    Pele

This scent has a decidedly feminine aspect, but I'm wearing it today and love it. Of course, I also have a decidedly feminine aspect... but there we go. This is sunshine and fresh, warm summer rain with huge tropical flowers. Eden. You know... tropical paradise without all the bugs wildlife that bother you and shit. I love it. It's.... nurturing is the closest term I can get for it, and just very softly pink. Almost white. I want my sheets to smell like this. It's a floral version of how I remember sun-dried sheets smelling. Very soft and mushy and comforting. The best aspects of warmth, light, soft florals without the pounding too hard on any of them. YAY Pele!

This is one of the ones I got in my second order, on a few recomendations. Sadly, not really for me. It does blend together well, as the others have said, and I'm unable to really pick out any single notes execept, the sandalwood and frankincense being the strongest things I think I'm getting. I would classify this as a very North African/Egypty/Oriental sort of ethnic-y scent when wet. Which, I suppose, kinda makes sense. Drying on me, it very quickly goes straight baby powder before some of the neroli comes out to sweeten it. Altogether? Not me. I'm glad others like it. In some scents that go baby powdery on me, I like them in spite of it. This isn't one of them. Ugh, I always hate when my chemistry screws up one of Beth's creations.

Sweet dry grass. Things have a tendancy to go sweet on me, so... I dunno. I get the sense of sage, an offering burned on a altar. This has to be one of the most complex scents I've smelled in a while, as I can't really pick out any single note except perhaps sage. Then again, I'm not a tremendous note-picker so *shrug* It's okay. Not the best scent for me that I've gotten from the Lab, but I do know others are enjoying it. It's similar to Sol, which didn't get along with me at all, but makes sense considering the nature of the inspiration for both. On drydown, I'm getting less sage and more cinnamon with some sandalwood. I do think this would make excellent incense, and perhaps out of the smoke a genie will appear.

    Nephilim

LOVE! I'm just in a Fallen Angel do me do me type mood today between this and Azazel. Nephilim and Wilde were the two scents I was MOST interested in of the new ones, and bless Beth for both of them. Interesting in that they couldn't be more different. The earthy sweetness of fig runs all through this, wet and dry. That is why I'm planning on this being my 'winter' scent. I think it'll go well in colder temperatures. Wet, there's an almost candy sweetness to it which I attribute to the fig. Cypress, oakmoss and rosemary add a woody darkness which is also very nice. The sweetness never leaves as it dries, but it does deepen. I wore this when I went to get my hair done and all the ladies at the salon LOVED it, even the older ladies. They all stared blankly at me when I told them the name, but I enjoyed that.

    Loup Garou

S'okay. I can't tell the difference between juniper and pine either. Or, clearly, Eucalyptus which is all I could smell from initial application the first time I smelled this one. Easily, it's very much in my mental grouping of 'OH YEAH! That's masculine' scents along with Typhon. Wet, it's very juniper/eucalyptus. Stalking through the woods at night under a bright moon. Underneath, there are other scents playing around... perhaps the prey? Dry, it goes delightfully woody as many of the 'masculine' scents do. I'm thinking this one is an imp keeper, although I likely won't reorder for me. Viking, I'm thinking, will really like this one.

    Azazel

This, to me, smells /cold/. Or, at least, it did when I first sniffed it. On wet, it's very lemon/citron with an almost lime tartness. Under the surface there's a lingering shadow which is almost a negative scent, the bay an sage. It's very sweet going on, but oh... when it warms, one sees the Son of Fire indeed. After only a few moments on me, this incredible warm sage/bay/lavender scent comes to the fore and reminds me of a sorched orchard of lemon trees. It's seductive, and enticing. Like the pull of something you know you really shouldn't do, but just can't help play along with. For some reason, Spike from Buffy comes to mind when I smell this. While the scent is green and citron, its also dark and light... dark in a way that defines the light while remaining apart from it. If that makes any sense. Likely I'm just rambling. Anyway, I like it. I don't think it's a 5ml order for me, but I'm deffinitely keeping the imp. I can certainly imagine reaching for this on days when I want to shake off shackles and thumb my nose at convention.

    Kuang Shi

I got this as one of my precious extras in my order today, and honestly I'm more than a little surprised by it. Maybe it's the white musk? I dunno. But it's delicious! Go figure for zombie's huh? Wal-Mart sells these little candy sticks which are chocolate covered sticks of orange jelly. SO GOOD. They used to only sell them at Christmas, but now they have em all the time, as well as raspberry and mint. Wet, this smells like the inside of those sticks. Orange Jelly goodness. Also, rather startlingly, it smells like Fruity Pebbles. Which I love! On drydown tho, the fruityness does fall away leaving a smoldering, warm and vaguely smoky scent which is the white musk and sandalwood rising like offerings to gods. The fruit is still there on the altar, but it has served its purpose. I love this scent. It may be too sweet for me to wear, but I'll certainly find some way to use it. I suspect my girls will like it too. Very shocked and pleased. Ugh. Now I'm hungry.

    Jabberwocky

This is such a changeable, amorphous scent. Not that it lacks deffinition, but that it is as fickle about what face it presents as a Venitian courtisan. When I first tried it at Tygher and Salice's house a few weeks ago, it was EUCALYPTUS! In bright green neon, at that. It faded to almost nothing, and then shockingly came back as a real honest-to-gods orange. Pith, peel and all... I could smell it. It was like holding one. Now, I try it on again at home from an imp I got in my order today. It's completely different. Now it's PINE! costarring eucaluptus. And so subtly does the orange sneak in around the edges, like a child wanting to play. I had myself talked into not really caring for this as a cologne... now I'm going to have to rethink that. See what it changes into next time.

    Othello

I had high hopes. Sadly, like others, I can't describe this as a particularly masculine scent. It's very nice! Don't get me wrong. I used to play on an online game where one of the characters I played with often was a were-cat from India. Very exotic, sensually erotic woman. This is how I imagine her smelling. The rose and spices combine to form a heady, wafting scent. Very much like a market under the Middle-Eastern sun or something. The musk is clear, as are the rose scents... but I'd suggest trying even if you don't ordinarily like rose. I may be imagining it but I also catch some jasmine. It would make a great candle, even better incense... but not really a cologne for me.

    Whitechapel

LOVE. Pure and simple. I've been anxious about this one since I read it, and now I know why. White Musk. It's so where I'm at. I should have known. I completely agree with everything that's been said before. It is a citrus that slithers. SUCH a good way to describe it. It's like the little shiver you get when you bite into something sweet-bitter? That uncontrollable little jerky dance? Fresh out of the bottle, very much lime and citron. Very clean, very pure. On me it very quickly becomes the white musk mixing, perhaps, with the lilac. I'm unsure. It's very similar, VERY similar, to Phobos which I also love, although this becomes more of a floral. Deffinitely a keeper.

    Maiden

I haven't ever been a Maiden in physicallity, and haven't been a Maiden in concept for some few years, so we'll see how this goes This smells like I would imagine a bower would smell in a mideival castle. Or a women's solarium, with the needlepoint stands and quilting frames all about. Glorious colors bursting in sunlight before they fade away. White tea, I don't get at all. Rose and carnation do mix incredibly together, however. Wet, it's very warm and comforting. As it dries, it goes somewhat dusty. Not powdery, dusty. Like the bower has been abandoned, the threads and fabric rotted, colors all faded away. Maybe it's a statement on the fleeting nature of youth? Hm. This is a nice, light feminine scent despite how strong it seems out of the imp. Sadly, not for me. Maybe one of my girls will like it, tho. If not, swap city for this little girl.

    Hunger

Evil Dreamsicle, pure and simple, out of the imp. The first smell is the orange blossom followed quickly by the vanilla and cut by the black narcissus. Thus, the evil dreamsicle. On drydown, all I'm mostly getting is the vanilla with occasional whiffs of the orange. There's a slight powderyness to it, but I'm unsure if its because its going powdery on me like patchouli usually does or if it's just causing a mental echo of powderiness. If that makes sense. Not a big winner for me, sadly.

    Antony

I get a different effect every time I wear this. Fresh out of the bottle this time, it's a delightfully rich herby green smell. Like wallowing in a herb garden like a large, contented cat. I'm really getting the basil and sage this time around. On drydown, it's starting to go a little soapy on me... but that's okay. It works for this. I'm unsure what ambergris smells like, but I'm not getting any of the leather that I'm aware of except perhaps as an after-smell. Frankincense adds a thick incensy smell to the whole thing which I like... I'm just unsure I'll wear it much.

    The Sun

I though, being a Leo and all that, that this scent would be great for me. I was wrong. Literally, it made me nauseous and took my breath away, both out of the imp and on. I couldn't isolate any of the notes, because I was too busy having such a visceral reaction to the odor. Then again, I'm kinda of the opinion that the Celestial/Tarot/Voodoo oils are more for magical use than for use strictly as a perfume/cologne oil... so I trust more in Beth's vision and alchemical mixes than in my own nose in these instances. So, I'd Work with it... I just won't wear it.

    Leo

MMmm. Sandalwood and lime. Royal. Thank all merciful deities that this works on me, and that I love it. I was beginning to be disheartened. Tarot: The Sun made me nauseas, as did Sol's wet stages. The prototype of the Lion I have (thank you Tygher & Salice) made me want to weep with how much it did not work. This, tho. This is incredible. Sandalwood and lime are the primary notes I'm getting ahold of, although I'm likely also smelling the heliotrope and juniper and not recognizing it. I get a sense of a bright yellow scent, amorphous but certainly with a commanding presence. Powerful, noble. I can see a King smelling like this. Imagine that, heh. For me, it's delightfully masculine although I can see how it would go different on women. I just love it. Of course... how could I not? It's Leo!

    Chimera

There's nothing really I can add to this review thread Chimera is incredible, a lovely fresh richly foody scent. Ben & Jerry put out a limited batch of ice cream called 'Oatmeal Cookie'. Stay with me, it's relavent I promise This ice cream was cinnamon ice cream with chunks of oatmeal in it. INCREDIBLE. That is what this smells like, although warmed... and fresh out of the oven. It's coming home from school with your grandma, or mother, baking cookies. It's cinnamon buns on Saturday morning with a tall frosty glass of milk. And now I'm making myself hungry. I love this scent. I don't think I'd wear it enough to necessitate a 5ml, but I will keep an imp around.

    Fae

When I was looking over all the mind-boggling choices on the Lab's site to choose my original six imps, Fae was one of the first ones I picked out. It sounded incredible. Then, I read these reviews. Peach was the scent that was dominant, and I thought to myself 'I don't wanna smell like a peach!' So I didn't order it. I actually got this in swap for a friend of mine, and of course had to try it. Now? I love it. I may well order a 5ml of it I love it so much Out of the bottle, it's herby. Perhaps the heliotrope and burgamot. Then, the peach sits down at the party. It isn't overwealming by any stretch... it's soothing, and cool, and delightfully foody. Rather quickly on drydown the musk shows up. Leave it to the musk to be fashionably late. The musk adds a richness and depth to the whole scent that, while sweet yes, is still incredibly light and dark at the same time. If that makes sense. If someone decided to make a sex candy (god, not that I'd want to taste it, eugh) this is what it should smell like.

    Sol

Okay. Sol. As a Leo, I was /really/ looking forward to just absolutely loving this scent, bathing in it and generally using it to embody the solar diety I know lives inside me. Heh. Well... so not what happened. Frankly, Sol made me a little nauseus. Especially first on with the piney resinous scent that comes out when wet. As it begins to dry, cinnamon and clove take over in stages. There's a dark herb in there somewhere also, perhaps sage? I want to say sage. I've just realized what it puts me to mind of. My mother has a little crock pot which often simmers with potpouri refreshed with essential oils. Clove and cinnamon are the prevailing oils chosen for this task. Sol smells like when the pot has simmered too long and is scorching. On me, that is. I always hate disliking one of Beth's creations.

    Ravenous

TwistyGirl sent me this as a little extra in a trade with her, having seen it on my wishlist. So sweet! Looking at the description, I'm unsure why it was on there. I'm glad I got to sniff tho, although my overall reaction is 'not really for me'. Out of the imp, the first thing I smell is the orange blossom with a dark undertone. It's sweet, like candy. Precisely like the inside of orange creame chocolates, actually... that gooey orange liquer sugary filling. Things do have a tendancy to go sweet on me. The scent is reddish orange with stripes of black. I've suspected for a while that patchouli is the culprit when things go so baby powdery on me, and this just confirms it. It goes powdery but stays sweet. There's just a hint of the orange left, so... basically it becomes evil sweet baby powder with a hint of orange. So... not for me. Works for others, tho, so that's good

Blackrayne and Black Phoenix Collide: SOAPS

To toss my hat into the ring... Villain Phobos Among many many others. Perhaps Oberon, since it goes so soapy on me maybe having it AS a soap would fix it! I'm unsure you could go wrong in this, especially with all of us obsessive... I mean loyal fans. Ahem

What email adress do I use for PayPal payments?

I placed my order on the 17th and paypalled to the Papaw.com address. I recently mailed Nella asking if it was okee-dokee and she replied that indeed it was, which makes me feel shiney and happy and goood I'm glad to see the perm address up now which will hopefully end a lot of confusion on our parts and free poor Nella up from our 'Did you get my order?' emails

    The Caterpillar

Fresh on, one can easily remember the scene from the animated Alice where the smoke billows and weaves almost like an extension of the Caterpillar's will. The patchouli, vertiver and jasmine start off this powerful blend as the heavy hitting notes, playing around the softer center. Honestly, it's so well blended that all I can actually pick out is the jasmine. It's both darker and brighter than usual, if that makes any sense. Less sweet with more punch. Patchouli turns powdery on me, so I'm unshocked when this does the same on drydown. The smell is SO FAMILIAR to me. It's a nagging tug at the back of my head, I just can't put my finger on it. I like it, but I'm unsure I'd wear it often. It tickles my sinuses something fierce, like smoke, and it is very potent. I'd say this is a night scent.

    Deimos

Phobos' Brother, sons of War. I can see it. Lemons and Oranges did always have a interesting relationship, I though. It's in the pith. Bitter is the pith. Anyway. Fresh out of the imp, Deimos is sweet like orange candy. Like those little orange slices with the sugar coating? Those. That sweetness begins to fade fairly quickly, however, as the musk and darker scents begin to sneak out of the shadows. I'm not exactly sure what ambergris or civet smell like in and of themselves. Hell, I'm not sure what bergamot or frankincense smell like either! I know I like bergamot, I just don't have anything to relate to it as a single note. Maybe I should get an imp of it! Back on subject. These seems vaguely feminine, slightly powdery. Maybe its the tendency for things to go sweet on me. The orange stays a definitive note throughout the process. A nice scent, slightly sweet, not as dark as I'd expect. I like it, especially as a counterpart to Phobos.

    Cathedral

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this yet. I got it in an auction on Ebay before I even got my first order, I was that impatient for it! So, since it was in my first order, I actually ended up with two imps of it. I was a little disappointed in it, honestly, on me. Fresh out of the imp, it's a very dry wood, like a pale green. More pine than cedar. On drydown, cedar comes out more till it's the predominant scent. I wanted more incense smoke in this. Who knows... maybe I'll try layering it with Caterpillar! I do like this as a scent, but I'd have to be in a very specific mood to wear it.
  25. Vaniclion

    Phobos

Just as a start, I have to say I LOVE PHOBOS!! It's incredible. Wearing it today and the more I sniff it, the better it is. Like crack in a bottle. Beth is such a dealer, I swear. I also find it vaguely ironic that I love a scent that represents the god of Fear & Phobias. Fresh out of the Imp it's /pure lemon/. Somehow it's more lemon than the other lemon scents. Brighter, I suppose. Perhaps it's the combination of the lemongrass and the lemon verbena with the grapefruit. I dunno, but I like it. On drydown, the lemon and the white musk combine into a comfortably cool scent. Still, every now and again, I catch a sour whiff that might be the grapefruit that reminds me of stale sweat. It's just now and again, not a prominent note at all. Apropos I think, being Phobos and all. Guess I like scary men.
