    Velvet

In the bottle: Chocolate and vanilla, but not overly foody. On me: The cocoa and vanilla is ultra smooth, and the myrrh just makes it furry. I’m going to have a love affair with my wrist now.

    Alice

This was a frimp and I’d noted down I wasn’t planning on ordering it because it sounded too girly, but I did want to try it at some point. In the bottle: Carnations and a hint of rose. Wet: It must be a combination of the carnations, rose and bergamot but this turned to instant soap!!! Dry: The soap vanished and what’s left is a mildly spicy, creamy carnation scent. It’s absolutely amazing and now I understand why this is so well liked. It’s not too girly for me at all – it IS innocent, but not young. It’s like a poem about sweet hope and love.

    Lady MacBeth

In the bottle: Mmm, wine and grapes and wild berries. Wet: A crystal goblet filled with juicy boysenberries soaking in zinfandel. There is a dark green tint to the glass, making it rich and wild. Dry: This is what I wanted Bewitched to be like on me… everything wonderful about Bewitched but without that dreadful black musk which is so like powdered death on me.

In the bottle: A sweet vanilla tea with a hint of lemon. Wet: Holy hell and Hannah lemon creamy amazingness. Never could I have imagined such a glorious scent from my wrist. Like spreading mounds of vanilla-ed whipped cream over the softest lemon cake. It’s not natural in any way. This is like beating a lemon cake (from cake mix) with some added vanilla extract for fun, that soft, mousse-like texture. Dry: The musk is finally vying for my attention, and what a sweet musk it is. It is less lemon now, but it’s still like vanilla cake batter from a box. Hours later it’s all white musk, which is a little old lady-ish, but still yummy.

    Les Bijoux

In the bottle: Hmm, I don’t know but something sweet (but not overly so) and floral (again not overly so). Promising. Wet: I think I smell honey, but nothing else is specific enough – it’s all melded together like soft music. Drying: No! Don’t go away… I was just getting to know you… If I sniff hard I detect some honey musk and a hint of the rose, which is crimson and velvety. Dry: Oh my, yes… a perfect balance between rose, honey and sweet, white fruit (the apple and peach together just seem crisp and juicy but I can’t separate them). The musk only deepens it and doesn’t overwhelm at all. Beautiful.

    Bengal

In the bottle: A sweet spice. Wet: Oh my god spices! Sugary chai spices – I’m swooning! Dry: Dry and spicy, sweet, just like honey sweetened chai tea (no milk!). I’m THRILLED with this one.

    Morgause

In the imp: Jasmine, incense and violets. I don't smell fruit which makes me nervous. On me: Jasmine and only jasmine. My wrists have grown a million tiny mouths and they're all screaming "jasmine jasmine jasmine!!!". NOTHING else. I'm waiting and waiting and there is nothing else there. I thought there was supposed to be fruit in it... amongst other things. I guess I've discovered that my skin is of the jasmine-amping type I've read so much about. Can I trade my skin in?

    Snake Oil

In the imp: dark and incensy, but very sweet. On: Sweet like burnt sugar, but also overwhelming, darkly incense. I can see why others would like it, but it's too much for me. ETA: It does become a dark and sexy vanilla about 3 hours later, but that's too long to wait for that heavy incense to smooth out.

In the bottle: This is my first experience with orchid, and although it smells strong, it also smells creamy and exotic and promising. Wet: Definitely a strong, dusky floral. It’s a little smoky too, and creamy. I smell the vanilla, which is ultra smooth like pudding. Dry: Oh my, this is LOVELY!! This is going to be a great girly scent for me. The vanilla is soft and not heavy at all, and the orchid is rich but not heady or overwhelming. Gorgeous. I AM SO IN LOVE!!!

    The Hesperides

In the bottle: Apples! With an off note that makes me feel angry for some reason. Wet: Very apple, with that off note wafting. Drying: These apples aren’t crisp – they’re bruised and soft and have been lying on the ground until late November. I do not detect any wood, unless my nose in misinterpreting it. Dry: There’s the wood. And the apples have been carried away… it’s like I’m sticking my nose in a cardboard box after a farmer’s market in October. This is a good scent for the Okanagan – natural and dry and golden brown.

    Horreur Sympathique

In the bottle: Grapes – like the Dimetapp Elixir Mum gave me when I was a kid. Wet: More and more grapes – like a huge glass of Welch’s. Drying: Ooh, I’m detecting some rose or some other luscious, juicy floral along with these grapes. There is a tickle of a promise of other things to come… Dry: Grapes, honey, roses. Sweet and beautiful. Hubby really likes it too.

    Lampades

In the bottle: Mmmmm, cranberries! Delicitous! But what is that floral sneaking around the corner? Wet: Where did the cranberry go? Why do I smell like wet lilies? Drying: Wow that was fast. All rotting lilies and that black musk that smells like I'm tunneling into death. Ugh. Dry: Okay, better. All the notes have smoothed out and are harmonizing. I smell each and every one and it's rather pleasant, but I just can't stand the smell of lilies no matter how much I'm liking this cranberry/spice combo. And my skin SO hates the black musk. Oh well.

    Akuma

This is so sharp & stinging, like grapefruit juice shot right up your nose. As it dries it turned into cruel, orange jollyranchers. Where were the raspberries?

    Dragon's Heart

In the bottle: Sharp & bloody. Interesting - can't wait to try it! Wet: Still sharp but now soap over dark musk... Drying: The musk is glowing through and it's no longer sharp; now all heavy & dark. It's like a bloated, black musk, all moist & humid. Dry: I smell heavy & close & damp, like some hot, unearthly cave. This is way too claustrophobic and darkly musky for me. No no no.

    New Orleans

I received this as a freebie with my order. I never would have ordered, and I won't be wearing it again, but I was honoured to try it as it's a fascinating blend. I adored the combination of lemon and spice, always in the background. However the honeysuckle strangled it, heavy and cloying. I'd love to find that lemon & spice hanging out with someone other than honeysuckle though, because they'd be cool friends to have.

    The Hanging Gardens

This perfume is an interpretation of the Hanging Gardens by night, based on further accounts of its fruit and flora: date palm, ebony, fir, pomegranate, plum, two pears, quince, fig, and grapevine with plumeria, three gardenias and dry rose. In the bottle: Sweetly peach with maybe a hint of rose. Wet: A lovely wet peach with a little hint of floral and rose. Drying: The peach is smoothing out, but it's still juicy and so real. The florals are rising, especially the rose. And I detect something soft and sweet, like vanilla. Dry: This is a lovely soft peach complete with peach fuzz, and plenty of not-overwhelming rose. It's lush and sweet and lovely. Now... here's the question. Why is there no mention of peach in this...? Definitely one of my faves.

    Siren

In the bottle: A nice soft ginger, a bit of floral. Wet: Again, ginger with a touch of some pale flowers. Here comes the apricot though! Drydown: The apricot is so round and sparkling and shiny. This is heavenly! The jasmine is dancing with the apricot on a dance floor waxed with vanilla. Darn, hubby says it smells too typical, like a normal perfume. But I’ll still wear it a bunch, heh.

    Eden

In the bottle: Holy hell that’s some strong and punchy almond/coconut!!! Wet: Why should almond/coconut sting so??? Dry down: That was the fastest disappearing act I’ve ever experienced! That slap of almond/coconut mellowed right out and has left something incredibly complex and lush and captivating. It is so dark green, but smooth as all hell. My nose is still pretty virginal, so I can’t separate all the different notes. The only ones I can definitely identify are the coconut and almond, which are still waving hello to me from behind a silky curtain. My second favourite so far for this BPAL newbie!

    Bewitched

The imp just spat all over my hand, so I guess Bewitched wanted to be reviewed next. What an attitude! In the bottle: Hey, green berries. What a fun concept. Wet: Yup, those berries sure are green! Dry down: The green berries have put on fuzzy sweaters and are drinking sweet tea. This literally DANCES on my skin and I can’t help smiling. At the end this is all lightly berried musk. I love this dark musk – it’s so smooth and silky. I must find more like Bewitched!!! It's definitely my favourite so far from my first ever order!

    Kabuki

In the bottle: Cherry cough syrup! Wet: Dark cherries. It smells like it’s eating my wrist. Wet anise is not pleasant though. Dry down: This became entirely licorice. No cherries. No musk. I smell like black ju-jubes. This is not for me!

    Morocco

In the bottle: I’m not sure… I smell some kind of soft spicy, but there doesn’t seem to be anything there. Wet: I still don’t seem to smell much. Just a soft hint of spice. Drydown: This sweetened up so fast! I put on the tiniest dab just in case, and I was right. My skin is becoming sweeter and more fragrant every second. This is actually what I pictured Snake Oil to smell like from its description and reviews. Sugared oily and incensey, soft musk. I’m feeling a little woozy from it, we’ll see if the sweetness tones down. When I was playing with scent concocting I made one that was all spices and a bit of musk which I called “Sand in My Toes”. This scent is more apt for that name than what I made. This is like squishing superfine sand in between your toes while a warm breeze filled with musky spices wafts past you. Oh my god, that’s the description. How the hell does she do it??? Okay, 15 minutes after that, I smell like sticky buns. Where is this yeast smell coming from? Hours later, all I’m smelling is vanilla sugar. I think this is far too sweet for me. Edited to add: I just thought I'd mention that I rediscovered Morocco when I layered it with some clove bud essential oil I have - I still smell like cinnamon buns, but hot damn are those cinnamon buns sexy as hell. DELICIOUS!!!

    Blood Kiss

In the bottle: Oooh, swollen, creamy cherries with something just a bit rotten behind it. Wet: The same as in the bottle, but with a tiny nip of something bitter and medicinal introducing itself. Drydown: This is exactly as described. It’s tasty, like licking dark cherry juice and cream from lips layered in lipstick. I detected the clove about 15 minutes after I put it on. Over the day I noticed some yummy, vanilla/spicy scent wafting up to meet my nose and thought “ooh, something smells really tasty” then realized it was me! It won’t be everyday wear because it’s rather… luscious. But I sure will have fun with the imp!

    Blood Amber

Yay for my first review! In the bottle: Sweet, a little medicinal. Wet: Sweet and lilac with cherries. Hmm, strange. Dry down: Mmm, soft, sweet, spicy cherries. It smells warm, sweet and red to me, like big, swelling berries of some ilk. I have yummy skin! The lilac mutated really fast, yay. Later: I’m getting a bit of a sickly undertone. But it’s not very prominent. I kept smelling it a bit whenever I woke up during the night and it would startle me. I guess I should only apply this in the morning!
