Serpents with Glittering Eyes and Forky Tongues
ayelienne replied to IronMollyBlack's topic in Discontinued Scents
I tested Serpents... today, and my first thought was that it reminded me of Budding Moon. I took a look at the note list and didn't see any common notes, and as Serpents... dried down, it was clear that they were more kissing cousins The bright sweetness is similar in both, but while Budding Moon stays sweet and slightly floral on me, the sweetness in Serpents... settles down quite a bit and there is no floral note, rather a really pretty musky herbal scent. It's more gender neutral than Budding Moon and overall is a quite nice blend. Glittering indeed! -
Bravery, Courage, Confidence, Intimidation, Power

You may want to try Manhattan, which to me has a power/control vibe. Also, some of the conjure bag (voodoo) oils might fit the bill. -
I've been wearing Stardust every New Year's since 2006, so I'll be keeping this tradition tonight

Kumari Kandam was the first thing that came to mind for me as well; it's sort of clay cavelike... there are some other harder-to-find Limited Editions that might fit the bill - Shanghai Tunnel and Carfax Abbey come to mind. One of the more earthy blends from Rappaccini's Garden, maybe Destroying Angel, could add the earthy decay. While I wouldn't call it cavelike at all, an "out there" suggestions is Cathode, which to me is fairly heavy on the oakmoss and spanish moss, and the mint adds a sense of coolness that might be interesting to him. edited for spelling

I relied heavily upon Berenice for my job interview(s); it smells awesome on me, but is very subtle and non-perfumey. I got the job, too

The scent of tea - BPAL's tea note, BPAL blends like your favorite tea

You could see about tracking down a decant of the LE Bakeneko, which is very tea-and-spice to me. -

Jezebel reminds me a lot of Lush's B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful shower gel. -

I am not familiar with Versace Woman, but when you mentioned it smells like sparkling peach, I immediately thought of Tamora, which has: Amber, heliotrope, golden sandalwood, peach blossom and vanilla bean. -
Winter smells and scents, including the perfect winter forest

You may want to track down an imp of Cloister Graveyard in the Snow, from the Salon series - for me, it's a beautiful interpretation of the solemnity and stillness of a winter's night. -
I've worn Stardust 2005 for the last two New Year's Eves, so I'm thinking of making it a tradition. Either that or the darkhorse New Year's Eve in Dogville - my husband's playing a live set at a party

I think Greed might be an interesting choice; also, I found Ides of March and the Beltanes to be nicely greenish without being too sweet.

Someone just mentioned the exact same visual in their review of Snow White... -

You may want to try Moscow if you haven't already -
I'm looking for a list of new items since the last time the Nattie/For_the_Nonce one was updated in the spring. I'm totally behind on my spreadsheet. pugmom, thanks for the link! The layout is quite a bit different, but I can definitely use yours as a backup if I can't track down something closer. Anything specifically you're looking for? I took most of Nattie's spreadsheet and tweaked it a bit for its current incarnation.

I love this - smelling this gives me strong visual impressions of the same "pre-hunt celebration at the feast hall" that I visualize when I smell Tintagel, except Hunter Moon is the celebration before the hunt and Tintagel is the "the hunting party returns" celebration. In Hunter Moon, the wine flows strongly on this warm autumn evening, the smell of leather fills the air, cheeks are slightly flushed with pride and alcohol, there is merriment, and the muskiness of the hunters mingles with the distant musk of the hunted, which electrifies the air with a throbbing sense of anticipation.

Has anyone maintained the Nattie's spreadsheet - either the older layout or the newer one that For The Nonce put together?

I might be wrong, but I'm under the impression that Tonka is in the same general scent family as Vanilla, and so, I'd recommend Dee, which is pretty swoonworthy

How about Mata Hari, Snake Oil or Perversion if she's wearing a bit of leather? -
I would recommend you try Florence

My favorites for going out to a show are: the 13 from April 2007 (the guy next to me stuck his nose into my hair at one point, and I'm convinced it wasn't an accident ); Trick #2, Mme. Moriarty and Snake Oil. There's a "dirtiness" in those that meshes well with a dark, noisy club, and they have enough throw that you create a little aura as you glide on by

It seems like every time the wind kicks up, Oya demands to be worn. I find it works well with the tempestuous NorCal weather

You might want to try Blood Kiss, which is darkly sweet (vetiver, vanilla, honey, clove, cherry); Samhainophobia is another darkly sweet blend, but it's an LE from last fall, so it may be trickier to find.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

In an attempt to help/enable a co-worker, can anyone suggest a BPAL that's like Sheseido's Inoui? It's from the seventies and discontinued. I poked around the web and found it described variously as: "rich, warm chypre," "green fresh balsamic," "fruity-floral with a myrrh base," & "floral chypre." Top notes: Lemon, Galbanum, Peach, Juniper Middle: Jasmine, Pine Needles, Thyme, Freesia Base: Oakmoss, Cedarwood, Myrrh, Civet, Musk Most reviews called out the galbanum, peach, jasmine, freesia, myrrh, and (on occasion) oakmoss. Thanks -
Well, I liked the simple, sweet spiciness of Pink Moon 2007, but it gave my husband flashbacks to the first day of school in the Soviet Union, when all the Young Pioneers would give boquets of carnations to the teacher or the girls would wear carnations in their hair. He kindly asked that I swap or sell this one
