Lady Lilith, Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Climbing rose, vanilla cream, vanilla flower, white tea, mandarin, red and white musks, opium poppy, Parma violet, and opoponax. In the Bottle: This is SO nice. Floral, but I typically don't do floral, yet this is delicious. I'm not sure what I'm getting other than lots of white tea but it's very, very nice. Wet: Ooh, soo nice. Lots of tea, and definitely some opium poppy and mandarin. The musk is tying it all together, it's very nicely blended, I don't smell one thing over another very much. I think the rose or violet is coming out, something more floral, but again, it's not doing that sour thing that some florals (jasmine, gardenia, carnation) do on me. This is sweet, soft, very clean and fresh. It actually reminds me a lot of Kumiho with the white tea, but more floral and sweet. Dry: It's a little sharper as it dries - the opoponax maybe? It doesn't smell like opoponax in any of the other blends I've tried but it's something a little sharper, less floral. I think I get a lot of rose, too, but its white and clean; lots of tea, definitely some mandarin. This is truly delicious, I should have gotten two bottles Yum!!

Snake Oil blended with Dorian, plus soft vanilla flower, lily of the valley, lavender, and fennel. I'm sort of shocked that I'm the first person to get/start a review on this. My first review thread! Some people did review this over in the Will Call threads though I should note before I begin that I took a chance on this, and lavender and I don't get along that well, haha. In the Bottle: I get tons of lavender! Yikes! I can tell there's something else there but all I really smell is lavender. Wet On: Much softer, and very floral. I can tell there is some Dorian mixed in, as I recognize that soft tea/vanilla smell underneath. The lavender is fading as it dries but it's still a very prominent note. Mostly Dry: I do get some fennel here as its getting dry, but not significantly, and it doesn't smell like the anise/fennel in Huesos de Santos to me either. It's a very nicely blended floral; I can't pick out vanilla flower or lily of the valley, but I know they are there, nice and smooth. I don't get any Snake Oil but I will report back once it's been worn for a few hours. I haven't worn this for a full day yet but my general consensus is its really nice and soft, very baby floral, but also very lavender. I get more Dorian than Snake Oil but again, will report back once I wear it more! edit: I'm getting some throw when I'm typing that is just DELICIOUS. I'm not sure what it is but I'm 99% sure it's coming from LV (as opposed to Lady Lilith on the other arm, haha). Yummm. edit the second: NOW I'm getting Snake Oil. My boyfriend said it smelled like dryer sheets, and it went through a kind of weird phase but now I get a lot of SO and I really like it. I like it a lot more than SO by itself!

Cardamom! It's not as sweet as I thought it might be, nor as spicy and intense as some other spice/food blends. Kind of carefree and light actually. Love.

Did I get the wrong thing? This smells nothing like coffee to me, nothing at all like the coffee in Misk U. It smells kinda... funky and rancid. Gonna have to give this one another try because for whatever reason my skin HATES this today.

Has anyone tried Tokyo Milk Dark's Bulletproof? http://www.tokyo-milk.com/products/bulletproof-no-45-parfum "Smoked Tea, Coconut Milk, Crushed Cedar, Ebony Woods" I don't know how to describe it, but this stuff is DIVINE. Would love to have a similar BPAL instead though.

I am really confused about this. I put a tiny bit on to test last night. First it smelled too much like incense, then cat pee? Now (next morning) I can barely smell where I applied it. However, I keep getting the most amazing whiff of something when I am typing, and this is the only thing I applied??

I went with Black Lace I've tried SC in the past, but I feel like my tastes and skin are pretty different now, and I've never tried BL, so here we go!

I have the opportunity to swap a bottle of mine for either Black Lace or Snake Charmer. Which one!? I love vanilla-y, musky, amber-y, wood, spicy notes, so Snake Charmer seems a good pick, but Mme. Moriarty was just OK on me, and Snake Oil.. I like it, but I never picked to wear it. So between that and more fruity/coconutty, I'm not sure. I sniffed an old version of SC back in the day but never got to try it on. I have never tried Black Lace. I love the idea of it but I am not sure of how it'll be on me. MMM, tobacco and cognac.. yum. White Rabbit just smelled like pepper on me, though, so, that's worrisome. My faves right now are this vanilla/wood/spicy Chaos Theory, Antikythera Mechanism, Misk U, Harvest Moon 06, Perversion, Coral Snake, Western Diamondback, Lady Lilith, Mouse's Long and Sad Tale. I like but never quite loved Crowley, Buggre Alle This Bible, Illustrated Woman, Grindhouse, Cockaigne. Thoughts??

Got a bottle of this in a swap! In the bottle: omg wine! also very fruity. Pretty intense. Wet: plums! cherries! omg! Interestingly, now it's getting spicy. I don't really get coffee, incense, or oak in particular, as in it it doesn't smell LIKE coffee/oak/incense, but i am getting a creaminess or smokiness that makes me think OF them, particularly incense and coffee. It doesn't smell floral to me, because florals usually get funky, but there's a sweet/creamy part to this that really smoothes it out, which I suspect is the rose. Rose used to be awful on me, but I just got Khajuraho and it has some rose in it and it's lovely, and this I suspect is doing the same thing. As it dries, I definitely get more oak/incense. Way less fruit than I was smelling before, but it's just divine. I just smelled the bottle to compare and PHWOAR wine, but on my arm it is a smokey, smooth, just a bit fruit/wine to round it out. Oh man, this was a long shot purchase but it's paying off BIG TIME. I LOVE this. ~10 min later: oh.. blood. well hey. Suddenly there's a dried/dark, almost tobacco-y blood. Maybe tobacco = black incense? There's none of the cherry fruit I was getting before but it's still really delicious. A hint of rose, too, at least I can smell it, instead of just suspecting it's there. Will report back after a full day's wear

So I guess I really wanted to like this but didn't, because I swapped it away. I just got a bottle in a swap though, because it stayed on my wishlist regardless. And this time I love it! I'm attributing the change to a few years worth of skin chemistry change and aging the bottle. In the bottle I get dates and amber, now. I can tell there's sandalwood but it's not overwhelming like in my previous review. When applied and wet, I do still get roses, but amazingly, they're not "nasty, yucky, smelly rose" anymore. It's more floral than I'd like, and a bit honeyish. More sandalwood now, and I think 'white' is appropriate—it's lighter than what I think of sandalwood as being. Has that smooth ambery note too. As it dries it gets date-y! I love that. The floral is still there, and I like that, because most florals I can't stand. I wanted this because of the amber/vanilla/date/sandalwood, and it's very different than I want it to be like, but this time I really like it. Later: mmmm... vanilla. There's almost something incensy coming out, which is just lovely. Actually, maybe it's the honey? It's sweet and creamy, and it's tempering the florals I was getting before. After a few hours: Now I get that creamy, vanilla honey. I can still get the sandalwood/date/incensy note, but not too much. I can see how it could go powdery on some people. It's very close to my skin now. Can I bathe in this? In my previous review when I wrote it had quite a bit of throw, I must have been out of my mind. This is warm and sexy without being sexual. It's more romantic sexy than dirty sexy. Like snuggling. Definite keeper. So good!

Got a frimp of this last night. In the bottle and wet it's very green! I can tell there's some florals in here but it isn't being horrible to me. I don't get fig at all. Oh wait... soap. wah-waaah. but it's a nice soap! oh well. Will give it another shot, as the idea of fig sounds lovely, but I am betting the flowers in this are just going to give me soap every time.

Yes, definitely can swap. But tobacco sounds yummy to me!

Thanks everyone! Seems pretty unanimous!

Thanks Sophie! Considering I just broke up with my BF and my Chaos Theory is my super-sexy scent for me (plus I have a decant of Smut and some other similars coming in swaps).. I think you might be right

Thanks! I think I have an imp of Schwarzer Mond somewhere that I should dig out. I LOVE the antikythera mechanism, not sure why it didn't occur to me that they were similar. I will definitely try Habu also. yum!

Anise, Aniseed, Licorice, Liquorice, Fennel, Ouzo?
foxroses replied to Reaver's topic in Recommendations
yes, Huesos de Santos is a very lovely anise background note. It's not the strongest but it's SO delicious. -
This smells like someone left a cream and tea soaked wool sweater out and it got wet and rotted. Bleurgh.

I get something weird at first here, probably carnation, which can go iffy on me. And jasmine. Note-reading fail. I definitely get some tonka and perhaps the honeysuckle? But it doesnt smell all that much like honey to me. I think the carnation and jasmine are taking over this one unfortunately. All I smell is icky flowers Where's my honeysuckle and fig? Alas.

NGH.. In the bottle its MMM cake, very cakey, like some of the monsterbaits. On skin it immediately turns more orange, very orange-glaze, I can just picture it! Definitely something creamy, I guess the custard. This is delicious! Ooh the anise is coming out to play now, and its wonderful. I was worried about the anise but its just a touch spicy and very delicious. I might need a bottle of this. I'm not really getting any flowers, but then again this isn't as foody of a blend as I think it would be without them.

I get something really light – lemon, or maybe the white sandalwood? Definitely some cassia, but its not cinnamony. Cassia and musk come out more when its applied, less lemon. Its sweet, so that's sugar cane, but not foody sweet, definitely you can tell its a plant, sort of raw brown sugar smell. I don't really get mango but it is probably contributing to that sweetness. The lemon comes back a little – this is deliciously well-rounded. I like this a lot. It's musky, but lemony, and light but definitely has that cassia tang.
-
Definitely spicy – something unusual, maybe the nutmeg? It doesn't smell all that similar to the cardamom in Bakeneko to my nose. A little floral, but not bad. Nice on. The unusual spice fades, blends better. This seems to fade on me incredibly fast. I can still smell it, just a touch, but it's becoming a little too floral for me. Agk headache. No thanks.
-
lighter than I thought! Definitely getting some sage – I think maybe its the tonka that is making it light, I thought snake oil + leather would be really dark and heavy. I do get leather but its subtle. I don't explictly smell sandalwood although I'm sure its contributing. I love this!! masculine and would go well on my bf but I love it on me, too. Later the leather comes out a lot more, so its more sandalwood/leather now, but still delicious. I may be getting a bottle. nom nom.

When I first tried this, it was after sniffing many other things, and this is what I wrote: bottle: PATCHOULI hello! i typically smell patchouli super strong in the bottle so hopefully it won't be so strong on. just on, still loads of patchouli.. a very dark oil. its calming down, getting some musk, but dry.. definitely some leather. mmmm this is nice. mahogany or oakmoss.. i've missed these dark, musky, woodsy scents. i used to wear them a lot but got away from it. its still pretty patchouli but i'm gonna give it some time to dry. there's something light on top that's probably the lilac or lemon, but i don't get either strongly. that is nice drier. quite patchouli but smoooooth smooth smooth, definitely some lemony or vanilla-y, leathery.. yum!! but as the evening wore on all I could smell was patchouli EVERYWHERE and it was quite nauseating. I was pretty sure it wasn't going to work on me, but I had swore to try again. I just put a dab on and my first instincts are GAH PATCHOULI again, but it's definitely smoother now. Definitely getting some mahogany or leather. Not really any vanilla but I think it may be the musk/mahogany/vanilla tying it together. I don't smell any lilac or lemon, although the throw is fairly strong on me and from farther away I do get a sharper/citrusier scent. It's getting more lemony as it dries. Maybe there is hope for Crowley and I after all. Oh wow the patchouli is really, really calming down. I don't even smell it in the throw anymore as was how it was killing me before. Suddenly this is turning really nice! Although I seem to have a slight lingering meh/headache from the patchouli. The boyfriend says he doesn't smell any patchouli but that it smells like old lady. Huh. Final verdict.. meh. I want to like but I'm not really sure.

The Antikythera Mechanism
foxroses replied to VioletChaos's topic in Phoenix Steamworks & Research Facility
In the bottle I get mostly tobacco and a kind of heavy vanilla. Fairly straightforward. Immediately on the first time I said tobacco/vanilla, but faint, and smooth. Today, all I smelled was teak. The vanilla comes out later and is smoked up nicely by the tobacco. Unfortunately on me its very very faint. It's VERY nice but I wish it was about 5x stronger. It really is delicious though - a teak, woodsy base note with wafts of smoke and vanilla smoothing the whole thing out - lovely. A plus for this one is that is LASTS. Usually blends fade on me and as this one is fairly light I thought it would, but come 6pm its still on. Although a big negative is what GentlemanCaller said: I feel exactly the same way. It's very nice but I almost don't notice I'm wearing it. I am going to have to try slathering a lot on because I feel like I could bathe in this and love it! -
bottle: quite herbal or astringent. i'm really hoping to get the bourbon vanilla out of this so i'm worried. i do smell some bay rum though. when i sniff the bottles of santo domingo (where i adore the bay rum and flowers) next to this they do smell similar. just put on i'm still getting that herbs.. not sure if its galangal or the root..? as it sits on the vanilla comes out a bit but not as much as i had hoped. it smells really delicious but also kind of flat - it's so humid in here right now i'm going to have to give it a try some other time. definitely smelling tobacco. so far i'm liking but not loving it. a little more vanilla but i'm not getting a lot of booze. this doesn't seem to have a lot of stay or throw on me. it just seems pretty flat. [the next day] i put this on the boy and OF COURSE its delicious bourbon vanilla i need to try this on me again but i definitely didn't get it. its very strong on him. won't be getting rid of it if it smells that good on him though, just not for me
