bottle: so clean! a total shock after putting on crowley! a little herbal or soapy. just put on its very, very cottony and soft. so nice. soapy but not in a bad way. soft like skin. i feel a little green but don't smell florals or herbs. i will definitely wear this! many hours later, it smells just like soft, warm skin. i don't get the cotton much but its still really wonderful. i want my clothes to smell like this after i wash them!

Autumn Scents - recommend the ones you love
foxroses replied to any_old_actress's topic in Recommendations
ahh autumn. my absolute favorite season for bpal. its not so hot like spring and summer, and you can nuzzle up with a warm scent.. ah. my fave. samhain in the past years has never worked for me, so i ordered the samhain linen spray and have high hopes. my favorite fall scents are punkie night (apples and cranberries!), santo domingo (the smokiness is so nice and warm, even if its a little tropical), bakeneko (tea! and spices. its nice, if not really fall-ish), and of course harvest moon 06 which is maybe the best scent on me EVER. i ordered this year's and i am hopeful its just as good or better! i've also got pumpkin queen and i had creepy, but they're both particularly strong/intense on me and i don't wear them that often. miskatonic u is another one i love for fall, because its so cozy/bookish. i ordered hellhound on my trail, fearful pleasure, and gunpowder this year as well - see a theme? haha. i am debating going back for things like chant d'automne and to autumn and some of the other halloweenies that i wasn't sure enough to order first. i'm really curious about a blade of grass, too. yay autumn! -
I was a pinup girl and wore just a touch of Mme. Moriarty. It wasn't quite right, but it sure smells yummy!!

i haven't properly reviewed this yet, but generally i'm smelling what you guys are smelling - ginger candy, sandalwood, grapefruit, nice and clean. my boyfriend apparently smells canned peaches.

Each bottle of Chaos Theory is truly unique, a fragrant fractal, and exercise in the joy of chance and uncertainty! Each is a one-of-a-kind, utterly random combination of scents, the composition of which is based on whim, mood and gut instinct. DXXVII i have an imp of this, and OMG, TO DIE FOR. i MUST get more, holy CRAP. in the imp it smells musky, tangy, maybe a HINT citrusy? but once you put it on it mellows out into this amaaazzzing vanilla and spices! i think it's got some light musk in there somewhere also. sometimes i smell a bit of woods or resin but woods usually go AWFUL on me so i'm not sure exactly what it is. definitely vanilla, and definitely spices. nothing like cinnamon or spicy though, just, spiced. possibly cardamom, or saffron? those come to mind. it might have some cocoa in it as well, but cocoa usually smells grossly bitter on me and this is sweet, sugary, not overwhelmingly foody, although i'm sure foody scent lovers would adore this. it smells more sugary and foody on my fingers than my wrists. must.. get... more! eta: i haven't seen this in this thread yet or in the master list posted on LJ http://community.livejournal.com/bpalanonymous/633615.html ADDED 9/15/08: ...It's definitely still that good. I finally managed to get more and so I am finally allowing myself to wear this. Its very mahogany/woods, very dark, almost chocolatey but it doesn't smell like chocolate, it just reminds me of it. Definitely some vanilla or resins and a lot of spice. It's spicier now than I remember. It sort of reminds me of the dark, rich cousin of Antikythera Mechanism, like aged 100 years or something. Dark woods, not light teak, and very spicy. I get some cassia as it dries, or similar, but not spicy red hots, very smooth. It sits really close to my skin, especially about 4-5 hrs after I applied, but its still just as delicious. I get a whiff of vanilla farther away, and woods up close. Ah, this is definitely my BPAL holy grail. nothing else compares. MMMMMM.

i got imps of "brittle" and "war" in an imp package from a swap.. i don't have the package (my bf has it at the apartment, i'm out of town), he says they're "fan printed" i.e. don't have the bpal label. but i can't find anything about these. are they nonbpal?? thanks!

this happens to me at first as well. for the first 30 minutes or so of having it on its this disgusting, awful, bitter smell. it went sweet sugared vanilla on my boyfriend but on me.. i put on just a tiny bit this morning to try it, and i couldn't stand it. but i figured i only had on a little and i was too lazy to scrub it off, so i just put some carnal on my wrists and neck (the smut was on the back of my hand) and left. i model for my school's life drawing class, and they usually have a little heater going. about halfway through class i started smelling something yummmmy. really sweet, musky, sexy delicious! it didn't smell like carnal, though. i was kind of shocked that such a tiny swipe of smut could smell so strongly and have so much throw! it's yummy though! it's turned into this delicious, vanilla-sugar-booze scent.. it's a little lighter and sweeter on me than dirty throwdown sex, but still VERY sexy, like i FEEL sexy and confident. a keeper, if i can get past the first little bit!

first thoughts on this, as i just got my imp and haven't been able to test it for long.. wet: oooh... i am so glad i got a bottle of perfumed garden cause unless it does something fucked up in a bit, this is niiice. wet on skin: i can vaguely smell apple, but there's some other fruitiness in there (quince and citron) definitely. you can tell its layered over musk vs. like a floral, but the myrrh and jasmine (trouble notes for me) are actually nice. 5 min: its not as sweet now as it was right on but still nice. it's weirddly apply, like it doesnt smell like apples, but you.. get it.. somehow. 5 min: the jasmine is coming out a bit on me so i hope it doesn't stay that way. i still actually quite like it

in the bottle this smells very pink and green, nice and sweet. once i put it on, it just blooms into SOAPPPP. holiday moon did the exact same thing on me, it just turned to green soap. budding moon turns into peony soap. but after about 30 minutes or so, its actually quite nice. i don't really know how to describe it, i'll have to come back here after i wear it for a full day. i definitely think i'm getting the plum blossom, and maybe some ginger? but i'm not sure. this needs a fully day. it alternates between bubble-gummy sweet, light floral, and a bit soapy. hmmmm. but i like it

when i smell this in the bottle, it smells SO woody, just all sandalwood. once i put a bit on, though, it turns maddeningly into ROSES. nasty, yucky, smelly rose. it stays that way for about 15 minutes or so - i thought it was going to be a waste of a bottle. about 10 minutes or so after that, though, there is something sweeter coming out, and the florals are fading. the rosey grandma soap smell is fading, and i dont know if it's vanilla bean, or amber, or date palm, or what, i.e it doesn't smell particularly like any of those, but it's making it tolerable on me. there is quite a bit of throw and its all quite floral, but this might actually grow on me. my first response was that i'd be selling my bottle, but we'll see. hour and a half later: WOW, this is turning REALLY nice. whatever weird rose floral i was getting, its pretty much completely gone, and it's a really delicious honey vanilla. this needs a full test day but i think this may have gone a complete 180 on me, and could be turning into something amazing.

here's my play-by-play of putting it on, on aim with the boyfriend in the bottle: WHOA caramel... 2 min later: it goes a little weird, but nice. Macha said "something astringent" and thats true, it's something bitter on me, but not very strong. just a bit of it. 5 min later: the caramel is coming back, itsreally nice and sweet 5 min: kinda coconutty, i like it... a lot 5 min: it is a bit fruitysweet, in a way, but not really? so like.. maybe its the amber. i dont smell amber particularly but its golden sweet like that.. there is something a little bitter though. there's opium in it, which it may be that.. and delphinium, and i dont know what that is. 10 min later: that bitterness is going away, its getting nicer.. mmm the caramel is coming back in force. i loove the caramel/tobacco combination 5 min later: some people are making sweet coffee comparisons, and i see that, it does kinda smell like.. not LIKE coffee, but like.. i dunno. a sweet coffee caramel? just like being in a coffee shop, but not LIKE coffee smell, if that makes sense. i was kind of rambling, but i can't ever really write eloquent reviews. its been about 30 minutes of wearing it and its really lovely, caramelly coconutty without being too sweet or strong. there's definitely some amber and tobacco underneath, keeping it from being overly candyish. YUM. i'm glad i got a second bottle of this!

in the imp, it smells like fake almond, sick and sweet, just like hecate and hellcat did. but not as strongly. when i put it on, its a very nice, sweet almond and spice, really nice actually. about 2 hours later, though, all i am smelling is an incredibly faint rosey smell, layered with spice. it seems like it would smell really nice, except it's so faint it's barely there. believe it or not, this is a rose i would like and wear, but what do i have to do, bathe in it? i'll have to try this again after a while and see if it does the same thing.

i can't believe it hasn't been said... red phoenix! yummmmmm! it's cassia, so its like a rounder, smoother cinnamon. al-shairan also smelled like redhots on me.

finally got an imp of this in a swap i definitely get a lot of patchouli and cardamom in the very beginning in the bottle, very spicy and almost musky to me. on one wrist it turned immediately to leather, and on the other wrist it was sweeter, with some bourbon in it. in the end, after a few hours, it's mostly leather on me, but in a sweet way, but i can definitely get hints of cardamom and some patchouli. a really gorgeous, well rounded blend on me, i really really love it.

oh man, i need a bottle of this like whoa! i think tonka and benzoin are things that Love Me A Lot, because jacob's ladder = the first 5mL i ever bought. and aeval and a few other things with tonka really like me as well. on first application this is really spicy, but there's something really lovely and sweet underneath - definitely the benzoin and tonka, but probably the musk, too. i don't really smell patchouli, i just know it's there because it adds some richness that i recognize. i'm not sure i specifiically get mandarin or plum either, but i'm sure it adds to the sweetness. it fades in about 5-10 min to a much sweeter scent, almost all the spicy goes away except for a lingering touch, and its just. so. perfect.

the first thing that came to my mind when you said victorian was Dorian (three pale musks and dark, sugared vanilla tea), but i think it's because of that infamous review of it: :D

BPAL blends that remind us of Chanel perfumes

you might like jacob's ladder, if you hurry and grab it. it's a very amber-y sweet golden scent -
i got an imp of megaera a while back, and upon opening it, i LOOOVE it. it's such a gorgeous, rich, spicy-sweet grapefruit, just delicious. i'm not sure if it's orris or amber i'm smelling that adds to it, but i know there is bergamot mixing in. i don't really recognize plum, but there's something fruity that isn't grapefruit, so i'm not sure if i see purple, or just white, really crisp white. but purple too. hm. the first time i tried it on, though, after about 30 minutes it turned into slightly grapefruit tinged baby powder. trying it again.. so far so good but it hasn't been long 10 minutes: so far.. still good. maybe i was having a bad day before :} 25 min or so later: kind of baby powdery. ugh. i think i need to layer this with something to tone down the babypowderness. it's like all the bergamot and plum and spicy go away, and i get light, fluffy, grapefruit scented babypowder. it smells good but not really what i had hoped for.

I'm working on an AppleWorks database of scents. It's mainly intended to keep track of which scents I've tried and what I thought of them, so it doesn't do all the clever swap/buy/sell tracking that the Excel file does, but if anyone is interested in a copy drop me a PM! you can get excel for macs, you know. i'm using nattie's spreadsheet right now, and it works just fine excel/office for macs is pretty cheap, or you can just grab a trial version, and then port the file over to something mac-usable

icy, almost minty. incredibly fresh, clear, and gorgeous. very green! it stays very true on the skin, nice and crisp. this is definitely a room scent, i would never wear it, but if i ever needed it to smell like snow-covered forest, this would absolutely be it. as usual, though, its turning much more pine-y on my skin as it dries.. me and fir/pine do NOT get along! it's alright though, as i won't be wearing this one.? icy, almost minty. incredibly fresh, clear, and gorgeous. very green! it stays very true on the skin, nice and crisp. this is definitely a room scent, i would never wear it, but if i ever needed it to smell like snow-covered forest, this would absolutely be it. as usual, though, its turning much more pine-y on my skin as it dries.. me and fir/pine do NOT get along! it's alright though, as i won't be wearing this one.?

this smells.. white. but i like it. its crisp.. am i getting a hint of vanilla? that must be the flowers, but they are sweet/dusty, very dry, but not floral in the way i expected. i'm totally getting vanilla. i don't get almond or coconut, just light, faint, paperwhite vanilla. delicious!
