin: Strong honey scent. Drydown: THe milk comes out to calm the hyper-honey scent. It's warm and sweet. I was hoping for more of a gingery-peppery bite to it, but it's quite pleasant. I don't get tea at all in this, but my skin is dry and may have soaked it all in. Fades quickly, not much throw. Best scent tried so far, but not me.

The Hanging Gardens imp: fruity, figlike, fresh green floral. Wet on skin: fruit(fig?) and cinnamon. cinnamon gets stronger. fruit and floral pushed way back. dry on: complex. cinnamon dies down, figgy floral is back. smells very much like fruity incense, unlit. Very nice. edited for formatting stuff.
